Updating imported images automatically?

I am working on an all-Fireworks 8 mockup, and I want to be
able to build each piece of the mockup separately, then bring them
all together into one complete Fireworks document. My question is,
can I get it so that when the pieces are edited and saved outside
the "complete" document, the "complete" version updates with the
new pieces?
Example: Images 1 and 2 go into larger image 3. I save and
close image 3. Now I open and change image 1, then save and close
it. I'd like to be able to open image 3 and either have the new
image 1 updated automatically within image 3, or take a command
from me to update it.
Obviously Dreamweaver is a potential solution, but for
various reasons I'd like to keep it in Fireworks. Is this possible?
Thanks for your thoughts!

There's no way to link to an image file like JPG or GIF. That
would be a wonderful enhancement in my opinion so feel free to log
it:

However, you can do some interesting stuff with Symbols and
Fireworks PNGS. There's no way to automatically update a "complete"
document with assets from other PNG documents, but you can manually
update assets connected together by using Imported Symbols. The
workflow is a little wonky at this point, but I think it still
works. Here's what you do:
1) Create a document with your asset or all your assets.
Convert an asset (such as an image, or a whole selection of
multiple objects) into a Symbol via Modify > Symbol > Convert
to Symbol. Give it an appropriate name.
2) Go to your "complete" document.
3) Open Window > Library
4) Click the panel menu in the upper right of panel, and
choose "Import Symbols". Navigate to your asset document.
5) You'll get a dialog which shows the name and preview of
the Symbol you made in step 1. Select it and any others and import.
6) Now you'll see those symbols in your Library. Drag them on
to the canvas and position/size them.
Now you have a linked, Imported Symbol. Now let's say you
update the symbol in the asset file. You can update the linked
symbol in your "complete" document like this:
1) Go to the Library (Window > Library)
2) Select the symbol you want to update
3) Click the panel menu in the top right of the panel, and
choose update (note, the document that contains the original symbol
needs to be saved)
Note that unfortunately this doesn't seem to work with the
Common Library which was introduced new in CS3.
All that said, I honestly don't really use this workflow much
anymore. Now that we get multiple pages in a single document I just
put all my assets on a spare page called "assets" and put them in
symbols there, so that if I update the symbol it does automatically
update it on the other pages since it's all in the same document.
Hope that helps.

  • Import images alignment

Is there anyway to align imported images automatically to the top left of the stage?
I'm using File, Import, Import to Stage which works great for importing multiple images from a folder BUT if I have resized the stage at all (to fit the image size) they align with their top left corner in the centre of the stage.
Not such a problem with a few images but it's a real pain if you are importing hundreds. I'm using CS4.
    Many thanks
    Peter

If you are importing them to separate frames as a sequence, then I don't think you have any other options.  You could always import them into a movieclip instead of the main timeline and then see if positioning that works out as you intend.  It may not align them to align to the registration mark as you intend, but they may all align to the same upper left corner location.

  • Imported image's position moves when updated in Indesign CS6. Why??

After modifying an imported image from illustrator, the imported image's position moves within the frame of Indesign CS6 when the link is updated.

You have not provided any relevant information, so nobody can know. you can simply have added content that expands the bounding box. Well, whatever, ask in the relevant forums and be much more specific.

  • Recently imported images not displayed automatically

When I import images from a card reader the Organizer no longer automatically shows the recently imported images.  In order to view them I must do Find on Untagged items.  I thought I was selecting to turn off  the dialog box asking whether I want recently imported image to be automtaically shown but I must have selected that the images themselves not be shown.  How do I restore so that recently imported images are shown so I may easily tag them.  I am using PSE 8.

Do you have Show All files checked in Edit->Visibillity menu. Also please check if you have View->Media Type checked for all the media types

  • Automatically have motion trace a line drawing over an imported image?

I was wondering if there is any way for motion to automatically follow the path of a line of a drawing that I imported from photoshop so that I could make this image appear to draw on? It would seem sensible that the program have some way of selecting a particular color (the way you can do that in photoshop) and then create a line path out of that to replace the imported image so write on effects or anything else could then be applied. Anyone have thoughts on this?

It'd be nice, but there currently isn't a way to turn a bitmap into a path... you can key a color, but that's about it...

  • How can I use wget, cron and Automator to periodically pull a dynamic image from a URL to local storage, and then update a Keynote slide with that image, automatically?

How can I use wget, cron and Automator to periodically pull an image from a URL (which is dynamically updated - like a weather map, say - to local storage, and then update a Keynote slide with that image, automatically?

