Updating sites /old version still in local cache of customers

Hi,
when updating sites for customers they and their customers often don't see the update as the site is loaded from their local cache.
Is there a way to deal with this? It is impossible to change the name of the index-page, it is always index.html.
Thank you for your help,
Kurt

I've faced this before too.
I've tried many different approaches but the most reliable way I've ever found of handling it is to rename the new PDF each time (e.g. adding the revision date into the filename) and update the link in the web page to point to the renamed PDF.
Works every time.

I was told by someone here (and I can't reproduce it in my office) that I should tell the user to go to Adobe Reader | Edit | Preferences | Internet.
Then tell her to uncheck all three boxes (display in browser, allow fast, and allow speculative)
But I don't see how that would fix it
Nor me.

  • I am trying to update an old version of itunes, my computer says it took place, but when I hook up my daughters new ipod it says the new version is needed.  What do I need to do?

I am trying to update an old version of itunes, my computer says it took place, but when I try to sync my daughters new ipod it says a newer version if itunes is required?

In iTunes, look at Help/About iTunes and as the screen rolls up, check for the version number. Ignore the bit that says iTunes 10 in massive bold lettering, wait for the smaller text to appear as the it rolls up. The latest version (on 15th April 2012) is iTunes 10.6.1.7 and the text you should see will simply state iTunes 10.6.1.7. Underneath that will be "gumpf" about copyright etc.
If your iTunes does not say this, then something must have gone wrong with the update you did. How did you do it? The usual way is to simply select (in your iTunes), Help/Check for Updates. In my case, the return message I see states This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version. The alternative message will state something like "there is a later version of iTunes available, do you wish to download it" or similar. Selecting "Yes" would begin the download and if you leave it to run itself, the update should take effect, providing you don't stop it or (I guess) keep iTunes so busy it cannot run the update. It may need to close and re-open before the change takes effect.
At a guess, the reason your daughter's iPod is saying it requires a newer version of itunes is either because you've just bought it, and you have a fairly old version of iTunes - AH!, that may be the problem. >>
    >> If the version of iTunes you had installed was very old, then the update may have updated to something other than the latest version. So even if the update has taken place, if it only updated from, for example, iTunes 8 to iTunes 9, then it may need a further update to get to version 10 or to 10.6.1. So for you, now, check after update for the version your iTunes thinks it is until it states iTunes 10.6.1.7.
Alternatively, if your daughter's iPod has been Synced with another computer (with a later version of iTunes than yours, even by one increment), then that would cause then issue you currently have, because her iPod will now only want to work the the latest version it has previously done business with, not your old version.
Note; the current version of iTunes as I've stated it, may change any day. Apple do not announce when updates will be released. Uisng Help/Check for Updates and seeing the return message This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version is the only sure way of telling that you are up to date.
Additional note; gumpf = slang for "random junk".
Let us know how you get on.

  • Is it possible to update an old version of 10.4.11 to a newer version on my ibook? and to install the app store?on my ibook

Can anyone help me update my old ibook version 10.4.11 to the latest version and possibly be able to install the app store on it?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a G3, no further upgrades are available.
If it's a G4, buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay; Apple still might have copies in stock if you phone them.
Back up your data before upgrading. No iBook can have the Mac App Store installed onto it.

  • Cannot install new adobe reader- says old version still installed

Hi there, looking for a little help please.  An old version of adobe reader, 7.1 shows as installed on this computer so when I try and install a new version it gives me an error.  When I try to uninstall it via the windows add/remove programs, it says that it can't uninstall.  How can I get adobe reader 7.1 out of my system?  If I need to edit the registry to get it out of there, what changes need to be made?
    Thanks.

Thanks,  I was having a similar problem, and this solution took care of it.
    good work

  • My Ipad or shuffle will not update on iTunes. What do I need to do. It says update but old version. nothing new will update. So my Ipad is still 5.0

    Help...Cannot update new software.

    Hello Jackie Andujar,
Is your iTunes Version Updated which is installed on your Computer?
Are you using a Mac or Windows Computer?
Which version of Operating System is Installed on your Computer ?
Which iPad version do you have ?

  • Why after the update is my version still indicating 3.7.2 and only the one computer is even getting the update?

I have 10.9.5 on an iMac 27 and a macbook pro 17 both having ARD Admin 3.7.2 but only the iMac showed the 3.8.2 update available. I downloaded that one before everything and it allowed me to update clients to 3.8.2 but after discovering that my Macbook didn't get the update offer, I looked at my version on the iMac and it still shows 3.7.2 yet when I select targets to upgrade client software it offers the option to upgrade them to 3.8.2 from my version indicating 3.7.2?

Try to restart your computer, then restart your phone and try again. Let me know the results.
    Regards,

  • Firefox claims to want to "update" to old version

Today, I had one of my computers inform me that Version 3.6.17 of Firefox was available, so after updating that computer, I went around to my other computers to update them as well - but on this one, when I selected "Check for Updates", the window that opened said that Firefox 3.6.13(!) was ready to be installed. This was doubly odd, because "About Firefox" on this machine reported that 3.6.15 was already installed, so instead, I downloaded and installed 3.6.17 manually, figuring this would clear things up. Unfortunately, it still reports wanting to install 3.6.13 - and if I click on the restart button, it restarts, but still claims to want to install 3.6.13 afterward - despite that it now claims (in the "About" box) to BE 3.6.17! Apparently, some corrupted info got into the installer queue, but how do I go about cleaning it out?

You may have a user agent that is corrupted and that identifies you as Firefox/3.6.4

  • After being prompted to latest version, I clicked to proceed. Seems to work but old version still there. I keep getting asked to upgrade

Firefox Version: 7.0.1 Mozilla Firefox with AOL toolbar -1.4
Keep getting notified I should update to more secure version (I believe it is 8.x and have done so, and waited for Firefox to restart. However, when it does, it still shows 7.0.1 and I later get the same notification of the need to updates.
    I run Windows XP, SP3

If you have used the Help > About Firefox > Check for Updates method, try downloading the full installer, SAVE it to your hard drive, after the download is complete, close Firefox (''Firefox button > Exit'' or ''File > Exit''), then run the installer, accept the defaults and it will install over your current version, assuming you accepted the defaults in installing your Firefox 7.0.1.

  • Does Safari old versions still supported by 10.6 OS?

May I know? because it is important for us to know this to test other applications.

I ran Safari 4 on 10.6.8 for the longest time. The problem you may run into is the fact that some Webkit functions from the newer Safari may affect the older Safari.  If keeping old copies of Safari running is critical, use partitioning to install various operating systems that are able to run specific versions of the operating system.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote won't update.  App Store says update was applied, but when I open Pages/Number/Keynote, the version of  it shows the old version.

When you updated, the old version remained on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09.  Any icons you have on the Dock still point to that old version.  Try opening the Numbers that is located in your main Applications folder, not the one in the subfolder. If that works, then drag that one to the Dock.
