Updating metadata in PSE8 Organizer

How do I update the metadata in PSE8 Organizer. I want to update author, City, Country.
Looking at properties, metadata it only lets me "Look" at the information.
also can the metadata be changes on several pictures at one time.(Selecting several Pictures)
Thanks

The Organizer only lets you update the date/time, caption, notes, star rating, GPS location, and keyword tags.  You can't change any other metadata fields.   You can change more fields using File > File Info in the Editor, but that's tedious, and forces you to recompress JPEGs.
You'll need to get a third-party tool such as Microsoft's Pro Photo Tools (there are many others).

  • How to refresh tags in PSE8 Organizer

If I update a tag or change a rating, outside of the Elements Organizer, for example in CS4 Bridge, Windows Explorer or a photo editor, how can I get the PSE8 Organizer to recognise the updated IPTC information? Can I get it to re read the file information without re-importing it?
    Peter

    Thanks for this.
I've just done a few tests and I see that, when I update the thumbnail, the caption is updated but the star rating is not updated.
I find the whole system of not writing out the metadata to the image, unless requested, and there being no way to update certein metadata, other than re-import somewhat unsatisfactory. I suppose that this is the downside of using a database to hold the information.

  • PSE8 Organizer does not display the miniatures (less than 1%)

    Hello,
As indicated above, when I launches PSE8 Organizer the photos of the collection are not displayed as miniatures. Instead I get waiting hourglasses. Activating the menu 'Update the miniatures' doesnot change anything.
    Can somebody haelp me?
Thanks, I apologize for my english

Does this mean the problem has returned like mine did Lamarckjohn?
As I haven't got to the bottom of the problem yet and my pc is mid-rebuild for the 2nd time I HOPE you are OK...
We must keep in touch as we seem to have the same issue, (though mine did seem to spread and give other registry issues the more I tried to fix it).  Dell have asked me to run the pc without Adobe for a month to see if that isolates the issue....
I think this must be raised with Adobe....I'll give them the link to your threads too, to show I am not alone.
Good luck and please update us on your progress.

  • PSE8 Organizer not automatically reading media card

    Hi,
I have a client that is using PSE8 Organizer and all of a sudden it has stopped reading the media card automatically. My client believes this happened after an update by Adobe Updater.
They say that it used to be a simple process of placing the card in the card reader and then a window would pop up where they would select the icon / program for PSE8, however the icon was missing and when clicking this link, my client was presented with a message saying that the link was broken. I advised my client to uninstall the program and then to reinstall, which has fixed this issue i.e. the icon and back and when clicking the link there is no message.
However that is as far as it goes, the link doesn't produce any results and the media card is not read.
If my client accesses the card as a folder through PSE8 Organizer then the images are shown, but again are not automatically loaded into the application.
My client really would like the automatic function restored.
Has anyone else had this problem and knows how to resolve it please?
The machine is running Windows XP 32-bit SP3.
The only oddity I can see is that the application is installed to the external hard drive as opposed to the normal internal hard drive. Would this cause problems with the application?
    Thanks,
    CliveSRT

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have checked the setting that you mentioned and it is set to automatic. When inserting the card into the card reader we are again prompted to open the files with an application, which my client selects PSE8. However this is as far as we get as nothing else appears to happen.
    Thanks,
    Clive.

  • How to allow CS users to update metadata on several items? (UCM 10gR3)

In the UCM 10gR3 portal user interface:
It is convenient for us to allow users to update metadata fields on a group of items in one action. We want to allow users to select any number of files from a CS search result.
After selecting the items, we want to users to be able to set new values for some fields (e.g. Security Group and Document Type) without touching the values of the other metadata fields (such as Author).
This seems to be pretty basic functionality, but we cannot seem to find it in the CS user interface. What is the easiest way to do this in the CS user interface?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately freezing the metadata model is not an option in practice. While we may make a model that serves us well for the time being, we are likely to end up in a situation where the outside world invalidates our metadata model.
    A hypothetical case
    From the UCM Administration Manual:
"Choose only static information as a security group. For example, department names change infrequently, so they can be considered static; projects come and go, so they might not be considered static."
Although department names may change infrequently, they are likely to change sometimes. Sometimes departments are split up or merged.
    A real case
In our concrete case, a project will generate a large amount of content distributed over many content items. After the production of this content within the project the responsibility will be transferred to a number of different departments. It is thus impossible to know in advance which metadata model will be suitable and it seems that the archiver is inefficient in solving the problem of delegating the content to different security groups.
Obviously, we are not interested in making heavy customization that we need to maintain. And reassigning the security group of many content items individually is not a feasible solution.
Has anyone had similar needs? What solutions have you used?

