Updating .dir movies after update to 11.5.9 on Lion OS

I am using a Mac with the Lion OS.  I just completed purchasing/installing Director 11.5 and updating it to 11.5.9.  I am trying to update Director movies created in Director MX to 11.5.9.  It says it is having trouble saving the files.  I'm not sure I have correctly chosen the code page it asks for pertaining to what the movies were created in.  I have tried both the default Mac and default Win pages, but neither will work.  I'm not sure what page to select, or if that is even the problem.  Can someone give me a hand on getting these .dir files updated?  My programs won't run on lion until I get this done, and people are waiting.
Thanks.
Dewey

As I understand it, if you developed the DIR on a PC then you should choose the ANSI codepage, whereas if you developed the DIR on Mac then you should choose the MacOSRoman codepage (the default, I believe). This should then allow Director to properly convert the text encoding in the source file to UTF8.
I think Clangton hasn't had problems doing as he describes because he's only delivering to one platform (Windows) and this is also his development platform. If he tried to do the same with his DIRs and a Mac projector I expect he'd have problems.

  • Home video not appearing in Videos/Movies after syncing with first generation iPad.

Why is my home video in Shared Libraries but not Movies after syncing with first generation iPad?  It appears in Movies on iPad2 and iPad3.  I've already changed Media Kind to "Movie."  I didn't have this problem 1 month ago when syncing a new video.  Is there a software update issue?  iPad says software is up-to-date.

The video app has 4 tabs across the top.  If they are not hiding  in one of the  tabs, i suspect they are missing the type identifier and the app doesnt know where to show them.  Glas that at least you can find them.
Next time you sync, take a look in i tunes, and see if they are fully labeled there.  I would not be surprised if one the i tunes fields is the key for the pad video app to know which tab to put the, under.

  • .dir movies to iPad apps

Has anyone "converted" their .dir movies to iPad apps?  How did you do it?  What software did you use?
    Thanks.

Posted this in another forum but worth cross-posting. For those that haven't seen it, here's a video of a Director made game exported to iOS, running on an iPad:
    http://youtu.be/NkCksUp61hg
    >We keep hearly that director 12 is coming - but any idea when?
Release dates are generally not discussed, well not until we're close to that point (within a month). Unfortunately, Director hasn't followed a standard development cycle like other products which would allow people to roughly guess when the date may be.
Here are some clues that may give you some ideas.
    - There were some updates to Director (free point updates) released last year.
    - This year, there have already been 2 conference demos of Director and iOS and other things - GDC and Casual Connect.

I have a free agent desk 500 GB external hard drive.  Since updating my iMac OS to Mountain Lion it no longer backs up through Time Maching like it did in the past.  Now, after completing its work it says, "Unable to complete backup.  An error occurred while creating the backup folder."  I cannot find any sites that help me fix this.  Do I need to purchase a new external hard drive?

    Hi Aaron,
Have you looked through Pondini's extensive TM help site?

Can't imaging something not being covered there.

  • Updating the maxfiles limit in Mountain Lion?

I've run into a situation where the default maxfiles limit of 256 is causing one of my applications to crash.  I tried following the how-to in this blog post:
    http://www.g9labs.com/2012/06/20/updating-max-file-limit-on-osx-lion/
but have had only limited success. The first issue is that as opposed to the large numbers he cites, when I manually set the maxfiles from the command line my system appears to permit a max value of 512. Does anyone have a similar experience?
While I can set my maxlimit to 512 from the command line, and that does stop the affected app from crashing, I am unable to force this limit to stick after a reboot.  I followed the instructions (again, from the above-linked post) and created the /etc/launchctl.conf filewith values set to 512 512 but after reboot the limit still resets to 256. After doing some googling I got the impression this could be set by creating the file /etc/launchd.conf instead, but that just locked up my system so badly that it wouldn't even boot in safe mode and I had to boot from an external backup so I could delete the file.
Can someone please tell me how to configure my system so the 512 limit is the default?
    Many thanks in advance!

Well, this may not be the elegant solution but I just updated my ~/.bash_profile to run this line at login:
    launchctl limit maxfiles 1024 1024
The 512 limit seems to have been some kind of glitch because after a reboot I could bump it to at least 1024.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Is there any benefit updating OS 10.6.8 too Lion and Mountain Lion before Maverick?

is there any benefit updating OS 10.6.8 too Lion and Mountain Lion etc. before updating to Maverick?

