Updating apps still asks for former appleID??

I recently received an iphone4 as a gift from a friend who updated to the 5. I've associated my appleID w the phone, have my backup assistant on w all my contacts and everything, but when I go to update my apps it still asks for the password to her appleID. I've deleted her account completely from every area on the phone, but this still happens. Does anyone have any info on how to remedy this situation?
thank you all!
Shaun

Apps have an Apple ID associated with them - namely, the Apple ID of the original purchaser (or downloader, in the case of free apps).  Those apps remain the property of that person who holds that Apple ID.  Generally speaking, other people cannot use those apps without some type of action, because of ownership issues.
So it sounds like when you received the iPhone 4, you might not have started with a completely clean slate.  Starting with a clean slate would involve doing a Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings before doing anything else.  It would also involve making sure the iPhone was logged in to FaceTime, iMessage, did not have an Apple ID assoicated with the iTunes Store, and, after the erasing, never had any contact with the former owner's iTunes.

  • Despite updating apps, still asking for updates?

    Hi guys
Hope you can help with this. I have some apps that I updated recently but for some reason when I go to the App Store on my touch, it keeps asking me to update them again. Can anyone suggest something to make this stop? It even acknowledges that it's already installed when I click on any of the updates. I have the latest update.
    Thanks
    Steve.

I'm seeing the same thing, and it hasn't gone away for over a week now. In fact, if I keep hitting the Updates button, it alternates among saying "all apps up to date" and showing differing lists of apps to update - and sometimes it shows older versions than what I'm running to update to!!
I've tried synching, restarting it, nothing seems to clear it up.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any ideas?

  • When trying to update apps it asks for account password but it doesn't show my account. Help!

When trying to update apps it asks for account password but it doesn't show my account ID, it shows my dad's. How can I fix this so I can sign in?

It sounds like the apps were purchased using your dads account, so they will have to be updated using that account.

  • I had mobile me apple ID but deleted it. Now it looks like I have one Apple ID but hen when I go to update apps it asks for my @me acct.  how do I get it to change

I changed to iCloud and had nothing but trouble so I deleted it. I had a @me acct and it worked great, but iCloud came out and I tried it but just got discouraged.  So now I think or it shows on my apple profile I am ack to my original apple I'd which is my original email acct.  but when I try to update an app on my iPhone or iPad it automatically asks for my @me password.  I do not have it nor do I want it.  If Apple has only my one iD why is this appending.?

It's not possible to delete an iCloud account.
You can turn off the services, but that doesn't delete the account.

  • How can I remove a previously used Apple ID from my iPhone? My phone is saying to update apps but asks for the other Apple ID password

I signed in on my phone with my wife's Apple ID and downloaded an app then signed out of hers. I signed back in with mine and now, my phone remembers I did that obviously because it says I have apps that need to be updated and when I chose to update them, the phone asks for her password tho it's signed in under my Apple ID.

There may be several that were bought with your Apple ID. but somewhere in the updates there must be one associated with that other ID.
You can update one by one, until you find the one that requires the other Apple ID.

  • I signed out of an itunes account to a new one, however when trying to update apps it asks for the password for the old account, how do i get rid of this?

I have an old iphone with old itunes accounts.  I have signed out of these in the settings tab and put in the new account, however when i go to the App store to update apps it comes up with the old account and there are no other options.  I cannot see this account anywhere else, does anyone have any suggestions?

You can't.  Apps are forever tied to the AppleID that purchased them.  Delete the apps with the old AppleID and purchase them with the new AppleID.

  • Mail.app still asks for passwords, i tried everything !

each time I launch mail, it asks me for my passwords (3 for pop accounts + 1 for smtp). I tried to delete the preferences, I tried to delete the accounts and re-create them, I tried "SOS trousseau d'acces", I put the file login.keychain on the desktop, system.keychain too, I tried disk utilility to repair the authorizations, I reboot each time, NO WAY, it drives me crazy ! it looks like every change has no effect on the "trousseau d'acces".

You might try deleting the file located at:
    /Users/cynthiabartz/Library/Mail/[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages.mbox/Messages/29051.emlx
If the quicklook daemon is crashing on it, Mail might be too.

