Updating my Ipod Mini

I have a IPod Mini that I bought about six months ago. When trying to transfer music to another computer all my 524 songs got deleted of my IPod so I went to put all the songs back on it. At first it looked as if it had worked but I unplugged the IPod from the USB port and there was no songs on it. Now when ever i try to put songs on it it updates about 50 some songs then it say update it complete and I don't get any songs on the IPod. If anyone knows how to fix this or and tips please contact me. [email protected] Thank You

Updating my iPod mini from a second PC

I want to update my iPod mini from a second PC. When I start to do so I get a message that my iPod is linked to another iTunes music library and am asked: Do you want to change the link and replace all existing songs with those from this (the second) library?
Of course, I don't want to so I'm stuck and unable to update unless I'm willing to lose what's already on my iPod. Is there a workaround? Any advice much appreciated.

Click 'no' to this message, then select iPod options by right clicking on the iPod in the source window and change the transfer method to manual.
This is how you will have to keep it whilst you are using more than one computer to update your iPod.

My itunes will not update my ipod mini-please help me

For the last couple of days, I have been updating my itunes with new music. However, when I connect my ipod to my PC it does not update my ipod mini with the new music. The other night it was connected and said it was charging but didn't update and right now it's plugged in and says nothing, I think the battery died. So I am wondering how in the world do i get my ipod to update. Please someone help me! I've already tried rebooting the computer, what else works?

Sounds like you've got connection problems, Al. Also, the exclamation mark means you need to restore your iPod.
Run the iPod Updater (Start - Programs - iPod) and only connect your mini when it tells you to connect and iPod. This time, however, connect it to one of the ports on the rear of your computer (if you have a desktop).
If it's still not recognized by the updater, reset it: hold down the Menu and Center buttons until you see the Apple logo.
If it's recognized by the updater, choose the Restore option and follow the instructions from there.

IPod updater breaks iPod Mini

my iPod mini has worked fine for over a year, only a couple of freezes that were easily corrected by a reset.
yesterday I download the latest iTunes, and the iPod Updater 2005-9-23. Since then my Mini refuses to download more than 2-3 songs without locking.
I've restored to factory defaults a number of times.
i've restored to the previous iPod mini version a few times.
I can't (easliy) restore to the previous version of iTunes.
The only solution on any of the boards I can find is 'restore to factory'. Well I've been doing that most of today with no success.
Would someone from Apple like to explain what's going on? I'll be darned if I spend GBP132 sending it off for a repair when I'm sure it's just software.

Thanks Scott but that is exactly what I was referring to.
I can't tell whether it's iTunes or the iPod updater that has caused the problem. Frankly I'm not convinced that rhe 'Restore iPod' function really does what it says. If it did then by using the previous updater I should have been restoring to the exact same version that worked well until Wednesday.
And if that was the case then the latest iTunes downdate is the cause of the problem.

I just downloaded the new update and it's not working for my iPod mini--is this supposed to be just for the new iPod- nano?

IPod Updater 2005-09-06 contains the same software versions as iPod Updater 2005-06-26 for all other iPod models beside the nano.
So, there's nothing new for you in it.

I have updated my ipod mini and It wont start anymore! :(

I have installed the new update on my mini and then i follow everything correctly i connect my ipod to a ipod power adapter i did toggle the hold switch on and off and at last press and hold the menu and select button for at least 6 seconds...and it is dead meat....
There is no signs of living thing in my ipod ....
Its killed i have done everything to make it work again but it wont :(*

That is true. you purchase one download only of music/vids/etc.
You can redownload apps only.
Did you update without making sure that you had transferred all purchases from the ipod to itunes? not good.
From the itunes store terms of service:
"PRODUCTS CAN BE DOWNLOADED ONLY ONCE; AFTER BEING DOWNLOADED, THEY CANNOT BE REPLACED IF LOST FOR ANY REASON. YOU SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR OWN SYSTEM, INCLUDING ANY PRODUCTS PURCHASED OR RENTED FROM THE ITUNES STORE THAT ARE STORED IN YOUR SYSTEM."
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception. They are under no obligation to allow.

