Updating iwork09

I am trying to update iWork 09 from my current 08 version. I cannot proceed because I am get an alert that says "An eligible Keynote application was not found in the location/Applications/iWork 09'.
How do I proceed??

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Instalation DVD with Leopard+iWork09+iLife09 and latest updates

I want to install original leopard DVD + iWork09 + iLife09 then apply all updates my mac and from this point make a new installation DVD for future reinstallation's on this machine.
is this possible or not ? If yes how?
    best regards,
    Paulo

Your question was answered in the first reply. The answer is no, & it still applies if you exclude iWork 09 & iLife 09 & their updates. This is not just because of DVD capacity limitations. It is also because the installer DVD runs a number of checks on its contents, which would fail if you replace any of its installer packages with newer ones, & because the various packages are associated with "preflight," "postflight," & other script processes that would have to be changed as well.
IOW, the installer DVD doesn't just install a preset list of files; it goes through a complex process of checking, assembling, linking, & configuring the OS as it installs it, including creating default preference & other files appropriate for the target Mac.
It would not be impossible to alter everything involved to include the updated changes, but it would require a careful study of the interdependencies of the packages & scripts, modifying them as needed, creating new checksums, & so on -- basically, re-authoring the whole DVD. With tens of thousands of individual files being installed, this would not be quick or easy to do, & given the frequency of update releases, the results would not be worth it.
As suggested, a much more practical approach is to clone a freshly installed & updated startup drive -- IOW, to copy the end result of the installation process.
As for reinstalling the OS to get rid of whatever degradation of its performance occurs over time, assuming the file system & hardware are healthy, all you might need to do is empty the caches from time to time. Some of them grow quite large & there is a small performance penalty associated with the need to sort through some of them to get the appropriate cached data. However, since cached data speed up day-to-day use, you should not do this very often, at most a few times a year, or the result will be a net loss of responsiveness as the caches are repeatedly recreated & filled with needed data.
Also keep in mind that the net performance gain from 'cleaned' caches is small, so if you are seeing significant degradation of performance over time, you probably have some specific problem that needs to be addressed directly, rather than by the "nuclear" solution of reinstalling the OS.

  • IWork09 crashes after installing 9.2 update for ML

    Hi guys,
Since one week now my iWork09 is crashing when I try to launch it. I get an Error " check whether your version of iWork is compatible with this OS"
Here are the steps which led to this:
    -  keynote, pages and numbers' are in the  iwork09 folder in the Application folder
    - recently I upgraded to ML by doing a complete erase and install of ML on my 17"MacBook pro (2008/09) running Lion.
    - I have made a new user/admin account with ML (had diff user acc for Lion)
    - Restored  iWork09 folder from time machine backup.
    - tried to install 9.2 update for iWork's, but software update couldn't detect it.
    - Downloaded 9.2update manually...installed it(don't know where?)
Tried launching keynote, pages and numbers and got the error.
To find a fix for this I checked the forum at apple and other sites on the internet and here is what I have tried so far:
1- As I couldn't update iWork's 09 thru software update. I erased iWorks09 folder from the application folder, other iWork09 content from application support folder-rebooted. Checked/deleted again for any remaining .plist files.
2- Again restored iworks09 from time machine.
3- ran disk utility for repair permission and rebooted.
4- launched App Store and ran software update. Luckily! App store showed the iWork's09, 9.2 update
    - downloaded the update, restarted my Mac and when i double click on keynote, pages or numbers, I get the SAME error about check the compatibility??
I have done the uninstall/re-install 2 times so far and still can't launch iWork. I don't understand where am I going wrong or how to FIX this.
I would appreciate if any of you guys can help.
(I do not have the iWork install disk with me,  AND iWork 09 works fine without any problem with CC 10.7.8 Lion backup)
    Thank you.

I think, you are right. But the problem is my iWork installer disk is left back
In Switzerland and i am in India right now. I don't think i can get hold of it anytime soon.
Is there any other option to fix this?
Does this mean, I will have to buy iWork's again from the
App Store? But, i am just qurious to know,  how did so many other guys..who had previously bought
iWork's disk manage  to install it on ML? I mean does everybody has the iWork's disk
    With them?
I have read in the forum here, many guys did uninstall/re-install and
got it fixed? I mean, how can someone keep track of install disk which
was bought way back in 2003/4 maybe? (Not sure)
Anyways, thanks Gary.  I appreciate it.

  • Keynote update error iwork09

    I recently updated manually the Keynote update. I have iwork 09 version 5.0.4 (633). So i wanted to get the recent version. There were couple of things that were not right;
1- I downloaded the update package (9.0.5) for iwork 09, it never showed as a part of "apple autoup dates
2- As i tried to install the pkg, it gave me an error
" An eligible Keynote application was not found in the location /Applications/iWork '09."
3- Was not able to update. My iwork is registered with appleand i have the box as well.
4- I do not have an apple care plan, so what should be done?
    Thanks

You need to make sure that all iWorks applications +(Pages, Keynote and Numbers)+ are in the Applications folder in a folder titled iWork '09. If they are not then the Software Update won't find them in need of updating and your updater won't work. You need to create a folder titled iWork '09 +(make sure it is exact)+ and then try the update again.

