Updating IPOD without losing tunes that are no longer on Itunes

How do I update my Ipod without losing the songs that have
disappeared from ITunes?

Try going to File-->Add folder to library and select the My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder. See if it comes back.
If not, see if the steps listed here help...

  • Cannot update ipod due to files that are in use by another application

Uploaded iTunes version 7 onto my PC on Friday. Ever since my fifth generation video (30GB) ipod cannot be either updated with version 1.2 software, syncronised or restored due to the error message "The ipod cannot be updated becuase it contains files that are in use by another application".
Not sure the issue is related to the itunes upgrade but it is a strange coincidence.
Also having a problem becuase my pc runs outlook 2002 which is not compatible with itunes 7 and my calender cannot be syncronised. Don't know whether the two issues are related.

Kudos to Randy. Thanks a lot; this worked for me. I simply opened itunes (and minimized it) with my ipod connected, opened "My Computer," right-clicked "IPOD" and ejected it. As soon as the icon in My Computer showed that it was ejected I quickly maximized itunes, clicked IPOD, and clicked the update button. Wah lah! iPod updated. Hope that helps the rest of you out there with this problem! Thanks again!

  • How do I take off some of the ipods on my account that are no longer in use?

I've had an iTunes account for a while and ipods have come and gone - Some of those that are gone are still registered so I can't add new ones to our account.  Does anyone know how to help?  Now, my husband has an iPhone and we can't get it to sync to our iTunes and it has trouble syncing my new iTouch.

Log into your iTunes account in iTunes > Store.
    Look in Devices.

  • My wife has 3 audiobooks on her Iphone 5 that are no longer in Itunes.  How can she delete these 3 audiobooks from her Iphone?  Thanks

My wife has 3 audiobooks on her Iphone 5.  These have been deleted from Itunes.  How can these audiobooks be deleted from her Iphone 5.  Thanks

    Hello BDCrowd,
It sounds like you are wanting to delete these audio books from the iPhone. I recommend going here in your settings:
Tap Settings > General > Usage to view the amount of space each app and its content takes on your device.
From: iPhone, iPad, and iPod: Understanding capacity
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1867
Then tap Music, and swipe left on AudioBooks and choose Delete when it appears to delete them all in one swipe.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HT4972 How the heck do I stinken update my Ipod without losing ALL OF MY DATA!!!

Hello, I would like to know how to update my ipod without losing all of my data (apps, music, ect.) could someone tell me please?

All that is required is to sync your iPod Touch with iTunes. This creates a complete backup of all its content.
If you read the instructions for updating iOS it cautions you to back up first.

You cannot use someone else's apps without violating the license agreement. The apps are tied to the owner (via Apple ID). The right thing to do would be to update and start fresh.

I had the same problem. I had to uninstall 7.0 and install 6.0 and was able to restore OK. I'm back using 6.0, but just got a second generation ipod nano, so I have to go to 7.0 or greater. My only words of wisdom are DO NOT SET ANY LOCKS until you are really sure you want to. Also with 7.0 I could not eject my ipod unless I went to the "safe to eject ipod" command. Apple has some problems to work out and I hope soon. Clumsy as best...............

It means that nano was used on a third-party software or synced from different computer to sync music. Does that nano show in iTunes? If yes, then restore completely. If not, then you may need to head to Apple Store and see what they can do.

  • Transfering music from new iMac to iPod without losing songs on ipod

    Hello,
I've just finised uploading all my CD's onto my new iMac. I now wish to download the contents of the iMac's iTunes library onto my iPod (click wheel but not video) without losing the songs that are already on the iPod. The iPod was originally synced to a Windows PC which was used to download it's existing library. There are a number of songs on my iPod that are not in my new iMac's iTunes library & also a large number of songs that are already on the iPod.
Basically, I want to know how I can download all songs from my iMac's library that are not already on the iPod without losing the songs I have on the iPod that are not in the iMac's iTunes library (Ihope that makes sence).
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Dave!
    Yes, you can do this.
First off, do this to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing your iPod:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Option and Command keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
4 - Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds, throughout the time when your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List (the Source List is the left panel area of iTunes), and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Also, go to the “Music” tab, and ensure that the “Sync” option isn’t selected.
Click the “Apply” button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
Manually managing the songs on your iPod will allow you to preserve the current content that you have on your iPod, and transfer new content from your iTunes library to your iPod.
When you are connecting your iPod to a computer that is different than what it is normally synced to, you will get a message that says something like: "The contents of the iPod "your iPod's name" is synced to another iTunes library. What would you like to do?"
You will be given a couple of options, and make sure to click on "Cancel", and NOT "Erase and Sync" (or else the current contents of your iPod will be erased, and the iPod will be synced with your iTunes library).
So, after you've saved your iPod's songs from being automatically synced off of it, you can transfer your iPod's music to your compter if you wish.
You can install a third-party program onto your computer that can do this copying.
    Try using Senuti.

  • How can I transfer purchased itunes from my computer to my iPod without losing/erasing the current songs on my iPod?

How can I transfer purchased iTunes from my computer to my iPod without losing all the songs I currently have on my iPod?  I've already burned the purchased songs onto DVDs, but they still aren't recognized as authorized songs that I can copy onto my iPod.  One other note:  The songs I purchased were done so with iTune versions much earlier than 10.0, does that matter?  I couldn't tell you what version though.

Not sure what you are saying.
What is stopping you from adding the songs?
Are you getting an error message?
    What does it say?

    My iPod dispalys this message:
"Connect to a computer. Use iTunes to restore."  When I connect to a computer, iTunes doesn't recognise it.  The iPod 5th Gen does not work at all. How do I fix my iPod without losing any data?
I have seen the Apple webpage suggesting the "five R's" (including restore).  Before doing anything, I want to be sure that restoring or any other action is not going to delete or risk my data.
I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest a fix for this problem, in a way that will not risk my data.
    Thanks in advance!

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • How do you download albums to i tunes that are compilations and keep them together as a album

how do you download albums to i tunes that are compilations and keep them together as an album i have several discs that have downloaded singley the i tunes is a mess

Quick answer:  Select all the tracks on the album, File > get info, and either give them all a single "album artist", or check the "compilation" flag (as in https://discussions.apple.com/message/17670085).
If these are from multiple-CD sets you may also need to enter the appropriate information in the disc number fields.
