Updating Single Edition app after May 1

I have an existing Single Edition app in the app store that is in use by thousands of students across the country. I know that Adobe is dropping support for Single Edition Apps. If I recreate my app using a different publishing platform (Twixl, mag+, etc) will I be able to update my existing app or will I have to submit it as a new one?
If I can’t update the existing app with a new publishing platform, existing users will be forced to purchase the new same app again.

Thank you Bob for all your help in the forum over two years while I completed my app. So sad it had to end like this. Hopefully the governor will call before May 1 and give a stay of execution and save me and a bunch of us. Have a great day, -Dan

  • Updating Single Edition Apps

    Dear members,
I've got one question referring the Adobe DPS SE and updating a published app.
In the FAQs I came across with the following statement:
I have Single Edition. Can I update the content in my app?
Yes, you can update the content in your app after it has been submitted and approved by Apple. If you are a Creative Cloud member, you can update the app for as long as you have an active membership. If you purchased a Single Edition serial number for US$395, you have one year to update the content, after which your Single Edition license will expire and you will no longer be able to rebuild your Single Edition application
Is it correct that a developer who purchased the SE licence won't be able to update a published app after one year? Is there a possibility to update the app by purchasing a new licence then?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Best regards

Is it correct that a developer who purchased the SE licence won't be able to update a published app after one year? Is there a possibility to update the app by purchasing a new licence then?
Yes,you would need to purhcase another Single edition License and you would recive a new Serial key using which you can build and update to the app and submit it to Apple.

  • Updating single edition app

I need to update a single edition app. Do I need to recreate mobileprovision files?

You need to rebuild your app again in DPS App Builder, create new version on iTunes Connect and then submit new version of app to iTunes Connect.

  • Publishing apps after may 1, 2015

I have understood than with the CC plan You can publish iOs apps directly to iTunes withount paying per issue. Now I read that this is valid untill May 1, 2015. Does anybody know how one can publish apps after that, and what the cost will be?

    This was announced in November.
Unfortunately after May 1, you’ll need to have a full DPS license or know someone that has one, in order to create or update Single Edition apps.
There are several threads on this topic already. Here's one: The end of DPS Single Edition

  • Is there a way that I can add tracking code (like google analytics) to a Single Edition app?

Is there a way that I can add tracking code (like google analytics) to a DPS Single Edition app? If not, does the apple app store offer any analytics for a DPS Single Edition app after it is published there?

  • Update an Single edition app with different (pro) account

    Hello,
I have question regarding updating SE apps.
    1. From what I understand you can still create single edition apps for ipads after May 1st with a pro account, correct?
    2. If I create an app now, with my CC account, can I later, after May 1st, create a professional account under a different name (company name, not mine) and update my old app? (assuming that my apple account and certificates stays the same)
    Thank you
    Alex

    1. Yes.
    2. Yes.

  • Updating serial number single edition app?

    Hello,
SO I designed an app for a client. They wanted to use single edition. I built the app out and put in the serial number from adobe. After building out the app and testing it we realized we needed to make some changes. SO the changes have been made. Everything is finalized and approved. I went to rebuild the app. I can't, it needs an updated serial number. Ok, not a problem...I asked this question on this forum earlier and was told to contact tech support and they would handle this.  They haven't helped at all. They said that the single edition doesn't support updating an app. They said that we need to use the professional edition. Look, I understand why they don't let people constantly update the single edition app. But we haven't even published this app to the Apple store yet. We built a test app and upon realizing we needed to fix a few things, want to just simply update it so we can actually publish it. Everybody we talked to today has nothing to offer in terms of help.
We called the sales phone number. They have no idea what is going on. They don't even know the cost of the professional Edition. We ask them for a page where we can look at pricing. Oh guess what, that page doesn't exist yet. I guess they haven't gotten around to having a page where people can compare pricing options.
The client is getting frustrated and so am I. Can anyone help me contact someone who knows what they are talking about as far as reissuing a serial number for a product that hasn't even been used to publish an app in the app store yet?
And yes, I know that the CC subscribtion makes more sense. I didnt make that call. The client did. He made it based on the non-help of the sales team at Adobe when he decided to make this app. Just looking for a little help from anybody so we can wrap this project up.
I have already suggested the next time that he join the CC. That doesnt help us right now.
    Thanks.

