Updating iphoto for maverick

How to update iphoto
I recently updated my Imac to maverick and for my iphoto to work it has to be upgraded to the latest  version,
however when I try to update iphoto, there is a message that says that for performing this operation I have to enter
the ID that was used when it was purchased and does nor allow me to use my current and valid appstore ID.
Since iphoto came originally with my new computer I don´t know what ID was used and it doesn´t even allow me to
purchase the new version.
Can someone help me solve this problem ?

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
followed by Enter.
launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
3 - try again.

  • How to download iPhoto for Mavericks?

After a clean install of OS X 10.9 Mavericks on my Mac Mini, I went to the Mac App Store to download iPhoto. It says I can't, because iPhoto 9.6 requires OS X 10.10. Yosemite.
Upgrading to Yosemite is not an option.
Fine, and how do I get iPhoto for Mavericks now?
    Thanks for any hint!

After a clean install of OS X 10.9 Mavericks on my Mac Mini,
Which version did you have previously? The same system version?
Did you previously have iPhoto '11 installed on your Mini with Mavericks?  Then restore iPhoto from your backup you made before you wiped the drive.

  • Can't update iPhoto after mavericks update

    Hi,
I recently updated my iMac with the mavericks OSX update - but now I cannot update iphoto. the app store shows that is knows an update is available, but whenever I try and update - the app store asks me for a password for my apple ID - but  nothing ever happens. the spinner by the username just keeps going around and around. I have reset the password as well via the apple support pages (iforgot) but it makes no difference. I have another apple ID which I've used since for purchases (and on another mac) which doesn't have any problems at all however the app store update doesn't allow me to change the apple ID.. Any suggestions on how to get this done?
not sure if this is actually an iphoto issue or an app store issue? thanks

Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

  • I need help updating iphoto after Mavericks

So I downloaded Mavericks, and lost iphoto ... nothing in this world comes easy, right?  I've called and emailed support at Apple, and got nothing but a stock response "Sign into your account, go to the app store, and update your apps!"  Yeah, NO KIDDING.  That was the first thing I did...and when I do, I get the following error message:
"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
I've tried this while signed in with the only two apple IDs I know of, and got the same message.  As per my iTunes Store/Mac App Store Advisor Julie Ann's request, I replied to her email telling her it didn't work, and now I am awaiting further instruction...it's been 5 days.
The only info I've been able to get out of customer service at Apple is that I will likely have to buy the updated iphoto ... At this point, I am over the injustice that I have to pay for this app again, I just want access to my files.  I will buy the stupid thing if they really make me.  In fact, I've already tried, but I can't figure out how!  When I go to the app store, the only option presented is to "update."  I've thought about uninstalling iphoto and buying it again, but I don't want to risk losing the existing files on my comp.  I know my pictures are still there because the files is rather large.
Anyway, can anyone offer a real solution to this problem?  I guess I can trek to the nearest Apple store, but that requires me to take a ride into the city and wait in line ... ain't nobody got time for that!  PLEASE HELP I NEED MY FILES.

I don't remember exactly what it had on it (snow leopard?) when I got it 5 years ago.  Last year I had the hardrive serviced and installed the lastest (at the time) OSX...I believe it was Mountain Lion.  After that I guess I must have accepted the iLife apps, since I've been using them with no problem.  The only app I have trouble with after the Mavericks upgrade is iphoto.
Why would I do this without backup?  I don't know, I like to live on the edge?  That's not really the point now, is it?  Truth is, everything I need is backed up, except this one file that I happen to need, that I put in iphoto the day before the upgrade.  The only reason I was interested in this stupid upgrade is because I was trying to buy Numbers, and it wouldn't let me without the latest OS.  Honestly, I find it to be completely useless and wish I never did it.
Point is, why am I having this issue with iphoto exclusively?  Can you offer any advice?

