Updating Podcast to to make searchable

I just posted a Podcast and now I would like to add some key words that make it easier to find.In the techspecs area I found that you can add <itunes:keywords> to the feed and add your key words after it. However, I do not know where to go to edit the feed, is it through itunes somewhere or is it on the site that is hosting my feed? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Roger,
I made the change the day you posted the reply to this post. So it's been 5 days already...
The URLs I copied into the original post came from Podcast Maker, I just pasted directly from the software. The new URL/feed is the io.creative one - the address is on my iDisk which I got with my Mac Me.com account.
Podcast Maker allows to feed directly to the 'sites' folder in the iDisk, does it automatically. The old URL feed is on a friend's company server. But now that I have this iDisk I thought best to move over the podcast to there.
Thanks for the example. So i paste it into the top line of the channel section in the old .xml file? Do I leave the original feed address in the file or replace it with the new one? This area is not very clear in the Apple docs online.
I have both podcasts at the Lemonz website
New Feed:
http://www.lemonzdream.com/podcasts/?feed=http://homepage.mac.com/io.creative/Po d-stories/podstories.xml
Old Feed:
http://www.lemonzdream.com/podcasts/?feed=http://www.larasethno.com/podcast/pods tories.xml
Of course at present the new feed is not yet on the iTunes directory.
Cheers, Marc

iTunes updates podcasts each hour but won't refresh. When I sync my iPhone, it gets yesterdays podcasts and I have to manually hit refresh to make it update. How can I make it automatically refresh?

I think figured out what is going on here... If you have set your Windows OS time manually, Apple iTunes will not honor the time you set in Windows XP...
In my case, I had not applied the Windows update that changes the Daylight savings rules. No big deal I thought... I can easily correct the time manually. Well... iTunes will not like it if you do that. You have to have your daylight savings rules set correctly on the PC. Microsoft has a free program called TZEdit that will let you adjust the DST boundaries.
Once I set the rules correctly and then set my time keeping back to "Automatic" it fixed it. Hope this helps...

  • ITunes stops updating podcasts / iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?

    Hi,
My iTunes is set to automatically update podcasts and keep the last five episodes of each podcast.
However, iTunes appears to stop updating podcasts after several (five?) unwatched episodes and gives me an exclamation mark in the podcast overview. Clicking on that, I get the message: "iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?"
This is not what I intend... and not  what I  told iTunes to do... (at least this my reading of the below settings)
This stopping is rather less then ideal: (1) if I am going away for two weeks, which I often do, I would still like to have the last five days of news, not the last five days of news back from the date I left, (2) I need to click update for approx. 20 podcast on regular basis, (3) my iPhone is synced to iTunes as soon as I come home, if iTunes does not have the podcasts downloaded, they are not copied over to the iPhone, and the iPhone will attempt to download the episodes via 3G next time I play the podcast on the go, (4) I am mainly using iTunes functions, such as smart playlists and podcasts, through another app (Plex, a fullscreen media player) and it is a pain to have to go to iTunes to manually do things. That is why this bothering me...
How can I get iTunes to behave as intended? (From reading through old posts I know that there is a Doug script adressing this problem, which I have just set up, but I would prefer to use internal settings if possible... maybe I am just missing a setting)
    Thank you for your ideas!

Thank you for the response, Roger!
OK, that's how it is then.
The iTunes podcasts settings should be reworded in that case because it suggest something different from what it does. And, of course, it would be ideal for Apple to make this more flexible and allow users to set up their podcast downloads in their way and not be so motherly (c'mon, Apple, your users are not as dumb as you think, and they have uncapped Internet connections these days anyway)...
Btw., for anyone interested, this is external script I am using now:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=updateexpiredpodcasts
Including the "cron job" setup here:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/2011/12/updated-update-expired-podcasts-v2-2-and-l aunchd-project/
Cannot tell how well it works because I have just set it up, other members of the forum say it works for them...
If anyone knows of in-app solutions, please share...

