Updating iOS: Errors 3014 and -1

I'm trying to update the iOS on my iPhone 4 and got error 3014. I took off the security firewall, made sure the iTunes software was up to date, made sure the windows firewall was off, ran the iTunes network diagnostics (showing green lights for everything) and still I get the error (changed to -1). Why does Apple make everything so torturous? Even finding help on iTunes is made difficult by hiding the menu bar (revealed by that easy to guess key combination Ctrl-b). At the very least, an operating system update should restore the old OS in the event of failure, but Apple in their wisdom leaves you stranded with a dead iPhone and no obvious options to fix the problem. Help please!

Error 3014

  • Updating to iOS 8, error 3014 and 27?

I've had iOS 6 on my iPad 2 for ages, as I procrastinated updating. Now apps need me to have iOS 7, so I have to update. I've plugged the iPad into my laptop, which runs Windows 8, and have been trying to update, but I keep getting error codes 3014 and 27 alternately, as well as it occasionally telling me the iPad cannot be found.
After researching it online I gather it may be something to do with the firewalls of my security software, so I've uninstalled McAfee now, but am still getting the error codes.
    Any help?

Have you tried switching cables and USB ports? Did you restart the computer and the iPad? Maybe even a reinstall of iTunes would help.
You do realize that you can download the update over the air using WiFi in Settings>General>Software Update, correct?

  • After trying to upgrade, I got the error 3014 and now I can't get the iPad to do anything. It continually shows the "plug in to iTunes" icon.  How do I get past this problem?

Can't restore, can't power off, and pc can't detect iPad.  Error code 3014 when trying to upgrade.  Can't even restore to original settings. Opened Hosts files and I did not see 127....gs.apple.com, or other suggested files.  Pls help.

Did you see the very end of this about not having enough space left on your computer specific to therror code 3014?
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3002: If you experience this error while updating an iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPhone 3G, please use the standard update or restore process in iTunes (click Update or Restore).
Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

  • TS3694 why do i keep getting error 3014 and why is this website never easy to find an answer ?

i dont understand how i always click on an error that i have and it brings me to an option wich has no relevance to my problem

To be honest, Google works much better.
With that being said, error 3014 pops up when iTunes cannot connect to the iOS upgrade servers.  Typically this happens when the servers are either over loaded (similar to what happens during a hacker DOS attack), your local hosts file points to another server (which happens when an iOS device is or has been jail broken), when the servers are off-line, or when you do not have access to the internet.

  • ITunes Network Diags pass, but Restore fails with Error 3014 and recommended solutions risky and unhelpful

We've had routine OS updates fail recently (weeks apart)
on both an iPad mini and a 5th Gen iPod. The devices ended up in recovery mode
and we had to Restore them to factory defaults.
That is bad enough, but it gets worse...
We started iTunes, plugged in the bricked device, and were
prompted to do a Restore. Clicked OK. It ran for a while, completed the
extraction step, and the failed with unknown error 3014.
We searched support, and there is plenty written about
unknown error 3014 when doing a Restore. Most point to network connectivity
issues and things like blocked ports or conflicting security software. Sure, I
can see how those could cause problems that may be outside Apple’s control
(although doing everything over HTTPS would eliminate the issue.)
BUT, iTunes has built in network diagnostics (Help ->
Run Diagnostics… -> Network connectivity tests). Shouldn’t these tell me if
there is a connectivity problem with iTunes? The support articles all seem to
tell you to manually dive into all kinds of low level  things such as hosts files.
iTunes network diagnostics all passed, but out of
desperation, we still tried shutting off our anti-virus (Avast) and firewall
(Comodo), connecting directly to the internet without our router blocking or
filtering anything, editing the hosts file, trying a different PC, etc. as
instructed. It was all a wild goose chase – nothing helped, and Apple’s
instructions exposed us to security risks (attaching directly to the Internet
with no router, firewall or ant-virus software!)
    I can’t be 100% sure because I still had our anti-virus
SW and firewall turned off, but what seemed to finally work was to just try
dozens of times until iTunes and Apple’s servers finally worked!
After dozens of tries on two PCs over two days, the last
thing I did was to turn off our anti-virus and firewall again, started iTunes,
plugged in the device, attempted a Restore when prompted, retried when it
failed. Then closed and reopened iTunes while leaving the device attached, and
Restored when prompted. That one time, we got lucky and it worked. I’m sure
many people really have blocked ports, etc. but I can’t see how that could explain
our problems. Hopefully this posting will help someone.
    ** Apple – If you’re reading this ** Please (1) find out
why we and others in the forums report persistent 3014 errors that seem to
magically go away if you retry often enough over a long enough period of time,
and (2) make sure the iTunes network diagnostics are truly thorough, and then
direct customers to them rather than making them dig through port mapping
settings and hosts files. Thanks for your consideration.

  • Leave update IOS 6.1 and Restore to IOS 6.0.1

    Hi All,
Last week i have updated my Iphone 5 to IOS 6.1
Just did the update by wifi and not with the USB cable plugged in.
At first sight it looks allright.
After a few days it looks, that my Battery life is shorter now!
Yesterday i wanted to sync my photo's from the Iphone 5 to my Imac.
    unfortunately this was not possible!
No reaction at all between two devices, even with the USB connection cable there was no reaction!
Only Itunes saw my Iphone by Wifi,
there was only one way to sync my photo's, from my imac to my Iphone, just the opposit way.
The same issues i had on a Windows 7 prof laptop.
At this moment, no fysic hardware connection is possible between any devices.
So is there anyway to leave IOS 6.1 and get back to IOS 6.0.1 ?????
is there any other way to get my hardware connection back (by USB cable) ???
Is there any information from Apple, when they fixed this BUG.
At this moment, I regret this update!
    greetings René

    Strange.....
I went to an Icentre, they put my iphone5 to a lightning (usb) cable and it connected immediately.
so i went back home, tried my own cable, first it looks that the imac didn't recognized it,
i was mention to put out the usb cable and did pull a little on the connector back of the imac.
    Perhaps the Iphone woke up
    so everything looks allright now
okay, it's a bit weird, but i'm happy it works again
so i will solve this item
