Updating from OS X 10.2.8 - System won't recognize password

I recently updated to OS X 10.5.6 directly from 10.2.8. The clerk at the Apple store didn't think that there would be a problem make this large of a leap, but after installing and rebooting, my system would not recognize my existing password. I was able to log in through the installation disc and changed the password, but when I logged back in, it would not accept the changed password (although the hint that I added when I changed the password showed up after three tries, so I have to assume that the changes were accepted and that the system simply isn't making the connection between what I enter as my password and what the password really is).
Any advice on what I can do to get back into my system? (And yes, I'm aware of all of the 'stupid user' issues, such as typing with caps lock on ... I made sure that the problem is not due to user error.)
I also do not have access to the old OS disks, so I can't reinstall the old operating system even if I COULD get into my system to do so.

That's what I'm saying: I did reset my password through the installation disc, but the system still would not accept this new password. I tried this multiple times with a variety of different passwords — both simple and complex. It made no difference.
Any other ideas?

My sister already had an ipod on this computer. I got one over the weekend and put some music on it using another computer than my home computer. I came home and plugged my ipod in but the system won't recognize it. Every few tries it recognizes it and says its corrupt. Any info is appreciated. Thanks and happy holidays.

NOT DISCONNECT" screen comes up, and my iPod is
recognized in My Computer, but is not recognized in
iPod Updater OR in iTunes... has anyone else had this
problem??? if so, have you fixed it. if you did...

  • I updated to Photoshop CC 2014 and now it won't recognize my Canon Scanner LiDE 210.

I updated to Photoshop CC 2014 and now it won't recognize my Canon Scanner LiDE 210.
Is there a fix for this? It worked with CS6 and CC just fine.

Did you turn off the "show transform controls" option in the move tool?
It sounds like you were using that previously.
And you can always transform by using the Free Transform command (command/control T).

  • I just updated to Mountain Lion and now time machine won't recognize my backups from before the update.

I updated from Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2 on my MacBook Pro
I used disk utility to restore my external hardrive because I read somewhere that that would fix the problem.
It did fix the problem but only temporarily. I was able to view my backups from Snow Leopard, but as soon as I tried to backup again, time machine was stuck
"preparing to backup" for 5 hours and when I quit the prepare I could no longer access my previous backups.

So what happens if you go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General? Are you able to go there at all? If you are able to go there, can you unlock the preferences using the lock in the lower left and your login name and password?
If you are able to do this, can you change the "Allow applications downloaded from:" to Anywhere?
    Best of luck.

  • System won't recognize a RAID after upgrading to 10.5

    Hello,
Two RAIDs were working great on an Apple G5 with OS X 10.4.0. After upgrading the operating system to 10.5 and other changes listed below, the computer doesn't recognize one of the RAIDs. The computer does recognize one RAID, which does not have a port multiplier; it does not recognize drives in the RAID with the port multiplier.
    System: Apple G5 Quad Processor
    SATA card: Sonnet E4P
RAID A: SC-SAT05PM, with Port Multiplier & single SATA cable
    RAID B: Mercury, 2 drives & 2 SATA cables.
All 3 SATA cables connect to ports on the Sonnet E4P.
Both RAID's were created with OS 10.4 disk utility software
Here's how things happened, in order of time:
There are 2 internal drives in the computer, G5..1 & G5..2. My wife installed OS 10.5 to boot from internal drive #2, G5..2. Both RAID’s were recognized by the computer in OS 10.4 and OS 10.5. However, the system was instable and crashing frequently with 10.5. She then dragged the G5..2 10.5 Applications folder to the trash and she only boots to 10.4.
At this point, 10.4 is still recognizing both RAIDs.
We went on vacation and I shut down both the RAID and the G5.
After booting everything back up, the system will not recognize the RAID with the Port Multiplier. The computer Does recognize the other RAID with 2 hard drives.
Any way to get our RAID back without losing the data? I read another thread where somebody suspected firmware in the controller. The drives seem to initialize in the RAID box just fine, and the disk utility sees the individual drives, but reports them as Offline.
Mercury RAID with 2 Seagate drives and 2 SATA cables going to the G5/Sonnet.
Clicking on G5RAID..800 in the left column shows these results
Port Multiplier RAID with 5 Seagate drives: 4 are in the RAID set, 1 is not.
Clicking on disk10, which is grayed out, in the left column gives these results
    THANKS!

The Port Multiplier in the failing RAID system has the Sil 3726 chipset, it’s the card on the left within this page: http://www.addonics.com/products/hostcontroller/pmcc.asp

  • Update from 04/09 (possibly kernel) causing system lock ups

It seems that this is happening only on battery power on my laptop.  I'll be browsing the internet (nothing very intensive) and my laptop will hard lock:  no caps lock toggle, can't ping from another networked PC, shutdown command via power button doesn't work.  I just have to hold the power every time this happens.  I tested last night and the longest uptime I had on battery was 30 minutes, while I never had a freeze on AC.
Has anyone else experienced this?  I don't see anything in /var/log/everything.log, so I don't know of a good way to isolate this, so any advice would be appreciated.  Here are my system specs via lspci:

  • Help please updating from 9.04 to 9.1 system stalls

    hi to all forum participants,
trying to update an 233 Mhz Imac from 9.04 to 9.1 always produces the same reaction. installation starts, tells me to expect a friendly 8 minutes to finish the update but after 3 or 4 minutes the system freezes up and no progress even after long time waiting.
The main cause for the update is that the old HD didnt boot any more -blinking question mark- and replacing it with the original 4GB HD which had 9.0 on it didnt show the external USB HD. Someone told me that USB support is easy only from 9.1 or better 9.2 on. So trying to update to 9.1 seemed to be the remedy but still hooked up.
    Every help welcome
    imac   Mac OS 9.0.x

