Updating an ATI video drivers in Boot Camp with Vista, should it be done?

I use Boot Camp on my Mac Pro for games. I play Age of Conan on Vista on my Mac using Boot Camp. I can't play Conan anymore because it is telling me to update my video drivers but I am worried it will effect the Mac side of the computer. What should I do?

The guide on drivers heaven tells you all you need to know, disable the UAC in vista and reboot. Download the ATI driver package which is now 8.6, extract the package and then cancel the install. Use the mod tool and then navigate to the ATI folder and double click setup. It should run perfectly and all is well, I did it the other day with my iMac which has the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT chip. The simple way to say what the mod tool does is that it changes the driver to recognise the apple signature on the chip.

  • Updating video drivers in Boot Camp

I recently installed Windows 7 on my 24" '08 iMac (3.06 dual core with Nvidia 8800GS) using Boot Camp 3.0. Everything is working quite nicely but I'm wondering if I can get updated Nvidia drivers directly from Nvidia's site for their 8800 series of cards.
In the Windows driver update update it says I'm up to date and the Nvidia system utility says that newer drivers aren't available. There are more up to date drivers, however, and I'm wondering if there's any issue downloading new drivers from Nvidia and installing them? Has anyone had experience with this?

  • Video Drivers under Boot Camp

Can you install ATI drivers (like from Omega Drivers) under a Boot Camp installation of WinXP, or are you stuck with whatever Apple provided?

yes..I just installed the omegas and am rerunning 3d mark 05. Scored 2859 the first time..low for this card. Could be driver or severly underclocked.
One other thing I have noticed is that ati tool, ati tray tool(included with omegas) can't seem to measure closk speed and memory of the x1600. It is somehow locked out..maybe bios. Not sure yet. Will post scores with omega drivers.
3dmark 05 did show clock of 375 but showed 0 for memory.

  • Video Out in Boot Camp with Windows XP

Sorry, this is my first help request... i hope i write in a correct section.
I installed Windows XP SP2 with boot camp in my Mac Book Pro. I have the third part MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter with audio. I use it for projector. I always use it without problems.
With Windows XP i can't use it... i don't know why. The adapter is power off (led is off) and i don't know what i have to do for use second monitor in woindows XP.
I know about FN+F5 in windows... but in Mac F5 is keyboard light and if i set Functions keys as normal key (from Boot Camp Options) F5 is refresh key and fn+F5 is the keyboard light.
So what i have to do?
    Thaks

Yes, XP will be able to detect the expansion card if you download the appropriate drivers online. When bootcamp was first starting... this article circulated http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305401... summary, you should remove the fiber channel card before bootcamping. Since then the software has gone through the proper modifications that you can just plug the card in, boot into windows, and download the LSi driver for XP.
So you'll have no problem setting this up.

  • Boot camp with Vista?

can i run boot camp version 4.0.1 with Windows Vista Home Premium edition?  I used to have it until I replaced my hard drive and upgraded to Lion.  Now it seems that only Windows 7 will work and I'll have to buy that OS.

Rule #1: Clone your system and keep an image or partiton wth the original or last versions of OS.
That means you could have just cloned your old system onto the new drive.
Or installed Lion on an external and then run Setup Assistant, and then clone the system back.
Carbon Copy Cloner can clone not just Lion but Lion Recovery also.
And do keep the Lion installer package and don't let it get deleted. Doesn't make sense I know and why it doesn't just hang around or put the 3.4GB on Recovery partition or one of its own.

  • I just bought a 15" macbook pro, do the cds that come with the mac have the drivers i need to update windows after installing windows using boot camp?

I just bought a 15" macbook pro, do the cds that come with the mac have the drivers i need to update windows after installing windows using boot camp?

    What DVDs are this ?
If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.

  • ATI 6750M issue in Boot Camp

I recently purchased a Mac Book Pro for gaming and work. (15" with 8GB ram, 2.3Ghz with the 1GB ATI 6750M)
I used Boot Camp to install Windows 7 for some of my windows related games. Unfortunately, games like WoW, and other steam games don't seem to take advantage of the ATI 6750M even though the drivers are installed.
I know WoW has a MAC client, but I was hoping to make my Windows install ... My "gaming" environment, where all my games lived.
WoW for example says I don't have a shader compatible card installed.   The new FPS Brink seems to run at around 20 FPS.
    Any suggestions?

No answers yet, but I saw an update come from Apple today on Boot Camp performance and the Turbo processor.
Maybe this will be taken care of.

  • Drivers for Boot Camp on MBP 15" late 2008/2009

I have just loaded Windoze XP on Boot Camp partition but after loading drivers (at least a half dozen times) none of the hardware is enabled - audio/nVidia graphics etc reports no drivers installed. I have visited the nVidia website and downloaded the latest drivers but still after installing - no drivers installed! Anyone else have this problem? Any fix or must we await a revision of boot camp with newer drivers?

I have noted a link to the latest version for Windows XP.

Boot Camp 2.1 is the latest version. We are way past due for an update.

