Updating plug-ins, about reaearching.

I know virtually nothing about how to manage/update plug-ins, I have several that say 'research' But when I research, it's so complicated I just don't understand what to do next, Help....
I am using Windows XP Pro 32 bit V 3.0

Firefox may pick up plugins that actually are not important to you, because Firefox picks them up from the Windows registry where external programs can freely list them. So... if you discover plugins with no known value, you might consider disabling them here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category
That probably will reduce your research burden.
Generally speaking, if a plugin is associated with another program, then you can keep the plugin up-to-date by updating that program. Adobe Reader and iTunes would be examples of that.
If there are plugins you're really curious about, you could post more information about those. On my test page, there is a list of your currently active plugins that you can copy and paste: http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/jstest.asp

  • Get Plugin Finding Service Error for weeks & weeks now - can't update plug-ins, need download .pdf doc, but says adobe unstable, plug-in needs update. now what

Want to download .pdf doc, but pop-up says it's unstable, need update plug-in. Tried to update, got error message, with "try later". Same for weeks now. Tried check for updates, Firefox is up to date, clicked update plug-ins... it tries, then again... same error message: "Plugin Finding Service Error. Please try again later".
Been so long now -- when becomes a mighty big question. Looked in forum, no joy.
Please, can someone tell me -- what's the go. I'm absolutely no good with computers, but this needs to get fixed. Should I stop using Firefox or what?
    Thanks for your help.
    Happy 2013 to all.
PS. (added a couple days later)
I'm told I should have added my next question in reply to TylerDowner here, instead of as I did. Sorry if that's so (really?) but I didn't even realize I could edit this.
So... TylerDowner, thanks very much for your reply, and please would you -- or anyone else who might be able to help -- see my first reply to you below. (seems a waste to slot in here again)
    Feelin even dumber, (ha-ha)

Tylerdowner -- >> thank you << for your reply, and my sincere apologies for this delayed response (probs, hospital, blah-blah, you don't want to know).
Have tried to download via that link but not sure if successful. Very slow dial-up connection is the pits. Waited hours 'n hours, fell asleep in chair even, finally had to give in and go to bed, left it going. Server does time out every 8-12 hours, so not sure how long it went. The download appeared complete -- ie, did not show any note of failure. Not sure if it would -- some things in the past haven't.
Anyway, had success downloading one much older .pdf file, but the link for one I wanted had expired, and I don't know anything else to try. Tried a couple of other links I have, not sure of age of file -- on clicking link, the browser opened, but nothing more happened.
Wondering -- is the download available in separate pieces instead of one big one? Perhaps worth trying again that way?
Please, if you would be forgiving, and persist with me a little further/longer -- would you make your recommendation/s for next step/s please?
Hope you're in a safe, comfortable place. So many places in the world suffering with extremes of all kinds.

  • Can't ck for updated plug-ins. Firefox just circles endlessly.

can't access msn jigsaw puzzles. Wanted to check for updated plug-ins. Fox circles endlessly for up to 2 mins., never connects.

The instructions are not contradictory, since you reported two different issues:

    <blockquote>
Your '''Java(TM) Platform''' plugin may be disabled in the Firefox Add-ons Manager Plugins list, since I don't see it in your list of plugins. [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1130896 Bug 1130896] - Plugin check gets stuck if Java runtime disabled and Java Deployment toolkit enabled.
To enable the Java plugin, see the article, [[Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites]] under [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-java-plugin-to-view-interactive-content#w_enabling-java Enabling Java]. That article also explains how to update Java, if your version is outdated.
    </blockquote>
I wrote that because you said you ''can't access msn jigsaw puzzles'' but you didn't give a link to that problem website. I was assuming the problem site needs the '''Java(TM) Platform''' plugin (which is DIFFERENT from the "java deployment toolkit" plugin) to be enabled and working. If the '''Java(TM) Platform''' plugin is outdated and vulnerable you need to update it. The article I linked above has more information.

hello donnaofmaryland, please try the following: go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > plugins, set the "java deployment toolkit" to never activate and then try to use the plugincheck page again...
    </blockquote>
This advice was to get the [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugin Check] page working. Only thing, I just tried that page and it isn't working at all for me. The PluginCheck website could be having problems. You can also update Java by going to java.com directly or you can use the Update option in the Java Control Panel (details in the article [[Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites]] which I linked to before).

  • How do I update plug-ins so that I can get pictures and open my emails again?

    Hi,
I can't read my emails anymore without having to click on "Run This Time", so I want to update plug-ins since it
says that Adobe flasher was blocked because it is out of date, but it doesn't work!

What is your operating system & version?
    What is your web browser?
What is your installed Flash Player version?

  • How do I update plug-ins?

I received an InDesign CS5.5 file and it says I can't open it because I need plug-ins or latest version, but I have 5.5 (installed about two years ago, version 7.5) and it looks like all my Extension Manager plug-ins are checked. I can't find anywhere in Preferences to do auto plug-in updates. Help. I'm on a MacBook.

How do you know it's a CS5.5 file?
It's most likely a file from a newer version of InDesign, InDesign Cs6 or InDesign CC.
Go back to your source and ask them for a IDML file using File>Save As and also a PDF so that you can check text issues, like reflowing of text etc.