Any particular reason for those specific technologies?  wget does not exist on a mac, although you can nstall it I guess.  OS X has curl installed which should do pretty much anything you want to do with wget.  cron is being replaced by launchd, although cron still exists on mountain lion.
As far as I can tell from automator all the standard 'actions' to access keynote  available to it require keynote to be open and running, but does not provide a function to actually open it.  So I think you will have to write some applescript, as a minimum to open and quit keynote. I notice that the keynote actions are mostly circa 2005 an wonder if they would even work.
Under utilities in automator 'actions' there is a capability to add applescripts as part of the workflow.
Also, note that cron is being dprecated by Apple and replaced by launchd.  that said cron is stil on my mountain lion instalation.
This entry at stackoverflow shows use of cron with curl to get web urls.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1683620/getting-started-with-cronjobs-on-a-ma c
If I have any time I may try and get this to work as it is quite interesting and new to me.  But otherwise, good luck.

I own Lightroom 4 and have updated the software however, I am unable to import images taken on the Sony A6000. I have also updated the raw converter and am still having this issue.

You can either upgrade to Lightroom 5.4 or later, or use the free Adobe DNG Converter version 8.6 to convert your RAW photos to DNG, which then will import into Lightroom 4.

  • Automatic scaling of imported images in timeline.

I am working in a HD 1280x1080 timeline, and I am importing images (jpgs, tiffs and PSDs) into the timeline, but they are getting scaled automatically, which is not what I want.
I am aware of the pixel-apect issue- what I would like if for the images to appear at 100% of their original size in the time line.
Any one know how this can be accomplished?
    Thanks.

I think the automatic scaling is a "feature" of FCP ... it does save time in most instances. But for your situation, place the images in the Timeline, double-click one of them to load it into the Viewer. Click on the Motion tab and change the scale value to 100% and the aspect ratio (under the Distort control) to 0 if needed. Next, right-click on the image in the Timeline you just adjusted and choose 'Copy.' Then select all other images in the Timeline, right-click on one and select "Paste Attributes" from the contextual menu. When the Paste Attributes window opens, select 'Basic Motion' and 'Distort' then click OK.

  • Aperture 3.3 updated. Importing images, can no longer access drive

This has happened several times. Let me try and explain it a little better.
I import images, step away from my computer, come back screen is blank (display asleep) the computer is not. I hit the space bar to bring it back to life and then try to do the next import. For some reason Aperture cant find the disk after that. I can get to it in finder and see the filesystem and folders.
The only way I can get back into the library is to disconnect the drive, close aperture, plug the drive back in and start aperture. If I close aperture and re-open it, it says I dont have the proper permissions to open this library, checked that, I have read & write. I dont have this problem ising the drive with any other app.
Never had this problem prior to upgrade & if I keep importing without the screen going dark it appears to stay working. Its very strange.
    Anyone?

I am the person who first posted this question yesterday. After reading other postings this morning, I followed the advice to "restore" 3 Mozilla files which had been quarantined by Norton Internet Security yesterday. My Firefox 3.6.6 now works great. Also see:

  • Actualization of imported images

When you have a file with a lot of imported images in it, and you change their folder place, illustrator can't find the images anymore. So it asks where is one of the images, and you just indicate the new folder. but then it keeps on asking the same for all the images and you have to actualize all of them, one by one. is that so, or is there a quicker way? In Freehand, there is an option that makes the program seek for all the images in the same folder and actualizes them automatically.

Here is the dialog you see if you notice in the lower left hand sie it say apply to all.
Check the box before it and before you update the first one and all the files in that folder will update.
I believe if some of the files are put in another folder the dialog appears again and if that box is by chance not check check it again.
If I recall it is similar in results as FH worked but I seem to remember is still at that similar.
    I hope this helps.

  • Missing important image functions - going for Hype

I made a product presentation with a meny system and aniamtions using Edge.
I unfortunatelly found some very important functions were missing.
So I´m going for Hype now, that has got all of these.
So all the job has to be doe again :-(
I didn´t find any feedback area for Edge Animate, so I´m putting it here. The things missing are:
    - Automatic Image optimization (like in Muse)
    - No support for PSD
    - No retina support
    - Can´t replace image, e.g from PNG to JPG (I made it thou by editing the JS-file, but that seems scary)
These are all small matters for Adobe to fix and I suppose they are doing this in the future.
I really like Edge Animate thou, but since it lacks important workflow functions I can´t use it in production.

