Updating iPod Problem

Hello all and a happy new year
Please Help!!
When i open iTunes and then connect my iPod it appears in the left hand column in iTunes and begins to update. The do not disconnect screen flashes on my iPod and iTunes tells me it is "updating iPod do not disconnect". The problem is it wont finish updating it just goes on and on and if i try to Eject my iPod, iTunes then Freezes and i have terminate the program and disconnect my iPod without Ejecting it.
Thanks in advance
Craig Davison

I am having a simular issue with my 5th Gen. I also use Microsoft outlook (Sync with iPod). So, I open iTunes, connect iPod, --->
iTunes ----> Will update, then finish. "ok to disconnect"
iPod ----> Will not finish syncing. "Do not disconnect"
Not selected:.
--Enable disk Use
--Only sync checked items
I have to reset the iPod, while still connected, then disconect. that is the only method that works. However, I don't like the potential longterm damage to the iPod operating program? *** is up?

  • Updating iPod problem 2

    Hi,
connecting my ipod to computer is fine, and it also says that it is transferring the newest songs to my ipod. It then says "Ipod update complete. disconnect..
However, when I look on my ipod to see if they are there, they are not.
The problem occured when i accidently disconnected my ipod when it said "do not disconnect".
I don't want to restore my ipod yet and will only resotre it as a last resort.
    Please Help!
    thank you

    Hi there -
The symptom you described is pretty common after accidentally disconnecting the iPod without ejecting it. Unfortunately, the only way to resolve the issue is to restore the iPod. This will erase the files that are on your iPod, reinstall the software onto it, and repair any bad sectors or fragmentation that was caused by the improper disconnect. However, the files will still be in your iTunes library, so all you have to do is restore it, wait for iTunes to open, name it & set your update preferences, skip the registration step if you've already registered your iPod, then let your songs update. Once you've done this, make sure you disconnect it properly, and your iPod will be good to go!

  • Update iPod problems

I have tried to put 3 new CDs I have bought onto my iPod and when I drag and drop the playlist (once inported from CD to iTunes) onto my iPod icon it says this message below:
The iPod "My iPod" cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in the selected playlists.
I have long list of playlists, does this mean I have to erase some of my playlists in order to acquire enough space to import new music onto my iPod?
    Thanks

It is not necessary to delete music, if you want your iPod to update only some of the songs on your Mac.
The 5,000 song benchmark is not guaranteed. It depends a lot on what format your music is in, among other things.
The fact that your iPod thinks it has way more space than it really does is not good for your situation.
First, restore, your iPod (WARNING: This will erase its entire contents. If everything is on your Mac, no worries):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
After that, here is the procedure for making your iPod update only selected playlists, or updating whatever you drag into it:

  • Updating ipod problem (synching)

Just downloaded 7.0 and now after trying to synch up my 60 GB ipod for 2 hours still nothing, it says its still synching but none of the newly downloaded podcasts or anything else has shown up and no sign of it ending. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with iTunes 7.0. The only thing I can recommend as a temporary crutch is to shutdown your computer. Plug in your iPod. Power up, the boot process might take a little longer. When you can see the desktop, try to open iTunes manually and it should sync. It will only sync once. This is to get you through until Apple ceases its policy of making us beta testers and actually releases working versions of software.

  • IPod Updater Code problem? iTunes not connecting with iPod.

There may be a problem with the iPod updater.
    I have a 15 GB iPod (JQ418QZLQQF)
Updated iTunes to 5.0.1.4. Connected iPod.
Got a window...told me to downloaded iPod Updater 9/23/05. Did it.
Updated iPod. iTunes would start writing and then quit. Got a window; told me to restore iPod.
Tried restore 7 times. Failed. When iTunes tried to load it stalled, then McAfee Antivirus program hung up, then got messages that it could no longer communicate with iPod ... got (-36) errors.
Got FAQ sheets. Did everything. Unplugged from internet, disabled antivirus program. No luck.
Unloaded every non-related program in RAM. No luck.
Tried iTunes and iPod in SAFE mode. No luck.
Last error message was "Attempting to copy to the disk "IPOD" failed. An unknown error occurred (-53)"
Bought 5th generation 20 GB iPod Color. Plugged it in.
Reformatted it with the 9/23/05 ipod updater. ... iTunes could not connect to it.
Tried the 9/6/05 updater. Still didn't work.
Opened the CD that it came with and installed the 6/5/05 ipod updater software. iTunes immediately recognized the new ipod and loaded songs without failure.