  • Please help Update me after a 2 year COMA - Crash Course from the experts!

I basically have been in a COMA for the past 2+ years and in 2006 was part of an Elite group of Tech Support - Research and Review team that also served as "Crash Test Dummies" for Mac and various related software, Quark, Adobe, InDesign. Then I went 'brain dead' and the company I worked for and collegues are scattered.
I was know as an Excel Goddess. I was up on the latest "known issues" related to MAC/PC converted files and could save many others wasted time trying to work around a 'known issue'.
I'm going back to college for an Associates Degree for Computer Information Technology to go along with the 25 years experience I have - I started at NCR in '79 when mainframes were the size of refridgerators. I grew up with computers - the languages - glitches and software pms unknown promlems.
I have a iMac G3 with AppleWorks 6.4 I believe. From what research I have done it seems the brilliant idea of BootCamp/Conversion via parrarells was a waste of time for a lot of IT people.
My Question is this - would I be doing ok purchasing a refurbished Mac [AIR?] with wireless / bluetooth included and should I forget about AppleWorks/MS Office and just get the iWork09 and kinda relearn the tricks and tips from reading?
Thank you so much - I want to update but I feel so far behind. I truly appreciate your opinions.
    Sincerely,
    JDNoble79

iWork is a fairly decent medium power collection of tools. But in the professional and academic worlds the MS Office collection is king of the hill. This will become especially true when exchanging files and data. If Excel is used in classes, then there is no acceptable substitute.
I spent 40 years in business and academia so I'm not mistaken in the recommendation. iWorks is simply not a substitute for Office. Since the OP is planning on returning to college he/she should have the tools that colleges and universities use almost 100%.

  • Updated pages today but when I try to open a document I created I get a message saying you need new version, but i have the new version! So frustrating - HELP!

Updated Pages today - created a document. Went back few hours later to send it as email attachment - got a message saying Pages needs to be updated to open. Went to Mac app page and it said it was updated. Document won't open - what do I do???? Keeps saying to upgrade but it is upgraded - ARGH!

    Here is a possible solution.
You should still have Pages 4.3, the old version, on your computer in Applications>iWork09. If you have the old Pages 4.3 running when you open the file, Pages 4.3 will warn you that you need to update because the new Pages uses a different file format. You can open the file in two ways.
Quit Pages 4.3, then open the file.
Right-click the file and choose to open the file in Pages 5.0.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can't update my macbook! HELP please!!

I have installed the 10.5.2 version and I've been trying to update my mac with the combo update but when it starts installing an error window appears.
It says I don't have the access privileges but I'm the administrator and the only account so I should have allowed every access.. Please help me I can't install iwork09 and ilife09 if I don't work this out...

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Instead of updating from the combo update, go to the Apple Menu () and click Software Update.
Also, run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • Problems with iwork09 opening on my new macbookair

I have a problem with opening iwork09 on my new mac book air. I didnt purchase it online, i had the installing CD and it worked great on my old mac, now I moved it from the old one to the new one and even after the update, when I try to open the pages or numbers, the window pops up saying what you can see on the pic.. any suggestions?
    Thanks,m

    What version is Pages now?
    The latest version is 4.3
And how did you transfer iWork from the old to the new Mac? Migration Assistant does not do a good job of transfering the iWork Apps.
You need to install from scratch and update that.

Iwork09 pages program disappeared from computer.  Reinstalled using supplied disk but I get an error message to check updates.  Updates are complete. Why can't I open existing docs. or create new ones.  This program has always worked before.

This doesn't make much sense. Can you explain exactly what's happening when you start Pages?