    Hi,
    Thanks. Yes, that worked.
I actually didn´t find this because in all other Adobe applications, this is done from the Library panel.
I really stress the importance for you to make your/Adobe applications the same. We users love Adobe apps, but are really not liking the unnecessary different solutions in some of them. It´s frustrating and a complete waste of time.
I actually remade the whole animation using (Tumult) Hype.
It´s much easier to work with. Edge seems good to work with Javscript, but with Hype editing Javascripts is not as much necessary since there are pre-made solutions.
You should also look into some things Hype has that is really important:
    - Automatic generation of Retina images
    - Automatic resampling of images
    - Scenes (a very nice way to work)
All in all, Hype is much more efficient to work with.
A thing that I do want in Edge (and Hype) is
    - When using Photoshop originals, it should be possible to set how each image should be exported, i.e as JPG (and setting quality) or PNG.
In the real practical user world, we do only want ONE image to carry around for different purposes, it.e web, animations, videos, print.
And when designing (doing layout) in i.e Edge, I do not always from start know if the image could be in JPG or if it must PNG because it is e.g. overlapping.
The feature of settings export options for Photoshop images, I also would like to see in Muse. As well as Retina support in Muse that i REALLY want.
I like Edge (and really like Muse), but as it is now, selection Hype is an easy choice over Edge.
I hope that you do update Edge to support an extremely good workflow - then I will certainly selected Edge, since I already do pay for it anyway
    Best regards

    Hi, man&mouse-
Please note that there is a way to swap images, though it will try to fit the new image into the old dimensions.
    Select your image element
In the properties panel, look at the Images section
Next to the image name, select the double arrow key
Select your new image (must already be in the Library)

  • How do i backup the list of load images automatically exceptions under Options- Content. I want to transfer to another comp without re-adding one at a time

How do i backup the list of load images automatically exceptions under Options->Content. I want to transfer to another comp without re-adding one at a time. EVen if there is no way to backup, what is the system file for Firefox that stores these, so i can transfer this file or open it in an XML or similar editor to copy them out?

The permissions.sqlite file stores 'allow' and 'block' exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and extensions (software) installation.

  • How to import images in iPhoto?

I use iPhoto importing images from this same computer and from iPhone with iCloud. A problem I've always suffered also before buying iPhone was that I can't import images in iPhoto.
Well, I can drag an image from, for example, the desktop, but if I delete that file on the desktop I won't be able to open that image in iPhoto, even if I've imported it. This is because of I don't know a way to "consolidate the library" in iPhoto (while I usually do it in iTunes), so iPhoto just manages my images, but it doesn't really import them.
When, in iPhoto, I import a photo shooted with iPhone and showed in Photo Stream, that photo is really copied in the library, so in the computer, and I can delete the photo source, in fact if I delete that photo from Photo Stream that photo will remain however in iPhoto, and if I click on the high menu bar (FIle, Show Original ), a Finder window of the folder in which there is the copied photo will be opened. That finder is "hidden" in the stuff of the iPhoto Library (in Images folder of Mac), but it's not simply to go and find any photo in this way (folders and subfolders named with long numbers).
So can I choose what way to use? The good of that second method is that iPhoto manage directly and really its photos because it "has" them, but the bad is the almost impossible way to find photos in that organization library (waster than iTunes media folder, that is clear). The good of the first method is that no automatic copies will be created because iPhoto just manage photos which remain in my folders, but the bad is that iPhoto doesn't manage them direclty, but depending on my folders and my files wherever and however they are, and I can't edit them because I would change the file that is used in iPhoto with an other different version.
I think this is an annoying problem because there is a file with photos (i.e. the iPhoto Library) that contains copies of photos occuping memory while I don't know this is happening, because that copy is not announced, and simultaneously I have those photos of iPhoto free to be changed and removed with the risk of disappearing from the photos of the program.

I can drag an image from, for example, the desktop, but if I delete that file on the desktop I won't be able to open that image in iPhoto, even if I've imported it
That's an indication that you may have your library set up as a referenced library:
Check the Advanced preferences in iPhoto to see if that checkbox is selected or not.  If it isn't checkec, check it and try importing agan.
To make sure all Photo Stream photos are automatically imported into your library set up iPhoto's PS preferences like this:
You should read this User Tip by Terence Devlin which is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto

  • Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original?

I am transitioning to mac and aperture. Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original? I have 10,000 originals and about 2,000 edited images. The originals are named img_XXXX and anything modified img_XXXX_modified. I would like to be able to import the originals and then import the edited versions and assign them to the original masters. Instead of starting from here and going forward with 12,000 masters, some of which are actual originals and others not. Thanks for the help.

