Updating iTunes software

I'm currently working on my girlfriends macbook and one of the problems she was having was updating her iTunes to the newest version which is 10.0.1 or something like that. When i go into the itunes browser and select the "Check for updates" button, it says that 9.2.1 is the current version, where i know that it isn't. Is it because she's running Mac OS X version 10.4.11? I wouldnt think so because you are able to update the software on older platforms than what this is. Any help and advice would be amazing.

Try each of the following steps.
    Step 1
If you're trying to install more than one update, do the updates one at a time.
    Step 2
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Updates
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • I am trying to update itunes software to 10.5 but I get an error message saying to try manually installing and I try that and it still doesn't work, Help!!

I am trying to update itunes software to 10.5 but I get an error message saying to try manually installing, HELP!!!

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    Hi, Jennifer.
First, try resetting the device.  The first article will walk you through this process.  I am unsure which iPod nano you have so I will include the basic article.  From there, select your version for troubleshooting steps.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • I can't update iTunes software due to "Invalid Signature" issue

Everytime I try to update my iTunes software it says it has an "Invalid Signature" and won't be installed. For the latest big update I had to totally remove it and reinstall it from scratch.  Now I still can't update it and of course I keep getting messages telling me to update to the latest version. I am using Windows XP and have AVG Internet Security 2012 full version.  Can anyone help me with this. It may be a "settings" issue but I'm not sure which settings, ie. Windows, AVG or iTunes.  AVG have said its not their issue.
    Please help

Can you repair Apple Software Update?
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If don't find Apple Software Update in all programs, you can do it in control panel, add and remove programs.

  • I have just recently updated Itunes software on my Windows 7 Laptop purchased songs.  Logged in 3 days later and now says this copy of itunes may be corrupt or not installed correctly.  Please advise what I should do??

I have just updated my ITunes software to the latest as prompted. I purchased songs as wanted and then closed it down and have been billed accordingly.  Since trying to open ITunes again.  I have been met with the message saying This version of Itunes may be corrupted or not installed properly.  Reinstall I Tunes.
Please advise what has happened and what I need to do (using windows 7)

Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
    Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", and click "Change". Select "Repair" and click "Next" as per the following screenshot:

  • Updated iTunes software & ITunes Updater and now cannot sync iPod

I was requested to update my iTunes software and install the iTunes updater, which I accomplished. Now when I go to sync up my iPod I get the following error message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to be closed, We are sorry for the inconvenience" It will not allow iTunes to remain open or sync with my iPod. It didn't happen prior to installing the updater. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hard to believe an update did this!! I had the exact problem-updated my iPod & iTunes software & iTunes was crashing whenever I hooked up the iPod-"unclicking" all of my purchased music did the trick! THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH FOR THAT TIP-I'M SURE I WOULD'VE STILL BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM!!
Wish I hadn't restored factory settings first since I would have at least still had my piles of PURCHASED music on the iPod-I accidentally had ONE purchased song checked off to update the iPod & it crashed all over again-glad it was easy enough to figure out which song wasn't from my cd collection that I uploaded! Does anyone have any idea how this will be handled? It seems that money should be refunded for buying these songs for Apple products that, upon the company's instructions to upgrade, can no longer be played on the hardware they're specifically designed for! Or at least they're hopefully coming up with a new upgrade to solve the problem! Very irritating situation!

  • My iBook G4 won't update iTunes - Software Update says no updates found

OS X 10.4.11 - when I open iTunes it says that the new version is available but then when software update comes up, it says there are no updates. Can iTunes be updated further on my iBook or do I need to upgrade the OS?

iTunes 9.1.1 is as far as you can go with V10.4.11.
You need to upgrade to Leopard v10.5 in order to update iTunes.
Make sure your iBook meets Requirements for Mac OS X v10.5

If you did all the below action then it appears y have a hardware problem as they say is possible. In that case
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
