Updating GB 4.1.2 and Apple Loops

Updating GB 4.1.2 and Loops
Most of the apple loops are missing from my Garage Band which came with a new MacMini. When I clicked Software Update - the Garageband updates showed a lot of apple loops, etc included. However, when I started to download it said it would take 4 HOURS! Is this normal for DSL?? Is there a way I can just get some of the loops and whatever necessary "bug fixes" there are, without downloading 4 hours??
Is there a way to edit the existing loops and saving them?? How?? I tried to put a loop into the screen that shows waveforms, but cannot figure how to cut it (say from 8 measures 4) and then save to a file. When I found some loops outside GB, they appeared to be all in QuickTime format, which would not open in GB. I'm really confused.
Does GB open WAV files??

For the first part you need to use the DVD option to download the loops: http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/NoLoops.html

  • Garageband Instruments and Apple Loops 1.0 update keeps repeating

I have OSX Yosemite 10.10.2 and Garageband 10.0.3. The auto update for Instruments and Apple Loops 1.0 appears and runs as an available update on a daily basis despite the fact that it has previously updated Garageband. Help please.

    Paul,
I think what is happening is, that the update you are trying to install is meant for the new Mavericks compatable version of GarageBand - GarageBand 10.0. When the download finishes, it cannot be installed properly, because GarageBand 10.0 is not present. With GB 10 installed, these instruments download with no problem on my mac.
GB 10.0 is free on Mavericks - so, honestly, download and install GB 10.0 in addition to your current version. Let it download and install additional instruments and loops, launch it once to let it rebuild the loop index, then ignore it. The application does not need much space, and perhaps you may want to use occasionally the automatic drummer or the Arpeggiator. Before downloading GB10.0, make a backup copy of GB '09, just in case the installer should try to overwrite it.
After GB 10 installed the additional instruments, search for all places with installed loops in the system library and rebuild your loop index.

  • I can't update Instuments and Apple Loops

I don't know what is going on here with the Garageband update "Instruments and Apple Loops".
Everytime when I try to install I got this error below:
"The update “GarageBand Instruments and Apple Loops” can’t be installed.
The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs."
I tried many times and no sucess.
I tried to repair the HD and permissions and still nothing.
This only occurs with this update, the others work fine.
I search the forum for same problem and I found a lot of treads tell to choose the third option ( install from DVD) but I dont have this option here in my Garageband. When I click in a instrument the garageband show me a window with two options. "Download Now" or "Download Later".
    Any suggestion ??
    Thanks

  • MIDI Banks and Apple Loops Trustworthy Downloads?

I am currently attempting to locate and download MIDI banks and Apple Loops that I can use in the future, but I'm looking for a trustworthy site (a one stop shop if you will) to do this.  If we only have Garageband installed, and not Pro Logic or any other programs, then is Garageband the only program to open up and play around with our MIDI banks or Apple Loops just for fun?  I mean, is there another way we can open our loops simply to play around with and be able to pick out sounds we like, then perhaps save different sounds we like for future reference?  I'm confused on how to actually open the loops and MIDI banks, so I need someone to tell me precisely how to do this if we just want to begin exploring.  Thanks!

You can open Apple Loops in the Quicktime Player. Many sample producers offer their libraries in Apple Loops format as well as the more traditional standard WAV nowadays, so you should have no trouble finding plenty of resources.
Quicktime Player will also play GM MIDI files.

  • What are:  LiveType Media 1 & 2 - And Apple Loops?

    Hello Hello
I just bought and installed the 'FCE HD Version 3.5' Upgrade - looks nice
Apple bundled with it, 'LiveType Media 1 & 2' - And 'Apple Loops'.
Before I install these programs, can you guys give me a brief description of what these programs do you for?
    Why do I ask?
Well, I already have Sound Studio 2.2.4, and iLife 6. I just didn't want to install these new programs until I can find out if they're really worth it?
I guess the 'Apple Loops' will add some addtional sound effects to my Garage Band Sound Effects Library?
    Thank you my friends
    Mike

