Updating my 9700 through Mac OS X Desktop Manager

When I connect my BB 9700 to my Macbook, I am prompted to update to BB OS 6, but then am prompted to update the desktop manager, which I did, but I still am prompted to update, and the desktop manager freezes afterwards untill it doesn't respond.
Please, can anyone provide me with a solution or any other method of updating through mac (no, I do not have access to a Windows machine, nor do I have any Windows ISO to install via bootcamp).
Thanks everyone!

We have some Disk Corruption at least...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
After reboot do we get the same error(s)?

  • Won't connect to the Mac version of Desktop Manager

I have a blackberry 8520 v 4.6.1.314 (platform 4.2.0.135). It used to connect to the desktop manager, but now it won't connect at all.
The desktop manager reads the cellphone type just fine (on the screen it reads the name (my name), the cellphone type, the PIN number, and how much space my media card has left) but if I click the icon on the upper-left side of the screen, it says that my cellphone is not connected. The back-Up, Restore, and Sync buttons are all greyed.
How do I fix this? It used to be just fine a couple of months ago, and I never changed anything on my blackberry. -- in short, it has the same condition as it was before, when everything was a OK.
PS: My Mac version of the Blackberry Desktop Manager is the newest version.

Did you try a hard reset? ( phone powered on / remove battery / replace 15 seconds later and wait for reboot)
    Did this work?
If not, make sure you have mass storage mode enabled on your device:
To enable mass storage mode complete the following steps:
Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer.
From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Media Card or Memory, or click Options > Advanced Options > Media Card(depending on which BlackBerry® Device Software version you are running).
Press the Menu key and change Mass Storage Mode Support to On.
To enable Mass Storage Mode automatically every time you connect, scroll down to Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when Connected and change it to Yes.
Press the Menu key and click on Save.
Enter your BlackBerry smartphone password and click Enter (if prompted).

  • Difference between pocket mac and new desktop manager?

i use pocket mac and its fine for my bberry contacts, etc.should i change to the new software?

I agree with deepblade.   I know a few people who downloaded the software without reading all the instuctions, or without doing a complete uninstall of pocketmac.  Also some people didn't not check the proper sync services to make sure their device was being seen.
For me pocketmac never worked and completely screwed up my contacts.
Although DM is not perfect, IMHO, its 10 times better than pocket mac.
For those claiming they are going to run out an buy an iphone, get over yourselves.  There is no perfect device or associated software that works 100% out the gate everytime for everyone.
I'm sure when DTM for the PC was introduced there were issues.  RIM seems to have teh PC version under control and people seem happy.  I'm new (6 weeks) to blackberry/RIM but I like my device and I would like to give them a chance and I hope they are reading this board and people are calling/email with issues so that they can be addressed/correct ASAP!

  • Address Book not syncing with one computer (through .mac)

I'm having difficulty syncing one of my computers through .mac. My desktop seems to interact fine with the online account, but I can't get the AddressBook info from .mac onto my laptop. I have tried all the syc settings in System Preferences and in the preferences menu in Address Book and they all say that I should be syncing. Is there something I am missing? As far as I can tell, both computers have the same settings. I'm wanting to be able to use my ipod touch with either computer, (and to have both computers have the same info as each other) . . .
    Thanks for any help.

I just upgraded to Leopard and am having the same problem. Everything is syncing fine except the AB. I still see all my contacts up on .mac thank goodness, but nothing is coming down to my computer. I hope that they don't just disappear up on .mac as well!!!

  • Desktop Manager program for Blackberry 7290 to sync to MacBook Pro

I just bought a new MacBook Pro computer.  I am trying to sync my trusty old Blackberry 7290 but can not find a Desktop Manager program that works.  Can anyone help me find the correct program to load so I can sync my Blackberry with my Mac?
    Thank you very much

The device doesn't meet the minimum requirements then. Your Mac OS version can be found by clicking the Apple symbol in the top left corner then choosing About This Mac. The BlackBerry OS version can be found under Options | About. I either of those is less that what's listed in the KB article then you won't be able to use DM for the Mac.
Before Desktop Manager was available for the Mac people used PocketMac.

