Updating contacts on PC Suite

I am trying to update my contacts on Nokia PC Suite but it keeps telling me my phone must be in a idle state. Does anyone know how to put the phone in an idle state???
I have switched on / off - shut down bluetooth - locked the phone all without success!!!!
HELP!!!!!

Hi, I would like to be able to update contacts on the phone by reading in a csv file on PC Suite. Is this possible? I would be happy with the ability to update just name & number.

PC Suite: "Could not update contacts" - "Kunne ikk...

I got my new Nokia 6220 Classic yesterday and went immediately start to manage my contacts. I have pictures on about 70 to 202 contacts.
When I had to add a picture to a contact, PC Suite posted an error "Could not update contacts" Since my phone was set to via Bluetooth I tried with the USB cable without success. I rebooted phone and PC but it was the same.
I uninstall PC Suite and tried again but the USB cable and Bluetooth, without success. Today, I am at my job where I use the USB interface. Exact same error. I tried to update the firmware on the phone, but with the same, because there is not a newer version. But I get the same problem. The calendar works as it should, but messages do not work, here comes the message "The message could not be sent." - I can (From job, not at home) see the messages which have come, but can't answer or create new messages ..
Now I run a PC Suite Cleaner and reinstalled PC Suite. Same problem.
What should I try and what can be wrong?
I am happy using PC Suite and I use it very much! I want it to work .. )

Hmm... I think I have solved this..
I started by taking a Backup this morning.
Now I finally desided to delete all and start over. I made another Back up, Restored the Back up from erliere. Then set contact memory to SIM and back to Phone...
And now it works?!?!?!!?
Only a few photoes to some contacts has to be redone, and som contacts appear more then once.. But My Suite works!

Cannot update contacts in either PC Suite or Ovi S...

In Ovi suite, after updating then syncing contacts, Ovi suite tells me contacts have been successfully synced, but nothing in my handset contacts has changed.
In PC suite, after updating a contact, I get the message: "Writing contact failed. Try to restart application " (Which doesn't work).
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all Nokia software to no avail.
This means I have to manually update contacts on the handset, which is no fun when there are hundreds of contacts with addresses, emails, photos etc.
Please help.

6680 Firmware update: Contacts not displayed on ph...

Hi, I upgraded my 6680 withe Nokia Software Updater. Before updating my phone I successfully carried out a full back up of the phone and the 64Mb memory card installed in the phone. I used PC Suite 6.8.13.0 to carry out the backup (it used Content Copier v3.0 that is part of PC Suite). The software update completed successfully. I then Restored the phone from my full backup. This appeared to complete successfully. When I attempted to verify the information on the phone I noticed the following: 1. All data, including custom settings (but not 3rd party applications that I had installed) and all messages were restored to the phone. 2. The Contacts are empty on the phone. I then tried the following on the phone: Contacts / Options / Copy - From memory card. This results in no data being copied from the memory card (I do not belive that the contact dats is on the memory card anyway). 3. I have noticed that using the Nokia Phone Browser in Windows Explorer (Windows XP SP2) that I can see all my contacts in the Contacts section. This indicates to me that the contact data is on the phone. I repeated the restore from full back up process and it had exactly the same results. I then tried backup my Phone memory to the 64Mb card with the following thought - if the contact data is on the Phone in Phone memory, and I back it up to the memory card, then I may be able to try restoring the Phone memory from the card and see the contacts again. I was able to successfully back up the Phone memory to the card. I restored the phone from the backup on the card and it completed with a reboot. There is still no contact data visible in the Contact on the phone BUT they are still visible through Windows Explorer/Nokia Phone Browser. I then tried to go to Contacts on the Phone and choose Copy / From memory card. Again there were no contacts to restore (despite the allegedly successful Phone memory backup) and the Contacts on my phone is still empty. Additional information: I do NOT syncronise my Contacts with any application such as Outlook/Lotus Notes etc. This is becomming the straw that will break the camel's back - unless I can get my phone to function the way it should I will NEVER go near another Nokia product again - and ensure that none of may family do either. Hey, I can second this! Just upgraded the firmware to V4.04.07 on my 6680 and I have also lost visibility of all my contacts. They are however showing in Nokia PC Suite Contacts section when phone is connected. (PC Suite v6.81.130) I did a full back-up of the phone before upgrading fimware, and then tried to restore afterwards. Initially I had problems restoring and it would freeze after 'messages' but eventually after a couple of attempts it made it to 100percent restored. All data seems to have been restored to the phone ok and everything functions (including tomtom) apart from the contacts. I can even sync my 6680 with Lotus Notes for calendar, to-do etc. ok. The contacts were originally stored on the phone for the extra fucntionality as mentioned by martin above. I have tried copying from Memory Card SIM within the phone and it says there are 0 records, I have tried to sync (update button) the PC Suite with the phone and as mentioned previously this does nothing and returns the error ' The syncronisation has been terminated '. I checked the folder C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Phone Browser\Contacts and there were no VCF files in there at all. I also have the PCsync installed (auto-installed when using PC Suite to read messages on phone) and it made no difference before or after. I have tried adding a contact onto both phone and PC suite and neither will sync to the other, with same error as above. I have destoyed the log as described in C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Nokia\PCSync\SynchData and this also made no difference. I am loathed to try the full reset (*#7370#) on the phone as described previously bearing in mind the problems this seems to cause! Did you get past the lock code martin? If I put in new contacts manually into the phone they are saved and work ok - don't fancy doing that over 160 times to re-populate the phone! This is all very dissapointing and not expected of Nokia...strange thing is one of my colleagues has updated several of these phones and never experienced a problem, but this is obviously not unique as a couple of us have raised the point now. Don't see my N80 contacts via PC suite over Blueto...