No. Before you upgrade check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
Do a backup before you upgrade.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
You might update your profile - shows 10.5

What do you mean you're in the process of "downloading the installer for 10.7.3"? If you mean the software update combo, you won't be able to use that to go from 10.7.4 to 10.7.3. The only way you could do that is to reinstall the whole OS from the App Store IF that version is 10.7.3. I don't know if the App store Lion installer includes 10.7.4 already, but if it does, you can't get to 10.7.3 at all.
As for what you do about your slow machine, there are tips all over the internet. I wrote up some of the basic one's to try here:
    http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/12/05/why-is-my-mac-running-so-slow/
Other possibilities not mentioned there are either a corrupt install of Lion (solution; re-install from the Recovery disk) or hardware failure (old hard disks and other hardware components can sometimes give out there last after the strain of a new install).

  • Security Update 2003-001 slows and freezes Lion!

Is Security Update 2003-001 only for Mountain Lion? I am running 10.7.5 regular Lion and now am having extremely slow startups, having to reboot multiple times to suffer and get system freezes. My Mac problems only began after installing Security Update 2003-001, so that's why I wonder if the update requires Mountain Lion in spite of the download being offered in Software Update in regular Lion.
I have thoroughly checked my entire drive down to the sector level with professional software and Disk Utility, including fixing permissions. Can anyone help me?

Thanks for reading this post, but I have probably resolved this problem. Probably. I worked out what programs were stuck running on startup and were gobbling up the lion's share of system resources (pun intended). After pruning out unneccessary startup items and finally installing Mountain Lion, the worst culprit seems to be my copy of Dropbox, who was madly trying to re-make an index of my internal drive for no apparent reason.
After rebooting with the shift key held down, I consulted the official Dropbox site's forums to find that uninstalling a spontaneously damaged Dropbox, reinstalling and reconnecting to the existing Dropbox account was in order. That, with my previous pruning, seemed to do the trick.
So far. I hope my tale helps others.

  • Pages 09 (updated) will not start up using Lion OSX

iWork Pages 09 (updated) will not start up using Lion OSX. It did work at one time but now it won't. I reinstalled iWork several times with updates but the applications say to reinstall or check the developer.  I'm using an i-Mac Intel with updated downloads for all applications.  Thank You in Advance for your thoughts to solving this concern.

What else have you been doing just before this problem started? Any other updates on the computer? If you need to reinstall iWork which some has when upgrading to Lion after a complete uninstall.
To uninstall correctly iWork, go to Yvans iDisk :
    <http://public.me.com/koenigyvan>
    Download :
    For_iWork:iWork '09:uninstall iWork '09.zip
Expand the archive and run the script.
Now you can instal iwork again and do the updates.

I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is slow in starting up and loads a number of probrams. How can I fix the problem?

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the slowness still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.
    Reboot normally and test.

Open the General tab of the Finder's preferences and set it not to be displayed on the desktop. Alternatively, if it's a disk image or external disk, just drag it to the Trash.

You have fragments (leftovers) beyond the end of the Timeline content that you intended.
I am going from an Elements Windows workspace, so please translate into Mac accordingly.
Expand your Timeline content to the maximum with the Zoom Out Zoom In slider above the Timeline.
Press the End key of the computer keyboard. That should take the Timeline Indicator to the fragments which must be deleted.
Explore all the tracks in that area.
Repeat the End key press until the Timeline Indicator stops at the end of the intended Timeline and not some 3 hours afterward.
What you find at "end of track" could be fragments or files that you moved out of the way of the active project and forgot were there.
The fragments typically present as thin vertical black lines scattered about the tracks.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • HT4859 I am unable to recover a rented movie after changing one iPad for another. Music and books were easily restored

I am unable to restore a rented movie after Changing out my iPad for a new one. All music and books were restored easily

PS - have found other posts indicating that clips smaller than 2s or sometimes 5s, or "short files" can cause this. Modern style editing often uses short takes ! Good grief I cannot believe Apple. Well I deleted a half a dozen short sections and can export, but now of course the video is a ruined piiece of junk and I need to re-do the whole thing, the sound etc. which is basically taking as much time as the original. And each time I re-do it I risk again this lovely error -50 and again trying to figure out what thing bugs it via trial and error instead of a REASONABLE ERROR MESSAGE POINTING TO THE CLIP IT CAN'T PROCESS. What a mess. I HATE this iMovie application - full of BUGS BUGS BUGS which Apple will not fix obviously, since I had this product for a few years and see just hundreds of hits on Google about this error with disappointed users. Such junk I cannot believe I paid money for it and Apple does not support it with fixes !!!
If anyone knows of a GOOD reasonably priced video editing program NOT from APPLE I am still looking for suggestions. I want to do more video in future, but obviously NOT with iMovie !!!