  • Desktop Manager Greyed Out & Inaccessible

This is a new problem with Desktop manager as I previously had access to it. When I plug my Blacbkberry in and start up Desktop Manager, the full BB Desktop Manager window greys out (inaccessible). The title bar is showing as connected, the server staus (at bottom of BB Desktop Manager window) is online, the actuve device is detected and my Blackberry PIN is shown is the connected device. However, since the entire Desktop Manager box is greyed out, I do not have access to any of the buttons, such as synchronize. When the Blackberry is disconnected from my computer, then I can access the buttons (i.e., the greyed out area is normal again). I followed the Blackberry Trouble Shooting guide online for when the synchronize now button is not available, including uninstalling and reinstalling the software and turning off the antivirus software. I also did all updates for Windows. I'm running Windows 98. Any suggestions? What causes this?

I am also experiencing a very similar situation.  I have a Rogers 8310 Curve that syncs to my Win XP Pro laptop using CompanionLink to sync to my Goldmine CRM.    I have the original Blackberry Desktop Manager Ver 4.2.0.15 installed.  Up until this afternoon, the synchronization has worked perfectly ... never a problem.
During a Sync today, I inadvertandantly unplugged my Curve from the USB cable (forgetting that it was in the middle of a sync).  When I plugged the Blacbkberry back in and start the Desktop Manager, the full BB Desktop Manager window greys out (inaccessible). This is the exact same thing as described below:
The title bar is showing as connected, the server staus (at bottom of BB Desktop Manager window) is online, the actuve device is detected and my Blackberry PIN is shown is the connected device. However, since the entire Desktop Manager box is greyed out, I do not have access to any of the buttons, such as synchronize. When the Blackberry is disconnected from my computer, then I can access the buttons (i.e., the greyed out area is normal again).
So, before I go on a fishing expeditition, I'd like to confirm the best course of action.   I have a couple of questions:
    1) Should I uninstall the Desktop Manager as per the recommendation below?
    2) Should any other BB components be removed?
    3) When reinstalling, should I use Blackberry DM 4.3 again or would this be the time to update the Desktop Manager Software?
    4) If I should update the softward, which upgrade version of Desktop Manager can I safely use with this device?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Desktop Manager bugs issue report!!

using Desktop Manager software latest version or beta stage version handset can't update OS even using loader.exe and desktop manager.
    1. using loader.exe
OS installation already on local storage but when do update manually the package is empty.
    2. using desktop manager.exe
OS installation already on local storage but when do update its must be update online and only OS older version at online update

Any beta related discussions should be posted to the BlackBerry Beta Zone. However, that said, one thing to check is to ensure the device software has indeed is indeed installed before attempting the update. If you happen to uninstall the BlackBerry Desktop Software, it will also delete any preinstalled BlackBerry Device Software.
So install the Desktop Software, then the device software. Now does it work?
(Note: I have also posted a similar comment on the Beta Zone re: this issue).

  • Desktop Manager doesn't work in Vista

    Hi
i have BB Bold 9900 and wanted to update the software for it and downloaded Desktop Manager (DM) for it. After downloading the DM I installed it and the installation went fine. But, when I tried to open the DM an error occurred and could not open. I reinstalled the software again hoping to fix the error but still it shows the same. When I open the DM it shows an error occured while opening the software and please select either of the two options
    1. Wait for the program to respond
    2. Close the program
Can you suggest me what can I do to fix the problem and even update my BB?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    I suggest this thread:

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
    Good luck!

