Updating Branded phones ! (well vodafone at least)

Hi,
i had been having some problems with my n96, so i e-mailed my friend that works in vodafone, well today he came back with a answer, he said that there where currently "issues" with the vodafone update and some of the vodafone apps, he said that if i go to my nearest vodafone store i can get the update from them but it wont update some of the extra vodafone applications that came with some vodafone branded phones! well i dont care as mine was unbranded and has no voda apps on it but is still classed as a voda n96, so am getting it updated tomorrow morning, now its just a case of whether or not you want to keep any vodafone applications on the phone or update !
now i dont no if this applies to any branded networks, my friend was going to test this theory on his t-mobile n96 today but i haven't heard back from him as of yet !
i will post back when i have gotten the update and if my mate tell me how thing went !

got mine updated today in the Newcastle vodafone store but they said u could have taken it to the nokia store with a print out of the e-mail voda sent me and they would do it, anyway i went in and had about a 40 min convo about pros and cons of the n96 with the store help guy as he was wanting one, anyway i gave it to another member of staff during this and he plugged it into a machine that looked like a paint machine and played on a computer, i recon it took about 20 mins before he came back and warned me of the unfinished work on some of the apps and gave my phone back, i can say that i see the difference in the update, music plays better and volume controls are more gracefull, also the speed of the handset is improved ten fold in my case, and he mentioned something about the next update but it was just connection times and methods and security mostly.

What media sync options?  Where are they ? How do I change them?

Afraid, this doesnt help.  I've already unselected about 100 iTunes, resynced, and I still get the same message about 610 MB needing to be deleted.
What is so magic about 610 MB as a number?
Is this anything to do with iCloud? I was on the free 20 MB offeruntil last month and then got downgraded to 5 because I could n't see the need for paying for extra Cloud space.   Is this the reason why?

  • Difference between Locked and Branded Phones

So I started this topic because everyone says all sorts of things about branded phones, but nothing about network-locked phones.
For example, when I say I cannot update my N70 because it's operator-locked to Vodafone Romania (when i bought it it was CONNEX Romania), everyone presumes it's BRANDED. Well it's not. It has no Vodafone brand on it, except the access points. No special logos, no special Live! features, nothing. So why call it branded ? I've seen branded phones (a lot of Vodafone branded phones, from Motorolas to Nokia 6234's) and believe me, I cannot call my N70 branded.
So am i making a mistake in my judgement ?
    Previous phones: 3330, 3410, 3510i, 3200, 6230, Nokia N70, Nokia N73, Nokia N82, Nokia 5500 Sport & Nokia N97
    Current: Nokia N900

Some people tend to call them branded including myself because they are not generic, they have been bought and their firmware customised (no matter how little) by the operator/network and then resold to you. Doesn't matter if they are network locked or not they are still classed as branded.

  • Caller ID no longer works on Orange branded phones -- all other phones OK

Hi all, I have an Orange SIM on a business account. Since ~ the 18th of July, when I put my SIM in an Orange-branded phone, caller display doesn't show who is calling. It simply shows 'Call'.On one phone the 'Received calls' and 'Missed calls'menus disappeared altogether. Only the 'Placed calls' menu remains. When I put my SIM in an non-Orange-branded phone (and I have tried at least 6 different ones)caller ID shows perfectly well. One of the Orange-branded phones is 2G/UMA. The behaviour is thesame no matter whether I use 2G or UMA. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

    Hi,
This is a problem with some customers and EE are working to fix it.

I am puzzled by this. The laptop doesn't need the Apple ID - but iTunes does. I could be missing something but ....
Why would you not be able to use your existing Apple ID and iTunes account on a new laptop? If you authorized the computer - you should be able to use your existing account - unless you already had 5 computers authorized with the existing ID - and that was why iTunes would not accept the ID. However, I'm sure that you would have received a popup message from iTunes telling you that you had reached the limit.
I just received a new MBP and my daughter did as well. My entire family shares an Apple ID and we had no issues at all with my Apple ID and iTunes on our new computers and I did not have to sign up for a new account. Did you even try the old ID?

