  • Updated nano to 1.2 and now can't connect to PC or iTunes

I made the mistake of updating iPod Updater and iTunes and then updated nano to 1.2. Seemed to work fine last night and then today I got a message on the nano screen saying "firewire is not installed. plug in USB to download". I couldn't get the message to clear the screen until I reset many times. AT first it was recognize on both PC and iTunes and then when I tried to connect I got a message saying the device was not installed correctly and it wouldn't load and now suddenly I can't get the PC to even attempt to recognize the device. I did uninstall the updater and iTunes and then re-install the software back to previous revision but that didn't seem to make any difference. Can someone help??

  • Itunes won't update nano with new software version

Since the new software update has become available (which I'm hoping might fix my multiples in cover flow issue) I've tried on multiple occasions over a few days to download and install the update on my new nano 4th Gen.
It goes through the licence agreement bit and says it's downloading and will instal when it's done. However after a few minutes it gives an error message that the connection with the itunes server has timed out. It says check your connections and such but all is fine, even itunes own diagnostic connection test is all fine.
I've even tried the restore option but that just dies on it's attempt to get new software too and doesn't get anywhere.
I'm pretty good with computers but this one's now got me stumped.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Are you using a dial-up or broadband internet connection? If your using a dial-up connection, that might be your problem. If your using a broadband connectin and your getting this problem, you might just want to contact technical support.

  • Do all songs have to stay in music library after updating Nano?

Hi - everything is going along fine with putting songs into my library and updating the Nano. My issue is that I don't want 1000 songs in my hard drive. If I delete some songs out to create space, and update the Nano, will the songs that are missing from the library get deleted from the Nano?
I've tried looking in the help menu and in the manuals, but couldn't find the answer to seems like a very simple question - so anyone who can enlighten me is much appreciated. Thanks.

What you are describing is iTunes default setting for synching with your iPod:
...iTunes automatically updates iPod's music library whenever you connect iPod to your computer. iTunes transfers new songs you've added, and erases songs you've removed.
There is an alternative, manual updating. But it's really a lot less convenient. For details, have a look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61148 .
If you choose this method, pay particular heed to the warning about backing up your music.

  • Trying to update nano with more album covers, get error -50

When I first got my nano I only put about 10 artist's album covers on it. I had plenty of room for more so yesterday I tried to add more artwork that I downloaded. At first it seemed to be taking them allright but right in the middle of the sync it gave me a prompt with error (-50). I tried changing my settings to not show artwork and re-synced the nano. The i re-tried using the option for artwork. The original artwork reappeared but then I got that same error -50 and none of the new artwork shows up. What's up?

Correct please try an alternate Internet connection to obtain the update.  If you are using a wireless connection then try a wired connection.  If you are already on a wired connection try a different cable or a different source of Internet access.
As previously discussed the U43M1D204 is file size mismatch error.  If you are receiving this error it is because the download is being suspended prior to being completed.

Whenever I try to update my nano it only loads the first few
albums alphabetically and then errors out with the message "Attempting to
copy to the disk 'CLARE'S IPO' failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)"
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, i've made sure i have
the most up to date version and it still does it. I can't find any help on the rest of the Apple site.

  • Unknown error when trying to update nano

My girlfriend is having an error with her 4gb nano. Whenever she tries to update, she gets the following message: "Attempting to copy to the disk "april's nan" failed. An unknown error occured (-36)." She'll click OK and it'll say update complete, but most fo the songs aren't on the ipod. I tried restarting itunes (she's using the version that came with the nano) and it didn't work. Neither did restarting windows.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

I get the exact same error. Im able to add songs manually at a limited quantity but not in bulk or perform an update. I spent an hour on the phone talking to the Apple guy and I'm sending my ipod back. Let me know if you get it figured out.

  • Failed Updater - Nano Won't Run

I tried to Install the new updater for the nano. It failed because of an error. Now I get a screen with a folder, an exclamation point, and Apple's Web address. I have reset it. I have tried to run the older updater again but that won't run.
    Help

Same thing just happened to me...My guess is there is something wrong with the installer. I just received this replacement Nano from Apple today and when I hooked up to ITunes it said I needed to update the Ipod to V1.1. So now it is locked up and I am hearing that I need to send it back? We didn't even get to listen to music from it. The first one we had lasted less than two weeks and the second less than 2 hours. Is this a joke??

  • Updated Nano software - Library "grayed out"

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help. I have a shuffle and nano and have had no trouble to date synching with my windows xp itunes.
Tonite I installed the latest version of the nano software (1.10.2006), and now when I double click the nano icon in itunes, all of the songs and playlists are grayed out. I can update the ipod, but can't click on anything within the list. For example, if I wanted to delete a song on the nano, I can no longer do it.
    Any thoughts?

You probably just need to reset the iPod.
Try resetting your iPod by holding doen the menu and center buttons at the same time for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears.
You may need to try a few times.
If that doesn't help, try the 5R's.

  • Firmware update nano p

i have firmware version .0.03 on my nano plus. what are the biggest differences on firmware update, i solved no problems yet, so i would now if there are new options or something like that, if i update?!! or where can i read the changes in every update?
    kind regards
    duczilla

Is there any place that lists firmware changes? I'm curious.
I used to have a I-Ri'ver, and it had a ton of features, it was literally perfect, it couldn't be more perfect, but due to electricity running down the USB wire and toasting my USB controller and the MP3 player, i've said bye bye.
The creative does not much more than the basic functions of CD players, I think they should add SRS to it (like my I-ri'ver had), and the volume doesn't go loud enough.
I also would have appreciated a on-screen browser, but none, even the most cheap MP3 players allow you to vertically scroll through your music - I know the screen is small, but 3 lines of titles is possible.
oh, and my I-Ri'ver did visulizations (yes, it was black and white)

  • Updating Nano with part of the library

    Hello,
I already have an iPod where I had been synching the whole library. I'm now also using a Nano, which only has 4gb of space.
What is the best way of synching a couple of the playlists plus adding a selected range of songs?
I have tried dragging all of the songs that I wanted onto the Nano but then it won't update the playlists. If I set it for playlist update, then the songs that I 'dropped' onto the Nano disappear.
I am sure that there is an efficient way of managing it...
    Many thanks,
    Charles

    Charles,
I'd just create a new playlist with your "select range of songs" and go with syncing selected playlists. A number of us have created some schemes using Smart Playlists so that the music on our nanos is constantly rotating.
Think of it this way, if you could just drop your select group of songs into the nano, how would you play them? Through the nano's music library. So if you put that group of songs in a playlist and sync it to the nano, you can STILL play them through the nano's music library. The playlist is just a vehicle to get the songs onto the nano.
