Updating multiple pages at once
I am in the process of changing my site from mostly text to text, pictures, a menu bar, etc.
Do I have to change the pages one at a time or is there an easier way to do this? I found a site that said DW had a proprietary system that would allow me to do this, but I can't find this system in the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
There's no magic button to set things up in a single process as you are planning.
Dreamweaver has Templates and Library Items.
You create your Template including all repetitive elements such as navbars then create child pages from that Template. There's plenty of info in DW's Help system and online tutorials about DW Templates.

Firefox will NOT load multiple pages at once, Help!
I cannot get Firefox to load multiple pages at once. If I try this, they will continue to show the "load"/"refresh" symbol forever and ever (at least half an hour by the time I got fed up). I can load one page at a time but even then it takes quite a long time for the page to fully load - god forbid the page has images on it because then it might take up to 10 minutes to fully load.
Sometimes if I try to load multiple pages and then "x" out of them and try to do it one by one, it simply refuses to load ANY of the pages.
I can load multiple pages at one time in IE on my computer, I can load single pages in IE without delay. I can do the same thing in Safari on a desktop mac in the house. So NO, it is NOT my internet connection, thanks.
For God's sake, I'm sending this complaint/question in IE because I KNOW it won't send in firefox. How messed up is that?A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

working on a website for a symphony. They want to have their
upcoming events listed in the sidebar of every page and want to be
able to update the content frequently. But, they have over 50

update the pages
created from it, it make the sidebar a server side include.

Multiple pages at once options
Is it possible to open multiple pages at once (like a home button), but allows you to select/ sort under different topics. e.g one click opens all financial tabs, another opens sports, etc
Consider that I want to sort these vairous topics as a way to review all my regular interests individually, without having some many pages open when I click the home button, only to close non relevant pages.
In essence I see it as having 2 or 3 home buttons. Does this exist? You can place bookmarks in a folder and open all the bookmarks in that folder with a middle-click on that folder or via the right-click context menu of that folder.<br />
You can place that folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar for easy access.

How to Select Multiple Pages at Once
Perhaps a basic question, but I have 6 HTML pages up in the
Dreamweaver 8.0 edit window. The side bar of each pages is
identical. I want to make the same change in all six pages and
would like to do it all at once. I went to simply ctrl+click (pc)
to try and select all the page tabs at once but no luck.
Can I make the same edit to all the open HTML pages I have up
in Dreamweaver at once? How do I do it?

Why not just use a sitewide find-and-replace? Better yet,
convert one
of the pages into a template, regenerate the other pages from
the
template, and have future changes automatically update the
pages. (Of
course you would still have to upload them after changing--if
there are
a *lot* of pages server-side includes would be a better
practice.)

Updating multiple links at once in CS3
Is there a way to add an extension or a script - so that I can update multiple image links at once.
Theses images are in a catalogue and all the images are in the same folder, I am having to update one at at time.
I know this is in CS5 but I am stuck here in CS3.
Help!Moving the InDesign file wouldn't cause the links to go missing. Theyre just pointers to a file location, so evidently the folders containing the links have also been moved. Was there a server update that renamed a server? That's a very common scenario for this problem.
There might be a script floating around that will deal with this. As I recall, exporting to .inx and editing the .inx in a text editor to change the path (if all the changes are the same, i.e. you need to change from Q:\ProjectFolder1\<filename> to X:\ProjectFolder1\<filename>) is a fast way to fix lots of links that were broken by renaming a server, but if the links are scattered, probably the best bet is close and reopen the file and let ID fiind as many links as possible in each folder you direct it to, as mentioned above. -
How do I pass a cfparam value to multiple pages at once
Here's the link to my page:
www.carolinagreen.net/victus
Click "Roster" and then "The Infamy" to see my problem.
What I've done is made the roster page populate dynamically
with each artist from a table in the database. The links for each
artist you see on the roster page are all linked to the page
artist.cfm and each passes its unique ID to the artist page for
displaying the info about each artist.
On the artist page, I also have an iFrame that I intend to
use to display the shows. The page it displays is called shows.cfm.
Now, I know the show page works because you can type
www.carolinagreen.net/victus/shows.cfm?ID=1 and it will display the
shows for The Infamy. My problem is getting it to pass the ID value
to the shows.cfm page at the same time that it passes it to the
artist.cfm page.
Both pages currently have this at the top to supply the ID to
the page:
<cfparam name="URL.ID" type="numeric" default="0">
I thought it might actually just pass the ID to both since
the browser opens both pages at once.
Is this even possible? I know I could just screw the iFrame
and make a link to the shows.cfm page that opens in a new window or
something, but I'm trying to work with my clients wishes. If worse
comes to worse, I can just forget the iFrame, display the shows in
the artist.cfm page and make the body of the page grow to fit all
the info in, but that could get messy and stupid looking when the
artist has a 30-show tour booked.
Any ideas anyone?
CameronActually your browser does two independent calls to your
webserver and the scripts do not share the information with each
other.
Just pass the id value to the iframe by adding it to the src
attribute from within your "artist.cfm"-script.
<iframe src="shows.cfm?ID=#url.id#">
That's it. -

