It looks like the latest Alltel Treo 650 update requires the HotSync cable to install the update.

  • Syncing Palm Photo conduit with Treo 650

After much troubleshooting I have finally, successfully synced my Treo but only after I disable the Photo conduit. If I try to sync with it on everything syncs fine until I get to Media and then iSync crashes. I get a window asking me if I want to send a report which I have. Is there some kind of incompatibility I don't know about or is it a simple fix? Thanks

You need to do two things:
Post this message, or one like it, here instead:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=731
And, you need to resolve the issue with the Missing Sync for Palm OS, which works flawlessly for me and for many others, because iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit are very poor substitutes for the Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks conduits. As a traveling business user, iSync will simply make you crazy with its limitations and problems.
You must also be very specific about the information in your Sync Log, which should indicate what the issue is. We'll start over there with commentary like…
'All of my address book' just doesn't cut it: what specifically does not appear to synchronize properly? And, I'll point you to a number of resources based upon the specific problems your log reports or you explain in detail.

  • Ical stopped syncing to treo 650 and other quirks

I have been using ical with the palm software on my treo 650, but now updates to my calendar aren't syncing.
I don't know of any changes that I've made, and I think I have checked all of the settings.
I don't know if this is related, but a couple of weeks ago my ipod suddenly said "not configured to this computer" or something like that, so I had to delete my entire library of music and re-import it.
Also, the settings for Safari had to be reconfigured.
Hmmm....does anybody have any ideas why these programs are acting like that?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There have been widespread, unexplained issues involving iSync and Palm devices, many of them involving an inability to synchronize at all with iCal. I've seen no specific solution for such problems.
While I never experienced a complete failure of calendar information to pass in one direction or the other, I did have a number of easily demonstrated, repeatable errors crop up with my Treo 600 and iSync under Mac OS X 10.4 and iSync 2, which had never occured under prior releases. For example, the Unfiled calendar would periodically pop up, even though I had selected another calendar - Palm devices - into which Palm-created calendar entries were to be transfered. And, I was never able to synchronize more than three of what were then twenty-seven automatically created birthdays, in the Address Book generated Birthdays calendar. And there were a host of other issues, including the home vs work address label problem, the inability to synchronize more than one address, data duplication within records and occasional record duplication, and other annoying shortcomings.
I simply got fed up, and updated to The Missing Sync for Palm OS version 5. What a difference! All of the quirky iSync behaviors are now a thing of the past. While it seems ridiculous that you would have to install an additional third-party application to synchronize correctly, my experience with iSync - particularly since the release of iSync 2 and Mac OS X 10.4 about six months ago - tells me that it is.
If you are interested in exploring this comprehensive, long-term solution, you can find more information about that application here:

  • ICal, iSync, Alarms, causing my palm Treo 650 not to update

    Hi All,
Looked around a bit and didn't see a solution to this issue and was hoping to find some information of confirm that it is a bug and I am not going crazy.
A couple days ago I noticed that the events I entered on my Treo 650 were not getting synced to iCal through iSync. Upon looking closer, I noticed that the reverse was true as well: Events I added to iCal were not getting synced to the treo.
The iSync logs said that everything was syncing successfully despite the problem. I double checked my settings on the treo and in iSync to make sure the calendars were scheduled to sync. All 6 of my calendars were checked to sync. Since this was all working a couple days prior, I assume the settings were correct.
After resetting my treo and restoring a back-up in an attempt to get my calendar to work properly, I noticed that the calendars listed in iSync disappeared even though they still existed and seemed to work in iCal. iSync keep trying to tell me to open iCal to add a new calendar because there were none.
After more fiddling I was only able to get iSync to properly list my current calendars by deleting a specific calendar. When I removed it entirely in iCal(I backed it up so I could test things out), iSync would update in a matter of seconds but if I put it back, no matter what I did, iSync would not update.
Finally, I started removing specific events in the calendar. It seems when I removed all the events that contained "alarms" (which I had started playing with a couple days prior). The calendars would work again. So I suspect iCal alarms as a culprit.
I can make due without the alarms for now, but would like to start using them again. I was starting to schedule applescripts to perform specific activities scheduled through iCal.
Has anybody else run into this problem and/or found a workaround that allows you to use iCal with your palm/treo and schedule applescript alarms? Any advice would be great. Or, if you are having the same problem I am, check to see if you have alarms in iCal.

