Updating from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard

I know there's been posts regarding this, but I'm not the most computer literate. When I tried to upgrade, it said I did not have enough RAM. This is what I currently have:

Do I need to purchase more RAM? Is this installation hard if I do need to purchase more RAM? Can I have one of the guys at the Apple Store assist me with it? I have an appointment at 1115 tomorrow.
You can absolutely buy and install RAM yourself, for far cheaper than what they will charge you at the Apple Store. I have used http://macsales.com and been happy; http://crucial.com is another good source. There are instructions for how to replace your RAM at both sites, and videos all over the internet for how to do it. You may need a small screwdriver to access the insides of your Mac, but the whole process should take you less than 15 minutes.

Logic 8 should have no problems in SL.
Use Software update to check if you've got the latest update for it (SU will only offer an update if it's not already installed).
Failing that, I'd start by uninstalling Logic and re-install from the DVD in case something got corrupted during the update. -

I have the snow leopard CD but when I put this into the Disc drive it spits it back out to me after a few minutes. I then tried to use the CD from an external Disc Drive and I am getting an USB error saying the device is taking to much power and the USB port will be deactivated. I then connected my mac to my friends mac and placed the CD in his disc drive and tried to install snow leopard through his machine. When i click on the install mac osx it tells me that "the application "install Mac OS X" cannot be used from this volume. I then tried the remote install osx but when I restart my machine and hold the option key it does not give me the option to select the start up disc.
Do i have any further options to install snow leopard

To upgrade to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, you have to call the online Apple store, which in the US is 800-MY-APPLE and order the DVD. Install, Software Update until no more updates, and you'll be at OS X 10.6.8, with App Store access and can load iTunes 7, if that's on your list.
If your new-to-you has OS X 10.5.8, you can't upgrade the operating system any further without purchasing them. If you have 1GB+ of memory and some free disk space, you can upgrade to 10.6. Then you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion, if your MacBook is a late 2008 aluminum or early 2009 model, and has at least 2GB of memory (4GB recommended). Mountain Lion is only available thru download from the App Store, hence the reason to upgrade to Snow Leopard. -
So this disc won't load. I recently bought a new ipod nano, but am unable to put songs on it without the latest version of itunes.

Update from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard
Just got the Mac Box Set to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Do I need to back up before I start installing the upgrade? If so, I've never done a backup on my MacBook. Can you suggest the best way to do so?

Actually, the Snow Leopard installer does the equivalent of a verify disk on the target volume (the one you select for the install) before it will write anything to it, so it is unnecessary to do that with Disk Utility beforehand. And since the installer just writes some pre-install files to the drive but doesn't actually install anything before restarting from the DVD & running the actual install as the root user, you can safely skip the permissions repair, too. (If the volume's permissions are so messed up that the pre-install files can't be put on the drive, then the installer will complain & you can run the permissions repair, but this is very rare.)
Also, I suggest ignoring any advice to run a permissions repair after the installation completes. That only affects files installed with the Apple installer (like the OS itself) & the installer will set the correct permissions for those items. Reserve permissions repairs for times when there is a clear indication that they are needed, like some app complaining that it can't access some file or when application responses are very sluggish, especially at startup.
Unless you just like living dangerously & taking risks, the one thing you must do is backup at least your important user files to something other than the target drive. Cloning the target volume is an excellent idea since if something goes wrong you have an immediately usable replacement, but it is not absolutely necessary. -
All applications in iWork fail to open after installing latest apple update. iMac running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Have tried reinstalling from iWork disc but no improvement. Help!

I'm transferring the iWorks applications from my Macbook Pro 3,1 with Lion to a new MBP 10,1 running Mountain Lion. I transferred the apps over using DropCopy since the older MBP doesn't have AirPlay. Applications show up but crash upon opening. This is the first install so there are no previous plist, versions or such to delete. All three crashed upon opening every time until I just had to have Keynote and purchased again - although Apple agreed to refund that purchase since my previous version quit working. Any ideas since I don't have any previous plist/versions to delete? Thanks in adavnce for any help you can offer.

I hit the button to download and its says after waiting forwever en error has occcured. I keep trying and I can't get the download. I can't access my email account because now it wants the latest version. Can someone assist me with what I need to do?

Actually, you have a Late 2006 model iMac that can use a Maximum of 3 GB of RAM. See the link below. So you can use a 1 GB and a 2GB modules.

Are you using gray system disks from another mac? Normally that message means you're trying, for example, to use disks delivered with a MacBook to install on an iMac. The system disks are locked to the systems they are delivered with and can't be used on other mac hardware.
If that's the case here, call the online Apple store, which in the US is at 800-MY-APPLE, and order a retail copy of Snow Leopard 10.6. -
I'm trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard but my macbook keeps ejecting the disc. It started to install the first time and said it needed to restart to finish, restarted but ejected the disc. It ejects every time now. I've also installed the 10.5.8 combo update but that didn't help it. I've tried restarting the macbook with the disc in, holding c, all that. Why won't this work?!
Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

You cannot download the upgrade to Snow Leopard.

It sounds more like you are trying to use an updater rather than the Snow Leopard installer DVD. You might read over the following:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
E. If updating:
Download and install update(s)
Use Software Update, or
Download standalone updater(s). -
