Updating software on ipod/ no outside power source

so today i updated the software on my ipod classic and it instructed me to plug it into the outside power source in order to complete the update. The problem is that i have lost my outside power souce and instead use a car adapter and the usb cord to recharge the battery. Is there any way to get around this problem? thanx in advance!

Your car adapter & USB cord should do the trick. External power is external power, it means the iPod is not relying on it's internal battery during the update.

  • Is there a way to do a firmware update without being plugged into a power source?

I have a Macbook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and the indicator light on the Magsafe power cord is not lighting up. I know the cord works because I have tried it on a different computer but it is only this macbook that it doesn't work on. I have reset the SMC. I do need to do a firmware update but when I try to do the update it the firmware it will not let me update because the computer doesn't know that its connected to a power source. When I look at the battery life indicator on the right hand corner it says that its calculating but never changes.
I was using the computer running on battery life and it turned off. I was able to turn the computer on. The computer powers on and off but i'm assuming its going to run the battery power. I don't have another battery to try on this computer. Are there any suggestions?

  • Updating software for iPod

I hope this isn't a dumb question... but here goes. I keep getting a message that a new software version (1.1) is available for my iPod. I click on the link, but it sends me to an iTunes screen for updates. So OK, I update my iTunes, thinking that might also take care of the iPod software. I get a message that it updated successfully. I'm not sure that my iTunes really updated. It was supposed to download iTunes version 7, but I just checked my version and it's still version 6. Do I need to do something else to complete the update?
Also, how do I update my iPod software? I don't even know how to tell what version is on my iPod. Do I have to update my iPod software, or is that something that the iTunes update takes care of?
I've tried searching the discussion forums, but can't find a solution for my problem.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!
      Windows 2000

Ok, not a dumb question . To find out what vrsion of iTunes you have, go to "help" then to "about iTunes". It'll tell you what version you have. Here's the Latest version of iTunes if you don't already have it:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
This should take care of the update for the iPod.

  • Ipod not recognizing power sources

Hi all, I'm new to the forums here.
I just purchased my 30gb video ipod near the end of July/beginning of August.
My battery level is low, so I went to plug it into the wall adapter (I have an AC/DC adapter with a USB cable that I've used to charge it) and nothing happened. I tried switching out the cable with another one, nothing. I tried the plug in a different outlet, nothing. I figured it was the adapter.
So then I tried plugging my ipod into my computer to charge using the USB cable annnnd...nothing. The computer doesn't even recognize anything's plugged in, the ipod doesn't recognize it's plugged into a power source..it just sits there. I tried resetting it, just in case, and that didn't do anything, either.
I am freaking out. What good is my ipod if I can't charge it? Does anyone know anything I can try to fix this or does it sound like a problem I'll have to take into Best Buy (where I purchased it)?

I took my ipod out to my car this morning and plugged it into my "RoadTrip" connector and lo and behold, it charged and I was able to play it. I took it into Best Buy, anyway, and had them look at it. The lady did a soft reset and tried both of the cables and they worked. We think that somehow the car kit 'reset' it or something. She said that it could just be a random flook, but if it keeps happening to bring it in again.
I would take your ipod in to have it checked if I were you, konras.

  • Updating software for iPod Touch Model MC086LL

The current software on my iPod Touch is 4.2.1 and I would like to update it to the most recent software or to the 4.3 version at the very least. However, when I click check for software I receive a message indicateing that my software version is uptodate.   I know for a fact that it is not the current version. How can I get my iPod Touch to do a software update?  I have read and followed the instructions in the iPod manual and some instructions I have found on this site, but I still cannot get the software to update. Some of my apps should be updated including the one I use the most to listen to my ebook.
Thank you in advance for all who answer my request for help.

I have no reason to purchase a newer version iPod Touch, I just want to up date my software.  There should be a way to do this and I wish I could find out how.  A 3 year old device is just not considered old, in my option, and should be able to recieve updates.  (F.Y.I., my windows computer is over 7 years old and I can update it's software.  If Apple makes you purchase new devices in order to have newer software, then I don't see me buying any more Apple device which is sad as I just purchased an iPad and "love" my iPod Touch.)

  • Utility software for Ipod-Checking HDD power on time ?

    Hi !
I'd like to buy a Ipod-Classic 160GB from someone and I wondered if there's any software eg. HD Tune which is able to tell me how many hours/minutes the ipod was actually in use. (power on time) I wouldn't want to buy one that was used 24/7 since the potential seller bought it, 1 year ago.
    Thanks a lot !

Reset the iPod - hold Select+Menu for > 6 seconds
Enter diagnostics mode during reset - hold Select+Previous > 6 Seconds
    Press Menu for Manual Test
Scroll down to IO, press Select
Scroll down to HardDrive, press Select
Scroll down to HDSMARTData, press Select
Check PowerOn Hours and other stats for clues as to condition. I've had mine for a year, use it a few hours each day and would say my iPod is in reasonable condition. My stats are:-
    Retracts: 349
    Reallocs: 5
    Pending sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 1252
    Start/Stops: 571
    Temp: Current 25C
    Temp: Min 10C
    Temp: Max 50C
When finished - Menu, Menu, Menu, Scroll down to Reset, press Select.