  • I have an IPhone 4,with IOS 4.2.6. I just got an iPad which has an IOS 5.1.1. I want to update my IOS on the phone but the computer I use no longer has Internet access. How can I update my phone? Also, what iTunes version should I have for the updated IOS

I have an iPhone 4 with IOS 4.2.6. I recently received an iPad with IOS5.1.1. I want to update my IOS on my phone but the computer I use is no longer hooked up to the Internet. What do I need to do? Also, does my iTunes need to be updated? It is whatever was available last July. Thank you for your time and courtesy!

To update your phone requires using the latest version of iTunes, on your computer, as well as Internet access. The update to iOS 5.0 or higher is an erase/restore deal, so you not only have to make sure all of the content, currently on your phone, is on your computer and accessible, you need to update iTunes first, have Internet access, then update your phone. There is no way around this fact. You could go to an Apple store or use another computer, but you run the risk of losing all of your data it you do that.

  • IOS 7.0.4 update crashed phone - stuck on iTunes and plug screen

Attempted to install the latest update and phone just got stuck on a black screen with the iTunes icon and the USB icon underneath.  I have attempted to power off/on countless times.  I have also tried to hold the power and home button down at the same time to reset.  I have followed the directions on Apple to reset it as well; plugging the USB into my Mac and holding down the power/home button at the same time while putting the plug in the phone.  No luck.  I am to the point now I am attempting to restore the whole phone.  While restoring it says it is in recovery mode (still stuck on the same screen for about 18 hours now).
Frustrated and disappointed with Apple.  Was already irritated that the battery life has been a nightmare since initial 7 install and now this.  I am concerned that I will have NOTHING on my iPhone when and if I get it fixed.  I am most concerned about losing my contacts.  I realize things may be retrievable, but this is all unnecessary if the frequent updates would just work right to begin with.
To make things worse, I work in a public education institution going to 1:1 iPad initiative and one of two people responsible for making sure the iPads are working properly.  We will soon have to update every iPad (over 800) and concerned what issues this update will do to our iPads.
I have searched online and others have experienced this same issue.

I guess you have never experienced an update to Windows? It's software. Sometimes things don't go as planned. It could be a misbehaving app that caused the problem.
Try another device, one of your 800 iPads and see if you have any problems before you make a judgement. I have updated 4 IOS devices without a problem.

  • I had my iPhone replaced in 2011 because of the camera shutter app defect, and the "genius" put in the wrong serial code and after update the phone will not work. What can I do?

I took my iPhone to AT&T after I tried to update to iOS 6 and the phone said I needed to insert the original sim card which was what was in the device. AT&T said to take it to apple because it had to be a software issue.  I get to the apple store and they tell me because I replaced my phone because of the defective shutter malfunction the "genius" entered in the wrong serial number by one digit causing the phone to turn into a UK phone and they could not fix it unless I have some sort of reciept or email saying it came from Apple. Mind you this is a year later with a move from TX to HI as well! So what am I able to do?? be out of a phone because they messed up?? They told me I could outright buy a new phone which I am NOT going to do because this phone worked before.

I cant find any reciept in my email or in my husbands email.  I am going to attempt to call and speak to someone who can help me because this was not my fault except trying to be normal and update my phone!

I'm assuming you followed a forum like Gizmodo to load the latest version of iOS 7 Beta on your device
Alot of those forums forget to mention, iTunes 11.0.5 will allow you to update to the iOS 7 Beta but your device will no longer work unless you have the developer version of iTunes as well....
I'd suggest you to research how to downgrade back to 6.1.3/4 and wait a few days for the iOS to be released,

  • My mac is a 10.5.8 what steps do I take to up grade? I have an iphone 5 and can't update my phone on itunes.

My Mac OS X (10.5.8) what steps do I take to up grade? I have an iphone 5, and can't update my phone using itunes.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
You should now see the App Store icon, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

    @sherpa1967
To successfully install the Zune software, you need full administrative privileges.
Right click on the Zune program and go to properties and then to compatibility at the bottom where there should be a check box "Run as Administrator", check it. Then click OK and you should be able to run the program.