  • 11.3 update, podcasts won't update

Updating podcasts had stopped working, so I updated to the latest release (11.3) but it still doesn't work.
iTunes shows "last updated" as current time, so clearly thinks it's updating, but it's not. Sometimes, the update arrow spins round endlessly until I quit the app, but mostly it spins once, accomplishing nothing. I've tried manually updating an individual podcast, nothing; I've tried (from suggestions in other forums) unsubscribing then subscribing again, but it makes no difference.
When I first tried to view all my music by "songs" after updating, the window was empty, with no songs showing in the main music list and in all playlists. They did appear when changing to another view (e.g. albums). This only got fixed when I dragged a new mp3 into the window, and then they all appeared.
Any suggestions other than downloading an alternative app?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MediaLibraryService
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Unable to update podcasts in iTunes 9 if all files are gone

I updated to iTunes 9 today. I have discovered that if there are no episodes in a podcast, then I can't update the podcast. I have to leave at least one episode in there and then I can right click and select update podcast. If I delete all episodes and right-click, the only two selections are now "Show description" and "delete".
Prior to this, once I deleted all episodes, I could still right click and select update podcast. Is this a real bug and if so, should I downgrade to the last version of iTunes before this update?
My thanks goes to anyone who can assist with this enquiry.

I immediately noticed this same problem after upgrading to iTunes 9. The only workaround that I've found is to click Refresh in the bottom right corner, but this updates all of my podcasts.
Also, I'm still trying to figure out the re-structured Podcasts tab. I want to sync all episodes of all podcasts to all of the appropriate Smart Playlists on my iPod, but the only way to do that is to use the "selected podcasts" option rather than "all podcasts" like I did in iTunes 8. That does not make sense to me.
It doesn't seem that Apple thought through these podcast changes very well for iTunes 9.

  • Updating Podcasts on iTouch Wirelessly

How come you can go on the iTunes store and download songs but you can't wirelessly update your podcasts?
C'mon Apple in your next update add a soft button to podcasts called 'Update'. It would make your awesome iTouch that much more useful!
    Thanks!

    Hello.
I agree that it would be great to be able to update your podcasts directly over WiFi using the iPod touch, however there is a workaround if you're desperate. You may find it a little awkward if you're used to using iTunes to discover podcasts, as it involves going to the podcaster's Web site but it does work.
The Safari browser on the iPod touch has RSS reader functionality so you can listen to the latest podcasts over WiFi by doing the following:
    1) Make a Bookmarks folder in Safari on your iPod touch to hold your podcast bookmarks. You might want to call it something like 'Podcasts'.
    2) Visit the Web sites of your favourite podcasters (such as BBC, NPR etc.) and look for the RSS link or icon for the podcast. Note that this is not the same RSS feed usually as the news headlines text feed of these sites and usually have a little orange RSS icon
    3) Click the RSS podcast link or icon in Safari and you should find that Safari's RSS reader page is displayed with a list of all of the current podcasts for that podcaster.
    4) Below each podcast entry you should see a small play button. Clicking this should cause Safari to begin to buffer then play the selected podcast episode.
    5) After the podcast is finished playing, hit the Safari back button to go to the main RSS podcasts page and bookmark this, making sure your put it in your new Podcasts folder so all of your podcast links are stored together.
You should be able to hit the sleep button on your iPod touch while the podcast is playing to save your battery while listening. I've tried this with audio and video podcasts and it seems to work fine. The down side is that you cannot save any of these podcasts - you can only play them when you have WiFi access - however at least you can gain access to them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes does not update podcasts mac

My itunes no longer updates podcasts.  Last successful update was 7/14/14 for one podcast and 7/11/14 for others  v. 11.3 (54).  Clicking on the ! does not work.  In some cases it freezes iTunes.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Unfortunately it did not work out. It downloads the file and then after a while "processing the file" and the it gives the message "timed out make sure you're connected to internet"

  • Has Podcast "Update Podcast" as a contextual menu item been moved?

