Updating old projects

I bought a new Mac Pro and installed FCP 6. When I try to open projects created on the G5 , it opens the browser and viewer, but none of the video and the timeline is gone. The video was captured on a Pinnacle Cinewave card so that may be a codec problem, but why is the timeline gone?

YUP...Proprietary codec. Gotta have the Cinewave card editing system to see this. Without the card, you can't see the footage. That is both the POWER of the card (more RT effects because they are handled by the card) and the DISADVANTAGE of the card (unable to work with the footage on any other FCP system).
You are gonna have to keep this project to the older machine...or recapture it using a new card. The good news is that both the AJA and Decklink cards use the Apple codecs, so if something was captured with a Decklink, you can see the footage WITHOUT that specific capture card. Same with AJA. You MIGHT need the drivers, but those are available for download from the website. But they aren't proprietary codecs.
Sorry man.

  • How to update old projects/events FCPX 10.1.1?

So back when I updated FCPX to version 10.1, I updated most of my old projects and events to be consolidated into a new library. However, at the time I still left some of those projects/events in the "hidden" folder, so they were then placed in the "OLD FInal Cut Projects and Events" folder. I'm working locally on my computer because these are older, smaller projects.
Now, when I go into FCPX to try to update these old projects and events, it won't let me update them. When I go to locate into the "OLD Final Cut Projects and Events" folder, it is all greyed out and won't let me update anything. Does anyone know a way around this?? Seems counterintuitive that they've made the old projects/events obsolete, because now I need to work off them!
Specs: MBP 17 in. OSX 10.9.2, 2.53 ghz, 8GB RAM.

The app needs to see those projects/event in the right place and in folders named Final Cut Projects and Final Cut  Events, respectively. Those two folders should be at the root level of an external (non boot) drive and/or in your Home Movies folder on your boot drive.
If they are correctly named and located, FCP will see them when you chose Update Projects and Events from the Fiue menu…choose locate then navigate to the drive/folder.

  • HT6012 iMovie 10.0.6 not updating old projects after upgrade

I upgraded my kids iMac to Yosemite, and upgraded iMovie to the latest version. Existing events and projects weren't showing up, so I did the step outlined to update the projects and events from previous versions. My events are there, but the projects aren't. i've verified they are all there in the top level directory for Movies, just like the folder with the old "iMovie Events" but it doesn't seem to want to pull them in. Is there any other way to get my old projects into this new version of iMovie?

Hi I had the same issue and fixed it with deleting "UpdatedtoiMovie10" see step 4.
n the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Home.
    Open the Movies folder.
Move the “iMovie Library” file to the Trash.
Note: If you have imported content or created projects with iMovie version 10.0, do not delete this file.
In the iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders, you’ll find a file named “UpdatedtoiMovie10.” Move this file to the Trash from both folders.
    Open iMovie.
Choose File > Update Projects and Events.

  • Trouble updating old project files...

I'm running into mulitple issues trying to update an old project for a client....
The previous project was created in MX2004 and while trying to import the project into 11.5, I'm hitting all kinds of walls.
    1. Previous developed integrated INM Impressario into the project, and from my research, it seems that may have been discontinued.
    2. When attempting to update the movie and casts, Director is bringing up error messages  "Problem writing...." and "Having trouble saving..."
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used the Impressario Xtra a while back with Director 11.5 without any major problems.
It seems likely that you trying to use version 3 when you need to use version 4.
You may need to remove the Impressario parts of project before updating and then redo them.

  • Final Cut Pro Update - Old Projects & Events

Hi, Final Cut updated my folder structure (making it super confusing) and now I have a folder with a purple icon that has 4 stars that says "Macintosh HD's Projects & Events" and also a "Macintosh HD Old Final Cut Projects & Events" folder.
The "new" one is 315GB and the old one is over 500GB. Between the two I am now very low on harddrive space.
My question.... Can I delete the "Old" folder of projects & events? When I look at the new folder it appears to have everything in it, but I just wanted to make sure before I delected 500GB of projects.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Don't delete anything until the update process is completed and you are happy with the results.
A thing called Hard Links has occured that really uses little drive space.
It may appear that there are TWO large files but it's not really the case.

  • Updating old project - stuck on Livetype

I'm revising a project that is a couple years old. The last time I worked on it I was still using my Powerbook (stop chuckling! be nice!) I used Livetype for several titles. Now, on my MBP, livetype is not installed and is no longer part of the Final Cut Studio. How can I restore my Livetype titles?
I found Livetype app on my FCS1 disks, but I would need to install Rosetta to get this working on my MBP. Do i want to do this?
    Thanks for your help.

LiveType in FCS 1 deposits its own .pkg file in Library/Receipts so it should update.
Software Update uses stored .pkg files to determine what updates are available.
The highest you can go is LiveType version 2.1.
    I run a copy of FCS 1 with LiveType 2.1 on a G4 with Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Another respected member here recently posted that LiveType 2.1 also works without problems in Mac OS X 10.6. [See here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2689835&tstart=0].

