Updating Ipod Mini problem

Hi guys!
Well my mini has been working fine for as long as i can remember. However, when i was adding some new songs last night .. when i went to update it i must have clicked on something or who knows. Now whenever i try to update my ipod, the message "Songs on the ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exists" comes up.
I have no idea what's wrong. I've tried restarting my computer etc. But i'm all out of ideas ..

See this.

  • IPod Mini problems with 2nd computer (Manual Updating)

The laptop I had been using to update my IPod Mini now doesn't let me use ITunes (firewall issues). So, I am now using a desktop.
On the desktop, I have installed ITunes and IPod Updater. The connection seems to be working fine because my Ipod was updated.
I purchased a few songs on ITunes and they will not download onto the IPod. I have it set for manual update (so not to lose all of my other music!) and am clicking and dragging. Yet, when I check my IPod's screen, no new music.
Under File, "Update IPod" is in grey and is not an active option for me to select.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get the new songs on my IPod?

keep us posted on the desktop. we have a number of techniques for getting itunes to open if it's being interfered with by security software.
In the meantime, I just emailed tech support about Deauthorizing that laptop. Do you think that could be my problem?
good point. try playing those songs for a few seconds in itunes on the laptop. (sometimes itunes doesn't realise that they are authorised until you do that.)
do they drag to the ipod properly then?

  • Can't update IPOD mini

Hey, does anyone know how to solve this problem? Usually when u plug in the ipod mini, it will show "do not disconnect' icon on the ipod mini. But now it does not do that. It just charge my ipod mini. My main question is why can't the ITUNE read the ipod mini that i connected to the pc. I can't update a single song to the ipod mini at all. Please help me.
    Thanks~!!

First, try resetting the iPod with it connected. Try several times if it doesn't work the first.
There are also these to check out.

  • IPod mini problem...Any suggestions?

As of yesterday, my iPod mini will not work properly. Last night, I tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't respond. I finally got the Apple icon to come up after trying to reset it, but then I got the folder with the exclamation mark. When I plug it into the computer, I get the big battery sign, with about 1/4 of it shaded in, but it is frozen. My computer doesn't recognize that the iPod mini is even plugged in. Today, I downloaded the iPod updater, but that did not help the problem. I have been reading different posts involving this problem, and everything that I have tried has not worked. If anyone has any new suggestions, please reply! Thanks.

I don't have an ipod protection program so how much might it cost to have the headphone jack fixed? Do you think restoring my ipod might help the problem?

  • Ipod mini problems with itunes 5

I am having a ton of problems with my ipod mini since updating to itunes 5 and wanted to know if anyone else is having the same experience. Itunes is working fine, but my songs won't transfer to my mini. The ipod will act like it is updating, and even begin the update process, but it will crash and become unresponsive before the update completes. I've removed and reinstalled itunes 5 and quicktime multiple times. I've also restore my ipod to the factory settings and updated the software. I've tried disabling my mcaffee virus protection, and also disabling my cookie blocker. Still no luck.
Is anyone else having similar problems? I'm pretty much at a loss right now and don't know what else to do but bring the ipod back to best buy (I bought the service plan). Just a note, I never had a problem before updating to itunes 5.

Have you tried to reset your iPod? Hold the MENU & PLAY/PAUSE buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo on your screen and then release. Try to transfer songs to your mini and see if it works. If it doesn't, if I were you, I'd take it back to Best Buy and ask them what's going on.
I just updated my iTunes software and I am not having this problem.

  • Updating ipod mini options

I have both an ipod shuffle and a 4GB ipod mini. I'm trying to update the song files from my itunes library on to the mini but I cant access the library in preferences (it doesn't show up on the list) I connected my shuffle and I have no problem. The mini is only updating about 150 songs. I've tried to trouble shoot settings and preferences in both itunes and in the ipod. The only difference on the update window is that on the mini......there is a little lock icon next to where the used ipod memory is after update. This is not on the same screen when I update the shuffle so I suspect it might be related to the problem but haven't been able to find how to disable that lock (if that's what is is) or figure out what that is. Any help? Thanks

THe Same thing is happening to me. The ipod says that it cannot hold that many songs but it's not even like 20.

  • Unable to update Ipod mini / Computer not responding to Ipod

I recently switched computers and I installed the iPod mini software onto my new computer. This worked at first but when I started moving music from iTunes onto my iPod from my new computer, the downloads would stop even though the music had not been fully downloaded. When I checked my iPod, the new music was not there. I downloaded the new iTunes and the new updater. I then tried to update my iPod software but it said "Firmware failure" and then my iPod mini started showing me the exclamation mark folder every time I turned it on. I tried to restore the iPod using my new computer but everytime I tried to do that, it showed "Firmware failure." Next, I plugged my iPod mini into my old computer and used an old update program to restore the iPod and it worked. When I plugged the iPod back into my new computer, the computer would take a long time to recognize the player but iTunes wouldn'recognize it at all. When I try to update the ipod mini software, it shows initializing for a long time before the program crashes.
What should I do to get this ipod working again?

ok try this ...... this is the totally resetting things to do !!!!! first holthe center and the menu down when the apple comes then hold the center and the play down...... then it should be totally reset.... then install the new ipod updater and itunes 4.9 and then try if it works ...........

  • Ipod Mini - Problem with power

    Hi all!!!
i've got a problem with my Mini Ipod.
Suddendly it seems that the battery of my Ipod doesn't recharge. I've changed computer (both with Windows XP) and cable and i've tried also with an iHome alarm clock/Radio. But nothig seems to work so i think that the problem is with the iPod.
Forward the Ipod seems to "tilt" because sometimes when i connect it to the pc the monitor freezes with the picture of the battery recharging but it's frozen and i need to reset it also after i have to disconnect it from the PC.
May some of you can help me giving some good advice!!
    thanks and bye
    Dario

Not too sure, but I believe it is the time to have the battery replacement for your iPod mini. Normally, the battery needs to be replacement after 18-24 months

  • Ipod Mini Problem

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me. I bought a new Ipod mini on saturday, and I had to take it back because it was dead..they swapped it for a new one, and everything was going okay..until today.
I was listening to my Ipod on the way to work, and the battery drained and the Ipod turned off. No problem I thought..I got home after work, and plugged it back into my pc to charge.
However, the screen showed a large STATIC battery icon..and now it won't do anything.
I've reset it by toggling the hold button and pressing the select and menu buttons together..but all it does is show the apple icon and then go dead.
Can anyone suggest anything? Is this one broken too? I'm getting through Ipod's like slices of cake LOL

    Stephen, Welcome To Apple Discussions.
The large Battery Icon Is Not Offensive , Trust Me.. You Simply Need to Make a Reset While it's Still connected...Even if you don't see the APPLE.
Then You let it COnnected for a while.. (about 10 minutes).. and You Unconnect Your ipod.. and the apple Should Appear.
The Large battery shows Up because there is Not Even a Smidge Of Power to run the iPod while connected to computer..
Your iPod Is Nether Broken, Nether Need For replacement.
    Good Luck.

  • IPod mini problems with iTunes 7

    Hey all.
I wanted to share my experiences with everyone to see if anyone has been experiencing similar difficulties.
I own a second-generation ipod mini. It is a little over a year old and was given to me as a gift. It has worked great as a hard drive, and I am a music education student so I use my iPod several times a day. Just a few days ago I installed iTunes 7 on my computer. I plugged in my iPod and it hasn't worked since. I have visited several forums and it seems lots of other iPod owners are experiencing difficulties with the new iTunes download and their iPods. I tried re-setting the ipod, re-storing it, I have called several places in town for support and have also called a 1-800 mac support line. The support line was not helpful at all since I am not under warrenty anymore, and I was told that I could pay 30 dollars for troubleshooting. Of course, there's no guarantee that will fix the problem, and let's be honest, I'm a college student. Money is hard to come by.
I have tried uninstalling iTunes, re-installing an older version, I have used the iPod installation software that came with the purchase, I have asked the person who bought me the ipod, a die-hard mac fan and computer science major and he has worked for several hours to fix the solution. No one seems to be owning up to the problem or admitting the cause.
My iPod has crashed because of apple's iTunes software and it has been extremely disappointing trying to get it replaced or even trying to talk to someone without being charged. I think since the device is less than two years old and cost quite a bit of money, and iTunes is what broke it, I don't think I should have to pay 189 dollars for out-of-warrenty service that doesn't guarantee it fixed.
This is extremely disappointing. For years I have heard what great reliable products apple produces. I was planning my next major computer purchase to be a mac book but now I am seriously reconsidering since no one seems to want to help. My faith in apple is diminishing, and I think I may not be the only one.

    one more time,
ok, so we know what you have done to try to resolve the issue, but we do not know what the issue is. "My iPod has crashed because of apple's iTunes software" tells us absolutely nothing about your problem.
    So... try again.
What is the problem that you would like assistance with?
My point is that I do not see how installing new iTunes software could be a direct cause of iPod Hardware failure, so if you give more information about the problem you are experiencing, someone here may be able to help you find a solution.

  • IPod mini problem: just got it and it is already acting up!

