Updating iPod touch to iPhone 3.0 Software for iPod touch, getting error 14

I recently tried to update my 2g iPod touch to the 3.0 software. During the installation, I got an error message saying that an "unknown error 14" has occurred. This happened during the restoration process, and then my iPod just gave me the screen with the USB cable and the iTunes logo. iTunes then told me to restore the ipod, and during that restoration process, I got the same error. I also tried doing the restore manually by finding the iPod software on my hard drive, and then option-clicking on the restore button the find the software and then install. If anyone has any fixes or suggestions for this problem, they would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. I have spent the last 8 hours researching this problem and have the absolute 110% answer to everyone's problem with this issue.
Error 13 and 14 : Are checksum problems with the firmware image that is in the update package.
The update package is a .ipsw (IPod or IPhone SoftWare). This file is actually just a .zip renamed .ipsw.
The error is caused by a failure to download a crc-free version of the file. Not really sure why there are so many crc problems with the iphone updates, but Apple does not check the integrity of the update package before wiping your current version of IPhone software and that is why all IPhones that start an update with a bad update package end up in recovery mode. These errors are NOT related to the iTunes installation, antivirus software, or firewalls.
Recommendation : use a program like "Object Fix" (Freeware) to verify the integrity of the file prior to commencing with any new updates. You will have to keep trying to download it until you get a error free file. Once you have a CRC error free file this problem will go away. (I thought TCP/IP helped get rid of CRC errors.)
I had another problem and that was...
Error 1603 and 1604 : These are USB driver connectivity problems.
Recommendation : FULLY uninstall and re-install itunes software as stated in the Apple support documentation. Be sure to reboot between each step and these problems should clear themselves up. In addition, firewalls and anti-virus software may cause these errors as well.
Finally, shame on apple for not properly documenting their software so that end users do not have to decrypt their error messages with no true support to solve the issues. These are problems that enough people have had that there should be specific documentation on these problems.

  • TS3694 iPod touch gets error -1303 when attempting to restore after update (W7)

iPod touch gets error -1303 when attempting to restore after update (W7).  This error is not shown anywhere in the specific list.  Have done all recommended recovery methods (reboot, update iTunes, restart iPod) to no avail. What is next?

Usually the 1303 error is in regards to a corrupted or missing backup of your iPod Touch.  Try removing or moving the backups to another location and then try to restore your iPod once again.

  • Iphone 3gs in recovery; needs restore; but gets error code

    I have a new 3gs Iphone.
I installed the newest version of ITUNES- 9.something.
I start the SETUP IPHONE PROCESS.
I am told that I need to upgrade to new Iphone OS.
It takes 2 hours to download.
    I get an error
I try to reconnect the iphone - GET MESSAGE that the phone is in recovery and needs to be restored.
I start restore - i get an error. I start again. It shows all the green bars as completed but then freezes. I restart the computer.
ITUNES tells me again that Iphone is in recovery and needs restore.
I start restore. I get a message: The Iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (14).
I don't know what to do.

I have had this same problem, and you'll find out it will eventually work, but then after that your phone wont even start up and wont be able to connect to your computer! it's only allowing me to make Emergency Calls
This new update has really peeved me, i need my phone for work.
Try another computer, updating itunes, or different ports, restarting computer. Only thing i can think of sorry.

  • HT201210 iphone won't charge or restore, keep getting error message

Last night I plugged my iPhone 4 into the APPLE wall charger and it would not recognize it to charge it, I unplugged it and plugged my iPad into the same charger and it worked so it was clearly my phone.  I called my service provider because I was going out of town today and it was already late at night. I was going to re-activate my old iPhone 3 until I could take it in and get it looked at....that was a nightmare....it's always a sad day when a consumer knows more about a product then the person selling them......she told me to take my sim card out of my iPhone 4 and just put it into my iPhone 3 and it would work, there was no need to call in....seriously??? They are TWO DIFFERENT cards that don't work in one another....if it was that simple would I have really called in the first place.....UGH! ANYWAYS..................so after she hooked up my old iPhone 3 to my husbands account and disconnected his iPhone 4S.....she is real swift.....I put my sim card in my husband's phone to get through the day! WIth my iPhone 4 only have 9% battery left I turned it off and left it over night.  Then this morning while it was turned off I plugged it back into the same charger and the apple sign appeared.....so that would tell me that it's not the charging port that is the problem....except it still won't recognize the charger? I have done a reset...hold the home and power button at the same time with no luck, called apple and followed their instructions of holding the home button and plugging it into the USB port that is hooked to the computer to do a restore, it makes it through like it's going to restore and then I get the following message: The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1604)
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
    Thanks!