Updating several pages at once?
I am using the same template for my entire site and have so
far created about 30 pages. I just looked at the side menu, and
noticed that there is 1 link that I forget to create. Is there
anyway that I can just add the link through out the site without
having to load each page and add the link one at a time?
The site is growing so fast, that I may have to do this in
the future also - add more links, change links etc. Is there
perhaps a tutorial or, a help topic that I can look at?Create a new page from the template. Then copy and paste
content from the
unattached page into the new page, before saving the new over
the old. Do
this with each old page.

Hello to all,
I have now organised my files and automatically updated links
that were already created. However, I have now realised that I wish
to add something to one of my pages and link it to another page
within my site. However, this needs to be done on all my pages, how
can I accomplish this without having to go to each page and do the
link manually?
Many thanks,
JeffFirst, look into SSI (server side includes) which will
require major
redesign of every page on your site, but will make this
problem go away
completely in the future.
Next, use the links editor in Dreamweaver if you are changing
all specific
links in the site, or use find and replace. When used
creatively, you can
actually add or remove links to a all pages as long as there
are exact
similarities in the code.
For instance, if you have something like:
<p><a href="newpage1.htm">link
1</a></p>
<p><a href="newpage2.htm">link
2</a></p>
<p><a href="newpage3.htm">link
3</a></p>
in your code, you could find:
<p><a href="newpage3.htm">link
3</a></p>
and replace it with:
<p><a href="newpage3.htm">link
3</a></p>
<p><a href="newpage4.htm">link
4</a></p>
That will add a link to your list.
Make a backup of your site and then play with find and
replace. if you screw
it up, just restore from the backup and start again.
Then read up in SSI... change one line in one file and it
changes every page
that has the include.

Updating multiple fields at once
i have a form with a check box
<cfinput type="checkbox" name="update_friend" value="1"
checked="yes">
then on the action page my query reads
<cfparam name="FORM.update_friend" default="0">
<cfquery datasource="#application.datasource#">
UPDATE user_friend
SET update_friend = #FORM.update_friend#
WHERE id_friend =#FORM.id_friend# (THIS IS THE PRIMARY KEY
FOR THE TABLE I AM TRYING TO UPDATE)
</cfquery>
when i submit this, i am getting a mysql error message,
any help would be appreciated
thanksok let me explain a bit more...
i have a system which shows what your friends have been doing
on my website...what artists they have added into the database
etc(Updates)....what i am trying to do is allow people to choose
which friends they would like to recieve updates for...
so i have a column called update_friend which is set to
default 1 in the friends table...then I have a query on the updates
page which shows the activity of all of your friends with a 1 in
the update_friend column...
to allow people to control which friends they recieve updates
from I have a form which checkboxes
<a href="
http://www.musicexplained.co.uk/delete/updates_opt.cfm">click</a>
if you want to remove a friend from your updates list you
would decheck the checkbox next to their name and then submit...
what i would then like to happen.....is for the query to
update the checked check boxes with 1 so the user will still
recieve updates from those people, and update the unchecked check
boxes with 0 so they no longer recieve updates from them
if I have 4 checked check boxes out of the 7 i am getting a
list (1,1,1,1) as an output, which would suggest initially that the
<cfparam name="FORM.update_friend" default="0"> isnt working,
but regardless of this I would like if john was checked, dave was
checked, mary was checked and james was checked, and then hilary,
donny and gas was unchecked.......john, dave, mary and james would
be updated with 1 in their update_friend columns, and the rest
would be updated with 0 ..
so essentially the query would be
UPDATE user_friend
SET update_friend = 1,1,1,1,0,0,0
WHERE id_friend IN (12,13,14,15,16,17,18)

Update multiple graphs at once
Hi, I have a VI containing multiple graphs (on a page of a tab control, to be precise) like these:
Now, I'd like when the VI starts to initialize all of these graphs in the same manner:
Basically, removing all the plot names and making them all not visible.
Later, as my VI executes, I want to populate each graph with its relevant data and decide programatially on the number of plots in each graph, on the names of the plots etc.
Now, it is OK to do it like above when one has a few graphs, but I am going to have some 16 of them and it is a real pain to add the wires as in the above screenshot every time I decide to add a graph to the front panel or if I decide some additional initialization is needed.
Can this be done in some sort of a loop? I visialize some sort of loop going thru all the graphs belonging to some LabView object and somehow setting all those properties, while retaining the ability to reference each individual graph later in the program (by it name).
Thanks in advance for your help.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Create an array of references for each of those graphs. Unlink the property notes from the graph and feed it the array of references from outside the loop. Now the loop will autoindex over the array and setting the properties on each of those graph references.

