Updating Safari to keep pace with AOL and IE?

Hello:
I have noticed that AOL and MS have just made updates--OpenRIde and IE--which do not appear to support Mac users. Also, Firefox is in the process of being updated, but don't know if it fully supports Macs.
In view of these developments, does anyone know if AOL, MS, et al. are planning to continue to support Macs on a current basis with their new developments, AND, is APPLE considering, or in the process of, updating Safari to match or exceed these other upgrades?

You're welcome.
Apple's approach to Safari has been to make new features available only in the latest OS, that is not available to older versions. Reasons are probably economic, as well as pragmatic (would require changes to the operating system necessary to accommodate changes to Safari's engine.)
If you want to make your opinion known, you can send feedback to Apple here.

Update Safari 3.1.1 disables youtube and flash viewing in general

There appears to be a theme emerging on these forums of updating safari 3.1.1 causing youtube and flash video content to not display even after uninstalling Flash and reinstalling.
I have tried to reinstall 10.4.11 combo update as well as Safari 3.1.1 which always fails. I recently had to do an archive and install.... and computer was working beautifully with Safari 3.1 now after update BUG City!!!! Mozilla and Netscape work just fine with flash content. I have deleted plist Safari... repaired permissions etc, etc to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas at all???? This is really annoying Apple.... do you hear me?

Just to let you all know I had to ...unfortunately..... archive and reinstall my OS ..again for the past time in two weeks...to fix the problem. I now have everything working again with Safari except I have yet to update with 3.1.1. (I now have version 3.0.4.) I have re updated to 10.4.11 combo PPC still no problem but I am definitely fixing permissions after each update and checking things more meticulously. I'm not sure if I should update to 3.1.1..a little gun shy now. Anyway, I tried every thing posted to fix the problem and the reality is that Archive and Install was the only fix that really worked. Sorry!!! The update with 3.1.1 originally looking at the reports must have corrupted the Webkit and core systems in OSX. Any feedback I hope this helps all of you with the same problems with Safari. Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive. Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

Updating to 10.4.6 with AOL dial-up

I've been trying to update to 10.4.6 (from 10.4). I use dial-up (sadly) AOL, and am having trouble keeping AOL running, without kicking me offline, when I'm trying to download the update (which takes about 7 hours). It keeps logging me off, and then I have to restart the download. Is there any chance that I could start the download off where it stopped? Or do I have to keep totally restarting it? It's done this twice now, both about 3 hours into the download. Argh! Geez, would I love cable or DSL! Thanks in advance.

Are you downloading thru Software Update or from the Apple Download website About the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update (combo)
I use AOL Dialup as well. I downloaded the 10.3.9 (117.6 MB) Combo update the other day.
My first attempt cut off after about 6 hrs & 15 mins.
The second attempt was successful at 6 hrs 30 mins!
The second download I did after midnight.
Check your settings in System Preferences > Network > Show:Internal Modem (Or however you connect) > PPP > PPP Options:
Make sure Prompt every xx minutes to maintain connection, and
Disconnect if idle for xx minutes are not checked.
If you have a friend or relative with a high-speed connection, they could download the update, and burn to CD, for you as well. It can even be done using a Windows box.
Additionally, libraries, bookstores, etc, may have computers available for use with high-speed.
If you have access to a portable computer, some internet cafes also offer high-speed hookups for patrons. Some may charge a fee, but some may be free to customers.

I am a CC member.
1- I can not find the chat support.
2- I need LR5 but my app says no updates, even though I am only on 4.
3- This site sends me in circles and my app is no help whatsoever. I have now updated to OS X Yosemite v10.10, and need LR5. I purchased CC for this reason, but I still don't see how to upgrade. AprilThisWay it is likely your Lightroom issue is related to having the incorrect Adobe Application Manager/Creative Cloud Desktop application installed. The current release version is 1.8.0.447. You can find additional details at Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud app for desktop | Release Notes.
I would recommend utilizing the uninstall instructions available in the link referenced in message #7. Once you have run all the available uninstallers available in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder then please use the CC Cleaner Tool. Updating Safari to 2.0 with Mac OS X 10.3.9

I use Mac OS X 10.3.9. I would like to upgrade Safari to the 2.0 version, but I can't because I don't have Tiger. Is it possible to update Safari without updating my operating system? I can't view some webpages because they don't support this version of Safari only the newer version. I am using Safari version 1.3.2. Thanks!

