Updating Apps bought with two apple accounts

Half the apps on my iphone are bought from an old hotmail account, and the other half are from a newer mobile me account... When I want to update all the apps, I have to sign in to both accounts (in iTunes) or it doesn't think I bought the apps!
Is there any way to migrate the apps so they are just under one email address? They are all on the same imac and the same iphone...

No, there is not. Apps (even free ones) are DRM-protected and linked to the account used to download them. You'd need to repurchase the apps to get them all on one account.
Actually, you should have kept your old AppleID. Note that the AppleID isn't used for email contact - it's just an account name, so it could be Fred or MyVeryOwnAccount. Apple does recommend using your email address for the AppleID - I think that's a bad idea because it results in exactly the problem you're having - confusion between AppleID and email address. You can change the email address associated with your account/AppleID at http://myinfo.apple.com, so there you could have kept your hotmail account as your ID, but associated the new MobileMe email with the account so your receipts went to the right place. At this point, you're pretty much stuck without re-buying half your apps. Sorry!

  • Updating apps bought with 2 Apple IDs

    Hi everyone,
My cousin's iPhone 3GS running iOS5.0.1 has apps on it that have been purchased with 2 different Apple IDs.
Should it be possible to do updates to BOTH sets of apps in one operation by going to App Store > Updates and pressing Update All and then entering the password for each Apple ID.  Currently when my cousin does this he gets a message saying "Cannot Connect to iTunes Store."  The error is NOT due to either password being incorrect.
And one further question.  One of the Apple IDs I mentioned above, when you go into the Account area in iTunes, has no purchase history whatsoever (well it does now that I have purchased one test app with the account).  Yet this account has purchased both paid and free apps in the past (I know that free apps show in purchase history when things are working, not just paid ones).  Can any action with an iTunes account cause its purchase history not to show, for example if you change the e-mail address associated with an iTunes account?
    Thanks in advance,
    Philip

not as far as I know.

  • Apps bought with old apple id? I cant update app as ID is no longer in use?

I have an old apple account that alot of my apps were bought on. I didnt use this id for a couple of months and now it is no longer a registerd ID, even though I did not delete it
I have a new ID now but my problem is that when I try and update or buy extras for the games it brings up my old id and asks for password, and gets no further as its obviously no longer registerd...So annoying! I have tried using my current apple ID but it has to be the ID you used when purchasing.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance Nikki

hey im kinda having the same problem. except i made a new apple id cause it said my old one was disabled because of secruity reason. and ever time i go to buy an app or something my old id shows up. did u find out how to fix it? cause its been going on like three days now and it is ******* me off.

  • Cannot update apps downloaded with old Apple ID after changing ID

My wife and I used to share my Apple ID on all mobile devices (iPhone 4S, iPad 2) and Mac so we could share contacts, calendar, purchases (apps & music).  My Apple ID was an inactive email address.  When I bought my iPhone 6 I decided to change Apple ID to a current email address and she created her own Apple ID for her iPhone 4S and iPad 2.  Figured we could still share data through Family Share.  Changed Apple IDs on all devices to the current ones.
Now, she cannot update apps on her devices as she gets message that her apps were downloaded with another Apple ID.  It asks for password for that Apple ID (my old ID), and the passwords for my previous Apple ID and my new password don't work.  I tried deleting the apps off her devices and then installing again from the Mac we backup to, but that did not work.
Also, is there a way to share contacts and calendar through Family Share or some other way.  We don't seem to be sharing any longer since making all these changes.  Why did I make the changes?  Because using the same Apple ID on all devices was causing me to get her text messages and vice versa, and other strange things after updating to iOS 8.
I have iPhone 6, she has 4S and iPad 2.  Have a MacBook Pro circa mid-2010 running Yosemite, version 10.10.2.  Mobile devices run iOS 8.1.3

It is a good thing you made 2 separate Apple ID.
I tried deleting the apps off her devices and then installing again from the Mac we backup to, but that did not work
It's normal it didn't work because you are reinstalling apps (that are on the Mac) that were purchased/obtained from your Apple ID. She needs to reinstall them through the App Store on her device, using her Apple ID.
share contacts and calendar through Family Share or some other way
Calendars can be shared through iCloud (A)(without Family Sharing), or using the following method (B) used for the contacts.
Contacts can neither be shared through iCloud or through Family Sharing.
To get them synced: Get all of your wife's contact on your iOS device. (you can send them to your iOS device through iMessage)
then go to your wife's iOS device: Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendar.
From there, disable her iCloud contacts, then add YOUR iCloud account, and select only contacts (and calendar if you want the method (B)).
This should answer all your questions.
    Cheers

  • How do i buy an app on the mac app store with my apple account balance?

when i try to buy an ap it tries to get my credit card info. i dont want to use a credit card because ive already got alot on my acount balance and just recently when i bought my mac yesterday they gave me a free student 65£ voucher.

