Updating .Mac website via Iweb

I have been creating a web site via Iweb. I plan on publishing it to my .Mac account in the next day or so. The site is of our newborn and I plan on updating it with photos often (once a week). I have been reading the chats and find that when I update the site it (iweb) will re-upload everything (thus causing me to go over the 1GB limit). Is there a quick fix or an easy workaround?
All I will be changing on the site (on a regular basis...for now) will be new photos. I will want to remove the old ones and replace with the newer ones.

Also be aware that iWeb resizes your photos, so it will take quite a while for you to hit 1GB. If my memory serves me correctly it resizes everything to a max of 800*600 pixels, creating files of >100kb (looking at my own files).
I have a couple of hundred photos on my site and I have used less than 60MB of my 1GB, loads of space left.
You could even add a new page each week

  • How do I upload PDFs to .Mac website with iWeb?

Is there a way to upload documents such as PDFs to my .Mac website with iWeb and then link to them from iWeb pages such as Blogs?
17" iMac (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Yes, there are two ways of doing it:
The efficient, "every link points to the same guy" solution is to add the PDF to your page with Insert->Hyperlink->To File..., publish it, and copy the address into all references anywhere else (blogs).
The second way is to just link those PDFs locally in each reference. This isn't as efficient space-wise as above, but considerably easier.

  • How can I update existing website with Iweb after hard disc crash?

I created my website on iweb and published it (but not at mobile me). Unfortunately my hard disc crashed, before I saved my webpage. Now I bought a new web and want to update my published website. How do I open it in my new Iweb 9 to update it?
    Thanks for your help,
    orisu

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual published html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.

  • How to actually launch website via iWeb?

    Hi,
My Wife has created a website in iWeb 09, signed up for Mobile Me but how does she actually go about publishing her site? She has also paid "123 reg" for an exclusive domain name, if she launches the site nothing comes up in Google when she searches for her site?
    Thanks.

First she needs to publish her site to MobileMe. Go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log into her MMe account.
In iWeb, click on the site folder and select Publish to: MobileMe.
Now use the Publish button at the bottom or the File ➙ Publish menu option to publish the site to her MMe account. Now you can visit her site online with this URL:
    http://web.me.com/MobileMeAccount_Name/SiteName.
To get the domain name to point to her MMe site follow the instructions in this Apple document: iWeb: Using your own domain name. If you have problems at the "123 reg" end contact their customer support.

  • Update current website with iweb!

Hi, My i mac crashed and i could not get my current web page back, coz i had to use timemashin get back privious files. How can i update iweb with my current website? please help me!
    Regards
    Mizufeb

If you have trouble finding the domain file in Time Machine you can try using  Find Any File to search your Time Machine hard drive for "Domain.sites2".  FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't, like invisible folders, packages, etc.
When you find the latest domain file in the serarch results window just drag it from that window to the Desktop.

  • Latest Security Update Cause Website Login & iWeb Publishing Error?

    Hello all and Happy Holidays!
I just did the latest Mac OS Security Update early this evening, but I was too sleepy and tried from work, that I disconnect all the peripherals, cables etc, but I forgot to pull out my firewire cable that was connected to a FireWire Hub (but no FW device was turned on at the time)
So I continued to do the update, restart and Repair Permission, have always been careful and so far nothing has "gone wrong" on my iMac.
But now I can't log into a particular Members' Webpage, keeps getting a Safari error page saying the server is not responding; Secondly, tonight I have tried at least 3 times trying to publish my latest blog entry on my iWeb, but it gives me the error message asking me to check my network connection.
I can surf, email, iTunes even download the latest podcast in the background while I am encountering these "small" problems.
    Anyone can help? Most appreciated.
Has this got to do with the Security Update?
    Thanks and cheers

Not neccesarily this particular security update, but performing any update while your firewire port was in use. Try resetting the FW port, info here, (I know it works, but resetting it might just do the trick) and see if that helps,

  • Cost of maintaining website via  iWeb '09

    Hi
I've never used iWeb before. If I buy iWeb '09 and publish my website onto the internet using iWeb, can my website me accessible forever? Or do I need to keep buying new new iWeb annually e.g. iWeb '10, iWeb '11, iWeb '12, etc?
    Please advise! Thanks.

To download iWeb updates, go to the Apple home page and then click on Support and then choose iWeb. When you get to this page on the right hand side there is a section that has Software Updates and under there are iWeb 2.0.3 and 2.0.4. Try clicking on these and seeing what happens.
The whole point of using iWeb is that you can create a blog yourself and you can add photo albums to your website and then upload it.
If you want a domain name, then you won't get it for free. You have to go somewhere like GoDaddy and purchase a domain name.
There are free hosting services, but most of them contain lots of adds and do not provide a very good service. If you want web hosting, then it is better to look around for a good deal and pay for it. Again, look at GoDaddy.
If you just want blogging without a website, then try E-blogger. You don't need a domain name for that and you can create it from anywhere directly online, which you can't with iWeb. Also, if you create your blog in iWeb and then don't publish it to MobileMe, then you loose the comment facility too.

  • I updated my website on iWeb and now my site wont work...