  • Updating apps, keeps asking for billing info

i have a problem up-dating my apps on my iphone 4s, i keep gettin massage telling me i need to enter billin infomation but when i do, i get decilined massage and wont let me up-date anything on my apple account, driving me crazy plz help

You Apple ID is not tied to a free account. The only way to create a free account is by downloading iTunes to your computer, then go to the App store with in iTunes, find a free App then click on the word free. There it will prompt you to enter your Apple ID or create an account. Select create an account. From there you can move forward with creating a free account. Next to the Credit card (on the second page of the set up) options will be a Free Box instead. Let me know if you need help with how to make your current account free. What do you currently use you Apple ID to do?

All content and data is forever associated with the Apple ID you used to download it. You should have reset the password for the original I'd.

That Apple ID is stored inside those applications. Leave them as is and ask your friend to do the updating.

  • Hey. I have recently made an update on my daughters iMac, particularly update OS X 10.9.4, when finished, its still asking for update and the same update stills remarked in the apple update menu and at the App store app. Why doesn't stop asking f.ud?

Hey. I have recently made an update on my daughters iMac, particularly the update OS X 10.9.4, when finished, its still asking for update and the same update stills remarked as ready in the apple update menu and remarked as 1 to go at the App store app. Why doesn't stop asking for update when its done like 5 times or more? Thanks for taking your time!

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • IOS6 still asks for password for free App updates

I thought free App updates are supposed to install without requiring my app store password to be re-entered, yet my iPad 2 still asks me for it each time. (my iPhone 4 is fine, free updates install without asking for my password).  What am I missing here? Is there some weird hidden away setting I need to configure on my iPad?
    Thx

My iPad 3 running iOS 6 doesn't ask me for a password if I update Apps.
I don't think that I have any weird setting set.

  • HT1311 im borrowing a friends ipod touch and want to add apps to it. i signed into my apple account but when i go to the app store it still asks for my friends password even though my apple ID account is signed in. any help?

I'm borrowing a friend's iPod touch until I get another phone and I want to add some apps. I deleted all the apps that weren't needed and then I tried to add some of the apps that I need. I switched the Apple ID account on the iPod and the iCloud account to my own along with all the other apps (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, Skype, mail, YouTube, etc.) When i go to the Apple app store and try and update or download a new app it still asks for the old password. How do I get it so when I try and download new stuff it asks for MY password?

It is showing updates because your machine is tied to the original purchase and will remain so until you wipe the drive.
As you purchased it used and the seller obviously did not do what he was supposed to do and that is erase the hard drive and reinstall the original system, you will run in to far more difficult problems when you need to reinstall for whatever reason. The new licensing requirements are that any mac is sold with the original OS - any OS or app obtained at the app store is NOT transferable and the buyer needs to purchase their own license. That means you will not be able to reinstall the OS.
At some point, you will need to try to get either the original install disks (from the seller or Apple) and wipe your drive and reinstall. Then you can download your own licensed copy of Mavericks and any apps you want.

  • My sister gave me her old Iphone 4 but and i logged out of her apple accounted and logged into mine but sadly whenever i try to update or download a app ot asks for my password then it ask for hers why is that ?

I basically got this phone about 2 weeks ago and i cannot download or update anything . I would mind it asking for my sisters apple password but she doesn't know it so how do i take it off ? It will ask for mine then a few seconds later it will ask for hers . In my settings everything is signed in as me but i just don't get why it still ask for her apple id. I have logged out and reset all my settings and it still ask for her apple id. If i can figure out how do i get her password ?

Any apps that she downloaded onto the device are tied to her apple ID.  They cannot be transferred to another account.  To update those apps, you would either need her password, or you could delete the apps and download them using your own apple id.

  • I had the icloud account changed on the iPad (have added new ID and deleted old one). However when updating/downloading , it still asks for password to the previous account...?

I’m giving my ipad to my sister and I had the icloud account changed. I have added new ID and deleted the old one. However when updating and downloading apps, it still asks for password to the previous account. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks very much!

Maybe you should set it up as new device again:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
Apps are tied to the Apple ID they were bought with and can not be shared with other devices that have a different Apple ID.