    Hello tsugi1002,
It sounds like your iPhone 4S is not charging when plugged into your computer.  I found an article with some steps that might help with this.  I recommend reviewing the steps in the sections titled "Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter" and "Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off" in the following article:

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

  • Why can i restore my iphone 4 and why do i keep get error 1611??

i disable my phone beacuse i locked it and forgot my code . so i trying to restore it but i cant i keep getting error 1611 and i do not know what to do   can anybody help ? so frusted

Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device.  Follow the steps  in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with a  known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate  this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0)  can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured proxy or security software, such as FoxyProxy, can cause error 1611.    To troubleshoot third-party security software, follow these steps.

  • When I try to add music or audiobook to Ipod I get error code 0x8007045d- what's wrong?

Error code 0x8007045D comes up when I try to add songs or audiobooks to my ipod- any suggestions as to what's wrong?

The error message is " Attempting to copy to the disk 'Mike's IPOD' failed.  The disk could not be read from or written to."
I am in "manually transfer music" mode on the IPOD.  Some mp3 music files can be copied to the ipod via iTunes. When I try to copy serverl files, it will copy 1 or more, then hang up on  a file.  Sometimes if I try with that file several times it will finally copy to the IPOD.
The error comes up while I am in iTunes-- I assume it is referring to the IPOD, but I am not sure.  I am running Windows 7.
    Thanks for your help.

  • HT201401 After updating to ios7, my iphone 4s is hanging continuosly. It get stuck between apps. Sometimes apps stop responding..

My iphone 4s stop responding very frequently after updating to new software ios7. Sometimes it freezes while playing games or using any app. Apps closes by itself or stop responding. I dont know wats goin on. Totally frustrated. Ios7 *****. Is it due to new software update or something else???

Briansyddal - you might be able to manage your phone without a PC, but many of us can't, especially those of us with large iTunes libraries.  How do you propose I manage my 250GB of music using only a phone?  Maybe I could go out and buy 10 iPhones and spread my library out among them!
Catz537 - I have the same problem as you and I've spent hours on the web trying to find a solution to it.  It was a problem with iOS 7 and  8.1.1 doesn't fix it.  The the only advice from Apple is completely useless because it requires you, effectively, to delete and recreate your iTunes library and lose all your metadata, album art, notes etc and there's also no guarantee it will work.   I wish I could be more help (even more - I wish Apple could be more help) - I updated to 8.1.1 at 1400 today.  At 2200 I'm still "waiting for changes to be applied" for a measly 16GB of music transfer.

  • Please Help Me Install the Ipod Software...I get errors ;o(

    Hello,
I already downloaded the Updater (2005-10-12) and Itunes from this website. I had a USB problem before when I was going through the Ipod setup. But that problem is solved now. When I get asked to connect the Ipod, I connect it using the cable that's provided. It says "Your ipod is now connected". It now asks me if I want to format my ipod and i say yes of course...However, I get a new message that says "error communicating with your ipod" (or something like that).."please disconnect and connect again" which I did...more than a couple of times. I reset my Ipod already and started all over again but nothing happens....
What should I do? Can someone please help me? pls? ...
I have the 20GB ipod (new) and I'm running Windows XP.
    Thanks!

    hello again...
I got through the ipod set up process...i'm now trying to install itunes and it gives me the 1607 error...i'm now trying to follow the instructions (from one of the threads here) to fix this error and it says:
    Fix
To fix this issue, you need to determine the version number of the IsScript engine you need, download it, and install it.
    1. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver from the machine.
    2. Right-click on the installation file that you are trying to install and select Properties.
    * The typical names for installation files are setup.exe, update.exe, installer.exe, etc.
    * Your installation file can be found on the CD where you are running the setup from.
step number 2 is unclear to me. when i go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver, the folder "driver" has only three folders "7", "8" and "11"...which one should I go to then?

This error typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, this error may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. in that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