  • Updating metadata

    Hi guys,
I have a big problem here and I need help. Its getting very urgent! I am trying to find the best way to update the metadata in Hyperion 11.1.1.3. I am actually creating a cube that will be using for reporting only. That cube must be updated very frequently to follow the structural changes in the company. It will be use as a reporting utility for the moment so I will have all the data in there. My problem is that everytime I am creating a profile to update the flat file for account metadata, I am creating shared members where there are changes in the structure. When I am loading my profile, instead of replacing the old accounts and creating the new ones, the system creates a shared member at one place and leave the old member where it was. The problem with these shared members is that the value of the member is double count so it causes me lots of problems when its time to analyse the data.
Does anyone can suggest me a way to update metadata frequently while avoiding the shared member problem?
    Thanks for your suggestions!
    Cheers!

We are rolling out 11.1.1.3 on February 14, and are having the exact same issue. The "replace" option does not actually replace the dimension--hence, the shared member problem. Oracle said that the latest patches would resolve this issue, but we applied the latest EPMA patches with no resolution. I have an open support case with them right now.
We are loading from the interface tables, but if you are loading from a flat file--you can use the "IsPrimary" property to prevent a second member (shared) from coming in.

  • Request: Ability to update metadata via spreadsheet view or csv file upload

A fairly simple change to make Muse more efficient and user-friendly.
I'm in the process of building out a medium size site for a client (90+ pages) - my first experience using Muse - and editing metadata is a pain. I've planned the site: page titles, descriptions, page names, etc, but updating metadata isn't the first step in my creation process and now I'm going back through updating information. My have a 2013 Mac Pro and 2013 Macbook Pro and both systems take time to update this information with so much data buffering and being updated.
    My request:
The ability to update metadata across a site without the changes being executed until we applied the changes. For example, changing site view to a spreadsheet view with each pages information. Then, I could update a bunch of pages and hit enter, and walk away while it takes 5 minutes to update. This would also eliminate the hassle of requesting page properties from each page separately.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Bridge locks briefly when updating metadata on large PSD files

When updating metadata on a large PSD file, Bridge "locks" up for a brief period of time. This is apparently when it's rewriting that large PSD file to update the metadata. I'd like to be able to use Bridge in an uninterrupted fashion while metadata is updated in the background. This normally works for smaller files, just not on large PSD files. You can reproduce this easily by just adding a keyword to a couple 100MB PSD files.
    --John

    Chris,
How large are the PSD files? If they are over 400MB, I think I know what's wrong.
Bridge has a file-size preference, and won't process files that are larger than your setting. You'll find this preference on the Thumbnails panel in the Bridge Preferences dialog. The default is 400MB--try bumping it up to a size larger than your largest PSD and then purge the cache for the folder containing those PSDs.
If that does not work, I'd like to have a copy of one of the PSDs that is not working for you.

  • The 'Update Metadata' icon displays even after saving metadata

After upgrading from v3 to v4.3, I opened my catalog (Lightroom made a copy of the file and converted it for v4.3). I didn't do anything to the images, but noticed several displayed the 'Update Metadata' icon. (I should note the 'update metadata automatically' option in the preferences is turned off to save ROM.)
Since I update the metadata manually, it's possible I forgot to save these several files — but when I try to save them, the icon persistently returns within seconds, or when I scroll away and come back.
I'm running an iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and 165 GB of disc space. The Lightroom files are on an external drive, and the images are DNGs.

    rjmooreii wrote:

For DNG the best solution is to run the 'Update DNG Preview and Metadata' command, which can be found under the Metadata menu. This method builds a completely new DNG file before removing the old file.
As to the cause - two known at present:
    1. Auto Exposure or Lens corrections, and
    2. Applying Spot Heal corrections with opacity less than 100%
The first is complicated by the fact that it's also associated with updating of the thumbnail previews (basically a timing issue) and has been around for a long time, although not everyone sees it. The second is more recent and much easier to reproduce.
Adobe engineering are aware of these bugs, but I supect that the fix is still some way off. The user level fix for both is as mentioned above, but further develop adjustments can result in it returning.

  • Editing with Photoshop CS4 from PSE8 Organizer

I have made numerious attempts to use Photoshop CS4 to edit an image in the PSE8 organizer rather than Photoshop Elements. There is a shortcut to launch CS4 which is Ctrl-H rather than the usual Ctrl-I. CS4 launched and I complete the edit. I do a save as but Organizer retains the Edit in Progress red bar across the image (edited version) and this does not go away even when CS4 is closed.
If I close PSE8 Organizer the Edited file is no longer there, in Elements or indeed in the folder. The same happens whether I save as a jpg or psd file.
Can anyone point out what is going wrong or give me the correct procedure for making this work.
    Peter

Peter I would love to find a solution for you.
There has always been a bug with PSE7 requiring edited RAW images from ACR to be manually imported back into PSE Organizer. This may apply to Jpegs and could have rolled-over into PSE8.
As PSE8 is fully supported I suggest you raise a ticket with Adobe Support through the contact link but it does not guarantee a solution to your problem.
This Adobe tech Note gives further details.

  • Metadata displayed for Organizer photos in Elements 6?

In the past when I used to use Elements 3 software, when I clicked on my photo thumbnails in the Organizer the metadata for that photo was displayed. In my newer software, Elements 6, I don't see the metadata in the Organizer, only when I open the photo in the Editor. Is it possible to view metadata in the Organizer?
I have a Dell PC and XP Home.
    Thank you.

