Updating Ipod classic Version
I recently brought a new car radio which does not read my ipod classic but will read my ipod nano. The nano is a 1.3 version and the classic is 1.2. When i plug in my classic to itunes it says ther are no updates. How can i update my ipod without having to purchase a newer model???
What does your car radio require? Have you looked at thier website for specifications?
I own a Ford vehicle which has the SYNC system, and all of the iPod firmware versons are supported it seems just fine.
Again the firmware is based on the model, and if iTunes is saying that it is the latest version then it should be fine... However, the communication interface is about the same so I don't understand how your radio is rejecting it. The only difference between the two is the internal specifications (one memory and one disk drive based). Unless for some reason your car radio can not store the index of the classic based on the size of the songs and music... As I know it takes SYNC a good 15 minutes to index all of the songs on my classic before it works, and then of course since it's voice interactive it needs to build the voice index which takes another 10 minutes at times.
Also just as an FYI, I don't know if your system for any reason would have any restrictions but to ensure that SYNC can proprely index the items (i think more for the voice piece) they have a special software to review the iTunes library.
Hope this helps you a little, but I'd check with the radio manufacturer as buying a new classic might not solve a single thing...
Additionally if you have a iPod Video (5th Generation) then I think 1.3 was the last version supplied.

okay, i have had an ipod classic for a while now (not quite sure how long), but my dad bought one a few days ago, his has a firmware version 2.0.5 i think and mine is 1.3 but every time i click update it says it is up to date. Is there any way i can get this firmware on as the UI for it is very good?

My iPod Classic has version 1.1.2 PC on it.
What exactly is the user interface that your dad's iPod has, that yours does not? Perhaps it's simply a screen option you haven't found yet. -

Can anyone help? I have an Ipod classic 120gb and it says there is an update available but when it tries to install a message says "cannot update this Ipod an unknown error occurred (1436)". Before this ipod i had an old ipod mini that worked fine so i don't think its my computer.

Updating ipod classic software
well i have an 'older' ipod classic. is there anyway for me to get the new software? the software were the albums scroll along the side of the main menu of the ipod. updating the software thru itunes does not work.
You can't update one iPod with software designed for another. If you have an older iPod (such as the 5th Generation model) you can't update it to have the "split screen" effect that you get with the Classic.

Problem with updating iPod Classic
I need to restore my iPod because whenever I highlight the music portion of my iPod the artwork half of the iPod turns white and the iPod reboots itself. All other parts I can go to with no problem. Anyways I try to restore the settings but it says I need to update my iPod to version 1.1.1, I download it but when it tries to install onto my iPod it says it cannot update because the firmware has been corrupted and to unplug and try again. I have tried many times but the same message pops up. So I cannot restore my iPod until I get the new software and I cannot get the new software. Also my iPod is in perfect condition I have only had it for a few months and have handled it very carefully. If anyone has any advice please help.

Ipod classic version 2.3, when connected to new macbook, both freeze
My old but faithful ipod is working fine, and connecting fine to my old ibook. I recently bought a new macbook (10.5.3) and when I try to connect my old ipod, they both freeze. I have to restart my macbook and reset my ipod. Is it possible the 2 are not compatible? The itunes version on this macbook is the newest and I have switched the hold button, but it doesn't help. If I then connect it to my old Ibook (10.2.8), everything is fine.
Can anyone help me?

Itunes doesn't update ipod classic
My ipod is recognized but itunes doesn't update the new tunes to the ipod. ?? Recently updated OS to Windows 7.
I have had this happen as well. What I had to do was sync the iPod to remove the album and the resync the album back to the Classic. I've had this happen with my iPhones as well. Must be a bug in either the current OS or iTunes versions.

Problem updating iPod software (version 1.2)
I'm trying to update my video iPod (30GB) with the latest software (version 1.2) through iTunes, but I get the following message:
"The iPod cannot be updated because it contains files that are in use by another application."
I've tried restarting the computer and resetting the IPod, but still get this message.

Unable to restore or update ipod classic software
Running into a couple of problems over the past couple of weeks
1:I can't sync any purchased albums or games to my ipod.Kept getting the error that
I wasn't authorized to play them on this computer.Prior to syncing I always make that authorization is successful.Was told to update or restore my ipod software but when i tried to unknown error 1417 appeared.to resolve this i followed the instructions of article ts1372
2:Now when i try to restore or update my ipod software i get the unknown error 1436

How to update iPod touch version 4.0?
I have an iPod touch 2nd generation (I believe) and it's 8GB. How do I update it to the new 4.0 version? My iTunes says its up to date when I check for updates, but it says that I have version 3.1.3. I am so confused and I don't even know if I can even do this so if someone could PLEASE help me, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Are you sure it is isn't a 1G iPod Touch? 1G iPod Touches can only go to iOS 3.1.3. Use this Apple support document to help you determine what generation it is.

I have never used this--on my ipad it says I have an account with icloud and that I can syn all my devices but there is no app for icloud on my ipad.
I have never used my ipod myself--that is to put material on it. A friend did it and I registered with Apple and I did have itunes and a list of my stuff on my old pc but it is gone. I tried to get itunes on the pc I have--no sucess--5 + attempts yesterday. Today I tried to link my ipod to icloud. In the "settings" heading I do not have a "software" choice. I do not know what to do. Can someone help me. I am not very pc literate--so you might get frustrated. Thank YouHi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!

I just recently purchased a MacBook. I had my data transfered from my pc but not all my playlists and only a very small portion of my overall music was moved over. If I sync my ipod will it restore everything that was in itunes before or just erase everything and put what is in itunes now on my ipod?
It will erase everything on the iPod only leaving (or adding) what is currently in your library. If it is on the iPod ONLY, you will lose it.

How do I update my ipod classic version 1.3 30GB so that it will control a Kenwood aftermarket car Stereo? My daughter's Nano will control it. The Kenwood help tech says the problem is my ipod software is too out of date.