Hi 5rockets I've PM you with more details

  • Updating a Single Edition app already on the App Store

If a DPS Single Edition app is submitted to the Apple app store, can it be updated every couple months with new content or will Apple restrict that? For those users who have already downloaded the DPS Single Edition app, will those users automatically get a notification that a new version of the app is available at the App store? Basically, I have a client who woud like to create a Single Edition publication app with DPS but they want to roll it out with one article at a time and continue to add to the same app/folio. The folio/app may get some additional changes to the cover and TOC. Is that all possible? and will users be notified when the new app is available?

Thanks. There's a lot of work that goes into one of these things. It's
not something you can just throw together.
Apple reviews them pretty carefully. It is always best to spell out that
you cannot be held responsible for a rejection of an app by Apple, but
at the same time, you need to educate yourself and your client on what
    is and isn't acceptable.
There is a gray area and I've seen some pretty nice apps rejected, but
often they will be approved on an appeal.

  • Can't update Single Edition DPS app

    Hi,
I have created an app following this process:
Created inDesign file. Added folio overlays.
Added open document as Article in new Folio.
From folio builder panel, clicked on Create App which then opened the DPS App Builder.
Created the App in the DPS App Builder.
Activated the app with a Single Use License.
Now I need to update the app. I don't have the option to update the folio in the DPS App Builder. So I found this http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ppcompdoc/Step_by_step_guide_to_dps_se.pdf which says that I can create a new app and delete the other one, but:
I can't delete the active app
I can't activate a new app because the license is in use
How can I update the app using the Single Use License that we purchased?
    Thanks
    Rafael

You can use the serial number only once. If you need to update your app, contact Adobe technical support and ask them to reset the serial number.
By the way, if you have a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, you can use that account ID to update or build an unlimited number of single edition apps for the iPad. A Creative Cloud license is easier to use, more versatile, and more cost effective than purchasing a single license.

  • Devloper app (.ipa) created to test, but I can't transfer Single edition app to updated version

    Hi
I went through the process of creating the developer and distribution app. I wanted to test the distribution app before I upload to the store. You need to use a "Built-in Single Edition App" licence from Adobe to create the developer and distribution app.
Once tested we found a minor mistake. But once I rebuilt the app to create another developer file to test I found I could not use the same SIngle Edition App serial number, or transfer it, or even delete the original file and try again.
It seems a bit harsh that the process allows you to create a test file, but if you use single edition you can't change anything at that point any way.
Is there any way around this?

  • Can you create a single edition app with CC Enterprise?

My company have Creative Cloud Enterprise edition and I would like to create a simple single edition app. It's going to be a one off free app and I have no requirement for all the bells and whistles that Enterprise offers plus with it being free it would cost me because of the $0.30 per download fee. Does anyone know if this can be done or am I going to have to start looking at alternatives?

You could sign up for the full version of Creative Cloud which will enable you to build a Single Edition app before that support is removed from Creative Cloud on May 1st. You'd create a new app in InDesign using the Create App menu item in Folio Builder Panel. After you create the app and submit it you could then cancel your Creative Cloud subscription.
Note that you would need to get support to help you set the version number of your new app high enough to replace your existing app in iTunes. If you plan to go the CC route let me know and I can assist in making sure the version number is updated on your app appropriately.

  • Single Edition Apps

Apologies for a newbie kind of question, but I'm wanting to know about publishing a single use app via our Adobe CC subscription.
The idea is a learning exercise to design + publish an app that I'd want to update fairly regularly - its tied to sports stats and infographics with interactivity, which I'd want to update through the season (at times every 1-2 weeks), but it could be 14 or so times in a year. Is this practical?
I would favour each update submitted to have fairly substantial additions each time as I want to give anyone who downloads it extra, new stuff each time… but do Apple get frustrated or tetchy about constant and/small updates to single edition apps? Do they critique stuff?
    The app would be FREE.
Also, if an update is accepted, do people who have downloaded a previous version get notified, or would I have to do this via Twitter or similar.
    Thanks.
    Craig