    Hi Tom
Thanx so much for replying to my questions
Yes I see what happened - I 'UNCHECKED' those applications when I installed FCE HD, because I wanted to ask you guys about it's usefulness first. So I'd have to go back and re-insert the install disc to install them. But that's ok..
Tom - could you please tell me a little more about what 'Sond Track' offers?
I mean, can you do the same things that you can do in Garage Band?
    EQ, Effects, Presets etc... ?
And are there any cool sound effects on that Apple LOOP Disc? Like the ones that Garage Band gives you?
    Thanx Tom
    Mike

  • All drum loops in LE 8 are greyed out and Apple loops utility 'can't be installed'

    Hi
I installed Logic Express 8 and have loads of loops missing, especially the drum loops.
Even the Apple loops utility is giving me problems. It looks like the Apple loops utility was installed (because I have the icon for it now), but everything inside that utility is greyed out. When I try to re-install it, i get the error message 'Apple Loops Utility can’t be installed on this computer. The specified message could not be found for the index 0.'
    I have a new MAC Mini OS X 10.6.7
    Help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: I have looked through other related discussions here but could not find the naswer.
I also just checked in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops to see if the files are  there and of course they are not.
In fact, funnily enough, there are 0 files in the apple loops (although I do have plenty of loops that do play in LE8, just not the drum loops), which is strange. Where are all the files?????
I also found the following interesting point in the discussions here:
'The standard installation doesn't install all the loops. You'll have to do a custom installation and check the GB extras.'
The problem is that I am never given any option to do a custom installation when I install. It only offers the normal installation mode.

    Hi,
    1. On the newer Macs, iLife 11 or so, only a part of the loops is being installed, and the other part must be downloaded via software update. GB will tell you so if you select a greyed out loop.
    2. Loops should all be in "(your HD)/library/audio/apple loops/apple", not in the user library.
    3. If you find the loops are installed there but aren't shown in LE or in GB, you might want to re-index the loops.
    4. If loops are still missing after re-indexing, drag the loops folder straight above your loop browser and drop them there - this should add the missing loops.

  • Problems with indexing and Apple Loops on External Drive

Ok, so I've recently moved my entire "Apple Loops" folder to an external drive and created an alias pointing back the "Audio" folder where the apple loops folder used to reside. The problem is when I bring up the loop browser, it's not finding the loops. Do I need to move the Apple Loops Index to the external hard drive as well? I assumed by creating an alias, it would just go to my external drive.

Someone had said that it's better to use the alias for the apple loops since Logic will always go to where it expects the loops to be first. Which I'm assuming would be faster. But, if it truly doesn't matter and I should just drop all my apple loop folders one by one from my external hard drive, then I"ll do that. Anyone heard about what's faster....alias Vs. external HD direct path?

  • Opening garageband projects in LE and Apple Loops

I know I have to set the key of the song when I start a new Garageband project but the problem I'm having is that most of my songs don't stay in that particular key(I usually just set it to C). How can I get the loop browser to ignore the key and play the loops in their original key when I'm browsing? Is this possible by opening the GB project in Logic Express? Does the Logic Express loop browser ignore or have the ability to ignore whatever key the original GB project was in?

    Hi Joey,
    I don't think so,
I believe the only way you have is to transposit
once it's add to the arrange window.
the best you can do while browsing loops is search by key.
    Cheers,
    Jorge

  • Can't install Garageband Instruments and Apple Loops 1.0 on OS Mavericks

Today I decided to download (one more time) the Garageband Instruments update and I waited for like 5 hours+ and when it was almost finishing the download it appeared that I was already installed. So I went to Garageband to check out the new instruments and nothing was there, it was just like before the update and when I click on a new instrument to try it out, this message appears just like before download this:
And when I go to the Mac App Store to download it again this is what I get:
And after clicking the Update and/or the Update All button, it turns gray and says it is installed, it doesn't load or anything, I just click and then appears just like in the image below:
My MacBook Pro is currently running the latest version of OS Mavericks and the latest Garageband ver. which is 6.0.5. I really need to use those new Instruments and can't figure out how to fix this... Thanks in advance to whoever helps me.
Side note: I already tried restarting/turning it on and off and it didn't work

I'm sorry but I can't find any button written 'Accept' on that page. On the Garageband app it is written Installed in gray just like on the Mac App Store. See the screenshot below if you could:

  • ITunes 10.5 and Apple Backup won't run correctly for update to iOS 5.

