Updating PodCasts

Trying to update Podcasts returns the error - There was a problem downloading "podcast name". An unknown error occurred (-50). Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again.
All podcasts had been updating fine until 4/3/10 and network is working fine. Does not matter what the podcast name is. I have reloaded latest version of iTunes and resubscribed to the podcasts but the problem persists.
Thanks for any help.

  • I can't update podcasts after updating to 11.2

Widows 7 64bit. When I click the update button, things start normally for about 2 seconds then stalls. After about 3 minutes, I get a Windows message saying iTunes has stopped responding and closes iTunes. If I have task manager open while I try to update, it's obvious there's a memory leak. Memory usage gradually climbs up to about 3GB and then Windows intervenes. I've tried deleting SyncServices and even tried renaming the "Apple Computer" folder. The folder gets recreated but I still can't update podcasts. Ideas?

  • HT1399 Installed ITunes 11.1.0.126 now updating podcasts no longer works correctly.

I use ITunes for my subscribed podcasts.  The daily podcasts I get comes in three separate podcasts for the whole show and gives me the option to download all shows that I have not downloaded in the past.   Hour 1, 2 & 3 would update when I selected to update podcast for all shows that had not been downloaded in the past.  Now with the ITunes update, ITunes only updates the latest podcast which is hour 3 of the most recent show.  It no longer allows me to get all three hours nor previous shows that I have not downloaded.  I have tried all the various settings and nothing works.  I am not sure why ITunes was made to work less than before, but I don't know how to get it to work properly again like it used to.  If anyone can assist, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm having the exact same issue with this version of iTunes.
I have podcasts dating all the way back to 2006, my library is unmanageable now.
With a previous unrelated iTunes issue, the "repair" option in the "Add or Remove programs" (under Windows XP) fixed my problem but not this this time.

  • ITunes stops updating podcasts / iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?

    Hi,
My iTunes is set to automatically update podcasts and keep the last five episodes of each podcast.
However, iTunes appears to stop updating podcasts after several (five?) unwatched episodes and gives me an exclamation mark in the podcast overview. Clicking on that, I get the message: "iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?"
This is not what I intend... and not  what I  told iTunes to do... (at least this my reading of the below settings)
This stopping is rather less then ideal: (1) if I am going away for two weeks, which I often do, I would still like to have the last five days of news, not the last five days of news back from the date I left, (2) I need to click update for approx. 20 podcast on regular basis, (3) my iPhone is synced to iTunes as soon as I come home, if iTunes does not have the podcasts downloaded, they are not copied over to the iPhone, and the iPhone will attempt to download the episodes via 3G next time I play the podcast on the go, (4) I am mainly using iTunes functions, such as smart playlists and podcasts, through another app (Plex, a fullscreen media player) and it is a pain to have to go to iTunes to manually do things. That is why this bothering me...
How can I get iTunes to behave as intended? (From reading through old posts I know that there is a Doug script adressing this problem, which I have just set up, but I would prefer to use internal settings if possible... maybe I am just missing a setting)
    Thank you for your ideas!

Thank you for the response, Roger!
OK, that's how it is then.
The iTunes podcasts settings should be reworded in that case because it suggest something different from what it does. And, of course, it would be ideal for Apple to make this more flexible and allow users to set up their podcast downloads in their way and not be so motherly (c'mon, Apple, your users are not as dumb as you think, and they have uncapped Internet connections these days anyway)...
Btw., for anyone interested, this is external script I am using now:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=updateexpiredpodcasts
Including the "cron job" setup here:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/2011/12/updated-update-expired-podcasts-v2-2-and-l aunchd-project/
Cannot tell how well it works because I have just set it up, other members of the forum say it works for them...
If anyone knows of in-app solutions, please share...

  • 11.3 update, podcasts won't update

Updating podcasts had stopped working, so I updated to the latest release (11.3) but it still doesn't work.
iTunes shows "last updated" as current time, so clearly thinks it's updating, but it's not. Sometimes, the update arrow spins round endlessly until I quit the app, but mostly it spins once, accomplishing nothing. I've tried manually updating an individual podcast, nothing; I've tried (from suggestions in other forums) unsubscribing then subscribing again, but it makes no difference.
When I first tried to view all my music by "songs" after updating, the window was empty, with no songs showing in the main music list and in all playlists. They did appear when changing to another view (e.g. albums). This only got fixed when I dragged a new mp3 into the window, and then they all appeared.
Any suggestions other than downloading an alternative app?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MediaLibraryService
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Unable to update podcasts in iTunes 9 if all files are gone

I updated to iTunes 9 today. I have discovered that if there are no episodes in a podcast, then I can't update the podcast. I have to leave at least one episode in there and then I can right click and select update podcast. If I delete all episodes and right-click, the only two selections are now "Show description" and "delete".
Prior to this, once I deleted all episodes, I could still right click and select update podcast. Is this a real bug and if so, should I downgrade to the last version of iTunes before this update?
My thanks goes to anyone who can assist with this enquiry.

I immediately noticed this same problem after upgrading to iTunes 9. The only workaround that I've found is to click Refresh in the bottom right corner, but this updates all of my podcasts.
Also, I'm still trying to figure out the re-structured Podcasts tab. I want to sync all episodes of all podcasts to all of the appropriate Smart Playlists on my iPod, but the only way to do that is to use the "selected podcasts" option rather than "all podcasts" like I did in iTunes 8. That does not make sense to me.
It doesn't seem that Apple thought through these podcast changes very well for iTunes 9.