  • Cinema DIsplay sleeps when I use Boot Camp with Radeon 5870 through DVI connection

I just created a bootcamp partition on my Mac Pro (1,1) with Radeon 5870 and XP Professional so I can play Train Simulator 2012 with maxed out settings. Well after hours of installing Windows XP and updating it (via Parallels so I could do other things while waiitng for Windows) I got Train Simulator 2012 installed, Windows XP Professional fully upto date and reboot to bootcamp. I see the Windows screen and then my monitor goes to sleep (best guess). I am using an Apple Cinema Display 20" and is of course connected to the DVI port. One guess (and I hope I am totally wrong about this) is I think I remember reading the DVI port id display 3 not 1. I hope this isn't the problem (requiring me to buy a $40 Mini Display port for DVI adapter.
Any ideas as to why this is happening? I was so looking forward to playing Train Simulator with maxed out graphics via Boot Camp with the Radeon 5870 1GB. Don't get me started as to why my line out is not being detected by XP Pro.
I also have the latest Bootcamp drivers for XP (3.2).

Never used XP and on Mac Pro I wanted to use all 4-cores and more than 1.9GB RAM but often it seems that in the past and with Fusion anyway you would need to install Windows updates and drivers natively not thru or in the VM.

  • Driver issue FIXED in Vista / boot camp with new, unibody macbook pro!!

Hay people, I found a fix for the freezing issues with Vista running in Boot camp with the new, unibody Macbook pros. The driver for the 9600M Gt is no good if you install it from the Apple 2.1 version driver disc (Mac osx disc)for some (most) of us.
I needed to go to Nvidia's site and download the one from DECEMBER 08. If you click the "download drivers" tab on the site, scroll past the current driver it wants you to look at (go to the near bottom of page), click the archives, and input your OS version. Also input "Gforce" and "M" series when needed. It will give you a choice of two drivers. DO NOT CHOOSE THE FEB 09 Driver. Thats the BAD driver for most of us. Choose the DECEMBER 08 driver. Download and enjoy. Be sure to roll back the VGA driver (or the current driver) first before you install this. It should work.
I've been through the ringer with this for weeks now and have even tried to take my MBP back to swap for a new one. Apple wont have any of that so I thought I was SOL. Not quite. This DOES work for me with Vista. It also works for Windows & if you have it handy.
By the way, I am posting this for people who HAVE HAD THE FREEZING problems, not for people who haven't. Apparently there are some out there who are running Vista just fine on their unibody MBS's. Most of us are not.
Cheer's-----Seattle, where the evil empire looms dark

This never worked. I sold that machine and got a new 17" unibody. IT, by the way, works just fine. I KNEW it was that **** 15'. It took 30 more seconds to boot up I found out also.

  • Boot Camp with Win 8 Can't See The USB External Drive [MBR with NTFS, Fat32, HFS Partitions]

Hi. When I boot to Boot Camp with the latest Apple Windows Support drivers can't see my USB Flash Drive, DVD and OS X volumes but not my USB external drive that has an MBR partition scheme (using iPartition from GUID) and in there it has different volumes [HFS when I boot to Snow Leopard, Fat32, NTFS]. What can I do with Boot Camp to make it see my USB external drive and why isn't it seeing the USB when it can see the USB flash drive both use USB?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

Hi, I have installed boot camp with wins xp home but i can't get on line with it. can only one help please.

Please close this thread, I have managed to get a hold of a DVD including all the drivers, so I suppose that will work, if not one way then another.
Thank you for the quick answers.

  • Can i use an external hard drive in windows to add additional storage after my initial partition is set up. i want to add a 500 GB hard drive to use with my windows. I set windows up in boot camp with a 50 GB partition?

  • Keep getting error occurred while formatting the disk using boot camp with usb

So I keep getting the above error when trying to use boot camp with a USB drive. I have tried with more than one flash drive, all formatted to FAT32, multiple isos, both ripped right from a windows 7 ultimate dvd and downloaded, and I have made sure the iso was unmounted. I have also tried all different combinations of checking the options in the boot camp assistant menu. Any ideas on how to get this to work?

I was mistakenly thinking of the Fat16 limit. That is my mistake.
When bootcamp assistant failed to create the USB from my iso disk (with no explanation), I decided to experiment a little with the dd and cp utilities. dd failed, and cp told me the install file was too big.
The install.wim on my iso is 4,351,019,025 bytes. So even if 4GB is the file size limit, it is too big. 4GB is 4,294,967,296 bytes if I recall.
If I am still right about the file size, smaller editions of windows 7 would be able to fit on the flash drive, or people can have an actual DVD with windows 7 and install from there.

  • Installing updated Window 7 drivers on Boot Camp.

My wireless mouse does not work with Windows 7/Boot Camp. Still using a wired mouse.
I have updated boot camp to version 3.1 and have downloaded the file "Windows 7, late 2009 drivers"
The documentation that accompanied the drivers said to load to put the drivers on a flash drive and use the "boot camp assistant" in the utilities file and just follow directions.
There are no options to load just the drivers, it wants to partition the drive just as if Bootcamp had never been installed.
Is there a way to load these drivers after Bootcamp and Windows7 has been installed?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is there a way to load these drivers after Bootcamp and Windows7 has been installed?
Well that is the issue. You have obviously gotten ahead of the game. This works during the Windows 7 installation process, as is stated in the instructions for using the drivers. So you should follow the process to use the drivers and reinstall Windows 7.
But there is also an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows and whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. They may have a work around and you may attract help more quickly there.
    The Forums are at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology. Here is a link;