    Hi, AKG8R -
There was a basic change in Language Kit versions between OS 9.0.4 and OS 9.1 - OS 9.1 is incapable of working with older versions, and since the download updater does not include any Language Kits, it will refuse to install of an older version of a Language Kit is present. Since an OS 9.1 Install CD does include Language Kits, it can replace older versions with newer ones.
There are two solutions that will allow you to use an OS 9.1 download update -
    (1) Use a full-install OS 9.0.4 Install CD to remove (uninstall) any language kits.
    (2) Remove the Language Kits manually. To do this, open the System file (that's the file [kind = suitcase] named System located loose in the System Folder) - just double-click it. Inside you will find three kinds of files -
        • sound files (icon = document with the glyph of a speaker on it);
        • keyboard layout files (icon = document with the glyph of a keyboard on it);
        • Worldscript files (icon = document with the glyph of a globe on it)
Remove all the Worldscript files to the desktop, or to a folder external to the System Folder.
Restart. You should then be able to use the OS 9.1 download update. Be sure to use the language version of the update that matches the base language version of your OS 9.0.4.
In either case, once you have updated to OS 9.1 using the OS 9.1 download update you will not have the use of any Language Kits - you can not install the older versions and have them work (doing that may kill the OS).
However, you can install the correct versions later on, using any OS 9.1 or later version Install CD. This includes using a model-specific OS 9.1 (or later) Software Install CD, since you do not need to run the OS installer in order to install the Language Kits. It does not include using a Software Restore CD.
To do that, while booted to OS 9.1 insert the OS 9.1 (or later) Install CD. Open the folder named Software Installers. Locate the folder in that named Language Kits, and open it. Inside that folder will be an installer file named Install Language Kits - double-click that file, and follow the prompts to install the Language Kits of your choosing.

  • Updated from xp to windows 7 and iTunes won't play music

I have recently updated my computer from windows XP to windows 7, and I backed everything up on a flashdrive. I reinstalled all of my documents from the flashdrive using Window's easy transfer. I then downloaded the new iTunes. After it was done transfering the songs and I went to play a song, it would not play. I then closed iTunes and re-opened it, when a sign pops up that reads "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly." I don't understand what is going on because iTunes has every song I had from when I had windows XP but it won't play them. If you know how to fix this or what is going on I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • Updated to iTunes 10.1 and Now Computer Won't Recognize iPhone

I updated to iTunes 10.1 last night after I plugged in my phone and iTunes prompted me to. After doing so, I restarted my computer, plugged my phone back in, and now I get the message "USB Device Not Recognized" and my phone doesn't show up in iTunes. It does, however, charge while plugged in. The computer just doesnt' recognize it. I've followed the Apple page on what to do if there are driver issues. So I've uninstalled iTunes and all the other components, reinstalled, opened Device Manager and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver from there, have tried to update, but when I do, the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers folder does not exist.
I am running Windows 7, and I have an iPhone 3Gs running iOS4.1.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I'm out of ideas.

Well, I figured it out. My sync cable was the problem, apparently. I just used a different sync cable and it magically downloaded the driver with no problem and itunes popped right up. Figures, eh?

  • System won't recognize microSDHC card

I just purchased a SanDisk 4 GB microSDHC card to use with my phone. I tried to connect it to my mac via the front USB port in order to load some music & pics on it. I am not able to get the finder to locate the card, however. I have gone into finder general preferences, and all boxes are checked to show items on the desktop (my external drives show up on the desktop just fine). I went into disk utility to try and format it, but it doesn't show up there. When I go into the system profiler, I can see it as "MobileMate Micro" on the USB device tree, but otherwise cannot seem to get to it.
The reader I'm using is the one that came with the card, so that shouldn't be an issue. I have a PowerPC G5, running 10.4.11. Hopefully someone has an idea how to make this work. Thanks in advance!
    Tanya

I'm in the exact same boat, only difference is that I'm using my card with a Canon Digital Rebel. I can get the images to download to my computer only when I connect the camera and use the software that came with the camera to download. It won't even do that if I just stick the memory card into my Belkin card reader. I have an old SanDisk 256mb card that I stuck in the reader and that one worked (it was formated on a PC, I don't know if that makes any difference).
So yeah, this is really rather frustrating to me, especially because now I have to take out my huge-bum SLR camera and connect it through a USB cable.

  • My Windows 64 bit system won't recognize my ipod/itunes...

I am using Windows 7... My brother and I also share the same computer, and our music libraries are quite different.  I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not.  I've tried removing the software and reinstalling it, but it doesn't always work.
WOW, the program has been removed from my PC... and while I was typing this, the itunes sync page popped up!  I don't know what is happening, I just want to listen to music.
    Help me please.

Bought Imeasure which won't work so I tried to contact the developer and the email won't work so I went to refunds and the BBW refunds does not recognize the number they gave me.  The error says the number is supposed to have 8-10 numbers and this has 8 so it should work. I tired adding a zero at either end and nothing.  There is apparently no other way of contacting anyone.  The dollar isn't important I just wanted to see how it works.  Apparently it doesn't.

okay, after a few emails the developer has decided his Imeasure does not work on BB10.2. end of story for now

Mountain Lion is OS X 10.8
    10.6 was called Snow Leopard.
To use iTunes 10.7 the following is required:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor and 512MB of RAM
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    Safari 4.0.3 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Do you use iTunes Match?
That way all of your songs would be matched with the master song on the iTunes servers independently of iTunes on your Mac or PC...