After I made my site on iWeb, I had to update it and now i go to my site it shows up blank white. I noticed that i try to publish it after i did some changes to the pages and it takes SOO LONG! I'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong. I contacted my hosting company and they said it has to do with iWeb.

I contacted my hosting company and they said it has to do with iWeb.
Did they explain WHAT and WHY it has to do with iWeb?
You also may want to provide the URL of your website.
Without real, verifiable, factual information it's a bit difficult to guess.
In the meantime, go to your server to see with your own eyes what is there.

  • Counter on a .Mac website using iWeb

    Hi,
I have done a few searches through the forum on Counters. There are several mentions of an "Apple Counter", but no one mentions how to get to it or set it up. I have checked in the iWeb help, and it too mentions that there is one, but no mention of where it is.
I realise this is quite a silly question, but can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Cheers
    Al

Yes, it's found in the one of the menus under "Insert..." Something to keep in mind...the counter won't work unless you are publishing to .Mac. In that case, you might need to explore a 3rd party counter like StatCounter.

  • My old mac website

How is iweb different then mobil me and it's gallery? Also, am I able to use my old mac website with IWEB?
    thanks

James ~ iWeb is a web design app used for designing web pages and publishing them to the internet. It includes some page templates specially designed for presenting photos & videos.
MobileMe Gallery is special web page published from iPhoto, iMovie or Aperture for displaying photos and videos in a more sophisticated way. A MobileMe Gallery can be embedded into an iWeb site.
Also, am I able to use my old mac website with IWEB?
If you're referring to a website made via the old .Mac HomePage app, you cannot import that website directly into iWeb. You could, however, manually drag & drop media from your .Mac HomePage site to iWeb's canvas. See this related Apple doc:

  • Updates to website after domain name change

Can I still update my website using iweb after I transition to a new domain name?

I use third party hosting to mean a company other than Apple's .Mac. I also use godaddy to host my sites and it is very simple. They will provide an address of the ftp site name for your domain. I publish from iWeb to a folder, then use Cyberduck (any FTP program will do) to upload. You don't even need the ftp program because godaddy has their own simple ftp built in to the service. They also have excellent and free technical service. You can look at my site at: http://bandb.holage.com.

  • My .mac Website not found in searches

I've just created my new .mac website using iWeb, and successfully published it.
But when I do a Google or Netscape search using my name as a search term, this newly published webpage does not show up in the search results.
What do I need to do to get greater internet recognition for my .mac website?
    gh

It really just takes time. I'd say give it a couple, maybe three, weeks for Google's spiders to find your site. After you get in their indexes, it seems that Google revisits on about a weekly basis.
It has been said that the more links that other sites have to your site, the more relevance your site will hold, but I take this with a grain of salt. Also, some people say that adding meta tags to your html files will help search engines rank your site with relevance, but I just don't see that happening. Google actually doesn't reveal their procedures, but I have seen an article where someone at Google is quoted as saying that arbitrary keyword placement and meta-tags are de-emphasized...and even discouraged.
    Just give it some time.

  • Publish website at iWeb icloud ?

    publish website at icloud ?
me.com has been closed and icloud is running,
i have icloud id, i want to publish website via iweb but its not working, not showing option to publish at icloud, please help me
    i have Macbook Pro 13''
    2.3 intel core i5
    320GB
    4GB
    Mountain Lion 10.8.2

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • Can I move my iWeb from mac-mini to my new macbook pro ? iLife 11 does not have iWeb and I really want to use it to update my website on my new macbook Pro instead of Mac mini

Can I move my iWeb from mac-mini to my new macbook pro ? iLife 11 does not have iWeb and I really want to use it to update my website on my new macbook Pro instead of Mac mini

There is no license required for iWeb.  Just do a Wyodor suggested and you'll be ready to go. If you're running Lion however, consider the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • I have updated my website, and uploaded via FTP, but some images are missing.  I have deleted them in i

I have published a website with iWeb on MobileMe quite successfully.  I purchased a second domain name, and republished the same site on GoDaddy before trying to point my MobileMe website name to the GoDaddy server. I was unable to upload several pictures to the second site, and posted my dilemma here.  It was suggested that I try using Cyberduck to publish via FTP, which I did.  I was still missing the same images. The error message says that there was a communications error with the FTP server and to try again later.  I have been able to upload several more new images to the second domain name just by using iWeb's publish feature.
I want to point my MobileMe website name, www.melissaveres.com to GoDaddy, which is now hosting www.mveres-engraver.com but it will only show the site as it is currently published, with several missing pictures.  I have tried to delete the photos in iWeb, bring them back in, and republish but with the same results.  I have contacted GoDaddy support, who can only tell me there is no file information for those open (missing) pictures, they have heard of this happening before, but had no information on how or if it was resolved.  Anyone know how to get these pictures up before I move from MobileMe?
    Melissa

Bring up the Activity window (Command+Option+A) for you site and check to see what files are missing and where they belong.  The URL for the missing files will tell  you what folder they should be in.
Then publish you website to a folder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser.  Check to verify all images and present and the site works as you want.  Then you can upload the missing files or folder containing the missing files or the eintire site folder to your GoDaddy account with Cyberduck.
