Updating mac pro 10.4.11

Hi folks.
I have a question:
can I update my version 10.4.11 to a higher version and if yes how?
Also, I am a little novice....and I do not know if mac pro 10.4.11 uses tiger or leopard.
Please advise.
Thanks

The only updates to 10.4.11 (which is Tiger) are Security Updates.

  • After update Mac Pro boots to grey screen with Kernel Panic. Help please.

It would be great if someone can help me out. Yesterday I did a software update of iTunes and osx (it said to ease update to Lion) and now my Mac Pro tower (MacPro3,1) boots to a grey screen, kernel panic, telling me that I need to power down and restart my machine. I can boot into osx via the safe mode but unfortunately I don't have an install disk to repair the system disk. What are my options?
The machine appears to work in safe mode. I have tried resetting the PRAM. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
In safe mode, I get this error report.

and here is my system software overview once I have booted into osx in safe mode.
    System Software Overview:
      System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
      Kernel Version: Darwin 10.8.0
      Boot Volume: System
      Boot Mode: Safe
      Computer Name: qdise’s MacPro3,1
      User Name: q2dise (dty61)
      Secure Virtual Memory: Not Enabled
      64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No
      Time since boot: 16 minutes

There's no point in reinstalling the same driver. It hasn't changed. It's incompatible with the OS update. Contact the device manufacturer to see if there's a driver update. In the meantime, you should physically remove the device so the driver doesn't load. If you uninstall the driver and leave the device installed, that might also cause a panic.

  • Need to update Mac Pro drivers without graphics card.....

I have a 1.1 Mac Pro. The ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card that came with it is completely broken. I am trying to replace it with a ATI Radeon HD5770 which should be compatible, however as I have never really updated my OS (unfortunately I cant remember which OS it has on it at the moment, it's the one that came with it) I don't think I have the neccessary drivers. Any ideas of how I can update the drivers without haveing to buy another graphics card? If it's any help I also have a Macbook Pro. Thanks in advance.

5770 cards require one 6-pin Aux power cable from the motherboard to the card. Aftermarket cards do not always include it, but it MUST be connected.
That is a PC-BIOS card flashed with Apple Firmware. In general, such cards do NOT show the Boot Screens or any diagnostic screens. The first screen you see will be the login screen, or if you auto-login, the desktop.
The seller says It will show the Boot Screens ONLY if you connect an Analog VGA display (with adapter) to the lower DVI-I port.
Drivers for accelerated operation of this card are included with custom 10.6.4 shipped with certain Mac Pros, and in standard 10.6.5 and later. All appropriate Drivers are already included in Mac OS X -- there is no need to install them later, and no way to do so since they will not work in older versions.
Official information lists the Mac OS X that shipped originally with your Mac Pro 1,1 as 10.4.7, but it may have been as late as 10.5. These are not likely to work with that card. You would probably need to purchase a 10.6 DVD from the Apple online store, about US$30.
Most Users who are not developers would be better served with a genuine Apple card, which would show a picture from power-on. But it costs close to US$250.

  • Updating Mac Pro 1.1 2006 to run 10.8.x?

I have decided to take my old Mac Pro 1.1of sept 2006 as far as I can and even if I can not get a better video card in it  than the ATI 4870 it now has I will retire it to use with Appiture and photoshop.
As seen in the other thread I started this morning I have some problems with the prep work before my extra 16 gig of ram (for a total of 20gig) and 960 gig crucial 500 SSD new boot drive arrive from amazon tomorrow
This is the way it is right now
is there anyway to run OS X 10.8.x on this machine and if so where do I find it here in support? All that is on the AppStore is mavericks which I guess will never run on this antique

I have this question too (0) Reply Categories: Expanding the Mac Pro  Tags: mac, pro, old, updating

