Updating ipod classic software

well i have an 'older' ipod classic. is there anyway for me to get the new software? the software were the albums scroll along the side of the main menu of the ipod. updating the software thru itunes does not work.

You can't update one iPod with software designed for another. If you have an older iPod (such as the 5th Generation model) you can't update it to have the "split screen" effect that you get with the Classic.

  • I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, got error 1602

I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, i walked away from computer and when i came back there was an error "1602" and a picture on my ipod (requesting to connect to itunes?) but WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!
What's going on?  Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems all at the same time.

From the article cited at the end of my post:
Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

  • Update ipod 1g software version 1.1.5

is it possible to update ipod 1g software version 1.1.5 to newer one?
When I click "check for update" it's says "Your Ipod is up to date" & that was the current version!

  • Do I ever need to update my iPod classic software?

Do I ever need to update my iPod Classic software

It seems increasingly unlikely that there will be new firmware released for the iPod classic line, but it is always a possibility. In my opinion the major outstanding issue with the older iPods is the treatment of Artist vs. Album Artist which tends to break up albums on older devices when guest/featured artists are involved (see Grouping tracks into albums) however that could be addressed entirely within iTunes if Apple choose to do so.

  • Updating Ipod classic Version

I recently brought a new car radio which does not read my ipod classic but will read my ipod nano. The nano is a 1.3 version and the classic is 1.2. When i plug in my classic to itunes it says ther are no updates. How can i update my ipod without having to purchase a newer model???

What does your car radio require? Have you looked at thier website for specifications?
I own a Ford vehicle which has the SYNC system, and all of the iPod firmware versons are supported it seems just fine.
Again the firmware is based on the model, and if iTunes is saying that it is the latest version then it should be fine... However, the communication interface is about the same so I don't understand how your radio is rejecting it. The only difference between the two is the internal specifications (one memory and one disk drive based). Unless for some reason your car radio can not store the index of the classic based on the size of the songs and music... As I know it takes SYNC a good 15 minutes to index all of the songs on my classic before it works, and then of course since it's voice interactive it needs to build the voice index which takes another 10 minutes at times.
Also just as an FYI, I don't know if your system for any reason would have any restrictions but to ensure that SYNC can proprely index the items (i think more for the voice piece) they have a special software to review the iTunes library.
Hope this helps you a little, but I'd check with the radio manufacturer as buying a new classic might not solve a single thing...
Additionally if you have a iPod Video (5th Generation) then I think 1.3 was the last version supplied.

  • Ipod classic software

can anyone tell me if it is possible to upgrade the software on an ipod click wheel 60 gb to match the ipod classic...I have both and whereas the clock wheel was the supreme ipod...it now seems defunct in comparison...my classic is an 8gb and would love to make the clickwheel perform with the same functions..many thanks..merry xmas

I think it is safe to say that going on past model changes the answer is no. As an example, when the Late 2006 version of the 5th Generation iPod was introduced it had a new search feature, this was not added retrospectively to the earlier model. The new changes are much more extensive than that one was so I wouldn't expect to see Cover Flow or any aspects of the new interface added through an Apple firmware update to earlier models.

    See if this article helps:

  • Problem Updating iPod Classic

okay, i have had an ipod classic for a while now (not quite sure how long), but my dad bought one a few days ago, his has a firmware version 2.0.5 i think and mine is 1.3 but every time i click update it says it is up to date. Is there any way i can get this firmware on as the UI for it is very good?
    Thanks in advance
    Sam

The iPod Classic has not had any updates for some time now, basically because it doesn't need any updates.
My iPod Classic has version 1.1.2 PC on it.
What exactly is the user interface that your dad's iPod has, that yours does not? Perhaps it's simply a screen option you haven't found yet.

  • New iPod classic software?

Does anyone know for sure when Apple will release a new software version for the iPod classic?
    THANKS!

Apple has not announced anything (and rarely does announce anything in advance).

  • IPod Classic Software Update?

Hey, anyone know when the next software update (1.1.3?) will be available?

No one here would know, Apple don't as a rule give advance warning of updates.

  • After updating my ipod classic software

it freezes my computer when i connnect it and wont sync my music, Im nervous because I updated my itunes as well and I didnt not have any problems before.

If a restore to factory settings did not resolve the issue, it's a likely indicator of a hardware fault, meaning you'll need to or want to set up an appointment at your local Apple Store/Genius Bar.

  • Updating iPod Touch Software Version and Apps saved game data

When I transfer my apps from iPod touch to iTunes will it also moved the saved game data like in Zombie Cafe, Amateur  Surgeon 2 so on and so fort? Because I want to update my software version...

No.  Transferring the app to the computer only transfers the app itself. not app data.  App dat is stored in the iPod backup that iTunes makes as the first step of the a sync and of an update.  Therefore, I would do one last sync of the iPod before restoring and ensure that the backup gets made.  You can check by going to the Devices tab in iTunes' Preferences and looking at the date of the backup.  Also, make sure your apps are in your iTunes library since the apps themselves are not in the backup but are synced to the iPod at the end of the update.

  • Problem with updating iPod Classic

I need to restore my iPod because whenever I highlight the music portion of my iPod the artwork half of the iPod turns white and the iPod reboots itself. All other parts I can go to with no problem. Anyways I try to restore the settings but it says I need to update my iPod to version 1.1.1, I download it but when it tries to install onto my iPod it says it cannot update because the firmware has been corrupted and to unplug and try again. I have tried many times but the same message pops up. So I cannot restore my iPod until I get the new software and I cannot get the new software. Also my iPod is in perfect condition I have only had it for a few months and have handled it very carefully. If anyone has any advice please help.

Try manually putting the iPod into disk mode, then restore:

  • Problems updating iPod mini software

I have OS 10.3.9 but recieve and error message saying You cannot update this volume. You need 10.2.8 or later.

    I have a similar problem.
When connecting my iPod video, iTunes says it needs a software update. But whenever I proceed, My iTunes gets a 'server error'. (...The iPod software update server could not be contacted....")
Is there a way to download just the update in zip file outside iTunes? In a FTP server perhaps?
It's been a day passed and I still can't update my iPod software.