I'm trying to update my iPhone 3GS to OS 5.  When I update to iTunes 10.5, click update, and begin the backup that's required before updating to OS 5, iTunes and Apple Backup get stuck in an endless death loop.  The striped bar in the top window of iTunes just keeps spinning and it claims to be backing up the phone.  But this continues for several hours and the update to OS 5 never starts.  I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 10.5 several times because updating to OS 5 requires iTunes 10.5.  I've got plenty of RAM and a 2.0GHz computer.

Ok, here is what worked for me. Copied from sodaboy581's post:
Posted this in another thread!  Sounds stupid, but this will actually work.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator")
    3. Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
    4. Restart iTunes.
    Problem solved.
At least this fixed it for me on my own Windows 7 x64 installation.  I had AppleMobileDevice.exe, APSDaemon.exe, and iTunes.exe all at 25% CPU simply from opening up iTunes.
25% CPU for me is 100% CPU per core since I have 4 cores.
Got it from another thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3383549?start=0&tstart=0
    Thanks, sodaboy!!

One caveat is that the iPhone (mine is a 4S) doesn't "wake up" while this is happening and hitting the "Home" button does not display "slide to cancel" as it usually does during a backup. Oh well, it still worked!

  • Apple loops download doesn't work?

Just upgraded to a new iMac and noticed many of the standard Apple loops are greyed out. When I double-click one, I get:
"The Software Instrument or Apple Loop selected is not currently installed on your computer. Would you like to install the complete set of Garageband instruments and loops?"
Selecting "Download Now" and clicking "OK" causes Software Update to launch, but the latter tells me everything is up to date and it quits.
If I later go back and click on the missing loop again, I get:
"The Software Instrument or Apple Loop selected is currently being installed. You have already initiated the installation of additional content for GarageBand via Software Update. For additional information please open the 'Software Update' application."
Nothing is, of course, happening with Software Update. It quit thinking there was nothing to do, and opening it again will only result in the same message that everything is up to date. I can't figure out what to try next. Any suggestions?

I just went through this about five minutes ago; I'm running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, with iLife 11.  My system was upgraded to both of these (I think it came with OS X 10.5 and iLife 9).  The extra loops don't seem to be on either DVD, however if you reinstall the default loops package, that seems to kick things into gear.
No matter if I selected Download now or Download later, the loops refused to show up in Software Update.
Here is what worked for me:
    Quit GarageBand
    Insert the iLife 11 CD
Right-click on the "Install iLife" icon, and choose "Show Original"
Run the GarageBand_Loops.pkg package.  Go through the installation, once that's done:
    Open GarageBand
I then opened a song I'd made with loops.
Click on one of the missing loops. (Yes, they're still missing, but that's ok now)
    Select Download Later.
    Quit GarageBand
    Run Software Update
The 1.2GB "GarageBand Instruments and Apple Loops" update showed up!  Finally!
    Let Software Update install it.
I just did this five minutes ago (May 20, 2011)
I just opened my song in GarageBand and all the loops that were missing are there now!  Success!

  • Using multiple arrange windows + drag apple loops from one to another

does anyone or has anyone experienced this?
when you drag a apple loop from on arangement to another (both the same tempo) the apple loop will not cycle correctly, and audio instruments have to be shifted via the delay parameter for both AI and Apple loops to line up. this is a frequent accurance for me.
    logic 7.1.1

i resign this topic. guess i am the only one who uses this work flow. cheers.

  • Reverse an Apple Loop?

Is there an easy way to reverse and Apple Loop? I'm wanting to mess around with some of the samples in my library, but it seems that the only way to do this is to first save the file with another audio editing program, then bring the copy into Logic.

I just posted a tutorial on how to edit Apple Loops (including reverse, silence beats...) from Logic without having to bounce them (the loop never moves from its position in your Arrange window).
I even posted a little mp3 of my sliced, reversed apple loop!