    Hi,
i just got another ipod, this time a mini. i've had it for about 2 weeks and it is acting up.
i have the ipod mini(hp version).
the battery is charged and it won't turn on when it is plugged into my computer or in my apple charger + usb 2.0 cord that i bought for it. i did the toggle hold/on, and push menu and select simultaneously trick and it DID NOT WORK!
but i checked to see if it the charger/wire was defective by using my friend's charger with the firewire cord and i got it to turn on, BUT THE BATTERY IS NOT CHARGING.the battery looks about 80% charged. i disconnect to see if the ipod mini will stay one without the charger, the mini turned off and i can't get it back on without plugging it into the firewire + charger. i try to hook it back to my computer, ipod still does not turn on.
i have the latest ipod updater, and the latest itunes.

Apologies, but I find your post confusing. What exactly is your issue here?
Your iPod won't turn either connected to computer/charger or on it's own?
The battery doesn't charge connected to the computer/charger?
Your computer won't recognize the iPod?
May I suggest you start with these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.

  • Massive iPod Mini Problem!

I have no idea what has happened to my iPod Mini. I'm unable to switch it on and when I plug it into my PC, neither iTunes or iPod updater (that's both system update and system restore) works because it just says:
"Plug in an iPod to update it."
I've tried manual reset, but my iPod Mini won't respond to any button controls at all. Nothing is ever displayed on screen. This happened right after I updated my iPod to the 2005-09-23 version. I'm using USB connection and I've tried different USB ports but nothing is working. Please help!

I had this happen the other night. I finally got it to respond while holding the menu and select buttons for about 25 seconds, basically performing a reset. See if that helps. Once you get it turned on, if you don't need to back up anything on there, do a restore with the updater. Hope that helps! That's what I did....

  • Updating Ipod Mini... Wont work!

I got a new computer and transfered my songs into the library. I have been unable to get the new purchased songs to update. When I connect it says "updating ipod, do not disconnect" but the songs never end up on the ipod. The computer is authorized and I have all the new updates. When I plug it into my computer that I first had it on at work it updates fine but I will not have acess to that computer any longer soon and I want to be able to download songs at home. Any ideas? Also..ever since I got my ipod it has always read "do not disconnect" when I plug it in. It never say's it is ok to disconnect. Please help! Should I restore the factory settings or maybe I should re install Itunes. Maybe I didnt transfer the music over the right way? Any help would be great!

    hiya!
I have been unable to get the new purchased songs to update. When I connect it says "updating ipod, do not disconnect" but the songs never end up on the ipod.
hmmm. if it's just recently purchased music that isn't going into the ipod, try the techniques in this user tip:
Scott P: iTunes won't transfer purchased music to iPod
Also..ever since I got my ipod it has always read "do not disconnect" when I plug it in. It never say's it is ok to disconnect.
let's check on the simpler possibilities first. when the ipod is plugged in (and showing up in your itunes source list), go into your "ipod" itunes preferences tab. do you have either "Manually manage songs and playlists" or "enable disk use" checked? if so, what you are seeing is normal. the ipod will show "do not disconnect" until you eject it within itunes.
EDIT: actually, if it's in manual mode, that'll be why new additions to your itunes library aren't syncing to the ipod automatically.

  • Problems updating iPod mini software

I have OS 10.3.9 but recieve and error message saying You cannot update this volume. You need 10.2.8 or later.

    I have a similar problem.
When connecting my iPod video, iTunes says it needs a software update. But whenever I proceed, My iTunes gets a 'server error'. (...The iPod software update server could not be contacted....")
Is there a way to download just the update in zip file outside iTunes? In a FTP server perhaps?
It's been a day passed and I still can't update my iPod software.

  • IPod Mini Problems Please Help

This is my second post of the type... no one replied to that so im hoping someone could help me.
    Problems:
    -Wont Update or Load Songs
-It starts loading, gets to around the 5th song (out of well over 600) and says "Ipod Update Complete, OK To Disconnect" though nothing is on the iPod.
-Occasionally wont restore to factory settings.
Okay, before you suggest the five R's, ill note that ive put several MONTHS into this, and ive tried them well over 20 times in order.
    Things Tried
-5 R's Repeatedly (as noted above)
-updating on a friends computer (several times with no luck, same problems)
    -requested help over the phone
-The number i called was the Apple US Help Line, which the person helped me for about an hour before he said he did not know what was up, and transfered me to the Canadian help line, where they demanded a large sum for help, which i could not pay (under 18).
-When i first noticed the problems, I sent it in (around the end of december)and problems continued upon arrival of the new mini.
I will also note that my sisters iPod Nano works perfectly fine, no problems, as well as my friends iPods adding songs from my computer.
Please please help... im currently resorting to a crappy CD player that skips for my music... and have been... its starting to break me inside.
    Thank you,
    Milan

    Natalie,
If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.
For the iPod to automatically open iTunes, you have to have "open iTunes when this iPod is attached" checked.
Go to edit/preferences/iPod to do this.
If you prefer to keep the iPod set to manual transfer, look at this. In fact, the whole tutorial is a must read.