  • Updated plug-ins, you tube/life stream still stopping and starting

My computer has always run you tube video/life feed fine. Last week it started starting and stopping, I updated adobe plug ins yesterday, it was running great. Today it is stopping and starting again? Any Advice? I've run anti-virus scan-- fine-- restarted it twice.

    Heya,
I integrated the 3 scripts: uidRangeFilter, gidRangeFilter and freeId in the install-script as functions. Some error-checking is missing ... You can try and if all conditions are fullfilled it will install. All conditions means (I think) a free uid below 1001 and a free gid below 101. Maybe some other things ...
You can change the range in which the values are choosen in getFreeUid and getFreeGid (although I could pass the values as parameters to these functions ...). Normally if all goes well, the asterisk-user won't show up in your login-console normally.

  • Problems attaching photos using hotmail, also cannot update plug-ins

i used to be able to attach many photos to my hotmail emails.
i always reduce the size of the pics so i can attach 20 or more... now it will only attach 1, maximum 2 images.
i was told that i may need to update my plug-ins but when i go to firefox's Plug-In Check page it will not load, saying that it cannot find the server.. however my internet connection totally fine..
what do i do to fix these 2 problems??

Plugins are used from the Operating System, but Firefox often attempts to show them and to check them.
#First of all use the firefox menu to ensure your plugins are all enabled.
    # then use [/plugincheck]<br/> that will sometimes show an old Java as disabled for safety reasons, but then includes an update link <br/> note the page scrolls and provides general information and further instructions
Presumably you already have a firewall and other security software, you may need to check whether they block downloads or updates.

  • Non universal updated plug-ins?

hello, dose anyone know if there is a way to use plug-ins that are not universal bianary updated in Logic Pro 7.2 on the mac pro intell machine?
or do i have to wait till the companies update the plug-ins.
I'm using NI Komplete 3, GPO GJBB, GMedia's m-tron and many others...

You have to wait, unless you want to run Logic in Rosetta, and suffer horrible performance in Logic and all your plugs.

  • I received a message to update plug-ins so tried following directions, only to find out my computer is not compatible with the update. How to delete ?

I have an older iMac operating on Mac OSx 10.4. When I attempted to down-load some plug-in updates, they would not accept it because my computer is to old and doesn't have the necessary capability. When I try to remove the message, nothing works, and every time I boot the computer with Firefox, it keeps reloading. Please tell me how to delete this plug-in reminder. Thank you.

You can inspect and modify some prefs on the about:config page to suppress the plugin reminder.
*set the plugins.hide_infobar_for_missing_plugin pref to true
*set the plugins.hide_infobar_for_outdated_plugin pref to true
*set the plugins.update.url pref to an empty string

  • After my last update, plug-ins are blocked..how do I resolve this?

Since the last "update" I keep getting the Plug-in blocked message and can't use the "back" function on many others.  How do I correct this problem?

There seem to be a numer of Apple Support communities and NONE of them have fixed it. I guess I'm using Firefox now... #ifstevejobswerestillrunningthings...

  • Firefix won't allow me to download files to update plug ins.

Firefox crashes and shows that plug in has crashed and needs to be updated. When I go to update the plug in download box appears empty so I cannot donload file.

Safari usually will download files that it can handle itself or files that can be handled by another app on your iPad. What type of file is it not downloading? Perhaps if you had an app that could handle the file type you could download it.

  • Have tried 3 days to update plug ins. Keep getting error: Plugin Finding Service Error We've encountered an error. Please try your request again later.

I am working with Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.13. I went to Tools, Add-ons, Find Updates. But I cannot get the page to load. All I get is "Plugin Finding Service Error" "We've encountered an error. Please try your request again later." I have tried several times in a day for 3 days.

First of all, thank you for posting about your issue. We are glad to assist you, also Mozilla does care about it's browser even though it is free. Have you seen [[What is plugin-container]] for assistance?

  • Updating plug ins from CS2 to CS3

I have written a grifics intense book in the trial version of CS3 (which has expired.)  I was given CS2 Premium but cannot open my documents because I am needing to "update" plugins.
How do I do this?  and where do I get them?
    Cheryl

What program? If it's InDesign you'll need to save the file back via INX.

  • Why, after updating plug-ins thru firefox's system [specifically adobe acrobat 10.1.4.38] it doesn't recognize it and says I need to update ?

This has been happening on & off for awhile. I've tried updating thru firefox, uninstalling & updating in firefox, and within acrobat. It says its updating but the version doesn't change & can't find any evidence it did. Even uninstalling it still reinstalled 10.1.4.38 - the same version I've had since started using firefox.
By the way, today I updated 'Shockwave Flash' thru same place & update said it still needed to update (cant remember which version it said) but I had disabled ''Shockwave for Director'. When I enabled it the update stopped saying it needed Flash update.
Any chance there is a link between Acrobat & something else similar to the 'Director' that will assist in update recognizing it? A distant cousin-program?

Thank you so much jscher2000. You must be a '''God of Geeks''' cause nobody would tell me what they are all for & whether I needed them or not. And there you just rattled them off like it was no effort at all. You are my lucky day - the kind that only happen once a year. Thank you, me & my freshly broken leg will appreciate it and now I'm downloading that Secunia program. Gonna find them buggers and fix my 'puter good! HAHA! 8)