When I'm connected to my N80 via Bluetooth and open "Contacts" from the PC suite, I see no contacts even though I've synced in about 100 contacts. I can see other files (like JPEGs I've loaded). I'd like to edit some of the contacts without resyncing. How do I do get to see my contacts?
Also, I've set my contacts to sort by first name but they are sorted by last name. How do I change this?

When you open the contacts in PC Suite, it actually open an extended Windows Explorer view and in that window, when you have the contacts folder highlighted, if you press F5 it should update the list of contacts visible. Also there is a small button with phone and arrow, if you press that, it updtes the list.
I did not quite get the comment about editing contacts without resyncing, pressing the F5 actually causes a sync between the phone and PC view and if you then open a contact and edit, when oyu press save, again it resyncs the editied contact to phone.
Unless you save the contact to your PC somewhere, but then obiviously the cahges are not in your phone.

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago avaiable. Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore which i assume will literally delete any new contacts added...?

I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago available on an external hdd as a time machine backup. Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore? The reason i wish to do this is because in the update i didnt lose any messages, so all of the people i have met and networked with since that last update those many months ago, i have in my messages listings. They are all unidentified numbers at present but over time i will be able to work through the messages and based on the conversation recall who each was with. Also, yesterday, some two weeks after the update had left my contacts list entirely empty... a vast majority just reappeard, though all of them are without any phone numbers, all just emails or facebook contacts. This is the work of facebook not mac/ios6 isnt it...? Any help here would be greatly apprecaited. I am about 2 days from flying to canada and having those contacts would make life a lot easier.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there. If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device. If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts. Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done. See if the duplicates are still there.

How do i update my contacts on icloud with the updated contacts on my iphone5?

Apologies if this has already been answered, here's my problem.
I have updated my contacts on the iphone 5 by merging my contacts from my email server hotmail. so how do i send this updated contacts list back to the icloud.
I have tried to exchange, update. but its not as simpe as it looks. i am unable to do this by backing up to icloud or by finding a sync contacts function.
I would appreciate any help and advice as i am trying to create a group for sending team texts out.

Hi - my phone has been destroyed, and so I cannot connect it to the PC (or anything else for that matter) anymore. PC Suite has all my contacts, but the program doesn't seem to have an option for viewing contacts without first connecting the phone. How do I get access to my own contacts without connecting the phone?

As far as I know, you can't access the contacts within PC suite's back up files, nor can you access the callendar, notes and tasks, but you can access all other data within the back up files.You will need to connect a compatible phone to retrieve these contacts from PC suite.

Same problem here. Just added a friend on Facebook and I'm trying to find a way to make him show up in my contacts list. I tried the "Update Contacts" mentioned above, also logged out of Facebook in the settings and logged back in and tried to update again and he's still not turning up.
While looking into this I also noticed a bunch of contacts who don't have duplicates and whose info seems only to be coming from my Google account although I'm friends with them on Facebook and I'd like to have both sets of info available in one place.
So something with the syncing is not working right.
(Also working with 4S & iOS 7)
Edit - ended up in this thread through a search and only just now noticed it's probably in the wrong place in "iPhone Hardware". Anyway if anyone has any pointers that would be greatly appreciated, if not I'll take this to a more appropriate sub-forum.

Try this method:
- Find the "Images" Folder with Finder.
- Right click on iPhoto Library and select "Show Package Content".
- Delete "iPod Photo Cache" completely (don't worry, there is no necessary items inside).
- Plug in your gadget and select the desired photos you want to copy from your library.
- That's all. Now you must have your photos on your gadget without any error.

Why can't I update contacts in address book

I cannot update contacts in my Address book. The command "L" does not work, and the menu item is grayed out. Can do it on the iPhone. Not yet transferred to the cloud, as there are 5 computers on the samd account, and only 3 of them have the Ram required for 10.7. Ordering the Ram today or tomorrow.

AE CS4 loses the mxf support when update the CS4 production suite

I have this problem when updating the CS4 production suite - the support for mxf in AE is gone and this happend almost every time I use the Adobe update. My only solution is to install AE again. Is there a fix for this?

That was just a shot in the dark. The XDCAM codecs are among the codecs that installed separately because they aren't included in the trial version; they get installed when you activate the software (i.e., enter the serial number).
I'd be curious to know whether you can import AVCHD footage when the XDCAM footage isn't working, since those codecs are part of the same package. So are the CC effect plug-ins and Keylight. Do those appear as installed when you have the XDCAM problem?