  • My MacBook Pro has an update available for Maverick I think it was

My MacBook Pro had an update available for the Maverick and I did not hit the update because kept erroring out. I was updating other things and decided to hit it too and that time finally updated. Then right after the laptop looked for updates and did another one. It asked to install whatever the upstate on the OS or X was and then took 50 minutes to install it then more time to complete it. When computer finally came back on it asked for my apple ID for iCloud. I typed it in several times correct fly but it would not take it and finally chose forgot. It went to a new blank box with the asterisk wheel winding around and choice of continue highlighted below next to un highlighted back.  Now I am frozen here and can't do anything with laptop. Will not allow me to highlight and choose back. Can't get it to continue. Tried esc. Tried force close and tells me I must quit setup assistant first. Can't get top controls to show up. Finally got a second desktop background to come up and pushed F 3 and tried to use buttons below and above and will pull-up things like Safari but can't use it and can't pull up the set up assistant this way to choose quit either. So I am just stuck.  Help please, anyone. How do I get use of my laptop again??
I don't really know if it is maverick or what number OS it is. Just know had picture of mountain lion.

That sounds like you have installed Mavericks over the top of Mountain Lion?
Do you know what version of the OS was on the laptop before you started?
Do you have any backups from before the 'update', either a Time Machine disk or a full copy (a.k.a. bootable clone)?
Mavericks is not a simple update, despite Apple's constant nagging to 'update' to it. It's possible that the Mavericks installer has overwritten the old OS, but I suspect it may simply need you to create a user account with the setup assistant. It's a very good idea to make a full backup before applying any major OS upgrade.
I would reboot, fill out the details for setup assistant and when it is time to enter the user details enter a new account name (this will be your admin account). The assistant should then create a user account that you can login with to look at the contents of the Mac's disk.
Then you should open the /Users folder (Use 'Finder menu > Go > Go to folder…' to open /Users) & see if the old users home folders are still intact. You may also want to see if any third party Applications are still installed.
If the old data is intact, and the account isn't listed in 'System Preferences > Users & groups' it can be recreated, provided you make sure to use the same 'shortname' as the Users home folder.
If the data is gone, I'm afraid it's possible that it is lost, I can't see this being likley because the 10.9 installer will not delete user data without some stern warnings & advanced user interaction.
An alternative would be to connect this Mac to another Mac & look at the disk to see if the data is still there before you create the user acount. Do you have access to another Mac? You may be able to use Thunderbolt or Firewire to see this Mac's disk on another working Mac.

  • Update iPhoto for iCloud?!

    hey there,
2 days ago i bought my new imac. and im pretty familiar with the system, but i cant get this together:
i want to update my iphoto for the icloud stuff. and when i go to the app store trying to update iphoto (it shows the available update) it wants me to actually BUY iphoto before i can update it. well i do think that about 2000 euro for the new imac including ilife, is enough for apple to give me an iphoto update which is actually free.
even when i download the update manually from the apple support page it redirects me to the appstore...
i would appreciate a solution to this problem.
    thanks in advance.

    thanks for the quick answer.
well it wont find any updates. its all up to date.
is it normal that ilife wont show up in the list of installed software for System Preferences > Software Update?
i took the way via icloud system preference telling me that an update is neccessary, then i went into the app store. seeing the update clicking on it the app store app tells me to "log in with the account i bought this product with."

  • Cant update Pages for Mavericks?

    Hi all,
I downloaded Mavericks.  Happy with it.  I went to download the new update to Pages and it says that it is connected to another apple id than the one that I always use.  I can update Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto, etc. but for some reason that one keeps requesting me to sign in under another apple id.  I do have another apple id but when I sign in under it and try to update Pages, in the window for verifying my password to begin the download it pops right back to the other ID.
    Help?

Don't blame Mavericks for the Pages v5.0 limitations. As for me, I did a Mavericks upgrade last night, and it left my Pages v4.3 functional.
Before I installed Mavericks, I exported all .pages files to .doc. In some cases, to .pdf as well. Had the Mavericks install impacted Pages v4.3, I was now prepared to use LibreOffice with the .doc files, rather than Pages 5.
The features missing from Pages 5 have been exhaustively discussed in another thread. It is either a case of developer disconnect with real-word DTP, or they had to tear the house down to rebuild it. In the latter case, future updates to Pages 5 will restore or enhance missing functionality. Just don't hold your breath though.
I am required to use Office for Mac 2011 at work. I have been using MS Word since it was a DOS product, and I still don't like it. But after almost 25 years, and without any praise for the ribbon bar, it does produce decent output. An alternative, though not as visually polished, is the freely available LibreOffice Suite. Not only will it read and write both .doc/.docx files, and has a single button PDF creation; it also has the ability to do standalone and inline PDF forms. Worth a look, before spending $$$ on Office for Mac 2011.