Has "Update Podcast" been moved down the 'right click list'? I've recently found myself hitting "Mark as Played" when I'm intending to update the available files and I'm pretty sure I'm not going crazy or senile, but it's completely screwed up my podcasts.

an89ag I know what you mean… I have nine TEDTalks video Podcasts that I downloaded from the TEDTalks' web site that, when added to iTunes, show up as Movies instead of Podcasts. From the iTunes "Get Info" they are identical to the TEDTalks Podcasts I downloaded from iTMS. These are episodes that are unavailable via iTMS, either because they were never made available or they have since been deleted.
Not all of the video Podcasts I downloaded from TED do this. iTunes and iTMS recognized about five of them, duplicated the other fifty (which was a whole other problem!) and that leaves the nine orphans that I cannot get added properly to the Podcast Library.
Apparently there is an invisible tag that iTunes reads that indicates what kind of file it is and where it is supposed to go. It isn't iTunes fault if the maker of the Podcast tags it wrong, but it would be nice to have the option in iTunes to correct these hidden tags.
Anyone have a solution for correcting the hidden tags? … Besides Lostify and vID_Infiltr8, which do not have the Podcast stik.

  • What ports does iTunes update podcasts over?

    Hiho
Lately I never succed in updating podcasts while using my 3G data ISP. I suspect they block ports. What ports does iTunes require to download new podcasts?
    /peter

    Hi Jan,
I am sure the Apple Doc is right.
The Doc was originally written for iChat 2 when you could only chat 1-1
Obviously with an eye on the future, and of the potential for the data traffic to get busy in some locations, allows for the extra ports allocation.
If you are in a 4 way Video chat then that would be 16 ports.
Now in iChat 2 Audio chats used to make use of the same four ports. But as 10 way Audio chats are possible it seems likely this has been changed in multichats to use all twenty ports.
    ( I am also sure that 16384-16403 is 20 ports )

  • HT1918 I can't seem to update my apps or make any purchases on from my account. Nothing has changed with my credit card information and for some reason the iTunes Store tells me my information is incorrect. What do I do?

I can't seem to update my apps or make any purchases on from my account. Nothing has changed with my credit card information and for some reason the iTunes Store tells me my information is incorrect. What do I do?

    Yes, it's frustrating.
I don't have my iPod with me but, as I recall, the change is done in Settings/Store.  That change will apply to NEW purchases.  However, be aware that all purchases are permanently associated with the Apple ID that was originally used.  Generally, it's only a problem when you need to update an app.  IF you do your updating from iTunes and your logged in to the "wrong" ID, you'll need to log out and back in again.  It's easier from the iPod as you do not need to log out/in but you do need to know the password.
Unfortunately, you can not merge IDs nor can you transfer purchases from one ID to another.  Go here to find out exactly what you have.  I have the same problem so I deliberately made both passwords identical to make things slightly easier for me.

  • I can't update podcasts after updating to 11.2

Widows 7 64bit. When I click the update button, things start normally for about 2 seconds then stalls. After about 3 minutes, I get a Windows message saying iTunes has stopped responding and closes iTunes. If I have task manager open while I try to update, it's obvious there's a memory leak. Memory usage gradually climbs up to about 3GB and then Windows intervenes. I've tried deleting SyncServices and even tried renaming the "Apple Computer" folder. The folder gets recreated but I still can't update podcasts. Ideas?

  • HT1399 Installed ITunes 11.1.0.126 now updating podcasts no longer works correctly.

I use ITunes for my subscribed podcasts.  The daily podcasts I get comes in three separate podcasts for the whole show and gives me the option to download all shows that I have not downloaded in the past.   Hour 1, 2 & 3 would update when I selected to update podcast for all shows that had not been downloaded in the past.  Now with the ITunes update, ITunes only updates the latest podcast which is hour 3 of the most recent show.  It no longer allows me to get all three hours nor previous shows that I have not downloaded.  I have tried all the various settings and nothing works.  I am not sure why ITunes was made to work less than before, but I don't know how to get it to work properly again like it used to.  If anyone can assist, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm having the exact same issue with this version of iTunes.
I have podcasts dating all the way back to 2006, my library is unmanageable now.
With a previous unrelated iTunes issue, the "repair" option in the "Add or Remove programs" (under Windows XP) fixed my problem but not this this time.

  • Firefox will updage. I get this message: Something is preventing firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version

I get this error message: Something is preventing Firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox. I have uninstalled and re-installed. It did not work. Support tells me to click on Firefox at the top. I have no word at the top which says Firefox. I have the Firefox icon.

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
