Updating IPhoto on Macbook Pro. Wont update.

I am having troubles updating Iphoto on my Macbook Pro. When I go to download, it tells me to log in to the apple id that was used to purchase. As far as I know, I have only ever used one apple id.....perhaps I am wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.appstore folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store, try updating iPhoto. I think the most recent version is 9.2.1
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
If you are running Lion v10.7 >  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
BTW.. when you post for help, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed. Thanks !

Whenever I try to do the software update and restart my computer it will just go back to its desktop and nothing gets updated.  My internet connection is fine and my laptop is plugged to the outlet.

Same thing happens to me i try to update from os x 10.8.4 to os x 10.8.5 and the computer restarts and i still have os x 10.8.4.

  • MacBook Pro firmware update after erase & install

    Hi,
I just tried to update from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 with software update last night and got the error message a lot of people have been experiencing, then, got stuck at the apple logo with the never-ending spinning wheel... well... tried repairing disk, permissions, everything, but didn't work...
Now I reinstalled OS X with the dvd that came with my pro (10.4.6) and I noticed that when I run softwarte update, a specific MacBook Pro firmware update and some battery update didn't show up, does that mean I already have it? because it is firmware, the installation of OS X didn't erase it?
And to all those out there stuck at the boot screen, I'm trying the manual combo update (downloading from apple.com) and will tell if this works (thank god I backed up everything!)

    Good Morning,
To answer your firmware question, yes. Once applied a firmware update is burned into the chip on the device being updated and is not subject to being removed with an operating system, the only way to change that firmware is to update it with something else.
You should be fine that they aren't showing up because, as you said, you already have them. 

  • Apple MacBook/Pro Software Update 1.0?

On versiontracker.com, there is an update called Apple MacBook/Pro Software Update 1.0. The desciption says:
"This update enables file system journaling on MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook computers. Some MacBook and MacBook Pro systems were shipped with file system journaling turned off. Journaling is recommended on all Mac computers as a preventative measure against file corruption."
It is recommended for Mid 2007 MacBooks
I ran the Software Updater on my MacBook which I bought in June and this update did not come up as needed. Has anyone else installed this? If it does not come up in the Updater, does that mean I don't need it?
    Thom

Thom you might try going to Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility->click on the name of your HD (probably something like "Macintosh HD" unless you renamed it) in the left had corner and look at the bottom of the window under "Format:" It should read "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" If that's the case then you probably don't need to worry about it.

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

  • I just ran the updates for my MacBook Pro and now my iphoto will not open.  It says "You can't use this version of the application "iphoto" with this version of os x.  You have "iphoto 9.2.3

I just ran my updates for my MacBook Pro and now my iphoto won't open. I get a pop up that say's You can't use this version of the applicaton IPhoto with this version of os x.  You have iphoto 9.2.3.

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • Macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart.

macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart

Sorry I said sorta wrong. I can shut down and I can update to the point of restart but it just sat for 45 minutes after an update. It goes through the update and to restart then the bars chase each other in a circle and it never restarts. So I hit the power button and go through normal reboot but loosing the update in the process. It does not matter how long I wait for a natural reboot after an update or click to restart it will chase the little bar in circles all day literally and never reboot.

  • I keep getting drop down messages about updates for my MacBook Pro.  These have to do with iphoto, updates that I could care less about.  How do I keep these from popping up, with out taking the update.  The drop down is very frustrating.

I keep getting drop down reminders about updates to my MacBook Pro.  The up dates concern digital camera and iphoto, none of which I want.  Is their a way to keep these intermittent drop downs from appearing, or do I have to contend with this interruption until I down load the update?

Where are the drop down reminders appearing? All I get is a number showing up on the App Store dock icon.
You are probably going to have to either update the software or remove it from your computer.

  • I installed an software Update on my MacBook Pro and after that my laptop wont reboot passed the gray screen?

After installing a software update on my Macbook Pro, it would not reboot passed the gray screen and then would shut down.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is damaged and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to a Mac Pro tower, not to any other model. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

  • After recent update to my macbook pro itunes will not open, it just bounces when I click on it

fter recent update to my macbook pro itunes will not open, it just bounces when I click on it

Means they are going to mess up your iPhoto Library pictures database  so it's unreadable by older versions of iPhoto on older OS X operating systems.
You have the choice to right click on the iPhoto Lbrary and inside is a folder called Origianls, use the Finder to Duplicate this folder, then move the OriginalsCopy out of the iPhoto Library folder and save it elsewhere.
I dont' think Apple will every intentionally touch the originals, however it's possible they could.

  • Trying to do a software update, but my macbook pro does nothing after it prompts me to restart

I am trying to do a software update on my Macbook Pro so I can update the new iTunes so I can start using my new iPod. Every time I go through the process of the computer searching for updates and confirming there are software updates, then being prompted to restart my computer, it does nothing. After my Macbook Pro turns on again, nothing pops up and I go into my information and it says I still have the old software. Nothing is prompting me to do the update after I restart my computer, or beforehand for that matter. HELP.

Are you really still running 10.6.2? If Software Update isn't working for you, you may want to try using the 10.6.8 combo update found here -->> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399.
If that doesn't work, call back...

  • After the last Yosemite update on my MacBook pro I turned the FileVault on, now my Mac is freezing all the time and encrypting the drive looks like going to last forever and I am unable to use my MacBook pro what must I do???!!!

after the last Yosemite update on my MacBook pro I turned the FileVault on, now my Mac is freezing all the time and encrypting the drive looks like going to last forever and I am unable to use my MacBook pro what must I do???!!!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

I downloaded the latest update on my MacBook Pro last week. Now I keep getting a pop-up that iCloud wants my password from an email login I haven't had in a year. I can't find where to delete that email login.  iCloud is also showing my new email login, plus a bogus one I accidentally created trying to fix this problem. Now the calendar on my MacBook Pro won't sync with my iPhone5.

It sounds like you have the Find my iphone Activation lock for sure. Go to www.icloud.com/find and see if you put in that Apple ID that is coming up and yoru password to see if you are able to sign into the account that way to turn it off. If you are unable to, you will have to contact AppleCare by phone (chat cannot handle account lock outs or forgotten password due to not being able to verify your identity) and see if they can reset it. And are you sure the Apple ID that is coming up yours?