  • IPhoto for Mavericks?

After installing Mavericks on my Mac, I have lost IPhoto and IMovie. Can those applications be reinsatalled without having to purchase them from the store? I did not use time machine for backup, but rather stored some of my data (and not ILife apps). Thanks!

What exactly did you do?  Upgrading the OS does not erase anything
You can always reinstall any application from the original source

  • How do I update iphoto for icloud?

    Hello
I am trying to get iphoto to work on my icloud account.
    I currently have iphoto version 8.1.2 (424).
I have Mac OS 10.7.4. I updated my Mac Book Pro to Lion a few months ago.
Please would someone explain in clear, simple steps exactly what I do to keep the photos I currently have on my mac, but to get icloud functioning so I can see them on my iphone too. If this is successful then I will purchase an ipad to repeat the process.
    Thanks,
    Sister Sage

    Sister Sage,
to use iCloud with iPhoto you need to upgrade to iPhoto 9.3.x.
the upgrade from iPhoto 8.x to 9.x is not free; you will have to buy iPhoto again from the AppStore. Currently the AppStore only offers offers iPhoto 9.4, and that requires MacOS X 10.7.5 or 10.8.2 or later. So you probably need to update your MacOS first, to be able to buy the latest iPhoto version.
But you do not need iCloud to see your pictures on your Phone. Have you tried to enable syncing of Photos, when you sync your iPhone with your Mac using iTunes?
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Can't update iPhoto for free.

I have a legal copy of iPhoto but the App Store, via the update command, wants to charge me.  The legal copy may have come from an earlier Macbook  computer backup because that is how I transferred all files and programs to the MB Pro when I got it.  iPhoto '09, ver 8.1.2
I also own a MacBook Air with a later version of iPhoto on it (came with the computer).

Updates (same first digit of the version number) are free
Upgrades like iPhoto '09 to iPhoto '11 are purchases
You have to own a version of iphoto '11 and have it installed on your system to have a free update to iPhoto '11 version 9.5

  • After downloading Maverick, my Time Machine is not working with My WD Passport, although I updated it for Maverick. Any ideas?

The Passport backs up on its own but I can not use it with Time machine as I did before. Also, how can I access the old backups on time machine with Maverick? There is a X through some of the old Appliances.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes.) You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard."
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamp of the last "Starting" message that corresponds to the beginning of an an abnormal backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showing, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.

  • After updating to Mavericks from Snow Leopard, everything works except iPhoto. If I buy the current version of iPhoto for $15, will it work on Mavericks?

After updating to Mavericks from Snow Leopard, everything works BUT all my photos were lost. If I buy the current version of iPhoto for $15, will it run on Mavericks?

If you have iPhoto from iLife '11, then I would first install it on your computer. In that way you would be able to get the new iPhoto free since you are running Mavericks.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks I cannot update iPhoto and iMovie. Why?

Just got my first Mac, an iMac. I upgraded to Maverick and once done I find there are updates available for iPhoto and iMovie. First I have tried to register "accept" the two apps. Nothing happens. Then I try to update them and get the answer that these apps was installed with another Apple ID. The thing is that I don't have any other Apple ID and noone else has touched my iMac. I have tried to reinstall Maverick three times now but end up with the same result. Anyone who has any clue or have experienced the same problem?

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Password tab.
Make sure you see the correct Apple ID.
    If not, click Change.
Make sure you are logged into your admin account before updating apps.
Reinstalling Mavericks requires using OS X Recovery  but there's no reason to reinstall Mavericks just to update your apps.
