Updating images once placed into a document

I've placed various images in an iBooks author document. Now, I am being asked to modify those images. I can't find out how to update the images in the document and inside widgets without recreating everything. I am a print designer and familiar with working with Adobe InDesign. With InDesign whenever you modify an image, you can update it easliy within the InDesign document without having to redo anything. Is there something similar in iBooks Author that i am missing?
My main concern is that I've created all of these galleries with titles and text associated with them and now am being asked to modify the images only. The only thing i can see is to delete the image and replace it into the gallery, but then I loose all of the titles and text I've already entered and I have to re-align the image within the mask.

Not sure I understand the problem. I can drag a new image, or a modified version of a previous image, into a gallery and none of the text changes (caption or title). Click on the image in the gallery, then drag a replacement. Works for me.
It works the same way for single images not in galleries. If the image is defined as a placeholder (Format>Advanced>Define as Media Placeholder) I can place other images without affecting the caption or title.
Like you, I wish IBA had the InDesign function for easy updating of modified images, partly because we could then work with low-res index images, thus keeping the IBA file small until it's finished. But I have a workaround. I make my own low-res versions of book images and use those for placement until I'm ready to commit the design. Then I have to replace them all, one by one, with full-res images as described above. Not as smooth as ID, but it works.
Note: when you down-sample to make low-res versions, be sure you keep the image dimensions the same. Change the pixel resolution but leave the physical dimensions the same as the original.

Loss of Color in my images when placed into IDD.

I am a photographer working on a book involving stained glass, the accurate color reproduction of my images is super important. When I place my images inside the IDD file, there is an immediate loss of color information. It looks like what one gets when jpgs are compressed to much.
If import and sRGB file into IDD CC, it losses a lot of info and is unacceptable, however when I import an Profoto RBG file into IDD it looks close, but not quite there. See the attached file.
Tiffs or uncompressed JPG's, it doesn't make a difference. The color spaces are all set to profoto RGB to get it close, but I would like the images to look as they do in Photoshop.
The attached file is a side by side of the image displayed in PS on the left, the imbedded file in IDD on the right. They are close, but you will notice a loss of color information, less saturation, and the backgrounds are a little different.
How can I get IDD to display the images as PS does?

It really seems like a profile issue
What profile is listed in the Links panel when you select the image. I can replicate your screen capture by placing the image with proPhoto embedded and then duplicating it and overridding the profile to AdobeRGB:

Last image placed in the document comes up as being modified constantly

I have an indesign issue.
Running CS4 (6.06) and CS5 (7.0.4)
On snow leopard 10.6.8
On a Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon
My problem is that when I have a document with images in for some reason it seems that the last image placed in the document comes up as being modified.
I do the required update everything appears up to date save the job and the same link will again show as being modified, so I get in to an infinite loop.
This happen with documents saved locally and on a server, with documents I created and documents I have picked up form other artworkers.
It is not an issue with specific link as we have seen this in many linked images, I tried to identify a trigger for this problem.
I took 4 images placed them into a document save locally in my desktop opened closed the document after each image was placed, it work fine for all 4 images on there own. I added a text box to my document saved and the last image placed then flagged are being modified in my links panel, I deleted the image that was flagged as modified from the document and saved, as soon as I saved the next image in placed order now came up as being modified (this image was not flagged and being modified when I have 4 images placed).
If I remove the text box from this document at any point then no images are flagged as modified.
Just to confirm. This in not based around one document, specific images or one mac. I didn’t have this issue with 10.5.8 and Older CS4 on the same machine.

You said this is not an issue on just one machine. Does this mean that other machines are alos showing this behavior?
The first thing to try for any flakiness like this is: Replace Your Preferences
That said, this sounds like it coud be some sort of conflict. Are you running any third-party plugins?

Is there some way to import image files directly into an open document?

Is there some way of importing a series of image files, say jpegs, directly into an open document, rather than having to open all the image files and having to drag and drop each individual one into the open document? Specifically, I'm a dentist and I often get digital xray images emailed to me from other offices. But they come as 16 or 18 individual image files and I have to put them into a virtual "xray mount", so I can view them all at once, rather than having to open all the images and toggle among them. So I open a blank document in PS (CS4), then I navigate to the folder containing all the image files I received, select all of them and open them all. Back in PS, I now have to select each image tab and drag the image into the blank "mount" and close the image. That new image then becomes its own layer in the "mount" document. But I have to repeat this 18 times for each patient! I was thinking if there was a way to open the new "mount" document then select all the image files and somehow "import" all the image files directly into document - essentially "automate" the process - that'd save me BOATLOADS of time and aggravation! Anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks alot!! Dr. G.

