Updating QuickOffice on N95

Hi,
My phone's (N95) softeare was updated to ver. 15. My QuickOffice, which used to be a full version, turned back to a reader version.
How can I get rid of the default version and open the way for an upgrade?
Ran

I have always thought of quickoffice as being the best of all other apps in its group. I was then forced to find out and tried out quickoffice 5.0. I was disappointed to discover that actually it has serious problems and not worth the price. It is not easy to insert (if at all one can) a chart such as bar or pie chart. Text editing is a problem since one is required to continue changing between number and letter editing as one moves from cell to cell by pressing and holding # button which is very irritating for me. Quickoffice also fails to read some files done by other applications such as officesuite as it says they are corrupt. If I were to recommend an office application to someone now I would pick on mobisystems' officesuite 4.6 which even has a trial period. The only problem with officesuite 4.6 is that it becomes slower to scroll as one zooms out on a page or sheet. Also it is impossible to remove the menu and signal strength bars that show at the bottom and top of the screen in landscape orientation. This is my observation and I hope that I an not wrong. I would appreciate if someone can advise and if someone can give a user manual for quickoffice 5 on n95. Thanx.

  • Update suggest for N95

    Hello.
I would like to suggest to make somekind of update for Nokia N95 Multimedia buttons. They seem not to work with other softwares than the music player.
It's hard to use some landscape mode programs which need both hands to use (For example pressing numbers and arrows keys at same time is pretty annoying.)
The programs can't see those music buttons available for use. It would be so much easier if you could even use two of the multimedia buttons.
I'm not sure if this kind of update would be possible to make through firmware update or is it hard to make but it would help a lot.
PS: On the other way the phone is really great !

    Things to do.
(Uninstall first all nokia* progs in add/remove progs in control panel)
    1. Install new version of PC suite 6.86
    2. Install NSU 1.43.6
    3. Turn off your phone
    4. Make a hard reset by pressing 3 buttons; green button (for calling and answering call), *-button and 3-button. (note: ensure that you press the three buttons then turn on the mobile. It will ask you the region/country, current date and time if the hard reset is successful).
    5. Open the NSU then update your phone.

  • No update for my N95 8GB? PLEASE HELP!

I have tried and tried downloading updates through NSU but it keeps on saying there are no updates available. My phone firmware version is V15.0.015. Please help, I really want to download the update. thank you.
Message Edited by goddess33 on 10-Sep-2008 04:09 PM

Availability of firmware updates is by Product Code and nothing to do with the camera freezing. All N95-2's may look the same but they do differ slightly with the different product codes. Updates will usually be released first for the product codes of non network branded phones in higher volume regions such as Europe and than slowly filter out to the other regions. Network branded phones are usually the last because the update requires the networks prior approval. It is obvious that the firmware update is still not available for your product code.

  • Updating software on n95

i have just starting putting the new software on my N95 but is seems to have just frozen saying it has est of 15 to go. that was 1 hour ago what should i do? i have tried shutting down the window but will not allow me to as the update is ongoing.
Im scared that i will not have use of my phone.

Exactly same problem, with identical message. My phone switches off after about 25 mins. Have tried deleting and reinstalling Software Updater - same result. Hasn't done any damage to phone, though, despite dire warnings on screen - but only way of shutting down Software Updater is through task manager (Vista). Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Lack of firmware updates for the N95 8GB

Does anyone know what the latest firmware is for the N95 8GB?  I've unlocked my phone from Vodafone but the updater still says the latest version is 20.0.016 but there are numerous posts talking about version 30?

As stated in his first post he has unlocked his phone. Also there is no point even phoning Vodafone. I spent around 2 months speaking to them trying to get an update for my N96 which never came. I was then also told they were under no obligation to do it either. Only option for me was to get the vodafone branding removed, so glad I did as he phone is much quicker now.

  • Updater broke my n95 8g

i was using nokia software updater to update my n95 8g's software, i started it and went into the other room to warch tv, i came back and annoying windows xp logged me out, i read that you shouold not disconnect it so i was worried at this point.
my phone seamed ok, i ran the software updater again as i assumed it did not complete. it started, then disconnected by itself, and noy my phone only displays a white screen.
this is very annoying as it is only a month old and cost alot of money.
does anyone know how i can fix my phone or have any help.