I ran into this on a client system yesterday. Same issue re: new songs with a dock ipod running ver 2.2.
I tried to update on three separate g4 based macs, each running 10.3.9. On one, the ipod failed to mount. On the other two, the updater gave the message {approx} "the firmware for the update is not present" when the Update button was clicked.
For no good reason, I tried using the "Update" in the Options menu instead of the button. I immediately got an administer confirmation box, gave the password, and the update proceded correctly. Monkey behavior triumphs. Got to be an installer bug. Try it and let us know if this works for you.

  • Problem updating iPod 2.3 with dock connector

Please help me! I downloaded the info to update my iPod, but when I click the update button, it says "the updater does not have a firmware image." What does this mean? What can I do to fix the problem so I can update my iPod software instead of restoring the factory settings?

I have similar problem and have tried "Update". Message come up that some music files will not be updated. Unfortunately the only files it will not update to iPod are the files downloaded and paid for from Apple music store. I wonder if it is an iTunes 6 issue with older gen iPods? I have updated iPod software v 2005-10-12

  • Problem Updating iPod software on iTunes

I am having problems updating my iPod software through iTunes. As soon as it gets to the end of the download, an error message comes up (-48, I think) that states there was an error in downloading the update. It suggests to check my internet connection or try again later. It happens everytime. I have a very stable internet connection and my iTunes software is version 7.1.1.5

    hi j.block!
hmmmmmmmmmmm. one other thing that might be worth a try if all else fails. i have once seen something like this turn out to be caused by a really kinky version of this issue:
iTunes: "privileges" or "permissions" issue when importing audio CD or adding music to library
... where the permissions were odd on the ipod itself ... but i've only seen that happen once. it's probably worth checking on only if nothing else seems to be working for you.

  • My iphone 3gs wont update. itunes and ipod touch update no problem, my GF has exact same phone and hers updated also...any advice?

My iphone 3gs wont update. itunes and ipod touch update no problem, my GF has exact same phone and hers updated also...any advice?

If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup.  I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.

  • Problems with updating iPod to reflect iTunes

    Hey all,
I'm having a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I've had my iPod about a year and this problem has only just developed.
Basically, when I connect my iPod via USB as usual, with iTunes open - It does recognise that my iPod is there, but what it doesn't seem to recognise is that it isn't up-to-date with iTunes.
It says very briefly 'updating iPod' like it should do, but then almost immediately says 'update complete' - Like it would if everything had gone well, except it hasn't. Theres lots of songs I've added, renamed etc since my last update, and it wont update them.
Just to try and narrow it down a bit:
    - My software is all up-to-date
    - My iPod isn't full
    - I've tried different USB ports
    - And I've tried everything simple like restarting.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Harry

  • Cannot see music playlists when trying to update ipod

hello, i've had lots of problems with itunes 7, stuttering music, lock ups etc.- wish i hadn't upgraded!
latest issue is when eventually i updated ipod to 1.2 software and tried to update it i can see playlists for movies and podcasts but not for music.
any ideas how to solve please.
i thinks its bad that apple haven't posted at least a note saying they'll look into these issues

    hello again,
i know i can use the black arrow to view playlists on my ipod, but there arn't any - i did a restore on this ipod and so it hasn't got any playlists on it now, and i want to get them back on, i only did the restore because i was having the same problem when i upgraded to 1.2 as i'm having now and i hoped restore might solve it but it didn't!
to get playlists back on the ipod i was hoping to open up the music tab on the large ipod menu and select various playlists from the list inside the rectangle as i used to on itunes 6 and the ones before, but the playlists don't show up for me to select to copy to my ipod, the playlists are still in itunes and i can play them on the computer albeit with bad sound quality since upgrade.
i can see playlists under the movies and podcast tabs and i can copy these to ipod but no music playlists.
as i've said i can copy playlist the long way by dragging the playlist from the grey list on the side of the screen and dropping them on the ipod under devices but this will take days
    thanks

  • I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, got error 1602

I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, i walked away from computer and when i came back there was an error "1602" and a picture on my ipod (requesting to connect to itunes?) but WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!
What's going on?  Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems all at the same time.

From the article cited at the end of my post:
Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

Hi , I am trying to update iPod that has iOS 2.2.1 to iOS 4.2 but I am getting the following error message, "the iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (-1)." I would appreciate if anyone could let me know what the problem is and if it is possible how to fix it? Thanks

Attempt to restore your iOS device two more times. If the issue is still unresolved, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    hi Aubrey!
i will have my itunes up. then plug in my ipod and it says updating ipod but when it says it is okay to disconnect still my ipod has 118 songs while my library has 176
hmmm. if Katie's suggestion about the ipod updater software doesn't pan out (it's certainly worth checking), maybe try investigating this possibility:
