Updating from InDesign 2.02 to newer versions

Hello.
Looks like I need to update my version (2.02) of InDesign for my new computer (Windows 7) - experiencing "out of memory" problems - if I do upgrade to a newer version, will previous documents produced in InDesign 2.02 (that I need to work on now) be affected e.g messing about with my layout etc? - I had this problem when upgrading to newer versions of Microsoft Publisher.

Updating from one OS to a newer version

Presently I have a Windows PC. Now with Windows, whichever version of Windows my pc has on it, if I later want to put a new OS onto it, I have to install the newer OS, but in doing that, it wipes the hard drive, which then means I have to reinstall all my program's and set them up to my liking etc.
I was wondering with Mac. If for example I had an iMac that had for example Snow Leopard, Lion. If I wanted to update the OS to Mountain Lion. Would upgrading to Moutain Lion wipe the hard drive and in doing that remove all my applications and anything else that had been installed?
Or is it possible with Mac to slip stream (for want of a better word) a newer OS onto the Mac and leave the applications etc that were previously installed intact and untouched?

In January of this year I bought my first Mac (Late 2012 iMac 27 inch) and I absolutely love it. The move from Windows to Mac has been an absolute pleasure and I only wish I'd done it earlier.
To follow on from my original question:
Some people recommend that when updating to a new OS, that its best to do a fresh install and in doing so erase all what's on the hard drive. The reason been is to replace any left over files that might cause issue or not play nice with the new OS.
I was wondering if any of the long term Mac users could give their experiences of whether its best to just update the OS and leave everything else untouched and if they've done this have they had issues with leftover files etc from the old OS.

or windows installer service is not correctly installed
the same error happens if i try to uninstall the itunes from the control panel- remove programmes option
im using windows 7 home basic 64 bit version
this eroor is not happening with any other programmes..
can someone tell me how to solve this issue

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Apple guys are deleting posts. I have found my posts have been deleted. Apple should MUST let us downgrade at least to previous release from current which was working fine.

It depends on how the developer chooses to release the new version. If they release it only as an update to the existing app in the iTunes Store then no, you won't have to buy it again. If they release it as a new app - usually they'll change the name slightly - then you will have to buy it again.

I can't save an old InDesign file to the new version

I can't save an old InDesign file to the new version. I keep getting this message:
I can only save the file as .IDML.

This happens to ALL old InDesign files on my iMac (problem does not happen on my Macbook pro). I have saved the files as .idml and opened them again. I get the same error when I try to save the file as .indd. They can ONLY be saved as .idml.
I never embed images and do not have font issues (file was created on the same iMac as it is being opened on now).
Sometimes I get an error when I first try to open an old file - it ays the file is damaged and can't be opened. I try again right after and it opens fine.

Easy peasy!
1. Highlight all the songs you want to remove the artwork from.
2. Pull down File > Get Info (Apple+I on the keyboard)
3. Click the checkbox next to the "artwork" panel.
4. Click OK and the artwork will be removes.
For individual tracks:
1. Hightlight the track.
2. Get Info.
3. Click the Artwork tab.
4. Click the artwork, click Delete, click OK.

I can't update iPhoto from 8.0.1 to newer version

Hello everybody.
I have the iPhoto 09 version 8.0.1 (397), and when I start it, check the updater and show that there's updater to do. Click to update, and then when the software updater check the updater it say me that there isn't any newer version.
I'm trying to install it manually (8.0.2 and even 8.1 version) and it says that this updater is't for my version of iPhoto
What can I do?

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
Have you "cleaned up" your applications folder by moving iPhoto into a folder?
That will do it - all of the iLife applications need to be loose in the Applications folder - at the root lever - where they were originally installed for the updater to work - move them back and they will update (8.1.0 is the latest)
And always backup before updating

If you have the apps you downloaded before in your computer, you could sync your iPhone 3G and get the working apps back in your iPhone. Since the 3G's hardware does not support the latest iOS and many app developers have updated their apps to use the new features of newer iPhones and newer iOS, those updated apps will not work on the 3G, but the older versions will and you can still sync them to your phone if you have those olders versions in your computer.

When firefox trys to auto update, or I manually download the new version, or some but not all downloads off of the web, I get this error message. C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.

First off, when firefox trys to auto update, it fails. It tells me to try and download the new version from mozilla's site. When I try to download the new version I get this: (C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.)
This is the same message I have been getting when I try to download other things off the net. (When I use other browsers to download I dont have this problem)

Your phone is in recovery mode. All the data on your phone is gone. However, I'm sure you didn't do anything foolish like upgrade the iOS before backing up.
You'll need to connect your iPhone to your computer and restore via iTunes like the diagram indicates. Once restored, simply restore your data from the backup you would have made right before you updated.

Uploading old website from DW 3.0 to newer version

Hello,
I have my current website done up and updated from DW 3.0 on an old PC. Its time to upgrade to the new Adobe DW software, but unsure if and how the new software will accept my old website info.
My questions are:
a) will the latest version of DreamWeaver be able to import/upload my old data, files and folders etc?
b) my old website was done from a PC. I use a Mac now. Is the current version of DW mac friendly?
c) assuming there is a mac version of DW, will it, once loaded, be able to import my old website files, and repost them?
Im pretty green with all this so any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated.

Well, first off you won't be able to upgrade from 3.0 to CS4 (10.0). One reason because Adobe only allows upgrades from the previous 3 versions and second, because you are moving from one OS to another.
To answer the Mac question, yes DW runs fine on a Mac. I run CS3 on my Powerbook right now and am planning to run CS4 on a new Macbook Pro once Snow Leopard is released.
With regards to the files and structure of your site, copying the files from the old PC to the new Mac will be fine. I am not sure if the site definitions that are saved will work. You may have to redefine the site and re-enter information such as FTP information back into Dreamweaver. I am not positive about this though so if someone else knows more about this I would trust their answer.

Install update to 3.6.16. New version lost tab history, "Recently closed windows" is inactive.

I downloaded and installed the update to Firefox 3.6.16. When the new version opened, my browsing history from previous use had disappeared, only one tab was present. The [History/Recently Closed Windows] was grayed, so not accessible. Is there any way to restore my previous browsing history from a file?

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

SharePoint Designer workflow - update list item field without creating new version?

I have a list that uses versioning.
I have a workflow, designed in SharePoint Designer, that will track changes in some columns, and if there is a change it will send out an email.
To track the changes eg in the Status column, I have a hidden "OldStatus" column so I can compare the current value with the previous value.
If it's different it means it has been changed, and I send out an email, then update the OldStatus with the current value so they're in sync again.
Problem I have now is that when I update the OldStatus column in my workflow it will create a new version of the listitem. I don't want that. This is a system value change and has no value at all to the end user.
In C# I can do a systemupdate to avoid this, but how can I do this in SharePoint Designer?
Please don't tell me I should write the entire workflow in code, only to get access to the systemupdate command....

Note: the WriteErrorToLog function is a custom function that writes the error to the event log. It's located in another class. You can replace it with your own error handling approach.