  • Appletv not updating podcasts - has apple sold a product then dropped support after 1 year?  May 2014

appletv not updating podcasts - has apple sold a product then dropped support after 1 yera?  May 2014 - None of the podcasts are being updated on appletv.  Running itunes 11.2 and it shows podcasts there.  Apple looks more like windows every day.

Before blaming Apple, was any troubleshooting actually attempted?  If so, what was done?
Or was it simply easier to jump to conclusions?

  • Error updating podcasts and itunes store

I upgraded to iTunes 8.0 recently and after that, even though i have internet access, i can not get to the iTunes store and update podcasts. please help

    Hello a.mcintyre.rn,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Music, Podcasts, and iTunes Store app on your iPad.
I recommend following these steps for an issue like this (you can skip 4 because it does not relate to the issue you are experiencing and any other steps you may have taken):
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
You can find the full article here:

If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPad before performing the restore:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Manually updating podcasts in 7

I may be missing something but I can't find how to manually update podcasts in 7.

This doesn't work for me. I manually add podcasts (i hate syncing) but they do not appear under the "music" or the "podcasts" icon. They used to appear, along with music, under my ipod icon in itunes6. This served as the ipod's library and i could manage everything from there.
If I manually add podcast to my ipod icon (I can't to the podcast or music icon) it disappears into the ether. The podcast is transfered to my ipod but I can't find it through itunes. If I add it to say a "podcast" playlist i can access it there, but deleting it from the playlist does not delete it from the library.
I am at a loss as to how to find these files with itunes7 as I usually do delete them after listening to them. Unless I go back to itunes6 i'm going to end up with a lot of garbage on my ipod i can't easily delete.
If anyone has a clue to this I'd love to hear it.

  • Updating podcasts results in iTunes freezing

Updating podcasts results in iTunes freezing
iTunes works until it searches for new podcasts and then it stops working and shows the spinning beachball of death.

  • How to update podcasts?

Hi, I just updated to iTunes 11.1.  Ugh. The interface continues to get worse... but to my question.
So, previously in iTunes, to update my podcasts I would right click on the name of the podcast and click "Update podcast".  iTunes would then update and show me a list of episode titles, and I would then select the ones I wanted to download and download them.
That option is now gone - that is, "Update podcast" doesn't appear when I right click on the podcast name. And I can't find an equivalent action anywhere in the menus.
I don't "subscribe" (because I want to download only select podcasts). So I can't for the life of me figure out how to update my podcasts.
I've noticed that for a few podcasts I can go to the iTunes store to download the ones I want, but many don't provide a list of the latest episodes, so this isn't an option.  And bsides having to go to the store to do the update is a pain in the ***.
    So... any ideas?
    Thanks!!!
    Elisabeth

Is the lack of answers because there's no solution?

  • 20gb iPod dock won't update podcasts, playlists with iTunes 7.02

My 20gb ipod with dock won't sync properly with iTunes 7. Not all of the podcasts will transfer from itunes to my ipod and my playlist with podcasts can't be updated. Any ideas what might be happening? It only started when I updated to iTunes 7.02
imac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I think the problem is more of a corrupted library data file than the actual program. Ok, so the update/grade to 7.0.X problaby caused the corruption, but after starting over with a new iTunes Library (data, not XML) file, everything seems to be working fine with 7.0.2. My whole story is below:
Ok after my early elation of having my ipods up and running (and not useless pieces of expensive junk), I ran into more problems when trying to sync. It seemed like the ipod was locking up and when I tried to eject, then iTunes would lock up. I tried with my current 7.0.2 version. I rolled back to 6.0.5. I could add some music without any problems, except that I lost all my playlists since I had to start with a fresh library. So I tried to use my most recent library file (obviously that didn't work since it was in a newer version format). So I went back to my last 6.0 library (in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder). That's when all the frustration started. My iPod kept locking up (meaning an erase (sometimes with zeroing out data - a 2 hour process!), restore, update, and crossing of fingers). I tried this process with several different iTunes libraries under 6.0.5 and the result was always the same: a lot of cussing on my part. So I figured, what the heck lets try going back to 7.0.2, it can't get any worse than it is right now, I mean broken is broken, regardless of the iTunes version. I tried the sync manually, no playlists, fresh version of iTunes library, fresh iPod (erased & restored). Those songs transferred ok and speedily. So I tried more songs and then the entire library (still no playlists). That worked well. So then I tried adding a playlist. It worked too. More playlists, still working. The only thing that I haven't done is: updating podcasts, and I stopped the "download artwork" process (kind of pointless on a monochrome iPod).
Hope my story helps. Other than the extremely irritating loss of time (and the new, colorful vocab my 2 year old has), the loss of my playlists isn't too major: they needed a reorg anyway. But for serious iPoders (DJ's, Nike+ users, etc.) this loss could be a very big deal.
Apple should have tested more thoroughly. Their haste to counteract the fair share hack, has caused more problems with the majority of legal users, than it solved with the minority of hackers.

  • Windows Vista Network Issues when updating Podcasts

    Hi there,
Since upgrading to VISTA i am experiencing countless problems with my internet connection when using iTunes. Using iTunes normally does not cause a problem however as soon as iTunes store downloads updated podcasts, my network connection disconnects. The podcasts only download partially and then fail as a result of my network issues. I am unable to repair my wireless network connection at this point and it appears that my wireless card disables completely. I have to reboot to resolve the issue.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am using the latest version of iTunes.
    Are there any fixes?
    Many thanks,

Try turning off firewalls, pop-up blockers, software accelerators, and security software.
Can you connect with everything temporarily turned off?
