Updating iphone version
My wife and I use one laptop that has her her itunes library on it. I do not have a separate library. I would like to update my iphone to the newest version. When I connect to the laptop, it warns that I must backup my songs or risk losing them. How do I do it? Can I set up another library?
If you can only make emergency calls, the phone needs to be reactivated in iTunes.

Can't update iphone version/backup bc "HD full"
I haven't been able to update my iphone to new software version as an error message keeps displaying saying that hard drive is full and can't contain backup memory quota necessary. Since that came up I bought an external 500 GB hard drive that is only being used for this (i also changed destination drive under Prefs, then media folder) and iTunes will still not complete backup or update my version with same error message. Help please! Thanks!
Nevermind...I just took all the apps and music off my iphone and it updated real quick. Pain in the butt but it worked.

I have itunes 8.0 on my pc and 2.o on my iphone. I have tried repeatedly to update my iphone to the most current verison - now 3.0 I always get an error message that I am not connected to the internet when in fact I am Help!!
Well then, you need to go out and download the firmware and then point iTunes to it. Google download iPhone firmware and the first website will have all the firmware you need. I don't see if you are using the iPhone or the iPhone 3G, and this is very important when downloading the firmware. Once you are on that website you will want the firmware at the very bottom that starts out with 2.2.1 and select either the 3G or 2G depending on what iPhone you have. Once you have this downloaded, open up iTunes and make sure you sync and do a manual backup of your iPhone (right click on the iPhone icon and select backup). Once that is done you'll be ready to install your new firmware.
If you are using a Windows machine:
-Hold down shift when you click the restore button and then browse to where you saved the iPhone firmware. It will restore the firmware and update to 2.2.1 (latest version). After the restore make sure to restore your iPhone from backup and sync it and you'll be good to go.
If you are using a Mac:
-By default compressed files that are downloaded by Safari will be unzipped and the original compressed file with automatically be put in the trash. You can deleted the unzipped files and then go into the trash can and the firmware file should be there. You will need to remove the .zip at the end of the file so that ipsw is the extension (you can either hit enter when the file is highlighted or right click and go to get info and change it). Then move the file to the desktop or wherever you want it.
-Now open iTunes, go to the iPhone tab, hold down the option key and browse to where you moved the iPhone firmware file. After the restore is done restore your backup and you're ready to go.
Now this only puts a bandaid on the iTunes problem and allows you to update your iPhone to the newest firmware. You should call Apple and have them help you with the iTunes problem. -
IPhone remote app no longer working after iPhone update to version 4.2.1
I have 4 apple TV generation 3 devices. I have had these (and some older Apple TV 2 devices) for a number of years.
I have home sharing enabled on all the TV devices and use the iPhone remote app or the iPad remote app to control them.
After the update to version 4.2.1 my iPhone (and my wifes) can no longer see any of the apple TV devices and I get the message
"Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account $my account"
Home sharing is turned on on the iPhone devices (I have disabled it and re-enabled it and re-signed in to prove this as well as re-downloading the remote app direct from the app store)
Home sharing is enabled on all the Apple TV devices
I know this is working as the iPads can still see the Apple TV devices, but the iPhone 5s's both myself and my wife have cannot see them.
This has worked fine for years but after the 4.2.1 update the iPhone is unable to interact at all as if home sharing is not enabled.
I've one through the trouble shooting guides on the support pages but they don't do anything, and I didn't expect them to as I know home sharing is setup just fine as a.) it was working b.) the iPads are still working with the apple TV's

Very likely. Hard to believe the carrier in Mexico doesn't have a micro-SIM card available.
Or somehow the Chinese carrier found out and locked it?

What can I do? Get a new SIM and see if it works again?
Get a micro-SIM from the carrier in Mexico that you don't have to manually cut down. If that carrier doesn't provide one, switch to another carrier that is not so low-budget. -
I now have a useless $700 phone. Updated iTunes to latest version (and can't get it to revert back to an earlier version), updated iPhone (iPhone5) to iOS 7 and now it won't talk to iTunes, nor will it connect to my WiFi. What should I try now?
If it won't talk at all to iTunes, you can hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds, it will power off, this is ok, then let go of the power button while holding the home button until iTunes sees it as a device in recovery mode. You can try to reinstall iOS7 and then restore.

As you can see, battery issues have been common since the first iphone, frequently reported after an upgrade, but not always. So to blame a specific version doesn't describe the problem sufficiently to find a resolution. -

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes. -
I had my iphone 4 locked to vodafone uk carrier. I connected the phone to itunes on my pc and tried to update the version to ios 6 through itunes. But it has been locked and asks for sim of previous carrier. how can i return to previous state?
You cannot return to previous state. The update re-locked the iPhone
to the original carrier. You must contact the original carrier to see if
they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Be advised that if your iPhone had previously been hacked/modified/
jailbroken to work with other than original carrier, it may be impossible
for the original carrier to unlock it properly. -

I'v done update IOS version 6.0 in my Iphone 4S, but now i can not activate Wi Fi icon clicking, it is passive.
Previously was installet IOS version 5.1.1.
What should i do?Try these:
1)
Double tap the home button to bring up active apps at the bottom of your screen.
Tap and hold one of those apps until you get a red circle with white minus sign in it at top left.
Tap the red circle in every app on the bottom. This closes active apps.
Shut down the phone and leave it off for a couple of minutes.
Turn phone on.
2)
Turn on Airplane Mode
Power down
Leave phone off for 10 minutes
Power up
Turn Airplane Mode off