Updating from iPod mini to iPod nano

Is there anyway anyone knows that I can trade in my 10 month old iPod mini for an iPod nano, I'm willing to pay the difference. Please contact!!!!

Your best bet is to sell your mini (try ebay or something) & buy a nano.

Dowloanding Software Update to IPOD Mini

I'm trying to download an update for the software for the mini. However, when I go to the download page, a link fails to appear on the screen. I'm guessing something on my computer is preventing me from seeing the update link. I've disabled the antivirus/firewall, etc but still nothing. I can not put any music that I purchase on my IPOD until the software is updated...any ideas? Much appreciated.

Can't update my iPod mini

When i plug in my iPod to update it i receive the following message, The software required for communitcating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software. I've tried reinstalling both but i still get that message. If i delete iTunes from my computer will my library still be there? If not, what should i do??

Colleen, follow these instructions exactly for removing iTunes, then reinstall.

Unable to update Ipod mini / Computer not responding to Ipod

I recently switched computers and I installed the iPod mini software onto my new computer. This worked at first but when I started moving music from iTunes onto my iPod from my new computer, the downloads would stop even though the music had not been fully downloaded. When I checked my iPod, the new music was not there. I downloaded the new iTunes and the new updater. I then tried to update my iPod software but it said "Firmware failure" and then my iPod mini started showing me the exclamation mark folder every time I turned it on. I tried to restore the iPod using my new computer but everytime I tried to do that, it showed "Firmware failure." Next, I plugged my iPod mini into my old computer and used an old update program to restore the iPod and it worked. When I plugged the iPod back into my new computer, the computer would take a long time to recognize the player but iTunes wouldn'recognize it at all. When I try to update the ipod mini software, it shows initializing for a long time before the program crashes.
What should I do to get this ipod working again?

ok try this ...... this is the totally resetting things to do !!!!! first holthe center and the menu down when the apple comes then hold the center and the play down...... then it should be totally reset.... then install the new ipod updater and itunes 4.9 and then try if it works ...........

IPOD Mini - Updating Playlists

When I try to update my IPOD Mini, I get the following error message:
"Songs on the IPOD cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist"
How do I fix this?

Use the instructions in this article to change the iPod's synchronization mode to one of the other two options, or create a new playlist and add that to the list of playlists to sync to the iPod.

Playlist will not update from Itunes to IPOD Mini

I updated my Ipod mini (v1.4) and Itunes (v6.0.1). Since that time, i cannot update a play list on my Ipod. I added a song that was on a playlist prior to the update that is in the M4P format to Ipod. It lists it under my artists but refuses to accept any updated playlists. I receive the circle symbol with the line through it. Is there a setting that has changed in itunes not allowing to change my playlists?

did you have the ipod mini connected to the computer when running a windows xp update??
if so your ipod will have to be serviced
sorry but the ipod now contains a hard drive update that isn't compatible for the ipod so if you had the ipod connected while updating windows xp you now need to get your ipod serviced

IPod Mini problems with 2nd computer (Manual Updating)

The laptop I had been using to update my IPod Mini now doesn't let me use ITunes (firewall issues). So, I am now using a desktop.
On the desktop, I have installed ITunes and IPod Updater. The connection seems to be working fine because my Ipod was updated.
I purchased a few songs on ITunes and they will not download onto the IPod. I have it set for manual update (so not to lose all of my other music!) and am clicking and dragging. Yet, when I check my IPod's screen, no new music.
Under File, "Update IPod" is in grey and is not an active option for me to select.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get the new songs on my IPod?

keep us posted on the desktop. we have a number of techniques for getting itunes to open if it's being interfered with by security software.
In the meantime, I just emailed tech support about Deauthorizing that laptop. Do you think that could be my problem?
good point. try playing those songs for a few seconds in itunes on the laptop. (sometimes itunes doesn't realise that they are authorised until you do that.)
do they drag to the ipod properly then?

Ipod mini has shown adapter icon for 3 days since update

so i had to update my ipod mini inorder to read music from iTunes. Unfortunately, when i updated it, the adapter icon came on so I charged in in the wall via the USB adapter. That was three days ago and I cant get the adapter image to go away, plus my computer doesnt recognize when my ipod mini is connected. Can anyone help?
