Updating iPhone 3Gs to 6.1 and stuck on iTunes

I was updating my iPhone 3Gs for OS 6.1 and all okay until iTunes request I connect phone to my Mac for updating. But waning says my iTunes (and iPhoto) will be erased. Is this true? Can I override it, since I don't want either erased my my iPhone? Much thanks, Ivan

Im sorry to hear that. You need to restore like brad said.
But you can restore from a latest backup from itunes after restore. I hope you had a recent backup made.

Hi, I am facing a problem, the scenarios as i connect my iphone using my MBP, than it alert me with updating IOS, from my current version IOS 6 to IOS 6.1.2. well first make sure that when you click on the name of your iphone on the left hand side of itunes that you go to the app and music tab and check mark the sync apps and sync music. then try clicking apply in the bottom right hand corner. then if not try doing it again after going to prefrences in the top menu and going to devices tab and click reset sync history if that doesnt work with music try and drop and drag to the name of your iphone, lastly if that doesnt work you can try restoring from a backup from before you updated. it will keep the new software but put everything that was on your phone when you created the backup back onto your phone.

If your phone is in recovery mode, all data are gone. Connect the phone to iTunes on your computer and restore.

What do you mean how can you unlock it? If it was truly "sim-free" it would not have locked when you updated.
ONLY the carreir the phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Contact them if you haven't managed to brick it entirely now.

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.

don't ask me why this worked, but it did for me last night. In iTunes, where your device shows up on the left side, I double clicked on it. It then allows you to change the name like you can for changing file/folder names. I changed 1 letter on the name of the ipod and hit enter. I then right clicked on the new ipod name and chose restore from backup. My choices for backup was the original name of the ipod only and not the name i had just changed it to. I told it to go ahead and backup from the old name figuring I would get the same results, but not the case. It restored it with all app, music and pictures with one exception...all of the settings, email setup and information within the apps was lost. Atleast that an easier fix than starting all over. Hope this will work for you guys too with the same issue.

Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
Please can anybody help.

If your restore is failing, there could be MANY issues... You may need to restore the phone back to "new phone" during the restore... PAY ATTENTION HERE... You will lose ALL contacts, photos, videos, voice memos, etc... But you will be able to re-add your apps< and music through itunes. that is very last resort though. if that doesnt work, I would look into updateing your phone. Personally I wouldn't get the 5, just because I dont need the additonal size screen... I have the 4S and LOVE it!! but, do some research, and see what you can find on the matter. But it sounds like your headed down hill fast with that phone... May be best just to upgrade and save yourself the frustration...

When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup.

well, first check whether you're connected to the blackberry network...
how can I check whether myself connected to blackberry?
Check within the network bars on the phone whether it is showing you 3G, EDGE or GPRS in capital letters...!!
If not give a hard-reset to the phone (remove the battery put it back once)...
And if it shows in caps letters then try requesting for services again... how? on the phone desktop > within the search bar > type "Host Routing Table".... search results shows you as "options"... select that & select host routing table... afterwards, hit the blackberry menu button > select register...
