Updating Iphone Software to 2.0
When I attempted to upgrade my phone's software I was directed to first update my ITune software which I was able to complete with quite a bit of difficulty. I then had to make several attempts before I could update the phone's software. The update included an automatic backup of the phone's contents (Contacts, Notes, Mail Accounts, etc.)When the update of the phone was completed, none of the so-called backup data was restored although Itunes indicated that a restoration was underway.I lost all of the information that was on my phone when I started the updates. I was only able to recover my contacts thanks to Microsoft Outlook. Is the so-called backup still available?

First did a full back up of iphone using iTunes
Put iphone into Recovery Mode ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 ). Erases all user data and settings!
Disconnected USB cable from iphone
Powered off iphone by holding down Sleep/Off button until slider appeared, slid to off, waited until screen dark
Pressed and kept holding Home button while plugging cable back into phone
I still saw the graphic on the iphone that said to plug into iTunes, so I unplugged and re-plugged cable. (I may have released the Home button too soon)
Recovery Mode alert came up in iTunes.
Followed all iTunes prompts to restore phone - it downloaded and sucessfully installed iOS 5.0.1
iphone did not appear in iTunes due to missing pairing file (that made me nervous)
iphone was now at factory settings. I followed prompts on iphone screen to start reactivation process
Eventually the iphone asked if I wanted to restore from a back-up (whew!)
A window opened in iTunes and I was able to select my previous back-up file for the restore
A full restore from back-up then occured
I also allowed a carrier settings update to occur when prompted (not sure that happens in all cases)
When the restore was done I had to re-enter some passwords, but everything was there
iOS is now 5.0.1 (9A406). The whole process took about an hour. -
I've downloaded the ios7 software to my iphone but it didn't let me install it over air so I connected my iphone to itunes and updated it .. it's now stuck half way through saying 'updating iphone software' it's been like that for 40 mins .. should I be worried?
I imagine a ton of people are attempting to activate after the update, and the server is getting overloaded. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.

ITunes not recognising network connectio to update iPhone software
Installed new iTunes on iMac. Trying to update iPhone software. iTunes says network connection could not be established. All other network connections are working fine.
Correct, and read the other 100 posts about this today. You and the owners of a couple of other million i-devices are all trying to update at the same time and you're encountering a traffic jam.
Some have said changing DNS servers helped, or maybe it is snake oil.

attempting to update iphone software via pc. itunes engaged. back up does not appear to have occurred. device now locked. requesting restore action. anyway to save photos in this status? or restore after?
it was just the biggest mistake of today, not my life :P
restoration steps i took were:
1. connect the dead phone to another pc with itunes turned on
2. follow the notifications on that itunes
3. restore the phone
4. disconnect the phone after the restoration without clicking any buttons of that itunes
5. connect the phone to my own pc
6. my own pc can recognize the phone and itunes will try to restore the backup of my phone
7. restore from the backup on my pc
8. sync everything (tick all the apps in itunes manually since there is no such button to select all) and reorganize all the apps
9. after ca. 25 min, the phone is back to the previous sw version -
Can anyone let me know what to do - I am connected to the Internet but iTunes is telling me there is no connection when I try to update iPhone software? Thanks
If you are using a Windows based computer, could be security software and or the firewall preventing the update process.

Having problems updating iphone software to version 5.0
I currently have version 4.3.1 and finally decided to update iphone software to version 5.0. It goes through the 6 minute process, but then I get the error message: "There was a probem downloading the software for the IPhone -----. The network connection ttimed out. Make sure your network setting are correct and your network connection is active or try again later."
I've tried several times and keep getting the same message. My network connection is active and I've just the firewall and made sure it allows itunes updates.
Please help! Any other suggestions? When answering please be very specific - I'm really clueless with the computer.

Plug in, click update software, and click download ONLY.
Let the ipsw file download complete,... then click update.
This way is much better. If you keep having error message, its either your internet connection is inconsistent or Apple's server is inconsistent... usually more likely the former. -
Firmware 3.1 update sitting at "Updating iPhone Software" for about an hour
I am running on 10.6 OS X, iTunes 9, my phone backed up successfully, but it's sitting at the Updating iPhone Software for nearly an hour now. It is at around 75% on that step and looks like its only 10% on the phone itself.
Here is a list of actions logged in the consols

On at least 2 occasions, when I updated Iphone software and synced with MacBook, my newest calendar events were deleted. The information in Ical and on IPhone reverted to an older version of events instead of defaulting to the new information. I know of at least 1 other person who experienced this; is this a common occurrence? What is the reason for it and the remedy? How do I prevent this from happening in the future?
When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

I have the exact same issue on my iPhone 4S and I am now restoring, hopefully successfully and without losing everything. I sure hope iCloud actually works for all of my apps!!! -
i am updating my iPhone4s with the most recent OS software update and its been almost 3 hrs now and it has not completed its update. It is still " verifying updated iPhone software. How long does it take for the update to be completed. Thanks
Well the term "hotlined" I have never heard before. In any case many states (like NY) just passed regulatory powers to the State Public Service Commission of which it may be called something different in your state. You could file a complaint with them. Or file a complaint with your state attorney generals office, they also take on wireless providers.
The problem here is the staff you speak to are poorly trained, in days gone by it took one call to them and they pulled up your account and see the error and had the authority to remove any errors. They did not remove legitimate account actions, but used their heads instead of putting a customer off or worse lying to the customer.
Its a shame you have to go through what you going through.

"Verifying updated iPhone software" message for 4 hours now, please help!
I'm trying to update to 1.1.1 for 4 hours now, and after downloading and extracting the "Verifying updated iPhone software . . ." message doesn't disappear, nor does it advance or anything.
my phone has never been hacked in any way nor have there been any 3rd party things installed. I signed up as a new at&t customer on day 2 of the iPhone release and never had any trouble till now.
I'm currently overseas and won't be back for the next month. so I've been using me iPhone as an iPod and mail device (wherever I have wireless access) since at&t isn't working here.
could that be why it is not verifying the software and "stuck" in this mode for more than 4 hours now?
I haven't gotten any of the error messages that are mentioned in the other threads, but I'm afraid to disconnect it, as I'm not sure what's going to happen.
Please help!never mind. I disconnected it, had to restore it to factory settings, but it all came back and now it's working with the new udpate!

Iphone 3gs - os 4.0.1 'Updating iPhone Softwar' Freeze

I'm in the process of updating the software on my iPhone (3GS) to v 4.0.1.
plugged it in...all ok. Backed up Iphone...all ok. BUT, now it is just sitting there with the status bar not moving at all.
iTunes as an application is fine (when i attempt a force quit it tells me that is is responding fine).
I have no idea what to do now. Its been going for at least an hour with no movement.
Shall i Leave it?

Having sat with my status bar not moving for a good three hours and with itunes still working ok i tried a reboot. Shut everything down changed the usb cable ( and port) and rebooted.
This time, i tunes tells me that i needed to restore my iphone as it was in repair or rebuild mode ( sorry i cant remember, it was very late at this point) .
I proceded to do this...After another 10/15 mins or so of just sitting on a status bar that had moved about 1cm I receive a warning box telling me that it cant restore the iphone due to a 1611 error!!!
Having had the usb & itunes logo displayed on the iphone, i now just have a black screen with the silver apple logo and a stationary status bar...
I've done a bit of internet searching/research but cant find any answers....
Any thoughts?

I can't turn off session restore.
No matter what setting i have set in the Options window, when i exit and then start a new session in FF the previous one always pops up regardless of the setting. All i want is my homepage to pop up like normal. Its done this for about 2 weeks or so.