Thanks, Curt! When u say "animate" do u mean File | Automate...? Inside Automate, I can't find "Make Frames from Layers"...if you do mean "Animate" I can't find that menu. Zeno replied with a BRILLIANT clarification:

I tried that and it works like a charm! I select all 20 layers in the new document that "stacking" creates and just drag them all onto the virtual "mount" document. That's it! Then I just move each of these layers around as I would otherwise...it's just 1 click and 1 drag/drop. Unless someone comes up with a way to actually "import" all the images directly into the "mount" document, I think this appears to be the most efficient route to follow.
I really appreciate your guys' assistance! It's so great that you guys monitor the forum and help us out with our Photoshop problems! What an awesome program it is, right?

As a debugging step, try printing to the Adobe PDF printer. If that fails, repeat with print-to-file selected. Assuming the print succeeds, open the file in Distiller to complete the creation of the PDF. If you get the PDF, then check to see if AcroTray is properly working as a background task.

How do I get a 300dpi image into a document as required by CreateSpace.

I need to submit 300 dpi photos in my exported .pdf file to CreateSpace to render sharp clear images when printed on paper. This was no problem in Pages '09. But now dragging, importing, or pasting a 122.9 MB 4800 x 6400 pixel 2000 pixel per inch photo into an iPages 5.0 document yields a 77 KB, 173x231 72 pixel per inch photo in the document. This is an extreme example but all photos seem to have been downsampled to 72 pixels per inch. I understand some of the complexities of translating DPI to PPI and back but throwing away 122.823 MB of data has got to hurt rendering. Is this a new iPages "Feature" or should I be using a different approach? I'm using Preview to check the image DPI and size.

I created my document in pages. Dragged photos, that I had resized and resampled in Preview to make sure they were 300DPI at least, into the document. I then export the document to .pdf using BEST image quality.
The exported document was flagged by CreateSpace for 72DPI rather than 300DPI images. When I checked the document I found when I selected an image, copied it, and brought it up in Preview as New From Clip board, it was indeed 72DPI and much smaller than the original that I drug into the document.
I then found that this happens immediately when it is copied from a folder and pasted into Pages. Copy a 1 MB image and paste it to both Preview and Pages. Then go into pages, select the image, copy it, and paste it into Preview. Show inspector on the two images I've gone from 1.4MB to 300DPI .tiff file to 44KB 72DPI .png file.
The same happens on .jpg files.

I can create and veiw a (PolicyBanner) rtf document just fine. However, the image I placed in the rtf document does not show. (I've tried both jpeg & png) How was the image placed in the sample doc?

Needs to be saved as a .rtfd
or export as .rtfd and go from there.

I think that may be a consequence of the email provider she is using. Some services (AOL is one example) inspect and modify email attachments, particularly photos, resulting in reduced resolution compared to the email that was sent.
The iPod does not do this. The resolution of the picture in the email she receives will be identical to what is imported.

Grabbing the filename of the document a dynamic stamp is being placed into.

I need to get the filename of the "parent" document a stamp is being placed into to put into one of the stamps textfields. This was what I was hoping would work inside of stamps textfield custom calculation:

Thats a no go. For some reason activeDocs is always empty, despite the fact I have 3 pdfs open. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is not working? Have a better idea to do the same thing?

Illustrator vector images loses layers when placed into InDesign

I have a illustrator image that I want to paste into InDesign - I have tried pasting and placing however it appears both ways do not paste all the image elements. See below - any ideas?

Pasting Illy artwork is for very simple drawings. Complex shapes and objects may not coming into ID exactly the way you want.

I can't place images from Photos into InDesign since updating to Yosemite 10.10.3. Is this an Apple issue or an Adobe one?

For all Jedi Masters: How can I update images in ScrollingImagePanels ?????

I have posted an old topic but now i understand my error.
Please people!!!! I think it is very simple, but i am not getting results at updating images in ScrollingImagePanels.
My ScrollingImagePanel in a JInternalFrame, and the JInternalFrame is in a JDesktopPane.
In my code i try to remove the actual ScrollingImagePanel and create a new other. But the are no references to the ScrollingImagePanel in the else block. The code doesn't compile. Please, see the code below for a good compreension:

Ah! I'm sorry. Probably I couldn't explain you my problem. So let me give you some background.
We used to generate the preview of all the pages in an InDesign document using the export functionality. But we found that, it's a slow process especially when the document uses images that are huge in size (can even be 2 or more GB). So we decided that since InDesign already has the preview (we can see this even the image link is broken), why shouldn't we use this?
But while doing this, I realized that I can't get the preview of other pages except the first page.
So, can we say the script can't generate preview images of all the pages (I'm not talking about the individual images placed in a page), or the script is OK but it can do that only for CS5?