Safari 2.x is only available for OS X 10.4.x, so if you wanted or needed it you would have to upgrade your OS. If you want or need an alternate or backup browser, you could try either Firefox or Camino.

OUR IPOD KEEPS SYNCING WITH ITUNES AND WE CAN'T SEEM TO TURN IT OFF. WE WANT TO MANUALLY COPY SONGS FORM ITUNS PURCHASED GROUP TO THE IPOD. I LOOKED AT ALL OF THE MENUS AND CAN'T SEEM TO FIND A SETTING TO CONTROL THIS.

It is - came over from a Droid (was a former 3G user)... forgot how smooth and seamless the iPhone experience was. The Droid was nice, and Android is interesting, but the iPhone is so much simpler and easy. I hacked the heck out of the Droid, and it's so nice to be back on a smooth, "just works" phone.

Acrobat 7.1 update over 7.0.9 with GPO and Active Directory

Hello all.
Our environment is Windows 2000 sp4 for clients and Windows Server 2003
We have been using two AIPs for Acrobat 7.0.9 (Pro and Standard) deployment, customized with Install Shield Tuner for Acrobat 7. When we patched them to v7.1.0 using the MSP file extracted from the exes released for this purpose, the resulting packages could not be marked for redeployment in the GPO. Facing this, we decided to add the new 7.1.0 packages as new packages under the same GPO. Under "Packages that this package will upgrade" appear all the previous 7.0.9 versions and surprisingly for Acrobat Standard appeared Acrobat professional 7.1 and we were unable to remove any them. For computers receiving for the first time the package everything is fine, they receive version 7.1 as expected, but for those which had any v7.0.9, even though the application event viewer says that the v7.1 is an upgrade over 7.0.9 and that v7.0.9 was removed and that the upgrade went ok, the help/about of the application still reports v7.0.9.
Have we done something wrong?
ps. for a while it seemed to work, but now it seems to be failing as reported above even though nothing that we could notice had changed in our environment.

I use a different version of Acrobat, so didn't pay much attention... but I do know this has been discussed before, with a solution

Updating a Documentum virtual document with insets and graphics

(FM11 with the EMC Documentum connector.)
I understand that the EMC Documentum connector to FM11 creates the "virtual document" resource in Documentum from a FM book and its dependent files. The creation of the virtual document happens when the book is first uploaded from FM11 through the CMS interface to Documentum.
That works for me.
How do I add referenced graphics to, or remove referenced graphics from, a chapter of the book so that the virtual document resource is automatically updated during check-in, check-out, or when I click on a control (that I don't see in the interface) ?
Will a workflow cause the EMC Documentum interface do that?
Or do I need to perform all additions to and deletions from the virtual document through, as an example, the Webtop interface?
Backstory
From work of a colleague last year, I inherited a book with referenced graphics.
The book and all of its chapter files reside in Documentum. A Documentum "virtual document" resources enables me to check out the book so that it and all dependent files become available.
The structure in the Documentum tree, and on the workstation Documentum cache, is similar to this:
_Book at top level
_Graphics folder at top level
_Chapter_1
_Chapter_2
I have successfully:
Created a graphic file and stored it in _Graphics on my workstation desktop (not the cache)
Uploaded the graphic to the _Graphics folder in Documentum through the Repository Manager.
In a _Chapter_# file, added the graphic to the chapter by reference. Using the Repository Mananger, I selected the graphic file from Step 2. The "progress bar" in FM indicated that FM was downloading the graphic file to the cache.
Saved the chapter file.
Checked in the book through Repository Manager. All of the chapter files and graphics checked in as expected.
Checked out the book through Repository Manager.
Opened the _Chapter_# file from step 3.
FM asks me to identify the location of the new graphic file.
I check the Repository Manager. The new graphic file is not checked out, no apparently it is not part of the book virtual document resource.

Yes you can change the word document, then make a new PDF then replace the form with the fields with the new PDF.
If you are careful and do not change the position of the fields then it will fit right in.
If you change or add fields then with Acrobat you will have to rearrange the fields to match.

Tabs and windows keep opening with adverts and downloads which I can't stop

New tabs with adverts, downloads etc keep opening on firefox also new windows trying to get me to install supposed repair tools (eFix Now). Have run ADWCleaner, Malware Bytes, TDSSkiller, uninstalled adn reinstalled firefox but not getting anywhere... help greatly appreciated!

...Actually think I've resolved it this. Unistalled Firefox again, then on a search I found some Firefox folders which I deleted and then I reinstalled and it seems to be okay now.
