Updating iTunes from 10.1 to 11.whatever. Desperate for help

I have seriously avoided update for a while now.
I guess I still have 10.1 from 2010, and I really want to update it to the newest 11.1 or whatever it is. I tried just redownloading the whole program from online, and it said I need at least 10.5 to upgrade.
Now what????

Ah.... Before you can upgrade iTunes, you need to upgrade your operating system.
You still running Snow Leopard? You need to upgrade to Mountain Lion. It will cost you $19.99 at the App store. Then you can update iTunes.

Set the permissions for Everyone in the folder in which CCPackager created, to "Read/Write" enabled. This is strange since there is only an administrator account on the Mac (and that account already has read/write), but it seems to resolve the issue.

Can you update itunes from what is on your ipod touch if they wont sync up?

I have been trying for months to get my ipod and my itunes on the same page. I have things on my pod that my itunes account say cant be found and things on my itunes Ive downloaded that wont transfer to my pod. The answers I have gotten are to update itunes using an old back up which will mean Ill lose a good bit of what I have on itunes. Is there not a way to update itunes from the ipod iteself? Or am I being stupid here?

iDevices are not backup devices.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or backup of the old computer to the new computer.

iTunes 10.6.3 is the latest iTunes version for Mac OS X 10.5.8.
iOS 7 devices require iTunes 11, which needs Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine, buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the Apple Online Store, insert the DVD and upgrade.
After upgrading, you can download 10.6.8 from the Apple website or just from Software Update. Then, if you want, you can upgrade to OS X Mavericks for free from the App Store

What kind of gobbledegook is that? Are you or Microsoft crazy. Us computer users need simpler instructions. Or you need to write your programs so that they work.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.

Has anyone had the same issue?

I get error messages continuously when updating itunes. The error message I'm getting is: "Unable to install the GEAR driver set at this time. The GEAR AspiWDM used by the Gear driver set is scheduled to be deleted during the next system reboot. Please reboot the system and run itunes again." I've done this numureous times with no resolve.
I've read allot of 7.1.1 install problems but never ran accross this one. Does the 7.1.1 upgrade for itunes have clitches in the software? With 2500 songs and 20 movies currently on itunes and my ipod, I would hate to lose so much at this point or at all. Anybody, please give me your feedback or potential resolution to this problem. Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

Update itunes from 8.02 to 8.2

i updated my iphone OS to the latest version and now it asks for itunes ver 8.2 to complete. the problem i have is that for some reason i can not upgrade itunes 8.02 to 8.2 on my mac - when i check update in itunes it shows the new version 8.2 to be updated, however, after scanning the computer a note comes that all software is up-to-date - itunes remains in version 8.02 and my iphone is somewhere stuck in the middle of OS update & requests itunes 8.2 to finish.

Have tried manually updating iTunes. Try downloading the 8.2 package from the site below and installing it that way. See if that helps.

So I'm unsuccessfully trying to update my itunes on my windows laptop. If i were to update it from the 'Download itunes' page on Apple website (even though I already have it) would that update it, or instead would I lose all my music?

If you are still having problems see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Update iTunes from non-Admin account?

I had to install iTunes from an admin account, but I use it from an non-admin account. When I get the message that there is a new version available, can I upgrade from the non-admin account? I don't want to try it without knowing because I don't want to corrupt anything. I'm on Windows XP.

No, you log out of you limited user account and update from an administrator account.
Personally I don't trust updating from within iTunes and I always download the installer and save it on my PC before running it.

As I am rather paranoid, I make copies of iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml before updating, do this with iTunes closed. But iTunes should make a backup of its own when updating. Unfortunately if you have to update from an account that is not your usual one, it will backup the library of the account you update from, not the one you want.
Added : Actually I may be wrong in my last point. If the backup is made when you first open iTunes and it converts the library, you may be OK. But I would make a copy anyway.