  • PSE8 Organizer with PSE9 Editor

I'm trying to use the PSE8 Organizer with the  PSE9 Editor (don't like what they did to folder view in PSE9 Organizer).   I've tried to do it two ways: by setting the PSE9 Editor as a  supplemental editor and by replacing all the files in the Photoshop  Elements 8.0 directory with the files from the Photoshop Elements 9  directory.
The supplemental editor method results in:
a new  version of the file being opened is created in      the organizer each  time and that file is what is pulled into the editor (it's named  _edited_# and added to a version set of the original each time)
can only get into edit from the edit menu  (ie,      supplemental editor doesn't appear in right click drop down) -  can learn      to live with this if item 1 can be corrected.
Files don't get locked in the Organizer when they get      opened - can learn to live with this, too
Replacing the files in the directory results in
The  PSE9 editor opens when selecting "Edit with      Photoshop Elements"  from right click drop down (or from Edit menu) but it doesn't bring a       file into the editor.
If I use the open command from the editor, it brings      the file in but doesn't lock it
Same problem with not recognizing the Organizer as      above.
    Anyone have any ideas?
Note: I poked around in the registry a little but nothing jumped out at  me immediately (adding the key for "CurrentCatalogPath" in the 9.0  section of Elements Organizer under the CURRENT_USER software key  stopped the message that the organizer wasn't being used but still did  not allow me the options to save changes in the Elements Organizer or  add to version set)

I agree with your view point about PSE 8 Organizer. I also like it better for the same reason.. My work around is having 2 monitors. I keep PSE8 organizer on the left and PSE9 Editor on the right. Then I drag across. My catalog paths and settings in Both organizers is the same. Edited items from PSE9 will show up in 8....make sure your "watched folders" settings are set and the same in both organizers. Its a bit clunky...but it works for me...but I'm just a new guy to PSE.

  • PSE8 Organizer won't display on monitor

I have a really strange problem.  I have a new laptop running Windows 7.  I have a mouse, keyboard and monitor (among other things) attached to it via a port replicator so I can use the laptop as a desktop (whatever happened to good old docking stations?!?).  I have had all kinds of problems since installing PSE8, but this one baffels me.
When I start up the Organizer, either from a direct shortcut to PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe OR through the Welcome screen, Organizer starts (and appears in the task bar) but only displays on the laptop screen.  It won't display on my monitor.  Now it worked a couple of times but then stopped working.
I'm hoping there is a very simple solution!

Edit > Visibility was set to Show All Files.  In Preferences, I unchecked all filter selections for Auto Analyze.  No effect.
I have one folder with 3 .tiff files that PSE8 Organizer won't display.  Trying to import the files and PSE8 says they are there but PSE8 cannot display them.  No explanation.  Windows Photo Viewer and Picasa have no problem displaying them.
I have deleted and made new catalogs with the same results for that folder.  I cannot figure out what is wrong with these files.  All other applications have no problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • PSE8 Organizer won't display new files

After copying photo files into a folder, I opened PSE8 Organizer and imported the files.  PSE8 reported importing 578 photos.  I clicked to Show ALL.  Only the original 24 photos in the folder are displayed.
I have tried rebuilding the catalog, and deleting and creating a new catalog.  Nothing seems to work.  The rebuilding of the catalog reported the files are there and do not need to be imported.  But PSE8 still won't display any but the original 24 files.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Get rid of update metadata arrow

How did I get rid of the arrow telling to me update metadata. I have write to xmp sidecar turned off, and I don't want to create sidecars, but LR is telling me the files need to be updated. All the metadata is in the db already. I don't need or want sidecars, but the arrows are driving me crazy.
If I go ahead and make the sidecar for any given file at issue, then go delete the xmp from disk, the arrow goes away and the caption is still there. It's idiotic.

I'll admit having experienced this "metadata needs updating" mystery prompt, and without other applications having been involved. I'm looking at a collection of 14 DNG files right now that happen to be temporarally "located" in the quick collection. 3 of these 14 are showing a flashing down-arrow, while the harddrive churns in unison. I thought I had previously seen a hover-notice that indicated "metadata needs to be updated", but that little notice isn't working this morning.
Choosing the option 'Metadata=>Save metadata to file' does not work -- however, choosing "Update DNG preview & metadata' does work. That said, I still have no reason for why only 3 of these 14 showed problems with metadata when nearly all 14 were similarly edited.
Hmmm(?) ... while I write, thinking I had removed the problem, mysteriously a number (~6) of them have begun flashing their arrow again. I selected all files and then chose to "Sync Metadata" and all is (just as mysteriously) quiet again. I understand "Sync metadata" makes all writable metadata in all files the same, but that was alright for these files.
Hmmm(?) look at that!! Another has begun flashing again, and now it's quit on it own. Geez Louise! This is a mystery I don't need, and I'll be keeping an eye on this topic.