  • Installing Mavericks & keeping iWork09 file association

I have ML/iWork 09 and I am installing Mavericks.  What's the best way to keep files associated with iWork 09?
The apps are in the /Applications/iWork09 so hopefully Mavericks will not overwrite them.  My plan is to either
    1. After installing Mavericks, go to a pages file and enter the full path to iWork09/Pages.app plus "change all"
    or
    2. Rename iWork09/Pages.app -> iWork09/Pages09.app and repeat 1.
I had similar problems with iLife when upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion (if I remeber correctly).  Turned out iPhoto09 and iPhoto11 easily coexisted but not the iMovies.  I could never use iMovie09 again. That's because of some details (app sigantures of imovie apps were identical I think).
Back to the new iWork, any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for advice, I will certainly not update.  I experimented with Numbers (which I do not use or need) and it created a mess.
I have CD-iWork 09. Used to get updates through Software Update, but only in Lion.  Apple orphaned CD-iWork 09 in ML.  The App Store - iWork 09 was considerd to be a separate program in ML, and I did not buy it. The button in the App Store said "buy $20" or so.  Thus there was no confusion which program was being updated, as there were no updates.
After installed Mavericks, there were NO Pages, Numbers, or Keynote in /Applications. Only the old ones in /Applications/iWork09.  However, the 3 programs showed up in App Store updates, with an "update" button next to them, but not under "purchases".  Also, I located them in the App Store, and the only option was "update", not "download".
So, unlike ML, Mavericks decided that AppStore-Numbers-3 is an update to CD-Numbers-2.3 and I am entitled to an update.  So I updated it.  But when I opened iWork09/Numbers.app, it was still 2.3.   However, the modified date changed to the download time.
So far, no complaints. It's actually good that it did not overwrite the old app. Maybe it just touched iWork09/Numbers.app to get things in sync.  Then I look again in the app store, and now it did say "download" next to Numbers.  This put Numbers-3 in /Applications.  Also, Numbers showed up in the App Store purchases.
So everything worked out fine? Not really. this is what I see in the App Store updates now. Keeps prompting me to update. Already did it once, it was happy for a while, only to come up with a new "update button".

  • Cant get Updated without crashing comp..!?!?

Its been almost 2 weeks for me and this problem with no problems before this for a year or so....
It all started when I updated to 10.5.8 I am assuming i did something to corrupt the D/L and it gave me an error message and crashed the comp. I would get the spinning gears/grey/blue flickering screen at startup. I then called Apple and they gave me the Boot from CD_ROM command (Hold C until spinning gears... etc) and told me how to try and save my info with the save user setting option. I tried this just to get another error part way through. I checked the CD to make sure it was ok (it was) and tried to re-boot it... I tried to re-try the steps and it would only allow me to re-format, I then instead went into the disk utilities and checked permissions as well as my hd i got errors on both so I had no choice but to format my HD I did this with the Zero-Out option and then checked permissions and HD and both were able to be repaired. The OS Installed ok and I thought I was in the clear, minus loosing all of the photographs of my son and Other important files, oh well my fault for not backing up Needless to say this was just the beginning, since I have tried updating it in every way and combination I can think of for example I have tried manually D/Ling, auto updating, auto updating one at a time has been almost successful starting with the OS Combo it froze up on me at the last one (Quicktime). They will either be successful or fail in the beginning stage but mostly I get problems at the last part of the install where it is in the screen without the dock and finder. I also have ran into my Finder not starting after I thought I had them all installed, this also made it impossible to de-activate the updates since I couldn't open the Software update from the apple menu or system preferences. I currently am running the Barebones (just the OS installed) no problems I have recently purchased iWork09 as well as iLife09 and they need the more recent updates to properly work.... What could this problem be? or How can I fix it I think I have tried a lot of different updating combos but had no success. Its been 12 days since it initially went down and I dont know much about Macs as I was Raised on PCs
Oh yeah I forgot to mention I have disconnected any extra Hardware I had (Printer, USB Hub, Ext.HD...etc.)
    Thank you Kindly

Thank you for your help I have had errors in the Disk Utility as well as at one point it could see the HD but wouldn't allow me to access anything almost like it wasn't there, I kept trying and eventually it found it again at it has said the SMART was verified as well as said it wasn't, I Have had sibling errors and permission errors and heiarchy errors But then sometimes i do it and everything is good I cant make any sence of it all because Its so off of the map at one point i couldn't find the HD in the main program so i plugged in my EXT HD and all of a sudden it found the main one again... I am thinking my HD has kicked the bucket or is kicking the bucket... How do i go about installing a new one or is there a better HD Utility program I can purchase? Problem is, is that at this point I am not even sure If I could install one without messing up the whole OS (Leopard) Is there a specific order I should be downloading these updates in? I have been trying to install my OS on the EXT HD but in the install dialogue It says I have to re-partition as 'GUID Partition Table' any idea how to do that? I tried repartitioning from disk utility and had no success at that ... well I did partition it but it still wouldn't allow me to install it Its almost been 3 weeks I have searched through this forum looking for any previous threads to solve my problem but It seems Like I am experiencing various of the problems that some users have just not all at once... Its really weird I now have lost all info and very important files trying to fix this... so for me to archive and install is pointless since no longer have anything to loose... (Besides I tried that initially when I did have files that were important still and got an error half way through causing me to have to re-format :P )

  • Update pages 5 is a catastrophy

Apple cancelled a lot of usefull elments in the update. The new pages is useless for our work in the office now. it's for free now - but useless. You can't import adresses anymore. Pages was a perfet product an easy to use.
So going back to microsoft word and office products...

    Yes!
You can still use Pages 4 even if you don't delete Pages 5. All the iWork '09-applications are still in the program folder (Applications > iWork09) and can be opened. I'll do that.
You are not alone in your opinion as you probably see here in the community.
