Updating my Iphone 4 then it said error 1604 and now keeps saying that when i try to restore it

is there anything i can do or do i have to take it to apple?

I had exactly the same problem. It happened today after I upgraded to Lion and the latest version of iTunes.
Then I did some search on the net and got a solution and was able to restore.
What you need to do is, connect your iphone to a different USB port on your system, make sure it isn't connected through a USB hub, only connect directly. If that doesn't work change the USB cable you are using and try again.

As with all clickwheel iPods, you can reset this iPod by first toggling the hold switch on and off and then simultaneously pressing the select (center) and menu buttons for approximately 5-10 seconds. This is a common fix should your iPod behave unexpectedly or lock up. Once reset, the iPod should display an Apple logo for a few seconds before showing the main menu. I am running Mac OSX 10.5 and have never had issues with firefox. Then I noticed it starting to run much slower and having issues freezing, yet if I used safari there were no problems. I decided to uninstall firefox and all of the folders that go along with it to get a clean restart with a new download. Everything seemed to download fine, but when I attempt to open firefox it just opens a warning that says "a copy of firefox is already open" and my only option is to close the program. Yes, I have quit ALL applications and even restarted the computer to make sure nothing is running first.
This may be completely unrelated, but another issue nonetheless, shortly before I started having issues with firefox, it no longer would go to the hotmail login page to check my email. I didn't change any settings, but it would not load that webpage even though every other page works fine. I know it is not a problem with the hotmail site because every other computer in my home will go to the site and login, plus I can get into my email by going to MSN and logging in from there.

Very aggrevating and is not helping my business at ALL!! Same has happened with both iPads we own now.

Delete then add back the exchange acct on each device.

Are you sure the update is done?
You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

Generally that is a sign that the iPhone had previously been jailbroken
or hacked to work with other than the original wireless provider. The update
has relocked the iPhone to the original wireless provider. You must
contact them to see if they provide unlocking and if you qualify.
If you can get that far, what does it say when you look at
Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

So it said to restore my iPhone and now it says that the Activation server is temporarily unavailable and when i plugged it into my mac, it said that i ddn't have a sim card installed. What can I do to fix this besides bring it to the store? it also bugs me because this answer was supposed to work but it just messed my phone up even more. Sorry i am just responding, I had to find out from the shop where I purchased the IPhone if it was jail broken and I ve now confirmed that it was not jail broken.

i have the same problem.and i found out, if my iphone vibrates,there is a new message, but its not shown.
if i restart my iphone after these vibrations, the new messages appear.very strange.

I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.6 and now I cannot use text/phone services. When attempting to access either service from the primary display the screen whites out and freezes up. Settings>Phone allows me to interface with my preference howevver tapping on Settings>Messages (or Settings>Facetime) causes the Settings function to lock up. I have to back out of Settings entirely and restart. This is seriously agrivating.

I would do a full restore in iTunes using your last backup.

Your friend may have Encrypeted Backups enabled on their iTunes if so that person should know the password if they don't I don't think there is much luck for you but I am research methods to unlock iPhone encrypted backups! If I find anything I shall let you know!

Contacts are NOT part of the iTunes backup. If you had read the User Guide when you got your phone, you would have learned that Apple recommends you synch your contacts for safekeeping to your computer (Outlook, Address Book) or a cloud service. Using the phone as your only source of your contacts is foolish as the phone can easily be lost, damaged, stolen, or the data become corrupt.
If you've been using your phone as strongly recommended, your contacts are safe and sound on your computer or cloud service ready to be synched back to your phone. Of course, you should be backing up your computer regularly as well.
If you haven't been doing this, your contacts are likely gone.