    Hi jimmypee69
Unfortunately this probably means that a visit to a Nokia Care Centre is now required. If you have not already done so it might be worth removing the battery for 10 minutes replacing and just see if Nokia Software Updater can recognize your phone, although I am not very optimistic in the circumstances.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Updating firmware for N95

I've installed the latest software updater and tried to update the firmware for my N95 (RM-159). It says I'm running version 10.0.018 and that there are no updates available for my phone yet everyone is talking about version 12. Am I doing something wrong?

clarification on the branded question - Did you buy a "sim free" phone (meaning that you got the phone as it was delivered from Nokia) or did you buy it from someone like Vodafone or O2 or something similar?
As if you did the latter there is a chance that the vendor has "changed" the firmware so that they then can decide what is the best firmware to use, And they would test it internally before releasing it to its userbase. That would be the reason for why your phone says that there is no newer firmware as they would control this "check".

  • N95 Firmware update (v13, v20... whatever it's sup...

Seriously don't hold your breath for too long... Nokia are truly awful at this, they treat the customers who buy their most expensive handsets with such apparent contempt it is nothing short of disgusting.
I bought an N93 which was quickly superceded and completely forgotten about. To this day it is riddled with bugs and problems, as well as lacking so many features which were added to later models of phone when there was no reason other than Nokia not providing an update or releasing the software as individual updates.
The N95 is not much different unfortunately. It is unstable and full of bugs, including frequent crashes, abysmal memory availability and management as well as annoying things like the the system ignoring key presses every so often. For all those people who don't experience any of this, lucky you! There are far too many people who do however...
I'm sure some bright spark will come on here and point out in some way how I'm wrong, that Nokia are too busy working on new phones, that we've had a firmware update or two already for the N95 or something else. The simple fact is that Nokia are marketing the N95 as a computer, even to the point of the having the advertising slogan "It's what computers have become" but in fact they are treating it like a throw away mobile phone. Even Microsoft provide better and more frequent updates to their system than this! And that really is saying something!
What a shame that they have locked down the system so much, there is a tonne of talent out there in the opensource community who could make this potentially amazing platform truly outstanding. Nokia sure as hell don't seem to have the inclination!
When will you get your firmware...? It has been over 4 months now since they last updated the N95-1. I am beginning to get the feeling that this one has just been chucked on the heap as the N93 was... the parallels between the N93/N93i release and the N95/N95-8GB situation are rather strong. After 10 years as a loyal Nokia customer I won't be making the mistake of choosing them again!!
The supposed October 28th deadline has come and gone. I have emailed Nokia 5 times and been ignored, for over 3 months now. I have called everywhere I can and get the stock response "we don't know that" or "we only get told that a few hours in advance". Assuming any of that is actually the honest truth, it makes Nokia look pretty poor in their organisation of information and product support.
The sad fact is that even IF this firmware comes out, the chances of any further updates are extremely slim. Of course you could argue that there is a lack of commercial incentive for this. The N95 platform is so jammed full of technology that it has the potential to last for 4-5 years as a perfectly decent phone and mobile computing platform, with the right system updates of course. The industry makes no bones about the fact that it wants people to upgrade every 12-18 months, it's how they make their money. This is not conspiracy theory, just a sound bit of reasoning as to why we're not going to get a long stream of support for this phone.
I read with interest that Google are launching an open platform and SDK soon. Much as I am wary of google, being the corporate giant that they are, this at least is the beginnings of a truly open platform which hopefully users will be able to work with and improve in the way that manufacturers like Nokia simply don't want to. That is of course until the phone manufacturers who move to this system lock it down like Apple have done with the iPhone and prevent free enterprise and development.
I know we live in a capitalist society, but sometimes consumers are pushed just a bit too far. It is NOT acceptable, nor environmentally friendly to push out and make obsolete technology which costs as much as a reasonable spec entry PC once a year on us.
I doubt Nokia will read this, even if they do it'll just go ignored like all the other complaints from the customers they have let-down like this.