Sort of makes it easier (on me, maybe others) when - if possible - there aren't multiple over lapping threads... they do tend to revolve around similar issues.
You would have to look on various other sites and forums for help on how to - to me there is always "why" other than driver support for better graphic cards.
Isolating scratch and editing from t he system would have suggested the 960GB on Sonnet Tempo Pro SSD PCIe card (they only rcommend/support the Pro card due to issues, on the 2006). You could then put an SSD using the ODD SATA ports. Or stock SATA II drive bay. And a pair of 480GB on Sonnet Pro in RAID0 for scratch.
Aperture library should / could also go on the Sonnet Pro card where it benefits the most. you get more and better performance when I/O can be using multiple channels and bus (the new Mac Pro 6,1 though is so fast you can put everything on t he 1TB SSD-PCIe).
    RAM: 4 FBDIMMs 4 x 4GB is ideal, next would be 4 x 4GB plus 4 x 2GB (and 4 x 2GB on Amazon is $50).
You didn't see these FBDIMMs which are dirt cheap for Mac Pro (2 x 4GB $48 set)
    http://www.amazon.com/Komputerbay-PC2-5300F-Buffered-FB-DIMM-Heatspreaders/dp/B0 05HIWD5U/
Sonnet Tempo Pro SSD PCIe on Amazon was around $270 but now back up to $299.
    Allegro $49: http://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-USB2-E-Allegro-5-Port-Express/dp/B000MUSQGS
10.7.5 can work with some GTX 6xx cards I think I've seen Kappy and/or others mention doing so, but without early video out boot screen. I don't feel the need or driven to Mavericks or Mountain Lion, not with the 1,1.
My 1,1 for now: video 16x slot / Sonnet Tempo Pro 8x slot / Sonnet Allegro USB3 4x slot

  • Newest Mac Pro

Is this (the Mac Pro Early 2009) the newest Mac Pro that Apple has released up until now? I am thinking of buying one but do not know if I should buy one now or wait for a new updated Mac Pro. Please Help.

    Can't go wrong here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/mac_pro
And Friday evening is a good time (they seem to refresh and update) but yes, the last three years have seen March refresh of the Mac Pro line also.
However, depending on your needs, other than hoping for ATI 5000 graphics or something... there is a lot to be said for "tried and true" and mature, rather than bleeding edge new.
Just make sure your hardware and software is ready for 10.6.2+ and you can outfit it (RAM and hard drives can be added later but Apple's price on RAM has been good due to rising costs).

  • Unable to download pics from icloud to Mac Pro

Just updated Mac Pro to Mountain but cannot download pics from icloud. Is MobileMe required?

MobileMe is closed and has no relevance to anything. iCloud provides 'PhotoStream' but this is purely a conduit which automatically transfers pictures taken on one device onto all the others which are signed in in iPhoto or Aperture - you can't manually download photos. There is also a very basic photo gallery in the form of 'Photo Stream' which is populated only from iPhoto for iOS, not from a Mac.
If you are trying to access pictures which were in your MobileMe Gallery, these have now been deleted. It's probable that you also have these photos on your Mac, synced with the online gallery in iPhoto or Aperture, but if you don't have the picture on your Mac I'm afraid they are lost.

  • Indesign extremly slow (Mac Pro)

    Hi all,
my InDesign is very slow since i have updated from CS 4 to CS 5.5.
It seems to be pretty slow when i place some PDF into the .indd.
Also in low-quality settings it was incredibly slow and the cpu-usage
was far over 100%. How can this be?
I have tested the System in 32 and 64bit-mode.
    System specs:
    Adobe CS 5.5 (latest updates)
    Mac Pro 3,1
    Dual-Quadcore 3 Ghz
    10 GB Ram
    NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GT
    OS X 10.6.8 (latest upates)
I hope there is a solution.
InDesign is also pretty slow on my PC.
    i5-3570K
    DD3-2133MHz
    Ati HD-7950
    edit:
I have changed one settings now in InDesign.
While moving an object i cant see the content now
in real-time. This is a performance gain.
But i still wonder how bad the InDesign-engine is.
While my computer is able to render a complex
3D-scene in an amazing fps-count, InDesign
has huge cpu-load with some flat 2d stuff.

The speed of the application can be related to many things, including:
    RAM
    Live pre-flight running
    Live spell check running
    Display set to High
    Other applications running
    OS
You mention waiting for an update for Mavericks - there are already a few threads in this forum about issues with Mavericks - check them out.

  • Mac Pro - Config Questions

In anticipation of a newly updated Mac Pro line and in anticipation of me purchasing my first ever Mac Pro, having already had 2 iMacs, I was wanting to get some input from you fine folks here and tell me what is working well and perhaps even some hints on what to get and buy from in regard to RAM, internal hard drives and graphics cards, if there are some other options for graphic cards where I can save some money.