  • BB Desktop Manager no longer works with Mac Maverick - Need Help Urgently

I have been a loyal Blackberry user since the Government of Canada officially began using these cell phones. I feel, however, abandoned by Blackberry (they obviously don't believe that it is easier to retain an existing customer than acquire a new one). I'm using a Blackberry Bold (9900) with a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine until I upgraded my Mac operating system to Maverick; my Blackberry Desktop Manager no longer works, so I cannot sync the content (contacts, calendar) of my phone with my Mac, but that's not the worst of it.
I recently had a momentary lapse and exceeded the 10 password attempts to access my phone... this accidentally wiped my phone clean... and because Desktop Manager does not work with Mac, I do not have a way to recover my data. Rogers was of no help and had Blackberry updated its desktop software months ago, as it should have, this issue would have been moot. I do not know how or why, but I was able to recover most of my data, but I'm not sure just how up-to-date tha data is and am still going through it, but I'm having issues with some functionality.
I'm in the US for several months and have suspended my Canadian services. Prior to the wipe, I was able to use wifi on my phone to send and receive emails with no problem.  After the wipe, I can't send emails or bbms.  I checked my blackberry internet service and all email accounts are good to go. BBMs are another issue.  I need help.  Suggestions please.

Apple has ceased synchronization with Mavericks. The issue lies with Apple, not with the desktop software. To mitigate the lack of sync capabilities in Mavericks you can sync your contacts and calender on your Mac with the usual suspects (Yahoo, Google). Create a backup (archive) for Contacts and Calender on your Mac first, then create one of those email accouonts that allow syncing. On your 9900 and with BlackBerry provisioning enabled create the new or existing email account. See which email accounts can sync with BB, I know Yahoo is working fine. For Yahoo, get the Yahoo Calender sync (a few bucks one-off payment required), Contacts sync works off the shelf within BB. If you reset the 9900 you should be able to restore all data with BB DTM. Please note that emails you received during the 9900 reset and the date of restore will not be available on the device. You will still not be able to sync contacts/calender over BB DTM. I hope that helps.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager and Mac

I have a new 8530 Curve and I am not able to sync my contacts through Desktop Manager. My calendar syncs fine but when I try to sync my contacts the program freezes up about 3/4 of the way through. Has anybody had this problem and how did you solve it?

Here is what I did to save my contacts without the need for Desktop Manager on my BB Storm (since I had the same problem as you are running in to):
Via Bluetooth, I paired my BB and my Mac Powerbook G4 (keeping both discoverable). Then I went in to MANAGE CONNECTIONS on my phone, then BLUETOOTH OPTIONS and I highlighted my computers name (do not click on it). Push the MENU button on your phone and in there I found TRANSFER CONTACTS. It sent a Bluetooth file of my phonebook contacts right on to my computer. After that, I transferred it in to my Mac address book, they all remain highlighted, and you can create a new group in your address book and drag them into there for future use. At least I was able to preserve and save my phones contact list without worry before updating software.
Hope this helps! I am new to this forum, and love that you all have helped me greatly. I have been on a Mac since 3 months before Apple released it back in the 80's (I worked at Apple in NY). And I have been on BB's since they first arrived on the scene. Love to share any info I find, and than you for your info! Terij

  • Desktop Manager for Mac error message KB19454

    Hi All,
I am new to the community and would appreciate any assistance. I have two recent problems for which  I am seeking troubleshooting advice. The priority problem is mentioned first below.
I've just encountered this error message, "For help resolving this issue, refer to KB19454 in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager Knowledge Base" when attempting to sync my Curve 8320. I use a Mac, and I haven't run into any difficulties syncing since downloading the newer version of the Desktop Manager for Mac in Dec/Jan. I haven't been able to download the latest update though. I did see an early post by someone with the same difficulty, but I was unclear of the question posed, and thus I am hopeful for potential suggestions for resolution.
The additional problem I've recently experienced is that I can't compose an SMS/MMS message. I can only reply to someone's message. When I try to simply send one, the screen defaults back to the list of messages.
Please Note: I do not have wireless on my phone. I utilize Blackberry Desktop Manager Version 1.0.1
Please also note that I am not able to access electronic messages daily but will attempt to return any responses/inquires as quickly as possible.
Thank you in advance for assistance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
For your first issue, I cannot tell if you've yet worked through the referenced KB...if not, you can find it here.
For your second issue, I'm unsure...but perhaps this will help:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Best!