I'm sorry but "be patient" is just not sufficient here. It has been over 4 months and these are some MAJOR bugs in the phone.
Let me detail my day so far with my N95, for those of you who are not familiar with these problems or who think that perhaps this is just a disgruntled customer who has an overinflated sense of importance.
All of this is on an N95 replacement (the first one's earpiece broke) which I have had for under 2 weeks now. It is the latest firmware and there is NOTHING installed on it, it is as it comes...
    * Full charge overnight with the phone off.
    * Switch the phone on.
    * Check my emails (I was sent a small mpeg video (700k) which I download to the phone.
    - WiFi connection is lost 4 times and I'm within 3 metres of the aerial. N95 fails to find my access point for as long as a minute after losing the connection, when everything else in my house can see it.
    * Check FaceBook mobile in web browser.
    * Read BBC news headlines in web browser.
    - clicked on 3 minute news video headlines, realplayer loads up, runs out of memory to play the video. Realplayer closes, taking the web browser with it.
    * Try to play the video I was emailed. N95 doesn't support uber-standard MPEG files, so...
    * Browse the web again, searching for how to play the MPEG.
    - someone suggests renaming the file to .3gp to make RP load it. I'm dubious but it's worth a go. I go to the menu to access the file manager. I rename the file and click on it, still no joy.
    - I close the file manager and go back to my browser, except not - it closed without warning because the memory ran out (presumably)
    * I give up trying to browse the web and lock the phone.
    * I need to make a call. I press the buttons to unlock it and mess up the timing (my fault completely)
    - I keep pressing the buttons in quick succession in my impatience (which is just pointless I know, but I was in a hurry and fumbling with it).
    - Having pressed the buttons about 8 times the phone unlocks but the screen goes dark.
    - I press the camera focus/shutter button lightly to "un-sleep" the phone. It lights up for 2 seconds and goes dark again.
    - I repeat this 3 times and the phone switches itself off!!
    * The phone restarts automatically but once rebooted is slow and laggy, missing keypresses all over the place so I have to switch off then on again... it is normal (as normal as it gets) after this.
    * I go to my PC and write this!!!!
Absolutely ALL of this is stuff the phone is supposed to do with its hands tied behind its back. I have not used any 3rd party software and never tried to use more than 2 applications at a time - the N95 IS a multitasking phone and so should handle a lot more than this!!!
This behaviour was present on the previous handset too, on both the firmware versions it had on it during its life. My current handset came with an 8-point service engineer inspection saying it was in full health...
Be patient? Even if I was prepared to mutely wait for 4+ months patiently whilst such dreadful bugs plague the phone, I am an N95 user who is concurrently paying off a contract on an N93 phone, costing me £200 ($400 US) in monthly rental for a phone which became unusable (due to signal issues on the network when I moved house to a different part of the country). Be patient? It is now about 14 months since I got the N93 and just over 12 months since the firmware was updated on that (I quote from the firmware date on my N93). Nokia dropped that one like a hot stone and completely screwed everyone who had bought it. Be patient? You must be kidding me! When Nokia, despite an all-singing-all-dancing website cannot ever be bothered to make even the most non-committal of announcements about firmware on it's own forums, why on earth should I be patient? I understand as a programmer myself all to well that things can slide and problems can delay things, but at this point I can't even find solid information to say there will be another update for this, let alone when it MIGHT arrive or what it will HOPEFULLY include... and as I said in my original post, I have telephoned and been fobbed off and had 5 emails ignored (not including the ones about the N93 which were also ignored). And yes, I did get the received message report from Nokia's own system saying someone would come back to me.
I'm sorry to rant at you, I'm sure it's not your fault but be patient? Just not acceptable any more!

  • Can't install Share Online 3.0 update on N95-4!

    Hello,
I am trying to install the Share Online 3.0 update on my N95 8GB NAM (N95-4), and no matter what I try it doesn't work. When I try to install it, I get the error message "Unable to install. Component is built-in". I also tried a hard reset, and even reinstalling the firmware on my N95-4, but still get the same message! Any idea what could be wrong here??

    Hi All,
Thanks a lot for your responses.
Now I am able to install but after successful installation of Oracle iPlanet web server_7.0.9_x64 in RHEL 6_x64, the configuration is failing.
I tried to trouble shoot the issues according to the error message displayed in the install.log file.
Every time after fixing one issue (by installing missing library files) I am getting another issue.
After fixing many issues, now I am getting the below error message in the install.log file for which I am not finding any solution:

  • N95 Firmware Updates

Anone care to explain the following.
From the Home Page, Click on >
Get Support & Software then under > Make your choice >
    Phones and devices,
Click on the arrow for the drop-down
choice of phones, and choose the Nokia N95
(not the 8GB) Choose the N95 and then
    Click on the Go Button
Then under the big flashy purple advert,
Click on > Update your Nokia N95
Then read the text under >
    Update your Nokia N95 software
    Here is states:
    Software version 20.0.015
for your Nokia N95, enhances your
device's battery, stability and performance etc.,
Is this version still available? and if so,
how do I get it. Also, why is it
that when you follow the links to the Software Updater
for the N95 it comes up with Version 21.0.016
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The information on nokia's site sounds like it's a bit out of date. Some of the regional sites can be a bit slow.
The latest version is v30 which released a few days ago.
When you use the nokia software updater it offers you the latest version thats available for your specific phone, based on it's product code.
The latest version isn't always available for all product codes, especially those that belong to network branded models. This is because the networks have to approve new firmware before nokia can distribute it.
If the updater offers you v21 or v30 there is no way to choose an earlier version instead.
The best (and most up to date) place to see which update is available is here:
