While updating my iPhone 4 to iOS I've got this error message:
An error occurred while backing up this iPhone (-402653077). Would you like to continue to update this iPhone?
What shall I do? Cancel the update and try again?
Please let me know,

One more thing: My concern now is, if I choose cancel will the update abort and nothing will happen to my iPhone contents or will I incurr in some troubles/dataloss?
Does anybody has a clue?

Thanks to a Apple tech support agent we were able to find out the problem. If anyone else runs into the same problem. These are the steps you should take to fix the problem becuase more then likely you have had a jailbroken device on the computer that your using to do the update.
1.
-In TinyUmbrella unchecked the option that says "Set hosts to cydia on exit"
-Press Apply Changes
-QUit TinyUmbrella

-In terminal, write this:

sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts
-Press Enter
-Delete all lines that reference gs.apple.com
-Save File

I cannot send emails after I updated my iPhone 4 to ios5. I can get them I just cant send them. I use comcast account. HELP!! Also safari is running REALLY slow.

I had this issue and this was what worked for me, I was using the "hotmail" option though.
1. go to settings
2. go to mail, contacts, calendars
3.delete your email from device
4. click "add account"
5. there should be different account options, chose "other"
6. chose "add mail account" and do so
You should be able to send now, but you might want to check how it updates. Certain email options used "push" which lets you know you have a new email the moment you get it, much like a text message. "Other" only allows you to have "fetch" which updates every selected amount of mintues, and "Manual" which does exactly what it says.
7. It should return you to the mail, contacts, calendars page. Press "Fetch New Data"
8. there will be a list of when it will update your email. The less it updates, the easier it is on battery life. There is a manually option.
9. If you want to use the actually "Manual" Update schedule then press "Advance" then your account.
10. There you can chose "Fetch" (which I suggest if you use email a lot and there is a manual option there anyways) or "Manual"

Did you check how many entries do you sync in the iPhone? Under "Mail, calendar and contacts" options on the Settings app, you need to make sure that you have enough entries syncing in your iCal.
By default I think it's the last 30 entries, but you can set it up to view all entries.
Also make sure that your calendars are selected as viewed.

if you have backed up your iPhone, photos that were taken on the iPhone will be in the back up file. Any photos synced to your iPhone from a computer will need to be synced again. To restore your iPhone from a back up right click on the name of your iPhone in iTunes and select restore from back up.

This indicates corrupt files. A restore should resolve.
