Updating from 10.5.8 without spending money?

I purchased my MacBook Pro in 2007 (yes, I know it's old) and once I purchased a new computer I barley used my MacBook. Unfortunately, all of my music is on my iTunes on my Mac and when I try to put the music onto my phone it says I need to update iTunes. When I go to update, the itunes requires my OS to be a later version however my computer says there are no updates. I was suggested to update to the snow leopard however I do not want to spend any money considering I barley use this computer. What are my options? All I want to do is get my music on to my phone..
I am currently operating on 10.5.8 and my itunes is version 10.6.3.
Thank you!

Anything you purchased from iTunes can be downloaded directly to your phone: Open the iTunes app > More > Music
If you have non-iTunes music that you want on your phone your owill need to purchase Snow Leopard.
It is $20 USD in the Apple store. Here is a link to the US store:

  • (Self-)signing a MIDlet for use on ~10 phones without spending money

    Hello everyone,
I just spend like 4 hours researching how to sign MIDlet and I am totally confused.
Instead of asking for general instructions I am going to explain what I want to do. Hopefully that will enable people to tell me whether or not this is possible and what steps I should take.
    What I want to do:
    * I have a MIDlet (JAR+JAD pair), written for J2ME CLDC 1.1/MIDP 2.0
    * This program needs to read and write files, as well as access GPS (using the Location API). I have specified the needed permissions in the JAD file (MIDlet-Permissions and MIDlet-Permissions-Opt)
    * The end goal is to be able to run this program on a limited number (<=10) of phones. All phones are Nokia handsets running S60 3rd Ed. FP1/2. They are owned by my organisation so the IMEI numbers are known
    * And now for the important thing: the program should not throw runtime warnings when files are accessed or the location API is used
    * Because this is an entirely non-commercial thing the whole process should not cost me any money
So far I've been testing this application on a single Nokia N95-2 (8GB). Because the MIDlet is unsigned (or at least I believe that is why) it throws lots of runtime warnings (concerning file access and location access, eg: "Allow application X to read user data?" YES/NO). So this is exactly what I need to avoid when deploying this program on the ~10 other phones.
I understand that it is most likely impossible to achieve this with a single "signed" file that can be deployed on all 10 phones. However, supposing there is some free(!) "(self-)signing" procedure that produces a MIDlet that will work without the runtime warnings on a specific phone (identified by IMEI#), I am perfectly willing to go through this procedure for every phone/IMEI involved.
So is this possible? And if so, what are the steps I should take. Please give me as much info as possible. I've been googling for hours and I ave yet to find a decent explanation for a scenario like this.
    Thanks in advance!

It is my understanding (from posts on other forums) that the procedure explained on that webpage ( [http://browndrf.blogspot.com|http://browndrf.blogspot.com] ) only works/worked on Nokia S60 2nd edition devices, due to a bug (or feature?) in Nokia's MIDP implementation. In the 3rd edition of the S60 platform this bug was fixed so the procedure no longer works.
As for my own project, we bit the bullet and got ourselves a Verisign certificate after all (for a whooping $500). So the problem is solved, although it wasn't exactly cheap.
    Thanks for your helpful comments.
    Regards,
    M.S.

  • Anyway to fix freezing of 10.6.8 without Spending money?

I called Apple support but their answer was not useful. I am experiencing problems with my iMac freezing during gaming and during regular use., I barely have any files on this computer as i have another laptop with files on it. Many people say i need to upgrade to OSX Lion but I don't want to spend any money. Any useful links or tips would be appreciated. There is also something called Safe Boot which takes ages. Any ideas how to switch that function off?

Well, if you can't spend any extra money, there isn't much you can do.
You still didn't give me the year and CPU model  of your iMac.
I suspect that one of the main reasons is that you simply do not have enough RAM installed.
Every newer version of OS X has demanded more CPU, GPU and RAM power.
4 GBs is really the "working" minimum amount of RAM just for the main OS X operating system only.
Adding extra RAM is really needed for running other applications smoothly from within OS X.
If you are gaming, then more  CPU, GPU and RAM are, usually, needed.
You can't change the CPU or GPU in iMacs, so the only thing you can address is installing more RAM.
Without knowing your specific age and model iMac, it's hard to advise how much more RAM could be installed to help improve your iMac's performance.
2006 models could only take 4 GBs of RAM. 2007 to 2008 models can take up to 6 GBs of RAM.
2009 models can take either up to 8 or 16 GBs of RAM and 2010 models and up, all can take 16 GBs of RAM and some later models could take up to 32 GBs of RAM.
Also, other things to check. Make sure there are no apps running in the background from login.
Check your iMacs login items to see if there are any apps launching at login that aren't really needed.
Make sure you have no applications waiting in the background ( multitasking) as items launched and just running idle in the background can eat up CPU cycles.

  • My phone will not restore or otherwise work. How do I find if my phone is worth keeping without spending money?

I have an iPhone 3GS. At first my phone was dropping service, then I got a pop up from the phone saying to fix this problem restore phone to iTunes. When going onto iTunes I choose to restore to original settings and update to iOS 6. After waiting for the phone to restore, an error came up saying there was a problem restoring the iPhone. So I tried again and the same error comes on. Now I can not access my phone and my phone is set at factory settings. I went back onto iTunes and iTunes does not register my phone. What do I do?!?

Take it to Apple for evaluation. There is no charge for an Apple Genius to l
look at your iPhone. Make an appointment to avoid delay.

Are you?  If still under warranty or you have Apple Care why not let them deal with it.  Why should you?

  • My MacBookAir wont charge with the Magsafe charger i had gotten with it, but other Magsafes work with my computer. If there is anyway to fix my Magsafe without spending money, then i would being really appreciative of your help.

My Magsafe has been working for almost a year now, but all of a sudden, it stopped working a few days ago. I've been trying to use different AC plugins like the "Duck head" and the long cord one that I don't know what the name is to. As I said in the title, other chargers work on this computer. I need help with this.

That's all you can do on your own. If it's under warranty, have Apple evaluate it. The warranty terms are the same as the Mac it came with.

  • I still have unspent balance in my iTunes account, how can I switch to location without spending the remaining balance?

can anyone help me change my country from USA to Philippines without spending my remaining balance? I still have $0.35 left. Please help me.

You can't change country with a balance - if you can't spend it then you can try contacting iTunes support and ask if they can remove the balance for you : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

Apparently Google keeping a "copy of everything" isn't deterrent enough for you to get another device. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've posted in the Android forum, indicating you have a Google product.
Frankly, I could care less about them copying everything. I don't post or type anything online that's incriminating or private anyway. Technically, your ISP has access to anything and everything you transmit or receive through their network, anyway.

  • HT4363 my macbook pro has 10.5.8 -can't update to 10.6-which is snow leopard i guess?? anyway of doing this without spending more money..just bought apple tv , got 2 ipads and 2 iphones?? an old mac book pro is stopping my ability to homeshare

I just bought apple tv......trying to use homeshare-computer won't cooperate.....have 2 i pads, 2 iphones and can not get my macbook pro-(10.5.8) to update to snow leopard (10.6) which is what seems will make homesharing work between all these apple products. It looks like I have to buy some software to update the computer. Anyone else have this issue or suggestions or even know what I am talking about?? try to update software to snow leopard and it won't allow me to...this is an old macbook pro  but I paid almost $3000 for this computer a long time ago...find it hard to believe that I can't update without spending a million dollars??? thanks.  Mary

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm not entirely sure I follow you here, home sharing comes with iTunes 10.2, so far as I am aware even iTunes 10.6.1 only requires OS X 10.5.8 or better. On that basis I'm not sure why you think you have a problem.

  • How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money?

How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money and time? I've spent over seven hours trying to upgrade an iMac 350 Hz OS 9.1 to Tiger. I have changed the iMac firmware to 4.1.9, but found that my Panther disc was only an OSX Upgrade, although the 3 cds are labeled as Installation Discs. Since I have a Tiger disc I thought I would use that. Unfortunately, my iMac only reads CDs, not DVDs. I tried networking the iMac to my G5, but upon shutdown, the OSX disc cannot be accessed. I copied the DVD files to my iMac hard drive, but again, the OSX disc cannot be accessed after shutdown.
Is there a way I can burn a CD from the files of my Tiger DVD to get this task accomplished?

Excuse me, but I never thought of that, nor did I have any intention of trying to rip off your company.
I purchased four iPods for my family this Christmas. I have six iMacs just sitting around not being used. I thought that I would turn one into an iPod work station, so everyone can use one computer to recharge and hook up to iTunes 7.
Unfortunately, iTunes does not work very well in OS9. Apple decided not to continue to support OS9 very well. I’ve spent several hours attempting to upgrade the iMac so I could set up iTunes 7. Unfortunately, my 3 Panther Installation Discs were mislabeled, and did not allow me to install OSX over OS9. My OSX 10.2.7 Installation Disc is a DVD, and my Tiger Installation disc is a DVD. Neither usable to update the iMac.
All I want to do is set up a dumb iMac as a network interface to my G5 because I've use all of the G5's ports for our recording studio and the iPods need external power source if they are plugged directly into the G5.
If you could show me an easier way to run iTunes 7 on the iMac I wouldn't be as ****** off as I am at Apple for not supporting the 9 older computers I own with usable help and upgrades.

  • Is there a way to run a 2005 PreSonus Firebox(with the firewire) to a mid-2011 iMac 0SX 10.7.2? It says its no longer supporting Power PC? Anything I can do without spending more money on new equipment or a new computer? Please help me.

    Nevermind, I got it working.
I ended up extracting the new vob within MPEG Streamclip, which gave me an m2v and an aiff audio. I multiplexed those two back together in FFMpegX which gave me a complete VIDEO_TS folder with BUP and IFO files I needed.

Need to know your Mac model. If it's a PowerPC, the max OS is Leopard 10.5.x. If it's an Intel procesor, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (for $29) & later to Lion.