    Thanks,
    Michael

Verizon Wireless does not now offer—and has not historically offered—the Palm Treo 680. The Treo 680 is a GSM device, and not compatible with the Verizon network. Verizon currently offers the Palm 700p and the 700wx, and has previously offered various Palm and Windows Mobile devices beginning with the Palm Treo 600.
The anomalies you see are likely the result of issues with iSync and the iSync Palm conduit, and not with the device itself. With an advanced Palm device such as any Treo beyond the 600, you should instead opt to use either…
    • the Missing Sync for Palm OS, or
    • the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile
…selecting whichever one supports the operating system of your particular Treo. In your case with a Treo 680, that's the Missing Sync for Palm OS.

  • Palm Desktop seems to back up only select data from Treo 650

I recently transferred my Palm Desktop program and backup files from my old XP PC to my new PC running Windows 7 (64bit).  Aside from the frustrations of being unable to HotSync using USB, I was more concerned that that address & calendar files in my user folder were nearly empty.   My calendar contained 14 random events from within the last month and the address book contained three contacts (my Treo contains hundreds).  Each folder should have contained considerably more data.  I went back to the original user folder on my old PC and the saved data was no different.  Although hundreds of events & contacts appear on my Treo and in the Palm Desktop, my user file has less than 1MB of data in those respective folders.
Can I conclude that my monthly HotSyncs have been faulty all of this time?  Or am I looking in the wrong place for my complete data.  Until I find a workaround the Windows 7 problem, I want to make sure all my data is at least present on the hard-drive (even though I can't HotSync).
FYI, this is where I found my skimpy data:   C:/Palm OS Desktop/(username)/address   and   C:/Palm OS Desktop/(username)/datebook     .   The Palm Desktop is Version 6.2.2
    Thank you!
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Sprint)

An update to the above issue:   All of the datebook & address data IS present within the *.aba files within my user folder when opened via Microsoft Access.  However, when I import those files into Palm Desktop, only a small handful of events (28 out 5000+) and addresses (3 out 1000+) appear.

  • Outlook 07 synch to Palm Treo 650 Sync Conduit produces Contacts DUPLICATES in Outlook... Help!

I downloaded the Sync Conduit from Palm, ran a synch from Treo 650 to Outlook 2007 (Vista 32) and it created duplicates for most of my CONTACTS in Outlook 07, not all but most, wierd.
    Treo 650 (Cingular)   -  ( Palm Desktop 6.2 )  -   Outlook 2007 (Office 2007)    -   PC Dual Core Vista Home Premium
Can anyone help get Palm Conduit Sync to not create dups? I deleted all and tried it twice. There are no duplicates in the Treo or Desktop, never had a problem syncing to Palm Desktop, only to Outlook (I am converting from Windows Mail to Outlook)

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Te hotsync manager does not create duplicates.
You will need to clean up the contacts database in Outlook, hard reset your Treo, set the hotsync conduits to desktop overwrites handheld and then sync.
Click on the following link to the kb.palm.com webpage for the article regarding reset procedures.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887
There is a 3rd party app. that will remove duplicates in Outlook.
Here is the link to the site; http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/remove_duplicates/
One thing you may not be aware of is that Palm desktop 6.2 has the Outlook 2007 conduits already installed, you do not need to install the Outlook 2007 conduit update.
You may want to remove the 2007 conduit update using control panel.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

  • Treo 650 Update 1.05a -- do not download (at least not VZW custs)

Has anyone else had a problem with the VZW 650 1.05a update? I tried it and had some issues. It got into a continuous loop when trying to update / install the E911 portion. I called VZW support (Palm directs you to them). The support rep found that this is a known issue, Palm has no idea why it's happening, and the only way to fix it is to send a new phone. VZW no longer offers the 650 new, only refurb'd, I refused (because they can't guarantee the version, and 1.03 has issues, and we couldn't find the 1.04 update). So they offered to send a brand new 700p. I've not heard tons of great things about them, but it's my only option. There are currently no warnings on either website. This is just to serve as a warning--update your Treo 650 at your own risk!
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Verizon)

