Updating on Low Battery Power

How much power should be available on the battery before my iphone (or ipad) will allow me to update?
I'm sure it would be better to update on full power.
I'm trying to find any FAQ or information stating that I'd need to have power to at least 50% before the update can be installed.
Somehow I experienced it earlier but I just need confirmation.

Thanks - I was quite sure it needs at least 50% - but I'm looking also for any other FAQ answer or reference to this point.

  • Erratic "Low Battery Power" shut-offs

    My I-Pod Mini is less than a year old and has developed a very annoying problem. Even with a full charge the unit will flash the "Low Battery Power" warning and then shut off. On some occassions the unit will turn back on within a few minutes and then play for a few hours. On other occassions the unit will not play at all. In the latter circumstance, I charge the I-Pod, but the icon will show that the battery is fully charged. It is then 50-50 as to whether it will play.
    To make matters more frustrating I sent my mini to Apple for service and got it back (completely erased) with a letter saying it operated within acceptable limits. So, now I have a mini that does not work well, and I am out shipping expenses - that doesn't seem right!
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    This sounds like my problem.

  • [SOLVED] Thinkpad T510, freezes on battery power

    My Thinkpad T510 will freeze after anything from a few seconds to a few minutes after boot. I cannot do anything except hard power off the laptop. Sometimes it freezes at the login screen, sometimes at the desktop. So far it hasn't frozen on boot. I'm using Gnome 3 and GDM. Laptop-mode which is enabled on battery and AC power. I'm using the nvidia graphics card with proprietary drivers.
    I actually had a similar problem to this before, where it would freeze on battery power but much less often, usually anything from 10 minutes to hours after boot. It seemed like that problem had been fixed, but it has come back much, much worse.
    I wonder if the updated Nvidia 302 drivers are to blame, but I have no idea how I might go about finding out.

    EDIT: I found the laptop will still freeze once it had reached low battery power. To fix it properly, I backed up and then replaced the entire contents of /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless with
    #!/bin/sh
    /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 power off
    I ran the laptop down to critical battery level and had no freeze.
    After hours of trawling Google, I *think* I've found a solution. At least it's been running for a good half hour now without freezing.
    To fix, open up /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless
    Find the section -
    case $1 in
    true) wireless_powersave on ;;
    false) wireless_powersave off ;;
    *) exit $NA ;;
    esac
    and change it to -
    case $1 in
    true) wireless_powersave off ;;
    false) wireless_powersave off ;;

  • Has anyone had a problem with low battery capacity on the 6th gen ipod nano?

    I got my dad a 6th gen Ipod nano for his birthday and he is complaining about very low battery power and i was wondering if other nano users were experiencing this problem

    Samething here.  I got my ipod nano on Christmas 2010 and I always thought that it did not have the 24 hours music playback capacity.  This week I had the ultimate test.  I had to go the hospital and knew I would be waiting a long time. I fully charged my ipod nano (3 hours connected to my computer)... then, I turned it on at 11:30 in the morning and I played the radio non-stop until 5:30 PM when it just stopped working.  That's 6 hours of music playback, not 24...
    Is there something I should know about the battery and how to charge it to maximise music playback??

    It kicks in at 3% on my 2011 MBA, I have seen reports that the % at which it appears can vary quite a lot, from 16% to 3%.
    Speculation would be it depends on the fitnesss of the battery?

    My rMBP's battery had fallen to 3% before I noticed it, and I never saw any popup warning.  I was not running anything fullscreen (just firefox covering part of the screen).
    Running your battery down to these very low charge levels will shorten its life, try to avoid discharging to less than 40%, try to stay on AC power as much as you can (all the time is better than your current useage profile) and only let it discharge when there is no other choice.

  • Low Battery Notification

    I'd figure that the iPhone would play a warning tone if the phone had low battery power. Did the guys in charge decide that it would be best to get rid of the sound altogether? Like most phones probably kill themselves by repeating the "I'm dying tone!" all the time.
    I think it would be a little convenient if the tone played on the reminder that the batter was low and at each point the phone would let you know (20%, 15% 10%...)
    Point being, is the iPhone ever going to have a battery level warning tone?

    Because of low battery my iphone 5 got switched off and than its not starting by pressing the power button or by keeping it on charge. While charging a white screen comes for 2 second and goes away. This process continues till the phone is on charge. Please suggest how can I start my phone.

    Hello Ritugor,
    I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
    Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    After at least 30 minutes, if:
    The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
    The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
    Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
    If the display turns on, go to step 4.
    If the display remains black, go to next step.
    Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

    Restore to factory settings. That will use the latest iOS and then restore from a backup.
    Never, never, never attempt an update/upgrade on any portable computer device without plugging it into its AC charger.

