Updating FCS - Quicktime

Just got done doing a clean installation of Leopard and then FCS2.
Of course I nearly finished it yesterday, but while I was doing it I came across the 'don't upgrade Quicktime' to 7.3, and re-started it from scratch.
Here's my question: If I don't upgrade Quicktime to 7.3, I'm unable to update any of Final Cut Studio programs. So...it's safe to keep Quicktime to 7.2 and everything else at non-upgraded versions? This is really the best option?

Good to hear.
I had been having problems with playback, frame drops, rendering, etc. and most of the answers I got on how to fix problems was to do a clean reinstallation of everything. And some posts say to stop at QT 7.2...which doesn't seem to be a viable option since if I don't upgrade QT, I can't upgrade FCP and if I can't upgrade that, I can't open any of my projects...

  • The Sims 2 won't launch since I updated to Quicktime 7.6 on OS 10.4

Last night I installed Apple's latest Quicktime release for Mac (Quicktime 7.6). This resulted in an inability to launch The Sims 2. I tried reinstalling the Sims 2 (http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=552). By the way this solution will also help anyone having problems running the Sims 2 on OS 10.5 as well.
However simply reinstalling The Sims 2 will not fix the problem if you have updated to Quicktime 7.6. Unfortunately I found the only way to get the Sims running again on OS 10.4 was to remove Quicktime 7.6 and to reinstall an earlier version (Quicktime 7.5.5 or earlier). This is not as easy as removing Quicktime 7.6 from your Applications folder and com.apple.QuickTime.plist in the User/Library/Preferences or using a program like Appzapper (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/appzapper.html). When you go to reinstall an earlier version of Quicktime it will say, "unable to install because a more recent version is already installed".
So, the only way to reinstall an earlier version of Quicktime is to reinstall the system software (in my case OS 10.4) using the reinstall and archive option on the OS 10.4 Installer DVD.
Hope this saves some of you some time finding a solution!

"So, the only way to reinstall an earlier version of Quicktime is to reinstall the system software (in my case OS 10.4) using the reinstall and archive option on the OS 10.4 Installer DVD."
Okay, I'm a little slow, but how did you do that? I don't have much experience with the Installer DVD.
Also, thanks so much for posting this. I thought it had something to do with my recent upgrade but didn't remember what I had upgraded. It was QuickTime, and I've spent forever trying to fix other things. You are my hero.

Nothing. You need to download the QuickTime 7 player and apply the code there.

  • I drive a PowerBookG4 (10.4.11) with QuickTime (7.6.4). Need either update of QuickTime or alternative software. Any thoughts. Help

I have a powerbook g4 (10.4.11) with quicktime player (7.6.4). Most internet media play in fits and starts -- not smooth -- no doubt due to the age of my computer and/or quicktime. I can't afford a new computer so need either a software update of quicktime or download of an alternative app that will play smoothly on my computer.
    Help.
    (And thanks)

If the difficulty is with streaming video off the internet, the PowerBook is the wrong computer. While still strong in many respects, streaming video, in some cases requires an Intel processor, and in other cases just won't play smoothly. This is, unfortunately, not a new issue.
One option you might try is to sign up for Youtube HTML5 video. With OS X Tiger and Opera 10.6 you can see if HTML5 delivery of video works better for you. Go to http://www.youtube.com/html5 and Opera can be downloaded from http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=mac&ver=10.61&local=y
In terms of an alternative app to play video, you might try VLC at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

  • Updating to quicktime pro

i just updated to quicktime pro and i'm trying to rotate a video. i've followed the directions (clicking 'window', and 'show movie properties') but I do not see the areas described in the help section with which to rotate the video. i'm not sure my update changed my quicktime version to pro. when i click 'help' and quicktime it shows versions 7.6.2. can anyone help me with this issue?

Make sure in the Movie Properties windows that you've selected the "Video Track". If you see an item that says "hinted video", that is not the correct item. Then when you've selected the correct video track, click on the Visual Settings tab and you'll find the buttons to rotate the video there.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bug in Compatibility Update for QuickTime 7.5.5 ?

After installing the Compatibility Update for QuickTime 7.5.5, DVD Player 5.0.1 began frequently hesitating for a second or so, which completely ruined the experience of watching DVDs.
I reinstalled QuickTime 7.5.5 and that seemed to fix the problem.

    HipHipHooRay!
Why doesn't Apple post messages on the discussion boards of such things? Especially for those on-going discussions relating to problems/issues that the latest software update will fix? Many of us subscribe to the topic related to our issues and word from Apple would be most welcomed.
Did the update work for you?

When downloading updated for Quicktime 7 and Itunes 10 I keep getting an error saying that files shared by these updates has an invalid signature and that the downloaded has been removed. If I don't get that message I get a message saying that the download was unsuccesful and that in order to download I need to go to tools and then select dowload only. Please help I really want to update my iphone!