The upgrade to my Treo 650 was going nowhere either. I did the update twice and even did the hard reset with the same results, it just kept rebooting.
Today I called Palm and got a very helpful support person that got the problem fixed for no cost. Here are the steps.
    1. Back up everything!
    2. Remove your memory card.
    3. Do a HARD RESET. Clear it all out.
    4. Do a sync again but this time create a new user (ex. TEMP). You are trying to create a clean install with no additional software. With the default method your sw was being reloaded. If you are using another conduit (ex. Intellisync) make sure to change it to the new user name.
    5. Now do the upgrade sync process. The program will start doing a sync and then load the ROM upgrade and start loading it. It takes about 12 mins but it will complete this time. You should actually see the ROM upgrade message and a process bar.
    6. Finish the update per instructions.
    7. Verify your ROM version it should now be 1.05.
    8. If ROM is correct do another HARD RESET to delete TEMP user from Treo.
    9. Go into Palm Desktop and delete the TEMP user. (User: on the upper right corner)
    10. Reset your conduit back to your user name if necessary.
    11. Install your memory card (in case you write into it during sync (like Avantgo) )
    12. Do another sync and this time select your own user name.
    13. You should be back in business.
Good Luck, It worked for me and didn't cost me a cent.

  • Can't sync address book with my palm treo 650

About a week ago, my sync stopped working for my G4 and palm treo 650. the hotsync works via bluetooth and there are no errors. When I look at my contacts and calendar, no events or contacts have been imported for the past week or so.
I downloaded the latest palm update for 650 and tiger, still nothing.
    Any suggestions

Figured it out and it wasn't fun. I watched the console messages as I deleted groups and tried to sync with Mobile Me until no error msg was displayed. Then I restored AB from a back up and proceeded to delete contacts one at a time and check for errors until none were displayed. After deleting about half my contacts under the one group I finally found the one contact. I then did another AB restore, deleted the troubled contact, sync'd fine, then did another backup. I have no idea why that one contact was the problem as everything looked fine. Console msgs only showed a silly number as the contact, not the name, which is why I had to go through all this. But...it's fixed.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2.2 (Treo 650)

Palm Desktop 6.2.2 evidently was rushed out the door with features missing: No task (To Do) alarms; no contact (Address) birthdays; always opens full screen (an annoyance on my 23" wide screen monitor). Will this crippled version be updated, or is this the end of the line for Palm Desktop? If it will be updated, any idea when?
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Unlocked GSM)

Palm Desktop and Hotsync are no longer owned by Palm. When Palm was split into PalmOne and PalmSource, PalmSource got the software. PalmSource has since been acquired by Access Company of Japan, who provided an underfeatured version. Palm has no legal right to modify the software (unlike what they did to 4.1.4) unless they purchase the software from Access. There is no indication that Palm has any intention to do this as Palm is working on a new Linux kernel OS, which should be on new devices in 2009. Access is also creating a competing Linux based OS and probably has no desire to work on enhancing the minimal product they delivered to Palm.
Unless you are running a Vista computer, there is absolutely no sane reason to use the Access Desktop. If you are running Vista, I'd suggest you review a few threads about using 4.1.4 with Vista.

Post relates to: Treo 650 (Alltel)

I don't know about the Treo 650 software, but a similar answer DTfromBH gives has been erroneously repeated for Treo 680 CD software. First time owners have been told they can't get replacements. The Bonus Software was actually freely available for download on the Palm site, contrary to what many were told when contacting customer support.  Since the demise of MyPalm Beta, I don't know the location of the Bonus Software download page, but it was there & the apps could be downloaded individually.
A license to single use means one individual may use the software for himself on one device only; it doesn't mean the software can't be replaced. That license would usually tranfer to the new owner. One is likely to be prohibited from transferring the software to another owner of another device, but not a subsequent owner of the same device.  The hitch is that the device must be registered with Palm in order to be eligible to purchase a replacement CD. However, as I said the Bonus Software had been available for download on MyPalm Beta, as was the Palm Desktop.