  • Battery, Power, Deep Sleep and Spotlight problems after 10.9.4 update

    Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 8,1 13in (Late 2011). I updated to the latest version of Mavericks (10.9.4) and iTunes on Sunday, right after that my macbook started to goes into Deep Sleep after closing the lid, even when the battery was 80% of charge. My battery normally lasts for almost 5 hours. After it went to deep sleep, the power bottom does not respond. Also, I have noticed that spotlight process in Monitor was consuming so huge amount of resources. This problem persists in Boot Camp. There is no way to turn the machine up without plugging it to the power cord. Sometimes it charges the battery as usual, sometimes it does not recognize the battery. Suddenly, the mac goes into sleep mode while I'm using it.
    I have researching and troubleshooting in order to fix this but no solution. I have reset the PRAM and SMC. I made a backup of my files and installed Mavericks from the ground with external storage in order to erase the entire disk, no solution. I made an Internet Recovery and downgraded it to Lion, it worked for 2 hours and then I upgraded again to Mavericks (10.9.0) and the same problem came again, the upgraded to 10.9.4 and no solution at all.
    I have searched on internet and there are other people experiencing this problem but nobody is able to bring a valid solution.

  • My iphone won't switch on. I've tried holding the power and home button more than 30 seconds up to a few minutes but it didn't switch on and went straight to recovery mode. It died of a low battery and i already fully charged it i checked with my itunes.

    i really need help here. I have only used my iphone for a month. my iphone won't switch on. it died of a low battery and i've already fully charged it and usually before it even fully charged, it will turn back on right but in my case nothing happened. i've tried holding the power and home button for 30 seconds and up to 2-3 minutes but no logo appear. it went straight to recovery mode. there's nothing wrong with my cable, i checked with itunes and  this happened once a week ago but it did switch back on after i tried a few times but now it just won't switch on. i also have problems with my screen as there's some noises to the screen (i hope you get me) and when i turned the camera on, it was as if the whole screen is shaking. i'm currently studying in the middle east and there's no apple store here so i cannot use my warranty. i will only be back home in summer. please help me what should i do to at least switch my iphone on first.

    I did a little bit of experimenting. I have an iPad original versions myself. I took it out of the box knowing that I haven used it in months and I expected the battery to be dead and sure enough the battery was as dead as I imagined it would be. For the first 30 minutes I experienced exactly what you are experiencing, but then the iPad suddenly powered up on its own (like it does when plugged into the charger) and I am using it now to type this response to you.
    My point is that I am starting tothink that your battery has suddenly died on you for some reason or you have a hardware problem now. I would still try leaving the iPad charge for a while longer - maybe even overnight - and then try again in the morning. Unplug the iPad and try resetting with the home and sleep buttons. Try plugging the iPad in again. Unplug it, try restarting again. Let it charge for a while again.
    After trying something like that, if it still will not start up, then I think it's time for a trip to an Apple Store and see what the Apple Techs think.

    If the Reset didn't work, you'll need to do a Restore.
    From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finished, you will be asked if you wish the contents of iTunes to be copied to the iPad.

  • X220 won't start up on battery power after BIOS update 1.24/1.25

    This is a really strange issue.
    I had been using my laptop with the oriiginal 1.10 (or whatever the very first one was) BIOS until yesterday with no problems. I head that there were some important fixes in the newer BIOS versions so I updated to 1.25. Everything seemed to be working fine until I went to work and turned on my laptop. It kept  crashing before Windows would load (after the post screen but before any of the windows screens. It just stays black for a long time and then flashes a BSOD and restarts). I tried downgrading to BIOS 1.24 but the problem persisted.
    It turns out that it does this whenever I try to start the computer without it plugged into the ac adaptor. When it is plugged in it starts up as normal but when unplugged it won't boot into windows. Once Windows is loaded I can unplug it and nothing happens but I still can't restart it without plugging it back in
    Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is this a known issue? Any suggestions for what could be causing this strange behaviour?
    If I can't get it figured out right away I will have to try to downgrade to the original BIOS version.

    LOL! I just tried updating to 1.28 BIOS and had forgotten about the problem I had last time (when I tried updating to 1.24/1.25). I was just looking up what to do and came across this thread. I took me way too long to realize I was reading my own post from months ago! Boy am I slow.
    I don't know if you are still subscribed to this thread Aamir but a hard reset is when you turn off the computer by holding down the power button until it turns off. Are you (were you) having the same issue with the newer BIOS versions as I am?
    I think that the x220 is an amazing laptop spec-wise but are there ever a lot of driver/software problems! I keep trying to use the newer BIOS versions but I always have to revert to the original because Windows 7 won't start if I am on battery power (so basically anytime that I am not at home). I just bought a mSATA SSD (which is why I tried to use the newest firmware, I heard that older ones don't support them) and though the BIOS recongizes it, now Windows won't start if the SSD is installed! There is not much use in having a laptop with lots of ports and expansion options if it doesn't work when you use them!