  • Updating old projects problem

    Dear All,
I've recently opened a project made on an older edition of iMovie, not an ancient one (Probably iMovie 5, I'm not at my mac right now). As I now have HD (6 I think, or whatever the most recent upgrade is) it said that it would convert it. It did so rather strangely in as much as there's now a black band over the bottom third of the screen. So it's kind of no good. I tried with a copy of another year old proiject and it did the same.
What are my options here? Can I reinstall iMovie 5 and have it on a seprate disc or something to open dpecific old problems? Or is there a way to get round this (I suspect familiar) fault?
    Many thanks
    Dan

    Hi Tony
New problem to me. I would check up the version-mixes of:
    - Mac OS + iMovie + MOST OF ALL QuickTime !!!
    Mac OS X.3.9 + iMovie 5.0.2 + QT 6.5.2 = A very good mix
    Mac OS X.4.8 + iM 6.0.3 + QT 7.1.3 = Also a working combination.
I would open the iMovie project (the icon) and check that the imported video
    files are OK and then:
    - delete iMovie pref file
    - Run Repair Permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    - Start a new iMovie project - close it
    - and move the media files - manually into this - then restart and move in the
content in the trash-basket to the shelf or TimeLine.
Test and see if it is OK this way.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Updating old project sheets to new updated design?

Company re-branded when I joined, and I want to update all of our project sheets (architecture firm) to a new layout I created. I could do each by hand but we have 200+. Any help?

You found the right way to do it.  Never import an iPhoto Library into iPhoto. Just open the iPhoto Library by double-clicking it. You are lucky, that iPhoto prevented you from importing the iPhoto Library. It would have created a terrible mess of duplicate photos in all sizes.

  • Updated to 10.1 now old project opens in TextEdit instead

So I updated FCPX and libraries to 10.1.
My problem is an old client just emailed me to do a new edit on a project that was using the last version of FCPX.  No problem right?
It's on a portable hard drive.  I plug it in expecting an Update prompt and nothing happens so I find the project file and it opens in Text Edit instead of opening FCPX.
What can I do to update that project?  I have several hard drives just like this.

Hi Tom and Luis, thank you for your help.
The projects and events folders are at the root level of the external drive I have attached.  When I open FPX 10.1 my updated libraries (small projects on my internal drive) appear.   They look like 4 small purple squares and it seems as if they are loading from the "Movies" folder.
However, nothing else happens.  I am not prompted to update the (10.9) "Final Cut Events" folder or the "Final Cut Projects" folder that are located at the root of the external drive I have attached.  I have closed and reopened FCPX with no luck.
Should I create a "Movies" folder on the external hard drive and place "Final Cut Events" folder or the "Final Cut Projects" in that folder?

  • Updated Final Cut Pro X won't let me open old projects

Final Cut Pro X wasn't launching, so I updated it to the latest version. Now it's opening, but it won't let me open my old projects, and when I try to update my old projects to the new version, the app crashes. What do I do?

  • How to open old projects after updating FCPX

My old version of FCPX was not that old, but I recently updated it to 10.1.2 and it now has the libraries rather than events. After I clicked up update projects and events it has brought my old events into the libraries viewer, but I do not see any of my old projects. I was just wondering/hoping that I can still access all my old projects and where I need to go to import them back in. Many thanks for any help or advice.

No the projects were in the bottom right of fcpx and the events were in the top left. Yes I see now each of my hard drives is listed under 'libraries" and has all the events and import contents listed by name and then each one has a folder "updated projects" with what seems like all of my projects. So is there no way to associate the events and projects back together or at least under the same tab? Anyways, thanks for helping me find my projects, just seems like more of a hassle to get there: hard drive > Updated Projects > Project - rather than just pulling up the projects. I guess it's something to get used to. Is there any alternate way of organizing it or is this just the set standard now? Thanks again

  • Can't Update Old Final Cut Pro Projects

I use Final Cut Pro for work and just recently updated. I didn't realize that I needed to have all my projects in my "Final Cut Pro Projects" file while updating. I had a lot of my projects in a "Final Cut Pro Projects-Not In Use" file when I updated my Final Cut Pro and now those projects will not update. I didn't have a "Final Cut Pro Projects" file after updating so I created a new one under "Movies" in my Finder and added all the projects to that and Final Cut Pro still won't update them. What am I doing wrong?
Also, now that I've updated the projects are exporting as .MP4s and my boss wants them as .MOVs again. Is there a way I can change them to that?

I have been trying to add a screen shot to this reply for the past ten minutes but I keep getting "An error occurred while trying to submit your post. Please try again" So I will try to explain it to you.
I click the arow on the bottom right hand corner. Then click "Master File..."
    My settings are:
    Format: Computer
    Video codec: H.264 Better Quality
    Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Audio file format: QuickTime Movie (AAC)
    (don't click Include chapter markers)
    Open with: QuicTime Player (default)
On the bottom it reads left to right:
    1920 x 1080 | 23.98 fbs   Stereo (L R) | 48 kHz  00:00:04:02   MPEG-4 movie 10.4 MB est.
Then I click "Next..." and save it to my Desktop and click "Save"
I hope that makes sence! Sorry the screen shots didn't work!

  • Old Project Files

I currently have final cut pro HD, but found some old project files that I would like to re-edit that I created using Final Cut Pro 3. Unfortunately the project files just show up as a "Unix Executable" file and if I try to open them in FCP it says "Wrong Type". What can I do to update these project files so I can open them again?
    Thanks