  • Problem with treo 650 Palm OS Garnet 5.4.8 and Garnet development suit

    Hi All,
I like to develop application for Treo 650 having version Palm OS Garnet 5.4.8. But my installed Garnet OS Development Suit has default inbuilt sdk.
I have downloaded and installed latest sdk 5.6 for Garnet development from www.accessdevnet.com but how to integrate it with the suit ???
The built-in sdk is sdk-5r4 which uses TelephonyMgr.h for telephony but my treo 650 withdrawn supporting TelephonyMgr and uses other new library as I found in the PalmDeveloperGuide_PalmOs.pdf ....
"Treo smartphones have their own Phone library. The telephony header files
    TelephonyMgr.h, TelephonyMgrTypes.h, and TelephonyMgrUI.h are not
    supported in Treo smartphones."
And the inbuit sdk has TelephonyMgr instead of new telephony library. I have downloded and installed Palm SDK 5.6 found in accessdevenet.com but do not know how to integrate with Garnet development suit.
I can not start developing without the matching sdk.
    Please anybody help.....

  • ISync, Palm Treo 650, and my sanity

Just bought a Palm Treo 650 this evening and I'm having the hardest time.
Been trying to iSync via USB with mixed luck. I installed the software that came with the phone, made sure my HotSync settings were correct, and hit the Hotsync button on the USB cable.
Nothing happened for several tries. Was as if the cable was broken as the Palm just couldn't contact the computer and would eventually time out.
Then when I used the AC adapter along with the USB I got a different result. The Palm and Mac were now talking. But it did give me errors regarding the conduits being in conflict. So I changed the settings on some of the conduits and I finally got a successful sync.
Well semi-successful. Some of the stuff didn't seem to be syncing. Like some of my iCal entries. So I found an article showing how to drag some of the conduits to the Disabled folder. Which I did. And now ever since I cannot seem to get the the Palm and Mac to talk again. I get the "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" for a while and then the "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Would really appreciate some help/advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are apparently several issues in play here. So long as you are willing to live the the limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit and synchronize via only one path—either USB or Bluetooth, but not selectively moving back and forth between the two—you can configure iSync to synchronize contact data with the Address Book and calendaring and task data with iCal.
With the exception of non-conflicting conduits like Memos, you will be unable to synchronize at all with the Palm Desktop. [Palm conduits which conflict with iSync are those used by various models to synchronize contacts—Address Conduit and Contact Conduit—those used to synchronize calendars—Calendars Conduit and Datebook Conduit—and those used to synchronize tasks—Tasks Conduit and ToDo Conduit.]
Unless you thoroughly understand how this technology works, it's not a great idea to 'experiment' by moving conduits manually. A properly configured Conduits folder for iSync users should contain at least…
    • Apple [the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
    • Backup
    • Install
    • Memos Conduit [only if you want to continue to synchronize memos to the Palm Desktop]
    • any non-conflicting third-party or additional conduits you want to use
Other conduits should reside in the Disabled Conduits folder.
You add a Palm device, either via USB or Bluetooth, using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync. You set the synchronization parameters for your device in the drop-down configuration pane exposed when you press the Tungsten icon in the main window of iSync.
You did the right thing by installing the Palm Desktop software using the bundled CD-ROM that shipped with your Treo 650. But, you should have upgraded that application by applying the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
If you elect to upgrade your copy, just run that installer. Do not attempt to remove any existing components of the Palm Desktop. And keep in mind that though you may not choose to use it at all, its HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components are critical to the operation of iSync.

I've had a Palm Treo 650 for about 6 months. I've been receiving mail from my .mac account, but when I try to send, I receive various errors, including authentication.
Has anyone out there experienced the same problem? I suspect it has something to do with IMAP setup. I've tried both ports 25 and 587. Also, I've included my user ID in my SMTP server setup and have taken it out.

This may or may not help you...
I sync two computers through .Mac but don't use a .Mac email account. I've had a 650/Cingular for about 6 months. I use Apple Mail on two computers to poll two POP accounts with my ISP (Charter) and one IMAP account through my web host. I can receive mail on the 650 from all accounts with no problems. Sending or responding to messages on the IMAP account works fine through the 650, but I've never been able to do so with the POP accounts. I get the same error every time ("550 relaying mail to <email address> is not allowed"). It will let me send test emails to those POP accounts though! Unfortunately I don't have time to resolve the issue. Luckily my business account is the IMAP so It's not too critical for me to figure it out. I would try changing all accounts to IMAP to see if that would solve it, but I don't think Charter email works in IMAP.
