Updating Lightroom from 3 to 5

I am thinking of upgrading my lightroom from lightroom 3 ...how difficult is it ? and wwhat are the changes i will have to worry about, does all my data/folders/catalogs have to be changed too

Lightroom 5 will convert your existing catalog, but the conversion is saved as a new catalog. Your existing Lightroom 3 installation will remain intact and usable just as it is now. If you're that concerned, download the Lightroom 5 trial version and use it for 30 days and see what you think. The transition was completely painless for me. Nothing was lost. Since you are moving from Lightroom 3 there will be a process version change to deal with. All of your existing images will remain in process version 2010 with sliders just as you see them in Lightroom 3. New imports will have the process version 2012 sliders and they are different. And you can switch between the two versions. Just a couple of things to be aware of but it isn't anything to be afraid. It just gives you more flexibility.

  • Updating Lightroom from ole version and OS to new LR 5 CC on Mac OS 10.8.5

I decided to pull the triger on Creative Cloud and to do so had to finally upgrade from Mac OS 10.4.11 to OS 10.8.5. I kept a boot versuion of the old OS on a separate internal  hard drive just in case.
I've used Lightroom for years and continuously upgraded without problems. I have an extensive catalog (I'm a professional phtotographer) that lives on a dedicated internal hard drive. I want to use Lightroom 5 CC but can't find any instructions for how to update the old catalog so the new version of Lightroom running in the new OS sees it. . The old catalog will not open in LR 5 CC I moved a copy of LR 4 onto the OS 10.8.5 boot drive but it will no open. Any thoughts? I am stumped.

  • Develop/Map model disabled when updating Lightroom from disk

    Hello,
I got a disk for Lightroom 5.2 and entered the product key after instillation.  However, when updating to 5.7 the develop and map models become deactivated and it says I must renew my membership.  I regestered my product key with Adobe.com and re-installed but the error persists.  Am I not able to upgrade my Lightroom even though I own a disk with the program?
Has anyone run into this issue before or familiar with what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Trouble updating Lightroom from 3.3 to 3.4

Since the update to 3.4 first came out officially, I have been trying to update from 3.3.  I download the file, open it, chose the install it into my HD, it goes through the installation process and indicates that it has done so successfully.  However, my Lighroom STILL says 3.3 and occasionally informs me that there is an update available to 3.4.
I have tried installing with Lighroom open, closed, restarted, computer restarted, the whole nine yards.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong?
    I'm on Mac OSX 10.6.7
    Thank you in advance.

    Boom!   You got it!!!!
I thought that I had tried this, but remember now that when I went to check , I still had the 3.3 RC and got sidetracked by deleting it and never opened the actual program.   Funny thing is that this has never been the case with a previous update.
    Thanks for your help, Hai!!!!

  • I have just updated Lightroom from 5.5 to 5.6.  On startup I now get a message saying it can't load my catalog because "Lightroom catalogs cannot be opened on...removable storage". Of course my catalog is on removable storage, because thats how I want to

Either this is a crap change to the program, or I'm stupid.  Which is it?

    Have you tried anything?
Like moving your catalog to an internal hard disk to see if you can open it there?
Maybe try moving it to a different external drive (even a thumb drive) and see what happens..
I mean, lotsa people open catalogs on removable storage with Lr5.6, so you might have to try stuff to shake it out..

  • Updating problems from Lightroom 5.5 to 5.6

i tried to update Lightroom from 5.5 to 5.6 but when it says "updating component registration" I keep getting the error message "Key not valid for use in specified state."  To make matters worse, the updater has already removed Lighroom 5.5 so I don't even have the program on my computer at all!  I tried to re-download it and re-install Lightroom 5.0, but I get the same error message, and I don't even have a chance to put in my product key.  this is very frustrating and I have no idea why this would have happened.

I don't know for sure, but I imagine it has to do with Adobe's method of gradually notifying people of the upgrade to keep their servers from getting flooded. If all the hundreds of thousands of accounts where constantly checking to see if new programs where available every minute of every day, that would be some serious overhead. They probably do something like "check once daily at midnight to see if new versions of PS, LR, IL, DW, etc are available and notify the user".

  • Problem updating Lightroom?

I just tried to update Lightroom from the Creative Cloud updater. The updater only offered to install Lightroom 5, not update.  Now when I try to open Lightroom by clicking on the icon nothing happens.  I had the same problem when first updating at the time of the initial release of Photoshop 2014.  At that time I had to manually install Lightroom 5.

Before I installed LR 5.6, I took the opportunity to uninstall PS CC (it was just hanging around unused, as I was using PS CC 2014). To do so, I uninstalled PS CC (and deleted that version's preferences), PS CC 2014 (kept its preferences), Bridge CC (kept its preferences) and LR 5.5. I used Creative Cloud to install PS CC 2014, Bridge CC, and LR 5.6. PS and Bridge installed and operated exactly as expected. LR 5.6 appeared to install as it should, but double-clicking the icon on the desktop would not open the program - exactly as you describe.
I downloaded the stand-alone installer for LR 5.6 and launched it. I was offered the opportunity to Repair or Uninstall LR 5.6. I chose Repair, but sadly that didn't improve the situation any. I then used Windows 7 Control Panel to uninstall LR 5.6, and rebooted the PC. Finally, I ran the stand-alone LR 5.6 installer, and everything now operates as it should - for me.

This is a fairly in-depth tutorial on moving from one computer to another.(I recommend Option 1)

Also, there's no need to find the original disk for installation.  Just download the latest update of your purchased version from here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and user your original serial number.

I updated Lightroom to version 6 from 5.6, and now it won't open.  I have tried un-installing it and re-installing it and nothing.  I then uninstalled 5.6 to see if that would help (shouldn't this have disappeared after the update??), and nothing.  Please help.

Also, I did the install after I updated CC and then I did try re-starting my computer.