Thanks for the replies, Neil and Bob
I though this might be the case - I understand their reasons. Its almost like there needs to be an inbetween license for small publishers maybe, for non-commercial apps. Clearly what I want to do is beyond the single edition license, but the cost of the other license types is simply beyond me.
However, I think I can still tackle it. What I have developing does have plenty of interactive content for users (certainly cpompared to some stuff I have seeen), but I may just have to prepare it all as more of a season's 'retrospective analysis', then submit it to Apple to avoid constant updates.
Above all, its a process of learning DPS - that's the main thing. Its really just starting to make its presence felt here in New Zealand, so its a pretty exciting product… especially for an old print dog liek me who needs some new tricks!
    Cheers guys.

  • Selling Single Edition App

    Hi,
I want to make a single edition app that will be free at start but later I will update the app and turn it to a paid app.
Those that have downloaded the app will get a notification about the new version and will need to pay to get it?
    Thanks!

You may also create a demo app and then update it (submit new version with updated folio inside) with the link/info to the new paid app, so those who already have the demo and updated it will be aware of the new paid app available.

  • Switching from multi-folio to single edition app

I've recently had to cancel my subscription to the DPS Professional Edition in which I published an multi-folio (iPad & iPhone) app to iTunes.
Now I'd like to resubmit the app as a single edition app with my Creative Cloud subscription (which will be iPad only).
I get the following error message when submitting the app with Application Loader:
ERROR ITMS-9000: “This bundle is invalid. The key UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities in the Info.plis may not contain values that would prevent this application from running on devices that were supported by previous versions. Refer to QA1623 for additional information: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#qa/qa#1623/_index.html” at SoftwareAssets/SoftwareAsset (MZItmspSoftwareAssetPackage)
ERROR ITMS-9000: “This bundle does not support one or more of the devices supported by the previous app version. Your app update must continue to support all devices previously supported. You declare supported devices in Xcode with the Targeted Device Family build setting. Refer to QA1623 for additional information: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#qa/qa#1623/_index.html” at SoftwareAssets/SoftwareAsset (MZItmspSoftwareAssetPackage)
error: xcode-select: note no developer tools were found at ‘/Applications/Xcode.app’, requesting install. Choose an option in the dialog to download the command line developer tools.
And a pop up box asking if I want to install Xcode:
The “lipo” command requires the command line developer tools. Would you like to install the tools now? Choose install to continue. Choose get Xcode to install Xcode and the command line developer tools from the app store.
Is there a work-around for this - besides installing Xcode and trying to figure out the targeted device settings?
Or do I have to start over and apply for a brand new app in iTunes Developer, etc.?
    Thanks!

This probably isn't about features in the app. Support for Newsstand can be removed and Apple will approve the modified app. Same goes for removal of other features.
The error description from Apple is pretty clear... you have stopped supporting a device. There are only 2 devices: iPhone and iPad. If your app supports both iPad and iPhone then switching to single-issue will remove support for iPhone (as only DPS Pro and Enterprise includes support for iPhone). This is why Apple won't approve the app.
    /Peter

  • Transfer single edition app to another developer

    Hi,
Can I change the single edition app developer to another developer after the publishing in App Store?
In iTunes connect developer guide is written:
-Make sure the app uses only technology and content that can be transferred.
-No version of the app can use an iCloud entitlement.
-No version of the app can use a Passbook entitlement.
    - The app can’t offer (or have previously offered) In-App Purchase subscriptions: auto-renewable, free, or non-renewing.
In-app purchase in Single Edition is automatically enabled when I create App ID (with DPS Guide), but, as a Single Edition, it can’t have any In-App Purchase subscription.
Do you think this could be a problem in order to change the App Developer once it’s published in App Store?

    Apple responded:
In-App Purchase subscriptions are a types of In-App Purchases. Your app may contain In-App Purchases other than auto-renewable, free, or non-renewing when transferring an app. Please be advised that if your app offered subscription In-App Purchases you will be unable to use the App Transfer process.
this is my app in appstore (don't have "in-App purchase icons)