Sorry about leaving out my use of the Mac Pro.
I do plan on using 3rd party hard drives, RAM, etc and from all the reading I have been doing I AM planning on letting Apple install the bluetooth and wireless card for me since everyone points out it is tough to do on your own, etc. I was mainly wanting to know what 3rd party RAM and hard drives were working out for some of you, specify brand names if you would.
I will be using it to record music via Logic Pro 8, play games via Bootcamp and also work on video editing, capturing...so a bit of it all really and pictures of course.
How is the sound card in the Mac Pro by the way? I am finding that I am getting a bit of noise coming out of my analog output when playing the one game I like to play on the Windows side and a bit of crackle out of some tracks recorded on LP8. I am assuming the sound card is a bit better and of better quality than the one in the non-aluminum verison iMac? If it is the same, are you able to install sound cards such as the Creative X-Fi line as you can with PC's? I had an X-Fi Music card for my PC and it was nice sounded better than the onboard motherboard sound that I had on my VAIO.

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update"  It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

  • Ive got a Mac Pro bought seconf hand, It doesn't allow me to update as the username is blocked to the previous owner, it appears off and can't change it, the box goes directly to password. I have changed the computer username and password but the problem

Ive got a Mac Pro 2010, bought second hand through eBay. When it comes to update the software, the username is blocked to the previous owner. It appears off and the box goes directly to password. I have tried to reset then to log in in apple store with my login but didn't help. I would appreciate any tips to sort it out
    Thanks fellas

That machine did not ship with Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8), so that means the copy of Mountain Lion on the machine was purchased by the former owner and is non-transferable. It is permanently linked to his/her Apple ID, so you cannot update or reinstall it.
What you need to do (which the seller should have done for you) is reinstall the original system that that machine came with. I believe that would be Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6). What you need to do is reinstall that system from the original disks. If the seller did not provide those disks, you can call Apple and get them replaced for a small shipping and handling fee.

  • Installed my logic 9.0.0 on my new mac pro, updated it to 9.1.5, it accepts my serial, but then asks me for an "original serial" that I don't have..? What should I do ?

    Please Help !
I bought Logic studio, with logic pro 9.0.0 last year, worked perfectly on my macbook pro.
Just got a new mac pro, with macos 10.7 Lion.. I install the software, serial works,
then I update the software, because 9.0.0 can't open in os 10.7, and after accepting my serial,
it asks me for an "original serial" that I have no idea about..
    sry for the english..
Please HELP, I cant survive without logic more than an hour !

I think this is a known problem with Lion and some installs of Logic, I've seen it mentioned before.

  • Problems with EFI Firmware Update to 1.5 for mid 2010 Mac Pro, and sleep issues

Hello to the community, I have run into an annoying issue.
I need to update the EFI firmware on my 8 core mid-2010 Mac Pro. I downloaded the EFI update from the apple website from here : http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1321
But everytime I download it, as I click to install, it gives me the message:
    Alert
This software is not supported on your system.
But clearly this is the correct EFI for my computer. I tried burning the Firmware restoration onto a CD from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1320
But the computer did not respond the way it said it should (with the 3 flashes/beeps etc.) and have the optical drive open for the CD.
    So I'm completely stuck.
*Also my Mac Pro had issues with sleep, when I put it to sleep, sometimes when I try to bring it back, it restarts itself, and other times, it just turns itself on and the monitor screen remains black, so I have to hit the power button to turn it off then back on again. This only happnens when the computer has been put to sleep for a slightly extended period of time, roughly 20mins +, sometimes longer.  I was trying to solve this problem by first updating the firmware because I think it could be related to that, but I've had this problem with the firmware so I couldn't find out. This is actually the bigger problem for me because it will affect my work. I am currently using an iMac while I fix up this mac pro.
I'm a music composer so I've upgraded many aspects of my system due to work. I have a 1TB Samsung 840 evo SSD, 2 seagate 2 TB HDD, and 1 WD 1TB HD (the original one in the mac pro), along with 32 GB of RAM. So my only problems are the firmaware and the weird activity when the computer is put to sleep.
Some help would be greatly appreciated!