Ah, the vestiges of a destructive workflow! Once you "get" Aperture, (specifically Masters and Versions) you are going to love it, as all of this work goes away - the relationship that you seek to retain is automatic in Aperture; it is simply done differently.
The short answer to your question is EVERY image file that is Imported into Aperture will create a new Master and one Version. Assuming that your images are PSD/TIFF/JPEG that you created in something like Photoshop, then each one that your import will be a new Master. You have many options:
-- Stick the originals in one Project(s) and the edited versions in another Project(s).
-- Stick them all in the same Project(s) and "Stack" them.
But here is the real question: Why are you doing all of this work and what are you trying to accomplish? Seems you are trying to preserve old things that don't need preserving in a non-destructive workflow.
So, what is most valuable to you?
-- The original, out of camera files? (That is, the fear/need to revert.)
-- The edited versions? (That is the hours of work that it took you to get there.)
If the former, import the originals and ignore the edited versions. (Either simply leave them out on disk or import them into their own Projects which you ignore.) Use Aperture to recreate the work you had done previously. This will always give you the ability to revert to the original Master and create as many Versions as you want. This is the best idea if your edits are relatively simple crops and exposure adjustments,
If the latter, then import the edited versions and do as above with the originals. This makes more sense if your work uses lots of layers and, perhaps lots of clone tool type corrections.
Of course, you can do a bit of both.
Others may have better suggestions, but you will find it easy to answer your own question when you understand an image based, as opposed to a file based, non-destructive workflow.
    Good luck!

  • Can Aperture make JPEG dupes of imported RAW automatically based on camera?

I have a specific DSLR which I shoot with. I guess most photographers might also have 2 or more DSLRs they shoot with as well. Usually one older than the other as a second body or back up.
When I import RAW images to Aperture 2.x, I would like Aperture (either automatically or triggered by me) to process the importing/imported images to a default JPEG duplicate copy of the RAW. In other words, rather than shooting JPEG+RAW, I would rather just shoot all RAW and when those RAWs enter Aperture, I would like it to make JPEG duplicates. I realize I may loose JPEG quality but this is not essential as if an image selected for use, I will custom process that image and convert to JPEG.
Obviously, I would like those dupes to not be strait dupes of the RAW but, on a basic level, when the conversion happens, also adjust them based on a basic set of color corrections, etc. like the camera might do when making a JPEG in camera. So the conversion is more specific to the RAW coming from the specific camera model.
Can Aperture do this? and how do I set this up? It seems like this ability should be built in or a plug in. It would be camera specific though. A setting for a Nikon D300 would do this "make JPEG dupes of RAW imports" different from a setting for a Sony A700 "make JPEG dupes of RAW imports".
I envision a plug in or free list of default import settings you can save for specific cameras. Something akin to color palettes for design programs based on specific printers. For Epson XYZ printer I can download the Pantone color palettes for that printer and install them in InDesign, etc. Plug in conversion settings for specific DSLR bodies.

I'm not aware of any way to have Aperture generate hi-quality jpegs automatically from the raw file. Maybe there is someway to script it, but I'm not that much of an expert to advise you on that. It will generate a jpeg as the other poster indicated, but it's not a hi-quality file. The jpegs rendered from the embedded raw file are only about 500k, so obviously they are not of the highest quality.
Regarding the metadata, everything is there; camera model, res, aperture, shutter, and a myriad of other things. What's not there is the Nikon specialized stuff like custom picture controls, custom white balance, d-lighting and some others. If you use these features and like the raw converter in NX, you will find it necessary to use either the hi-quality jpegs from the camera (assuming you create them when you shoot) or have NX or View render and save jpegs or Tiffs from the Nikon NEF's. I've decided to shoot Raw+JPEG, import to Aperture using referenced libraries, make a new master from the JPEG and this separates the JPEG from the NEF in Aperture allowing you to see and use either. If the JPEGS are satisfactory, use them. If not, you have options; tweak the NEF in Aperture, show the NEF in finder, and drop into NX and tweak the raw with Nikon's proprietary camera controls and raw features then save out as Tiff or JPEG and drop back into Aperture. If you like Aperture's raw renderer enough to forego Nikon's picture controls, custom white balance, d-lighting etc..., you can skip the whole Nikon thing and just import the raw files. Come up with some custom settings and stamp the lot. Batch export the project to jpeg and drop them back into Aperture when finished. I think it's best to just let the camera create the RAW-JPEG. If you get good files or just need minor tweak, fix-lift and stamp and you're done. If not you have lots of options. JMO