Thanks for helping out, but I already tried these steps.
I even tried this on a iMac with similar results. The only difference was that the errorcode was called 2001 instead of 21.
Today I took the phone to www.iphoneambulancen.dk. A guy (in Aarhus, Denmark) that specializes in iPhone repairs. I figured, that given his occupation he'd seen most errorcdes. Two hours later, he called me back, and told me that he had replaced the battery.
So, it turns out that a broken battery can cause this behaviour.
    But thanks again

  • Do not update Proapps Quicktime Codecs 1.0.4 on Mavericks

    Hi there,
I'm on a nMac Pro, 12 core, 64GB RAM Mavericks 10.9.1 and the latest versions of AE and Premiere.
I recently (today) updated my Quicktime proapps codecs from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 at the prompting of Apple updater and it has broken AE and Premiere.
The Adobe QT32 server does not respond once either of these apps are opened and when I try to save my project in AE, the save dialogue gets to about 50-80% and then I get the spinning wheel of death, the system freezes up (although not completely, I can still move things around a bit and the clock still ticks forward) and I have to hard restart.
I'm on the phone with Apple Care right now trying to figure out a way to revert back to 1.0.3.
Any help with that process would be appreciated.  I can't find Proapps Quicktime codecs 1.0.3 anywhere on the web.

"At this point do you think the problems are related? In other words, would the same problem have occurred if you did not install the ProApp codecs update?"
I think that's a safe assumption. I have a 100% motion graphics comp that I've been working on that AE chews through pretty easily in multicore, it think it's just not digging the ProRes.  I did have a mograph comp that AE was chewing through, but not anymore :/  This was on my internal drive though, soooo. . .
There may also be an IO component at work here as well.  I'm not working off internal drive on the Mac Pro, rather a USB3 external and I was reading and writing to the same drive.  I'm going to try writing to the internal and see if that doesn't alieveate things a bit.
So now it's just spinning wheels of death all the time.  I'm trying to view a single frame in the comp panel after adjusting and replacing some footage in a screen fill pre-comp and it's just hanging.  I've pressed caps lock to try and free it up, not working.  Nothing is really working.
I've adjusted the RAM settings, allocating more RAM to background processes.  I've probably hard restarted my machine twenty times today.
I'm turning off multicore completely.  What a let down today was.

  • Update iTunes/Quicktime

Every time I turn on my computer I get the message that there's something wrong with squlite3_wal_checkpoint in SQLite3.dll and I can't update iTunes/Quicktime anymore. As far as I know, I haven't done anything at all to cause this problem. What can I do?

But when I tried to update itunes I get an error when it validates the quicktime install and says it can't remove the older version because it can't find a valid Quick Time.msi file. I ran a search and found the file name it wants, but when I tell the installation to look at that file, it says it's invalid.
okay, let's try this technique for removing the previous version of QuickTime.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
does an itunes install go through after that? or do you get a .msi message for itunes, this time?

  • AAC Encoder Broken After Update to Quicktime 7.6

    I have iTunes 7.3.1.3 and Quicktime 7.3.1.70.
After updating Quicktime to 7.60.92.0 every thing seemed fine. However, trying to import songs using the AAC encoder causes an error: "The current encoder settings for bit rate and sample rate are not valid for this file".
I can import songs using the other encoders just fine; it's just the AAC encoder that doesn't work. In fact, converting any existing library tracks with the AAC encoder causes this error - not just new new tracks.
After a little web searching I found others with the same problem after updating to Quicktime 7.6.
So I uninstalled Quicktime 7.6 and reinstalled Quicktime 7.3. Problem solved.
Anyone else have this issue, especially updating to Quicktime 7.6 only with an earlier version of iTunes?
I have never had an issue updating Quicktime separately from iTunes before.
At this time I do not want the aggravation of updating iTunes too.

Does it have to do with the fact that I installed quicktime 7 when I already had the 10.6.3 update?
Yes. Install the update again or this software.

  • Cant not update to QuickTime 7.6

When I go to Software Update, I start to update to QuickTime 7.6 and then receive this message.........
The update "QuickTime" can't be saved.
    Connection reset by peer
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash.
To try again, open the package from the Finder.
    Then the update just stops.
What does this mean? and what do I do to be able to update my QuickTime Software?

  • Cannot update to quicktime 6.5.3

I am currently using quicktime 6.5.2. I am not eligible to use quicktime 7 since it requires OS 10.3.9 or later (I use OS 10.3.4 due to a processor-specific glitch in 10.3.5). I wish to update to quicktime 6.5.3, but the installer refuses, saying that version 6.5.3 is meant specifically for users of OS 10.2.8. This does not make sense. 6.5.2 has always worked on my machine, but it needs to be updated because I have recently had difficulty playing some quicktime videos. Does anybody know how I can download 6.5.3?
    Thanks and kind regards,

  • Finder repeatedly 'refreshes' after update of Quicktime

Software update showed an update of Quicktime, so I installed it. It required restarting, so I quit applications that were open but it timed out before I got everything done. I restarted, and that is when my Finder started 'refreshing' periodically.By that I mean the desktop disappears for a few seconds and then all the icons and windows come back. I booted up from an eDrive I had created through TechTools and ran the computer through directory rebuilding, and optimized, and checked out all the hardware, etc. Rebooted and still have the same problem. Any thoughts?

Yep - me too. Finder crashes every few minutes.. Will try re-installing QT 7.5.5 and see what happens...