How do I update multiple addresses at once?
I have a about 2 dozen entries in my address book for a particular company. Is there a way to update the address for all of the employees of that company at one time? It is very time consuming to go to each entry and type the address over and over again. The same would go for the fax number
If you are not familiar with Applescript the simplest is probably to select them all (eg by putting the company name in the search box and selecting all found) export the selection as a vCard then delete the selection. Open the vCard in a text editor, do a global find/replace on the affected data, then import the vCard again.

Few Questions About Migrating Site & Editing Many Pages at Once
OK. First things first. My manager doesn't want me listing
our company name in this post since we are currently trying to get
out of our hosting contract and she doesn't want to jeapordize
anything in case someone stumbled across the post by a search or
anything. FYI: I have Dreamweaver CS3.
So here's the deal. My company would like to move our site
away from this proprietary WYSIWYG online editor we have. The
current setup locks us into to this silly online editor for our
site and doesn't allow access to our files on their server. This
means that if I want to simply change the file name of a picture on
our site, I have to log in to their editor and go through about ten
stupid steps. The problem is, the site is dynamically generated.
Every page on the site looks something like this at the end:
default.aspx?pageid=9. Those links are permanently attached to
specific pages and the content on the individual pages rarely
changes. I tried using some offline downloaders to grab every page
of our site in case we move it elsewhere. When these pages are
downloaded, though, the file names change and it breaks all of the
links.
If I go into the code and change every individual link to
other pages and style sheets I can get it to look good.
So my first question is: is there a way to easily allow
Dreamweaver to import a couple hundred dynamically generated pages
and make them into static pages so that they just look like
"xyz.com/products.html"? Fortunately, our site is not extremely
large (maybe 250+ pages) so in an absolute worst case scenario I
could post a lot of the pages by hand.
My second question regards changing specific items across many
pages. Our current site contains the ability to place little
widgets into pages. This means that if we want a navigation bar on
a hundred different pages, we just edit the one entry for the
widget and every page changes. I'm sure this is possible in DW, but
I spent an hour trying to search online yesterday trying to find
info and didn't answer my question. Is this what templates are for?
I saw people mentioning Find All, but this didn't seem like a
perfect solution. I apologize if this is a very stupid question. No
one needs to take the time to explain the exact process to me, but
if someone could just tell me the name of the functionality and if
they know a specific resource to learn more about it, that would be
wonderful.
Whatever this functionality is, would I have to start over from
scratch with the pages? Or could I implement it with the current
site that's already put together? I'd be happy to convert the
site to static HTML if there's an easy way to change multiple pages
at once other than Find All and Replace.
Thank you so, so much for any help. I appreciate it. I just
want to make sure these things are possible before we start the
ball rolling down that path.I think I could answer your questions with just one answer so
here it goes.
What you need to do when making this type of mass move from
an online editor to DW would be to first download a copy of
everything you have just so you have a backup in case any mistakes
are made.
Next with the downloading of the files. You will need to log
in via FTP in Dreamweaver or via your file manager on the control
panel of your website. If you are unsure of where this is or how to
log in via FTP, you may need to contact your host for the login
information. Even though the files appear to be dynamic I do
believe that most editors would just store the pages separately and
just uses includes to make that work. However, if this is not how
it appears, post back with the name of the editor that you were
using.
Next, take one of the files you have. Based on the
description you are giving me it sounds as if they all look the
same just with different content (nav bar aside). If this is the
case you can create a template file in Dreamweaver. Within that
template you should place the content that is the same for all of
your pages. Then make one editable region for your content to go
into. These links can be found from the main toolbar for creating
editable regions and other template functions (which I believe
includes the navbar).
Also one thing to note with templates is that they will
automatically fix links on the pages when you save the template to
include new files via links. So you don't have to worry about
updating all of the pages all of the time. The only thing you would
need to update the individual pages for would be for the content on
those pages.
Hopefully this will get you started in the right direction.
But as I said in the beginning if you have trouble getting the
files off of the site post a bit more information about what you
have and hopefully someone here will be able to point you in the
right direction.