    Hi there,
Sometimes, you need to enter Credit Card info, even if you are using account balence. Make sure you sign-in to your account on the mac app store, or enter your Apple ID in System Preferences under Users and Groups.
Also make sure you have redeemed that code.

  • TS2446 If i create a new apple id account on my ipod, will i still have all my music, apps, books and other stuff on my ipod that i downloaded and bought with my old account or will i loose everything; will i be able to still do the updates to those apps?

    I really need help!

I don't think you understood what I wrote. You don't HAVE to pay for everything if you are happy with using the other account for updates, etc. But if you don't want to do that then you will have to buy new copies of everything for the new account. There's only one purchase item per account, but you can redownload an item in the account many times.
    The idea is this:
One computer, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
One user, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
The basic idea is that each user has an Apple ID under which he/she can manage multiple devices on a single computer.
Once you step outside of that model you create such problems as not being able to use or update apps purchase under one Apple ID when using a different Apple ID. Or not being able to easily sync one device on more than one computer.

Were you able to reset the account's password ? If not then how did you try to get it reset e.g. http://iforgot.apple.com (which would have sent it to the rescue email address if you have one on that account) ? You can also try contacting iTunes Support in your country to get it reset : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
And no, accounts can't be merged nor content transferred between accounts.

  • Can 2 teachers share an ipod touch and put apps on it with two itune accounts

Can 2 teachers share an ipod touch and put apps on it with two itune accounts?

    Sure.  No problem.
Be aware that ALL purchases are permanently associated with whatever Apple ID was used to originally obtain them.  Apps can not be updated without knowledge of that ID and, more importantly, its password.  Apple IDs can not be merged and purchases can not be transferred from one ID to another.
Minor nuisance if you choose to update apps from inside the computer's iTunes.  If you're logged into the "wrong" account, it's necessary to log out/in to do the update.  It's easier if you update from the iPod itself.  No need to log out/in but you do need to know the password for the ID.

  • HT1848 MY wife has an Iphone 4  and I have a 5. To date we haev used one apple is/account to manage music purchases. Recently we bought a Mac and created a new apple account for her. How do I synched her phone with new apple account?

MY wife has an Iphone 4  and I have a 5. To date we have used one apple account to manage music purchases/library. I updated ny phone to the new OS version and all her texting is showing up on my phone.  I understand if i create an apple account for her I will not see her texts. Recently we bought a Mac and created a new apple account for her. How do I synched her phone with new apple account and get access to the music library under my account on the new MAC laptop  before I update her phone to the new OS?
Going forward if I purchase music under my apple id and want her to have it on her device, how can I acheive that?

You can continue to share an Apple ID for purchases.
Sign her in to her new account here:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (Keep on Phone if you want to transfer contacts, calendars, etc...) then sign in with her new ID
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Apple ID > Sign out then in with new
Settings > FaceTime > Apple ID > Sign out then in with new
Use the same Apple ID here:
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID

I have visited a genuis bench at Fountain gate however, they tell me I need to ring apple support which I will do on the next working day.

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

  • Backing up iPad apps purchased with two accounts?

For a recent sync, I "transferred purchases" from my iPad to iTunes and subsequently synced it to my iMac with my personal AppleID. Before syncing, my iPad had apps purchased with two separate AppleIDs on it.
Upon doing a restore for the iOS5 upgrade, the apps purchase on the other AppleID account don't show up on my iPad.
Where are the apps now and how can I get them, and their data, back?!? I know I can log into the other AppleID on my iPad and redownload the lost apps from the App Store. However, I need the DATA from the apps (note taking apps and such). How do I get that data back?
If this isn't an option, this is a major fault of Apple's account design.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions~

    Hello J_DougBC,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  I found an article that addresses Apple IDs that are different than the Primary Email Address on the account.  You will need to go to https://appleid.apple.com/ to "Make your Apple ID and email address one and the same."
If your Apple ID and primary email address do not match, or they match but the email address is unverified, you can edit them.
    1. Sign in to My Apple ID to manage your account information.
    2. If you want to add and verify an email address that matches your Apple ID, follow the dialog box that says "Make your Apple ID and email address one and the same." This will automatically unverify that email address from any other Apple ID for which it was previously verified.
    3. If you want to change your email address to one that does not match your Apple ID, click Edit next to your Primary Email Address. If this email address is already associated with another Apple ID, you will need to sign in with that Apple ID and delete it before you can add it to your preferred Apple ID.
Note: If you have an @me.com or @mac.com Apple ID and primary email address, you cannot edit your primary email address once it has been verified. To change your @me.com or @mac.com primary email address to another email address, contact Apple Support for assistance.
You can find the full article here:

I hope this helps get you back on track!
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • HT4854 Will the second computer receive updates if they are logged into the App Store with their own accounts?

    No.
Each Apple ID stores its own list of software purchases.
